Innovation execution workpackages
The program consists of a continuum of practical workpackages designed
to take a structured innovation practitioner team through the processes
involved in transforming innovation input into program actions and tangible
innovation results.
Innovation input is supplied by up stream marketing, business development, customer insights,
Internal & external ideation platforms, etc…….. It is not a part of this management program.
The workpackages take this input through interactive workshops run in continuity to
accompany and transform this into simple actions that allow programs to be matched
against strategy and rapidly test hypotheses that contribute to taking the most informed
decisions in resource allocation.
Workpackage content and depth are calibrated according to the needs, practitioner maturity
and corporate protection that is requested.
The process is a complete project management process with continual
accompaniment through the complete program.

If you don’t know where you are going you won’t get there…… identifying what to target
WORKPACKAGE ②
This workpackage is in the form of an interactive workshop, building
on general examples and then focusing onto specific corporate
innovation input.
 prioritizing innovation input
 contextual analysis and positioning of
projects in a portfolio matrix
 calibrating the program ambitions
 building innovation program structures into
top down versus bottom up
 identifying the short, medium & long term programs
Focus is on the prioritization and qualification of innovation input
The final result is a matrix/portfolio of innovation needs/projects/strategic options
Care is taken to converge results with corporate strategy, culture and expectations
(corporate value, C-suite, management & innovation practitioners)

The innovation toolbox……….. The tools of the trade and how they are used effectively
WORKPACKAGE ③
Innovation requires a deep understanding of the
processes, ecosystems and tools that contribute
to making it a success
Each point in the innovation value chain has
its tool, just as each tool has an application.
A good tool is only as great as the craftsman
that is using it.
This workpackage/training takes each tool and
positions it in the innovation value chain, addressing the “job to be done”.
The workshop/training is through case illustrated presentations :
 each tool is analysed
 how to use these tools within an innovation/industrial context
© c. lockhart 2015
Articulating innovation challenges …………. Techniques in crafting open innovation challenges in context
WORKPACKAGE ④
This workpackage/training specifically teaches how to articulate needs for
internal/external challenge calls.
The workshop/training is a hands on experience that :
 introduces to analysing a need based on why, how and what questions
 methods for scoring needs and identifying which tool is most adapted to finding
solutions
 exercises in needs/challenge writing using generic and specific examples
This workpackage can be complimented by expert/technology/partner search engines
that access and map over 10 million profiles in over 450 technology domains.

Innovation scenarios…….. Creating best case scenarios that work and building innovation portfolios
WORKPACKAGE ⑤
All innovation programs, whether incremental or ambitious blue sky projects require to
be planned with clear objectives, decision making points and criteria for making these
decisions by doing the right experiments at the right time.
This original methodology, using story telling techniques, builds on the initial project context
(workpackage ②) and connects this to the theoretical final result. The project arc is then defined step
by step with a series of experiments or tests to move from one scene to the other. The process is linked
back into the innovation toolbox (workpackage ③) to plug in the right tool that fills
the job to be done.
The final results are a series of project pathways with “what if” points that guide
towards the final desired or possible result.
The workpackage is a hands on experience :
 brief introduction to story/scenario writing
 defines the final objective of a need (write the final scene)
 analyses, dissects and maps the project storyboard to reach that finality
 draw up specific innovation scenarios that are used to create portfolio management
© c. lockhart 2015
Workpackage accompaniment…. Disrupting the RFP
The objective is to provide a continuum of innovation presence through complete
programs
- Challenge management with external communities
- Search, identification and qualification of external solution providers
- Run video conferences to exchange results, opinions, expertise etc.
- Due diligence on partners under confidential conditions
- Project management and deliverables with external partners
- Innovation practitioner coaching
- Innovation club management
- Steering committee organisation
- Innovation communication materials and strategies (internal & external)
The workpackage knowledge will be assimilated by the innovation practitioners and they
will be able to run these programs autonomously and train others (train the trainer).
