Inside Horror Treatment
Title – Inside Horror
Narrative – This film has a Circular narrative as the story takes us on a journey
that leaves us and the characters confused as to how do they sort this situation
out. The films equilibrium is where the protagonist Dan is at school watching his
favourite movie ‘HP Massacre’, but he then falls asleep leading to the disruption
of the film, which takes place when he wakes up in the fictional world of HP
Massacre and a confused Dan decides that he going to explore and see if this is
just a dream. The recognition stage then takes place when Dan meets
Christopher one of the films characters that he idolises and that to him was
enough to reassure him that this was a real situation he was transported too.
Suddenly when Christopher starts wondering about the disappearance of his
girlfriend Cindy this then Triggers Dan into attempting to repair the situation for
both him and the films characters by getting them all out the movie alive since he
knows that they are in danger of being killed off by the films Masked killer
'Victor Hemz'. So Dan comes up with a plan to end Victor once and for all, which
fails at first but it turns out it was just a decoy as they wanted to get victor by the
staircase and destroy him once and for all like the original film did. Even though
this film has a Circular narrative, you can still say equilibrium is restored when
Dan and the characters escape Victors grasp, but then that leads to Dan being in
the sequel.
Key Scene - The one scene that portrays this film, as being a tribute to Slasher
movies is the slow motion chase sequence, where the killer is chasing both Dan
and Cindy. This scene sticks out as it best separates film from reality because
Cindy's character would have never known what was going on at that stage
because her character has been simulated into just following the films narrative
without question. However the introduction of Dan’s character has changed the
viewpoints of the film characters, so they notice the simple things like how slow
motion seems to play to the advantage of the killer who always seems to catch up
with ease because of that.
Running Time – 7 Minutes
Group Members – Mandisi Sibanda, Christian Ngueyep, Alehkem Copeland,
Caleb Ramsey
Job Roles –
 Producer (Christian Ngueyep)- makes sure everything is in order on and
off the set. Is organised and has good producing skills. He is also in charge
of sound for the film making sure all audio is captured adequately.
 Director – (Mandisi Sibanda) He is in charge of getting all the correct
footage captured and bringing an idea into a reality with his vision.
 Editor (Alehkem Copeland) -Is tasked with putting all the footage
together to create a finished peace and is experienced in the editing field
being able to produce an effective peace with the director by his side.
 Camera Man (Caleb Ramsey)- Needs to understand how to operate a
camera and to capture the appropriate footage making sure not to break
the 180-degree line and looking after the footage so its not corrupted.
Screening/Distribution- At first the film will be advertised on social media to
promote its screening in festivals in and around the UK so that generated some
excitement around it considering that the film is a Slasher, and there’s not many
of them on the short film scene at the moment. But our main TV slot will come at
the 7pm short film slot on Channel 4. The film will be available on Vimeo,
YouTube and Dailymotion as a free and legal way for anyone to watch it. This
film would be given a certificate 12 as there's barely any bloodshed, or even
explicit language and no one is properly killed off, which meets satisfactory
standards for a 7pm slot short film.
Target Audience- The number one target audience for a film like this will be
Males ages 12 – 20, who are fans of Slasher movies especially since the film itself
is inspired by the Final Girls (2015). These people would most likely come from a
social class (E) these people are usually seen as being very handy when it comes
to current technology and social media. So they can access the short from
different platforms and if they like what they see they will share it to their
friends and so on. A secondary audience would be students aged 12-16 who will
probably like the films characters being high school kids, as they can relate to
them in the sense that they are in a school environment. This audience would
come from a social class (E) again this is because people from this class are seen
to have disposable income.
Legal and Ethical- For legal purposes we will need to block out any non-
permitted logos especially considering that the film is based in a school (Heath
Park), which has a reputation to maintain. All actors under 18 must be permitted
to sign a contributors release form, as it is the best way to make sure that no one
can take legal action if they have some kind of guardians permission. The film
will also need to follow the requirements of the 7pm time slot because some kids
might be tuning in so, no inappropriate content unless its been dismissed by the
BBFC.
Resources Required
 Camera - Canon 700D - I would prefer to use this camera as it allows me
to capture those all-important close up shots that are what i intend to
show the emotion from the films characters. Also i feel this camera can
capture some of the more intense scenes in much better quality especially
action sequences.
 Lens - 55 mm - This is appropriate for a film like this because it has a lot
of shots that require a detailed wide shot and this lens allows all that to be
captured in detail.
 Sound - Boom Pole - This is for use in scenes like the corridor encounter
between Dan and Christopher that have characters talking to one another
in settings where unnecessary echoes can be transmitted.
Character List
Dan - He is the main protagonist of the film, he is Christopher and Cindy's best
chance of escape the film without getting killed off by Victor Hemz. This
character knows HP Massacre off by heart so that’s why he is the glue to this film
because he is always one step ahead of everyone.
Christopher - He is he stereotypical love interest of a Slashers final girl. So this
requires him to be brave and decisive in his decision making in order to maintain
the safety of his love.
Cindy - She's the final girl, so she is expected to live through the entire film and is
always at the wrong place at the wrong time, she pretty much suppose to be
playing a Denzel in distress until the end where she's expected to show bravery
against the villain.
Victor Hemz -He is a masked killer who shows no remorse towards his villains.
But like all horror movie killers he has a dark past that has led him down this
vengeful road. His only purpose is to kill and that’s the only in site we have for
this character.
