The revision of USDA-NRCS’s standard for nutrient management coincided with significant assessment of the performance of Phosphorus (P) Indices in the six states that are tied to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The 64,000 square mile watershed is the focus of unprecedented activity around nutrient management as a result of a 2011 Total Maximum Daily Load for P, nitrogen (N), and sediment under the Clean Water Act. In addition, the state of Maryland had required updates to it’s original P Index, resulting in broad scrutiny by various interest groups. Within this setting, USDA-NRCS funded a multi-state project to help advance the testing and harmonization of P-based management in the Chesapeake region.

The RASCALS campaign measured snow albedo and related characteristics on the Greenland ice sheet to validate snow albedo parameterizations and satellite retrievals. Broadband and spectrally resolved surface albedo and reflectance were observed, along with snow physical properties. The Gardner-Sharp snow albedo parameterization was found to perform well using the campaign data. Comparison of reflectance measurements to the CM SAF SAL satellite product showed room for improvement in the retrievals. Future work will evaluate additional satellite datasets and make the campaign observations publicly available.

The 3D conceptual site model revealed that LNAPL from the former retail gasoline station had penetrated deep into the source area and migrated hundreds of feet south through semi-confined permeable layers below the water table, despite groundwater flow being predominantly to the north. High resolution site characterization tools, including optical profiling and membrane interface probing, were used to map LNAPL fluorescence and dissolved phase VOCs. When combined with additional site data in a 3D model, it provided insight into LNAPL and plume migration through confined areas not evident from traditional site investigations.

This provides real-time staff location awareness and a comprehensive assessment. The new method saved approximately $16,000 based on reduced staff hours.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

- 2. Wet Tropics Coast • Sample near end of system • Barron River at Myola • North Johnstone River at Tung Oil • South Johnstone River at upstream Mill • Tully River at Euramo • Herbert River at Ingham sample by Terrain
- 3. • Monitoring for runoff to reef is generally at long term Gauging Stations • Some new gauging stations have been installed for this project • Local site is on the Tully River upstream of the coastal agricultural area
- 4. • Tully River at Tully Gorge Gauging Station in Queensland Parks and Wildlife Colours
- 5. • Gauging Stations used as discharge data is available at these sites • Gauging stations have telemetry • Old – PSTN and Next G polled from Brisbane • New – Next G and Satellite IP equipped sites FTP data whenever there is a change in near real time • Only local site next G IP is on South Johnstone River
- 7. • Equipment used is commercial off the shelf • Statewide support by Hydrographic Support in Brisbane • They provide the equipment and repair/ maintain/update equipment • Also adapt equipment to specific needs • All gauging stations to be updated to Campbell CR1000 with Next G or Satellite IP over the next five years

Data Management • Time series data stored on HYDSTRA – now owned by Kisters AG • Results from Water Sample analysis currently stored on HYDSTRA as well as other departmental data bases • Stores both unvalidated near real time telemetry data and validated data • Stations polled by SODA - a Kisters product • IP sites FTP to HYDSTRA and HYdsupp
