Language Teaching Materials – Resources and Teaching Materials
Introduction
• 3 phases English language education reform in Malaysia. The
roadmap (2015-2025) aims to enable learners to develop into
effective and proficient English Language users.
• CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) - to replace
existing local textbooks to imported books.
• Selected international CEFR oriented references, resources and
supplementary materials are used in ESL classroom teaching.
• Selection of instructional materials - ensure resources align to CEFR.
Key Factors in Resources Selection
Several key factors should be considered when choosing resources for
instruction:
• Alignment with curriculum & learning goals
• Relevance and authenticity
• Accuracy and reliability
• Adaptability and flexibility
• Engagement and Interactivity

• Technology can be described as follows (Bax, 2003)
• Restricted
• Open
• Integrated
• Normalized
Factors for Integrating Technology in ELT
• Access to technology
• Institutional Support
• Teachers’ confidence in using technology
• Students’ needs

• What are the challenges faced by English language teachers in
implementing the use of technology in English language teaching?
• How effectively do English language learners respond and/or
interactive with the use of modern technology?
• Are English language teachers suitably-trained to use technology in
ELT practice?
