Road traffic crashes in Indonesia took 31,234 lives in 2010. To reduce road fatalities by 50% by 2020, Indonesia launched the Decade of Action for Road Safety in 2011. Indonesia's efforts since 2004 include national road safety weeks, developing a road safety action plan and curriculum, and conducting road safety trainings. Key safety indicators include increasing helmet wearing and seat belt compliance as well as improving road infrastructure and vehicle standards. The national road safety plan takes a five pillar approach focusing on safer road management, infrastructure, vehicles, users, and post-crash response.
