Designing for Privacy in the Age of Digital Sharing
We’ve entered the sharing age—the mobile revolution allows us to share our cars, homes, and pet photos with ease. We trust companies to keep our most sensitive information secret, while at the same time posting personal information publicly. Boundaries between our digital and analog identities are dissolving. As designers, we make more and more products that collect user data and it’s time for us to have serious conversations about digital privacy.
I’ll be sharing research on five personas that I’ve developed around attitudes towards privacy. We’ll run through an exercise that helps you discover which personas match your own actions. You’ll gain a better understanding of your own attitude towards putting your data up online and have the tools to assess the attitudes of the people you’re designing for. We’ll take a look at a few key design patterns that companies have used to target different kinds of users and what they do that works well.
At the same time, just because people want to share their information with us doesn’t mean we should run wild. As designers, we have the responsibility to take care of our users and treat them with respect and integrity, and that includes their data. We’ll finish the presentation with a discussion of what kind of code of conduct we need to adopt as designers, and how to factor that into our day-to-day work.

While data provides useful insights, making decisions and taking risks is still important, as the full picture may not be clear from data alone. Experts are able to integrate different data points and make good conclusions even with incomplete information.

The researchers studied whether participatory extension education methods can be sustainable. They analyzed literature, interviews, and community member essays. Participatory methods where community members are equal partners in all research phases led to greater sense of ownership and program success. Successful programs adopted recommendations, improved lives, and continued benefiting communities. This document provides an overview of protein synthesis. It describes how DNA is transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA) in the nucleus, then transported to the cytoplasm where it is translated by ribosomes into a polypeptide chain. Transcription involves RNA polymerase copying the DNA template into mRNA. Translation involves mRNA binding to ribosomes, where transfer RNA (tRNA) delivers amino acids to the ribosome according to the mRNA codon sequence to synthesize a protein.

We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
