A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. 2. The kooks
The Kooks are an English indie rock band formed in 2004 in Brighton
3. Mise-en-scene
• The costumes/clothes of the band are very casual for example a simple tee and
jeans this suggests that the band is very laid back, which is typical of this
particular genre as the genre is known for not lavishing in materialistic items but
rather the focal point being the music.
• The locations chose vary from being on a tour bus which seems to be the focal
point which represents them travelling to different locations such as being
within a quite run down city, then on the coast/beach. This possibly is
representing the life of young teenagers/adults as they explore the world – on a
budget and are simply looking for experience.
• The majority of the video is quite dark and has low contrasted colours – there’s
very few bright saturated colours.
4. Camera shots
• The camera shots for almost all of the video tend to be hand-held camera shots
of the band, again representing a relaxed atmosphere of the band. As well as
this, the shots are generally of the band and them singing or having a good time,
showing their friendship.
• The use of zoom both in and out is used quite a lot, which links in with the
hand-held camera shots as “shaky zooms” are often seen a lot in home videos –
this very much has a feel that they wanted it to look like a home video not
professionally made.
• There’s a variety of shots from low angle of the band, mid shots, tracking shots
and long shots. This allows the video to keep interested, especially since there’s
minimal editing.
5. Editing
• The editing in this video is fairly minimal – creating a less professional look for
the video
• There’s use of fairly fast pace cuts between different shots, this keeps the
audience interested.
• The video shows the band the majority of the time, particularly of the main
singer lip syncing the lyrics – enhancing the focal point upon the band/artist.
This is typical of this genre as the video and music both focus on the singer as
this is who the fans recognise.
• The video is also a 16x4 ratio and not in full HD ratio – this may be due to the
time period (2008) however, I feel that this look creates the unprofessional and
home video feel that they were going for.
