which offers contemporary fashion apparel
designs and lifestyle products created with
Industrial Hemp.
The following are the features of the meeting led
with Swiftnlift Business Magazine. We are happy

introduced a gateway to fulfilling the need for a
sustainable fashion brand in India.
“We want to inspire people to transform from
mindless consumption into conscious decisions.
What were the constraints you faced at
the time of inception?
From the beginning, the message was clear in
our mind that we want to create an ecosystem
of sustainable fashion by encouraging the use of
apparels made up of Hemp! But Indian market is
very price-sensitive when it comes to the clothing
industry.
On the other hand, the government policies and
laws for Hemp build it tougher for us. But in the

and devoted team of
individuals that come from
all walks of life. 80% of our
team has been with us since
inception, and we desire to
always create a healthy and
safe working environment where
everyone’s needs are generously
met. Our clothes are locally
designed and produced in India
and every piece is made with a
whole lot of love, thought and
care. We hope you love wearing
these clothes as much as we
loved making them. And we
believe that these are the basic
skill which plays a vital role in
enhancing and promoting the fashion industry.
With an environment-first approach, we take a
genuine interest in understanding materials and
methods of creating products and services that can
co-exist with our ever-evolving world, with doing
the least damage to the earth. We thereby measure
the impact of production, use and disposal of each
product that is curated by us. We at the Cannabie
community believe in sustainability
and ecosystem with all of our
beings.
Share about your
journey from the
beginning.
Since I was a child, I had known
cannabis as ‘Ganja’. This taboo in
society is so much ingrained so
that it’s difficult for a common person
to see the brighter side of it. But after
researching about it I had found out that
its roots belong to Indian mythology
as well. In fact, according to shiva
Puran cannabis is amongst the top
five sacred plants in the world.
Hence at that point, the choice to
see cannabis in a different light was
left on me.
And, years later I can make people
look at cannabis by considering
the inexpedient uses through
‘Cannabie India’. I’ve been paying
attention to how my lifestyle
impacts my carbon footprint,
and I know many people like
me who are becoming more and
more aware of the consequences
of their lifestyle choices for the
environment. Hence, I am taking
this step which will take care of the
future which we borrowed from
our children.
How do you manage the
promotion of your projects
through social media
outreach and email campaigns?
The first step to promoting on social media is
choosing the right social media platform. It takes
some research to find where your audience likes to
hang out, as well as some willingness to experiment
and try different platforms. We have been very
much aggressive with the content on the major
social media platform to gain a unique brand voice
to build our audience niche. But at the same time,
while promoting Cannabie on social media we
had to be very sensitive regarding the message we
deliver as the laws and policies are not favourable
enough in India right now.
What makes new
launching successful
and how do you
measure that
success?
In a world full of
people who go with
the flow, there are
a few who dare to
carve out a new
path. A few who
set out to be the
best that they can
be. And it is the
confidence they
have in themselves
that allows them to
make their dream a
reality. At Cannabie,
we pride ourselves
in carving a niche
in the sustainable
fashion industry
which makes people
aware of whom
they are along with
what they wear.
After facing so many
challenges throughout
the journey, we were so
happy after the success
of the launch. It felt
amazing when people
accepted the concept of hemp fashion, the feedback
is amazing. This is how we measure our success.
What was your
most successful
p r o j e c t i n g
experience?
We’ve worked
on a variety of
projects in the
hemp community,
and we certainly learned
something from each one. In
our opinion, there’s nothing
like the best or worst project.
Sometimes you succeed to reach
your goals, and other times you
fail. At the end of the day, the
outcome is never entirely
in your hands. Market
trends, moves of your
competitors, work of other
team members–it all has
an impact on each project.
Instead of considering
projects successes or
failures, we simply
consider each one as a new
learning experience. we try
our best at work, but we do
not dwell much on either
successes or failures.
What steps do you
take to handle
last-minute or
unexpectedsetbacks
before and during
any new launching?
Imakesurethateverything
is ready beforehand and
tested properly. This is
extremely important
when it comes to
launching any event or
campaign. Because it is all
about your brand image, I make sure that every
process is swift and smooth from my customer’s
perspective. Along with this, we try to be very
relevant and close to what is trending on social
media to make sure our brand identity stands apart
from our competitors.
Can you describe emerging trends
you've noticed in the fashion industry?
I feel that consumer trends affect all industries,
but perhaps none more so than fashion. Public
sentiment drives purchasing decisions, and fashion
brands need to know what consumers
want before releasing their next range. Hence it is
all about know where the consumer behaviour is
going; only then a fashion brand will keep up with
the pace of emerging fashion trends.
What are your upcoming fashion
trends?
Because there is an obvious rise in hemp products
throughout the world, and because fashion also
moves in trends, we can pretty confidently say that
there will be less cotton clothing and apparel in
production over the decade of 2021. Say goodbye to
cotton shirts and pants, and hello to slightly stiffer
and possibly more comfortable hemp apparels.
This Summer we want everyone to get high on
style! As our latest summer collection is about to
launch! Previously we successfully delivered our
handcrafted winter collection which was made up
of wool and hemp. We have also Hemp facemasks,
Hemp Kurta’s and soon we are launching a Hemp

The thought behind
Why not start this text with the good old classic “it
all started back in…” well, back in 2003 in our case.
Magnus had made his way to Sri Lanka while studying at
university, and that’s where he first discovered the magic
of customized dress shirts.
An idea was born
Why not offer this concept to the large masses? Made
to Measure was nothing new back then but nobody had
revolutionized the industry in ages. His friend Nalin, who
he met when in Sri Lanka, made sure our first production
was set up and to this day still holds the title of Managing
Director. What happened next? Well, Magnus went back

idea to the test. You guessed right, it was a good one.
Our journey
The Tailor Store was founded in Sweden in 2003 by two
young entrepreneurs with an idea to sell custom tailored
dress shirts online. With their knowledge of modern IT
technology and design, they started this website, sending
measurements and orders to a local tailor in Sri Lanka.

today owns and operates its manufacturing with a focus

Second, brands that have little local knowledge
and are looking to enter the market quickly can
do so with a franchise model, developing brick-
and-mortar retail spaces. Finally, players that have

Share about your journey from the beginning. Since I was a child, I had known cannabis as ‘Ganja’. This taboo in society is so much ingrained so that it’s difficult for a common person to see the brighter side of it. But after researching about it I had found out that its roots belong to Indian mythology as well. In fact, according to shiva Puran cannabis is amongst the top five sacred plants in the world. Hence at that point, the choice to see cannabis in a different light was left on me. And, years later I can make people look at cannabis by considering the inexpedient uses through ‘Cannabie India’. I’ve been paying attention to how my lifestyle impacts my carbon footprint, and I know many people like me who are becoming more and more aware of the consequences of their lifestyle choices for the environment. Hence, I am taking this step which will take care of the future which we borrowed from our children. How do you manage the promotion of your projects through social media
  • 16. outreach and email campaigns? The first step to promoting on social media is choosing the right social media platform. It takes some research to find where your audience likes to hang out, as well as some willingness to experiment and try different platforms. We have been very much aggressive with the content on the major social media platform to gain a unique brand voice to build our audience niche. But at the same time, while promoting Cannabie on social media we had to be very sensitive regarding the message we deliver as the laws and policies are not favourable enough in India right now. What makes new launching successful and how do you measure that success? In a world full of people who go with the flow, there are a few who dare to carve out a new path. A few who set out to be the best that they can be. And it is the confidence they have in themselves that allows them to make their dream a reality. At Cannabie, we pride ourselves in carving a niche in the sustainable fashion industry which makes people aware of whom they are along with what they wear. After facing so many challenges throughout the journey, we were so happy after the success of the launch. It felt amazing when people accepted the concept of hemp fashion, the feedback is amazing. This is how we measure our success. What was your most successful p r o j e c t i n g experience? We’ve worked on a variety of projects in the hemp community, and we certainly learned something from each one. In our opinion, there’s nothing like the best or worst project. Sometimes you succeed to reach your goals, and other times you fail. At the end of the day, the outcome is never entirely in your hands. Market trends, moves of your competitors, work of other team members–it all has an impact on each project. Instead of considering projects successes or failures, we simply consider each one as a new learning experience. we try our best at work, but we do not dwell much on either successes or failures. What steps do you take to handle last-minute or unexpectedsetbacks before and during any new launching? Imakesurethateverything is ready beforehand and tested properly. This is extremely important when it comes to launching any event or campaign. Because it is all
  • 17. about your brand image, I make sure that every process is swift and smooth from my customer’s perspective. Along with this, we try to be very relevant and close to what is trending on social media to make sure our brand identity stands apart from our competitors. Can you describe emerging trends you've noticed in the fashion industry? I feel that consumer trends affect all industries, but perhaps none more so than fashion. Public sentiment drives purchasing decisions, and fashion brands need to know what consumers want before releasing their next range. Hence it is all about know where the consumer behaviour is going; only then a fashion brand will keep up with the pace of emerging fashion trends. What are your upcoming fashion trends? Because there is an obvious rise in hemp products throughout the world, and because fashion also moves in trends, we can pretty confidently say that there will be less cotton clothing and apparel in production over the decade of 2021. Say goodbye to cotton shirts and pants, and hello to slightly stiffer and possibly more comfortable hemp apparels. This Summer we want everyone to get high on style! Magnus had made his way to Sri Lanka while studying at university, and that’s where he first discovered the magic of customized dress shirts. The majority are likely to choose one of three routes. First, players can partner with existing e-commerce platforms. This is most suitable for players with low brand awareness and relatively little capital to invest; it also offers a good way to test demand and customer preferences. Second, brands that have little local knowledge and are looking to enter the market quickly can do so with a franchise model, developing brick- and-mortar retail spaces. Finally, players that have significant local knowledge and capital resources can create fully owned and operated stores. Certainty, uncertainty and relaxation Indian authorities are certainly keen to promote investment. Relaxed regulations on foreign direct investment (for example, allowing 100 per cent foreign-owned single-brand retail operations) will probably lead to more overseas-originated activity through the value chain.
