The liver is the largest glandular organ located in the right side of the abdominal cavity. Cirrhosis is a condition where the liver slowly deteriorates and malfunctions due to chronic injury, causing scar tissue to replace healthy liver tissue. Common causes of cirrhosis include heavy alcohol consumption, hepatitis C infection, and obesity. As the disease progresses, complications such as fluid accumulation and infections can occur. Cirrhosis is diagnosed through medical history, exams, imaging tests and sometimes biopsy. Treatment focuses on managing complications, with medications, procedures or liver transplant in severe cases.
This document discusses liver cirrhosis, including its types, causes, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, complications, nursing diagnoses, and interventions. Liver cirrhosis is a chronic, degenerative disease characterized by replacement of normal liver tissue with fibrosis that disrupts liver structure and function. Common types are alcoholic cirrhosis and postnecrotic cirrhosis resulting from viral hepatitis. Complications include ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, and esophageal varices, which can lead to life-threatening bleeding if ruptured. Nursing care focuses on reducing metabolic demands, providing adequate nutrition and hydration, preventing infection, and protecting patients from injury and further complications.
This document discusses various aspects of corporate governance and women's participation in business in India. It defines corporate governance as the system by which companies are directed and controlled, with the four main pillars being accountability, fairness, transparency, and responsibility. It outlines how economic reforms in India transformed businesses and industries. While women's empowerment and representation in local governance has increased, their participation remains limited due to factors like lower literacy, patriarchal attitudes, lack of awareness of rights, and asymmetric power relations that perpetuate the exploitation of marginalized groups including rural women. The document also discusses the roles women can potentially excel at in corporate boards and businesses if given more opportunities and support.

Patient engagement in clinical trials Martin Kelly
The document discusses improving patient engagement in clinical trials through digital methods. Only 2-5% of cancer patients currently participate in clinical trials. The top 3 solutions identified to engage patients were: 1) a clinical trial finder for patients to inform them of available trials, 2) virtual clinical trials conducted entirely online, and 3) tools to personalize clinical trials to individual patient needs/preferences. The document reviews several companies providing these types of solutions and proposes an experiment partnering with a CRO to test if a digital intervention increases patient enrollment and retention in a clinical trial compared to a control group without a digital intervention.

Abstract
Background Decision aids for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening
have been shown to enable patients to identify a preferred screening
option, but the extent to which such tools facilitate shared decision
making (SDM) from the perspective of the provider is less well
established.
Objective Our goal was to elicit provider feedback regarding the
impact of a CRC screening decision aid on SDM in the primary care
setting.
Methods Cross-sectional survey.
Participants Primary care providers participating in a clinical trial
evaluating the impact of a novel CRC screening decision aid on
SDM and adherence.
Main outcomes Perceptions of the impact of the tool on decision-
making and implementation issues.
Results Twenty-nine of 42 (71%) eligible providers responded,
including 27 internists and two nurse practitioners. The majority
(>60%) felt that use of the tool complimented their usual approach,
increased patient knowledge, helped patients identify a preferred
screening option, improved the quality of decision making, saved
time and increased patients desire to get screened. Respondents
were more neutral is their assessment of whether the tool improved
the overall quality of the patient visit or patient satisfaction. Fewer
than 50% felt that the tool would be easy to implement into their
practices or that it would be widely used by their colleagues.
Conclusion Decision aids for CRC screening can improve the
quality and efficiency of SDM from the provider perspective but
future use is likely to depend on the extent to which barriers to
implementation can be addressed.

This document provides an overview and table of contents for a textbook on predictive biomarkers in oncology. The textbook is divided into five parts:
Part I introduces basic principles and methods for predictive biomarker studies, including definitions, clinical trial designs, laboratory methods, and technologies like immunohistochemistry, PCR, microarrays, and digital pathology.
Part II describes major cell signaling pathways that are altered in cancer, like steroid hormone, MAPK, Notch, ErbB, angiogenesis, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, Wnt/β-catenin, and Hedgehog signaling.
Part III explores how predictive biomarkers stratify patients and guide treatment for specific cancer types. Part IV discusses regulatory processes

This document summarizes the findings from a focus group and survey conducted by the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) regarding venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment, prevention, and management for cancer patients in outpatient settings. The focus group and survey found significant variability in VTE risk assessment and documentation. Few oncology practices have formal protocols for VTE risk assessment or use tools to calculate risk. Additionally, VTE prevention and education for patients is not standardized. The document provides opportunities for improvement, including developing formal VTE assessment and order protocols, incorporating risk assessment into electronic health records, and improving patient education about VTE risk and prevention.
This document discusses a project called EQUIP that aims to develop new methods for analyzing and displaying qualitative data in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR). The project will draw on existing studies involving over 200 cancer patients to develop tools for extracting narratives from illness experiences. An "ethnoarray" approach is proposed to visually array patients' narratives based on domains like treatment decisions and social support. The goals are to engage stakeholders like researchers, providers, and patients to establish standards for using qualitative data in PCOR and assess new methods' feasibility in clinical practice. Challenges include bridging different disciplinary approaches, but the project sees opportunities to innovate at the intersection of qualitative and quantitative health research methods.
When digital medicine becomes the medicine (2/2)Yoon Sup Choi
The study assessed the quality and accuracy of care provided by 8 major commercial telemedicine companies for common acute illnesses. Standardized patients presented 6 conditions and completed 599 virtual visits total. The completeness of histories and physical exams ranged from 51.7-82.4% across companies. Correct diagnoses were provided in 65.4-93.8% of visits. Adherence to clinical guidelines for management decisions was 54.3% overall but varied significantly between conditions and companies, from 34.4-66.1% across companies. Greater variation was seen for viral infections than musculoskeletal conditions. This suggests the quality of telemedicine can differ substantially between providers.

GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS AND GASTRITIS
Osvaldo Bernardo Muchanga
Gastrointestinal Infections
GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS result from the ingestion of pathogens that cause infections at the level of this tract, generally being transmitted by food, water and hands contaminated by microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus, Rotavirus among others that are generally contained in feces, thus configuring a FECAL-ORAL type of transmission.
Among the factors that lead to the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections are the hygienic and sanitary deficiencies that characterize our markets and other places where raw or cooked food is sold, poor environmental sanitation in communities, deficiencies in water treatment (or in the process of its plumbing), risky hygienic-sanitary habits (not washing hands after major and/or minor needs), among others.
These are generally consequences (signs and symptoms) resulting from gastrointestinal infections: diarrhea, vomiting, fever and malaise, among others.
The treatment consists of replacing lost liquids and electrolytes (drinking drinking water and other recommended liquids, including consumption of juicy fruits such as papayas, apples, pears, among others that contain water in their composition).
To prevent this, it is necessary to promote health education, improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of markets and communities in general as a way of promoting, preserving and prolonging PUBLIC HEALTH.
Gastritis and Gastric Health
Gastric Health is one of the most relevant concerns in human health, with gastrointestinal infections being among the main illnesses that affect humans.
Among gastric problems, we have GASTRITIS AND GASTRIC ULCERS as the main public health problems. Gastritis and gastric ulcers normally result from inflammation and corrosion of the walls of the stomach (gastric mucosa) and are generally associated (caused) by the bacterium Helicobacter pylor, which, according to the literature, this bacterium settles on these walls (of the stomach) and starts to release urease that ends up altering the normal pH of the stomach (acid), which leads to inflammation and corrosion of the mucous membranes and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
In addition to bacterial infections, gastritis and gastric ulcers are associated with several factors, with emphasis on prolonged fasting, chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, foods with strong seasonings including chilli, which ends up causing inflammation of the stomach walls and/or corrosion. of the same, resulting in the appearance of wounds and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
Among patients with gastritis and/or ulcers, one of the dilemmas is associated with the foods to consume in order to minimize the sensation of pain and discomfort.

The biomechanics of running involves the study of the mechanical principles underlying running movements. It includes the analysis of the running gait cycle, which consists of the stance phase (foot contact to push-off) and the swing phase (foot lift-off to next contact). Key aspects include kinematics (joint angles and movements, stride length and frequency) and kinetics (forces involved in running, including ground reaction and muscle forces). Understanding these factors helps in improving running performance, optimizing technique, and preventing injuries.
Are you looking for a long-lasting solution to your missing tooth?
Dental implants are the most common type of method for replacing the missing tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants are surgically placed in the jawbone. In layman’s terms, a dental implant is similar to the natural root of the tooth. It offers a stable foundation for the artificial tooth giving it the look, feel, and function similar to the natural tooth.
