Designing your own custom nib holder is so exciting! Because the material we use has set lengths, our

What is a carrot pen? A carrot is a shorter pen with a fatter grip. The thick grip tends to force you to
hold the pen a bit differently than a regular thin pen or pencil which helps you remember to keep your
hand relaxed.
Will my new pen come with a nib? Yes! All of our pens will ship with a Brause 361 Blue Pumpkin nib
already inserted. We ve found this to be a user friendly and versatile nib.
What does handmade mean? Handmade means that every pen is made by hand, one at a time, with a
lot of time and attention spent on getting the curves and angles just right. It s been buffed, polished
and carefully inspected each step of the way. Every one of our handmade pens are a little different,
giving you a one of a kind writing instrument. We ve learned our designs through trial and error. They
are not made by a machine or with a pattern .Like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. Just like
writing calligraphy, pen making requires a muscle memory and craftsmanship.
How long will it take to make my custom pen? Custom pens typically take anywhere from 1 4 weeks
to create. The time required depends on many factors, the materials requested and our current backlog
of work. If you have questions about timing, please don t hesitate to contact

Where Cultures Collide
Does other people s cultures affect how you view the world? Some people stray way from their culture
and people view them differently. Culture really affects how people live and how other people view

important.
In Pico Iyer s short story, Where Cultures Collide He shows how others stick to their culture. They see

Arguments Against Veganism
Ever since the beginning of time, man has hunted and consumed animals for survival. Because of this,
it is been taught for millennials that meat is an essential to our bodies for survival and health. While
we are capable of eating meat, the question is, should we? Firstly, humans do not need to eat meat, or
any other animal products for that matter, for survival. Modern day humans are not living in the same
conditions as early humans were, making it unnecessary for us to consume animal products. We no
longer need to rely on animals for consumption, and in fact, it is actually best to leave them absent
from your diet. Numerous amounts of studies have been conducted that support the claim that
consuming animal products is detrimental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most common arguments is that our ancestors ate it, so so should we. Humans have had
omnivorous diets since the beginning of mankind, and this has been an argument that is oftenly used
against veganism. Early humans were scavengers and ate whatever they could find for the purpose of
survival and it is believed that humans ate a majority of meat, however scientific studies have shown
otherwise. In a study conducted, plant derived fiber was the majority of what was found in early
human feces (nutritionfacts.org). Vegaprocity (vegaprocity.com) shows that both carnivores and
omnivores require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, while all herbivores, frugivores, and humans do
require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, however in America, usually less than half the recommended fiber
intake a day is consumed (nutritionfacts.org). While there is no denial that early humans did not hunt
and eat animals, this suggests that the majority of what was ate ate was not meat, but in fact plants and
herbs. When compared to carnivores, humans show more similarity to herbivores and frugivores. One
of the common arguments used in opposition to veganism is that humans are supposed to eat meat
because the mechanism of our body suggest so. This, however, is false. When compared to carnivores
and herbivores, humans share far more similarities with herbivores. To begin with, humans have short
and soft

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pepsi
Pepsi Cola On a, hot, humid, bright Sunday afternoon a high school couple are walking on the beach.
Sweaty and unhappy about to melt, one is almost about to pass out. However it seems as if they need
some help. They seem so sad so I whisper in his ear buy her Pepsi Cola, buy her Pepsi Cola, come on
buy her Pepsi Cola I promise you will make her happy Said Pepsi Cola. The boy, confused about the
little voice in his head, he decides to take her to buy a drink. What could I get you guys to drink? Said
the waiter. The girl confused turned to him and said you choose so the guy told the waiter, Get me a
bucket of the one and only drink that can make people wonderful, the one and only drink that can
refresh people, the drink that will make her love me more two minutes later the waiter comes with a
big smile on his face and a big bucket of Pepsi Cola with ice and says here you go, the only and best

A Case Study- of Green Mountain Inc. Essay
I. Problems
A. Decreasing Sales
Over the past several years, Green Mountain s sales growth has decreased. In 1998, net revenues
totaled at 55.8 million dollars. There was an increase in sales over the following years. In 2002,
revenue increased by a mere 4.6%.There are several flaws and problems in the company that may
decrease revenue sales.
B. Competition
There are six major competitors: Gevalia, Illy Caf #233;, Millstone, Peet s Coffee and Tea, Seattle s
Best and Starbucks. Starbucks seems to have a strong share in the available market. Starbucks is
highly aggressive in the retail market and will have an enormous impact on future sales and profit of
Green Mountain Coffee. Starbucks is already the leading retailer, ... Show more content on

These substitutes are decreasing our potential market share.
There is also a trend towards whole bean specialty coffee. During the 1990 s, the ground coffee
industry was stagnant; slowly declining sales. On the other hand, the whole bean market has grown by
8% annually since 1990. A survey suggests that 36% of coffee drinkers purchased whole bean coffee
because they believed that roasting at home would give a fresher, better taste.
Another factor decreasing our market share is the international market. Although we are increasing in
every market domestically, our international market has greatly decreased by 26.6% during 2001 to
2002. Our decrease is equal to a full year percentage of sales of 2001 2002 in Southern New England.
(MA, CT, RI).
Green Mountain also faces several problems because it is simply a wholesaler. Starbucks coffee is a
familiar name to customers with a reputation, which precedes its name. Green Mountain simply does
not because of our limitations of being a wholesaler. Green Mountain made a decision to close all their
locations because of flat sales and a lease problem. The retail locations are important because they are
a vehicle for consumers to sample Green Mountain coffee. Starbucks retail locations help customers
familiarize with its products.
III. Recommendations
The only way sure way to increase our sales is to increase our client base. We currently provide coffee

The Importance Of The Mapping Project For A Better Insight...
I received a call from an elderly shut in lady explaining that she had no access to transportation and
that there was some problem with her SNAP benefits that month. She was in poor health and had
specific dietary needs. Her friend, that normally would help, was not able to take her to a local pantry.
She wanted to know if we would be able to bring just a little food to tie her over until someone could
take her somewhere for food. Imagine the feeling of insecurity that this woman must have been
experiencing. This is just one of many calls the food bank receives. It is just such a call that made the
mapping project GMFB conducted so necessary.

http://map.feedingamerica.org/county/2014/overall . USDA defines food insecurity as a household
level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food. While it may be
the assumption that larger areas of food insecurity are in the more densely populated areas, you can
see that in areas of Lumpkin County this not the case. In Union County it appears that food insecurity
is not nearly as prevalent. A deeper look will show that considering more factors is necessary when
determining need. Some of the counties GMFB services have large rural areas where transportation
can be a barrier as well as limited access to food sources near them. Figure 1 below also indicates the
locations of the agencies GMFB supports and gives us a clear picture of how well we are meeting the
areas of need as well as any gaps.
Dawson County appears at first glance as a county with a large area of moderately high level of food
insecurity in the northwestern part of the county and a smaller area with a low level of food insecurity
in the southeastern part of the county. Notwithstanding, this is a very rural county where schools and
social services are all located in a central location. Limited transportation is a barrier for this county.
Limited access to transportation can in include no or limited access to public transportation and/or no
access to reliable transportation. Dawson County has limited public transportation with only 4

A Critique of the Juliette Beck Speech Essay
A Critique of the Juliette Beck Speech Juliette Beck s speech, Reclaiming Just and Sustainable
Communities in the Age of Corporate Globalization neither adequately described the problems of
globalization as it is currently structured, nor did it provide any answers to the problems with it, either
the real problems that actually exist (labor and environmental exploitation) or the problems that Beck
purported (large corporations). Primarily, Beck s speech was flawed in that it was incoherent and
empirical incorrect. For instance 1) it purported the idea that globalization was not inevitable , 2) it
called upon the myth of small is beautiful , confusing the real problem with globalization (Capitalist
structure) with a false problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Localism, by its nature, cannot address problems that exist beyond local levels. Globalization, it
should be obvious, is one of these. Too bad for us on the left certain supposedly left political analysts
of global activity cannot pick up this basic truth.
Maybe part of the reason one analyst in particular is unable to realize the futility of localism is that she
has succumbed to the false romantic ideology that small is beautiful . Much in the same way as
libertarians and conservative, Beck beat on the drum of Localism, relating to the audience the horrors
of such companies as Wal Mart, Nike, and Starbucks. She advised us not to shop at these as they (in
the case of Wal Mart) drive out mom and pop stores in local communities. As an alternative, we
should shop at locally own stores, and buy fair trade coffee. One should not try to persuade others into
action on the basis of one s own guilt, for it is futile if one seeks structurally change. But this is what
Beck does, by personalizing the trauma (your local store vs. big nasty corporate stores), and it is not
effective. Instead of focusing on the problems of one order of Capitalism (localism) vs. a different
order of Capitalism (big business), one should realizes that it is Capitalism itself that is the impetus of
the problem, and that the Capitalist exploitation of the earth, labor, and

Role Of The Online World On Developing Knowledge And Skills
Introduction
Most individuals are finding the online world flexible and convenient, and accurately matching their
objectives and busy kind of lives. Online learning capabilities have proliferated and have ensured vital
knowledge and skills for the learners. Students can easily locate various learning programs online, and
these are always accessible and convenient for any interested party in the online fraternity. However,
there are few challenges that are associated with the online world, but the educators have provided
succinct methods that can be used by learners to develop knowledge and skills that are associated with
the learning platform.
Role of the online world in developing knowledge and skills
The online world has ensured various learning capabilities that make use of communication through
writing. The aspects of communication provided have led to varied knowledge and skills that are
essential for learning. The online world has instilled the discipline of patience and the skills of critical
thinking as learners communicate through discussion boards and other social media platforms. The
online world has increased knowledge capabilities on different minds as it ensures various aspects of
asking questions from a varied line of resources. Human minds have been a great source of
information as members share their experiences and learning modalities with each other (Hansen,

Ap Human Geography Midterm
What a relief!!! Yesterday was our midterm exam and I am feeling great about it. I have not felt this
way since last semester when I took a lower level genetics course after I already took the more
advanced genetics course a semester prior. I am pretty sure I got an A on it (hopefully). I wish I could
say the same about another midterm I had earlier this week. I just hope I passed that one. I could really
use the good news. I was really surprised the test had nothing on the Leopold reading, which was my
biggest concern because we never really discussed it in discussion section, so I didn t know if I had
the concepts right in my head. I hope we get a chance to discuss it before the final exam.
Anyways, on Tuesday this week (3/8), I noticed something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It also allowed me to keep track of changes that occur daily. Lastly (and what made me care so much
about this tree was the class I took at my connunity college. It was a biology course where we
explored nature and learned different types of trees. While in this course, my teacher taught us one
very crucial concept that I never took much thought on. It was trouble involved in transferring/moving
resource to different areas and the impact it has on the local environment that loses these resources.
The example she gave was the movement of phosphorus to farmlands that causes run off. Thereby, it
is causing damn to streams and the organisms that live in them. I believe the combination of learning
about different trees and the concept not to remove anything from its local environment gave me this
feeling that this tree should not be removed. To me, this stump provided much to the local
environment, more so than the possible impact it could have had in research. Even though that might
not be the case, in my opinion it was.
I sure that there are a lot more context factors that may have led to me caring about this stumps but
they are not in clear view for me. Nevertheless, if stump removal became more of a popular thing to
do on campus, I feel my private trouble would soon turn into a public issue, especially for those in
conservation groups on campus. Oh well. I could only hope that other people notice this and that
stump removal doesn t become a big thing. In the meantime, I just have to deal with the loss stump

Content Analysis Of The Media
There are numerous sources in which an individual can obtain information about current events
happening around the world; some produce content strictly on the pretense of political affiliation,
while others attempt to establish a more neutral footing, and others are simply more credible than
others. Only four examinations will be necessary to prove this, however: The New York Times, the
New York Post tabloid, the Richmond Times Dispatch, a local newspaper centered in Virginia, and
finally the Telegraph, a conservative leaning news source based in Britain. Each of these sources
provide an overwhelming amount of diversity on the issues they cover and the manner in which they

The New York Times was perhaps the most diverse of the four examples provided here. Their stories
covered issues happening all around the globe; such as the earth quake which just hit Mexico,
hurricane Maria, the United Nations Council meeting, North Korea, and most notably Donald Trump.
The New York Post however, was more geared towards the casual reader covering topics such as
celebrity gossip in the U.S. and occasionally a political issue here and there. The Telegraph focused
mainly on issues in England, especially the problems Parliament is facing with the Brexit decision and
internal conflicts between members Theresa May and Boris Johnson. The Richmond Times Dispatch
was circulating many articles concerning the removal of Confederate monuments as it is a pressing
issue for many people residing in the Southern states of the U.S. Other articles were very focused on
issues Virginian s were facing. Specific articles that had been written by the reporters of each website
varied, especially in contrast with work done by the New York Post. The New York Times in
discussing Trump on his statements made at the UN council meeting were not followed with words of
praise or condemnation, but rather felt factual and focused on informing rather than convincing.
However, in a article written by the New York Post concerning a Trump Victory Dinner to be hosted in
New York, albeit short, had subtle discontent with the actions of the president ensuring to note that he

The Shallows Movie Analysis
Do You Fear The Shallows? This movie is a favorite thriller that is a nominee in the People s Choice
Award of 2016 which stars the beautiful, Blake Lively. This movie is called The Shallows, and was
released in the middle of Summer when everyone is planning their beach vacations in June. This was
not a typical survival shark attack type of thriller movie like the popular Jaws movies. Anthony
Jaswinski is the original writer of this story line, and Jaume Collet Serra is the director; these two
together have created a great movie. Blake Lively plays the character of Nancy who is a medical

After a while the boys leave, but she decides to stay for awhile longer to catch some more waves
before it gets too dark; which was a mistake. Shortly after the boys get to the beach Nancy is attacked
by a huge great white shark. Nancy is on this very isolated beach now injured by a shark bite to her
leg in the middle of the ocean on a big rock that will be going under water at high tide. She is a
medical student drop out, so she knows how to use resources to stitch herself back together in a very
painful way. You can see the pain in Nancy s eyes as she uses her necklace as stitches to stop her leg
from bleeding. Now, what is she going to do to make it back to safety?
In all of the shark scenes, you see an unrealistic great white shark that is huge. While the shark is
scary, but it s bad sizing animations make it look fake in a way. Many people are already afraid of
sharks at any size, so a large yet realistic shark would have made this movie way better. Great white
sharks are the scariest sharks which is why the directors choose this species of shark. Great white
sharks are the stars in many thriller movies involving the ocean. The song choices of the shark scenes

Mansa Mali And Its Impact On The West African Empire Of Mali
Mansa Musa, also known as Kanka Musa, ruled the West African empire of Mali. He gained political
and cultural power. Under his reign, Mali expanded its territories and strengthened its control of West
Africa s salt and gold trades. Mansa Musa expanded trade and territory, had religious tolerance, and
made a pilgrimage to Mecca. Mali already controlled the trans Saharan trade routes between the salt
deposits of Taghaza in the north and the gold bearing lands of Wangara in the south. During Mansa
Musa s reign, Mali strengthened its control of the trade routes by gaining important cities such as Gao
and Timbuktu, on and near the Niger River and Walata. His forces expanded westward to the Atlantic
coast of Takrur and eastward beyond the Middle Niger. Trade and ideas flowed freely between Mali,
North Africa, Spain, Egypt and Arabia. Muslim traders plied the desert with their caravans carrying
brass work from Spain, brocades from Egypt, precious stones from India and returned with gold, salt,
cola nuts and ivory. Mansa Mūsā, whose empire was one of the largest in the world at that time, is
reported to have observed that it would take a year to travel from one end of his empire to the other.
As he gained power, he adopted many titles such as Emir of Melle , Lord of the Mines of Wangara and
Conqueror of Ghanata . He established diplomatic ties with North Africa that facilitated
unprecedented Trans Sahara trade which further enriched his kingdom and ushered in prosperity

Decrease In Chesapeake Bay
In this research paper I will talk about how a large decrease in the algae population in the Chesapeake
Bay will cause problems for not just fish and other species but the people who fish and make a living
off of it. A large decrease in algae population will have a domino effect on the food chain. Having a
major decrease in algae will hurt how others species live and protect themselves. The food chain of the
Chesapeake Bay is very simple. It has fish, big fish depend on small fish. The small fish feed off of
oysters or sometimes zooplankton. Oysters then feed off of many small zooplankton. Once, it gets
down to what the zooplankton feed off of it is mostly algae or grass. Now, since there is a major
decrease in the algae population, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the algae growing so close to the edge or shoreline they are constantly taking in the run off or
whatever may be on the shoreline. This makes it very bad for not just the algae but also the the water
and species living down under. A lot of this pollution may come from the big city plants. Their
disposals might just be fed right into the Chesapeake Bay and they probably do not care. This is a big
problem all over the world, not just the Chesapeake Bay. (Decline of Submerged Plants in the
Chesapeake Bay) Another reason to why there is such a decline in not just algae but other grasses is
that the warming trend over the last 20 years, global warming. By the looks of it, the warming trend is
not going to stop, so this may be a problem to deal with for a longer time. Natural diseases is another
way the decline in algae and other grass plants is happening. Mostly dead organisms is the reason for
these natural diseases. Once you get a bunch of bacteria and fungi, you will hope to get rid of the
algae or grasses because it will most likely just end up making the Bay worse, and turning away
species. The number of hurricanes the Chesapeake Bay takes does not help the cause. Hurricanes are
affecting the salinity of the Bay. The salinity affects the growth and the amount that grows in a plant
as well. (Decline of Submerged Plants in the Chesapeake Bay) The pollution can fall down into the
water and you may find pollutants in the sediment. The sediment is home to many species. It can be
very protective to large predators and large predators can possibly hide in there while they wait for an
attack. Ways the pollutants are getting down there is carelessness by the fisherman and the people in
charge of it to take

Adult Learning Theory
Adult Learning Theory in Online Education
The developments of technology has changed the way which adult students may choose to obtain a
college degree. Through the use of their computer, they may opt to attend an online only college or
university. While it may not be apparent to the student, a lot of research has been conducted regarding
the most effective way to teach adults and children based upon how they learn. An awareness in
different teaching theories could make an adult student a better consumer when it comes to shopping
for their best value in education. This paper will explore the theories of andragogy and pedagogy,
along with their implications for online adult education.

Additionally, the main themes behind the assumptions about learning within this model are that the
student is dependent on the teacher for the activities which will perpetuate learning and that the
students past experiences have no value. This method also makes the assumption that the factors
which make a student want to learn are external in nature, such as good grades and pleasing others.
Wang states The primary reason the whole educational enterprise has been frozen into the pedagogical
model is that between infancy and adolescence, no other model is better than the pedagogical teaching
and learning model. (Wang, p.6). Since children are more dependent in nature, and do not have
knowledge through life experiences, the pedagogical method makes sense when it comes to teaching
at their level. However, there is a lot of debate about how well it works for students who are
independent and who possess a larger knowledge base. Andragogy is the art or science of teaching
adults (Knowles, 2012). Malcolm Knowles introduced the term in the United States in the 1960s
(Wang, 2011). Knowles notes that a major psychological difference between children and adults is the
realization that as an adult, one is the director of their own life. Additionally, because of this change in
self awareness, teaching adults as if they are dependent does not harbor any sense of respect for their
ability to be self directed. There are four assumptions which are made about adult learning

Large Vs. Small Republic
Essay #1, Question 2
Large vs. Small Republic America is an incredibly vast, diverse country, and has been this way for
hundreds of years. The sheer size of America, even when it was only composed of thirteen states with
a total population of nearly three million people (Brutus, essay 1, p. 64), concerned many Americans
in the 1780s, due to this inquiry: was America simply too large for a republican style government to
work? Many anti federalists claimed that republics could only work on a small scale, while the
federalists believed that having a large republic was the only way to go and would be beneficial to the
public good. Before this time, history furnished no examples of a well functioning republic as big as
America, so the federalists and anti federalists were stepping into a completely new untouched
territory. Of course, history did furnish examples of small republics. The Anti federalists drew upon
these, in order to show that there are extreme advantages of having a small territory and population for

Typically the role of a professor or a teacher can be distorted or compromised. These issues are

Tenure, in recent years, has become a step of heated rivalry throughout the U.S. higher educational
system like the continual employment of under performing teachers/professors.
In education, tenure is often thought of as a significant issue. There are several pros and cons with
reference to tenure. The primary advantage is that tenure prevents educators from being caught for
inappropriate reasons. Though anti tenure supporters can state that this can be now not applicable, the
actual fact is that before tenure lecturers were usually in trouble for private, political, or different non
teaching connected reasons. Female educators were relinquishing for inappropriate reasons, or being
seen at the incorrect institutions too late in the dark. Different teachers/professors can run into trouble
for teaching disputed subjects like evolution or for arguing with the diversity board or administration.
The second advantage is that irremovable educators can be very troublesome to dismiss. This can be
in all probability the foremost ordinarily detected criticism concerning tenure. Tenure doesn t grant
professors immunity from being fired from their positions, however it will create some issues within
the matter.
Tenure protects professors from false accusations. It offers educators protection from a state of affairs

Research Paper On 1930s Music
Research Paper: The 1930s
When the Great Depression hit its lowest point, approximately 15 million Americans were
unemployed and nearly half of the nation s banks failed says, History.com. From the music that people
listened to, to the clothing they wore, the people of the 1930s were forced to change their lifestyle.
The way people lived changed dramatically during the 1930s due to the Great Depression. Many new
musicians were founded during this era. There was a huge switch in the music industry and the genres
that existed. For example, two of many new genres were introduced throughout the 30s. Hillbilly folk
and Western. The center of this new western music was Texas, where taverns with new jukeboxes or
stages entertained patrons. Musicians dressed as cowboys became legendary during this decade. By
the end of this generation, western music became a lot more danceable and rowdy (Berg). Hillbilly
folk first originated from the Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast. A few folk musicians that
prospered this genre were, the Carter Family and the Smoky Mountain Boys. Hillbilly music benefited
especially from radio programming like the National Barn Dance and the Grand Ole Opry. As
mentioned in 1930s: Music . Although there were many more genres, those two are the ones that
became very popular over the course of the 30s. Not only did music provide a distraction, but it also
supplied entertainment.

How Did Woodrow Wilson Affect The Economy
Woodrow Wilson, as the 28th President of the United States, enacted some of the most sweeping
economic overhauls the American government has ever seen. The Professor President , by
compromising and cutting deals, was able to bring to life his vision of reform in the business world.
The Underwood Simmons bill, the Federal Reserve Act, the Federal Trade Commission Act and the
Clayton Anti Trust Act were all brought about by Wilson as tools to further his goal of taking away
power from the large corporations and banks and giving it to the small businesses and entrepreneurs.
First, Wilson enacted the Underwood Simmons bill in 1913. This Act lowered the trade tariffs for the

The control of credit also has become dangerously centralized. It is the mere truth to say that the
financial resources of the country are not at the command of those who do not submit to the direction
and domination of small groups of capitalists who wish to keep the economic development of the
country under their own eye and guidance. Wilson wanted to take the power away from the banks in
New York and make money more available to people outside of Wall Street by spreading it throughout
the country in independent reserves that were controlled by the federal government and not bankers.
We must have a currency, not as rigid as now, but readily, elastically responsive to sound credit, the
expanding and contracting credits of everyday transactions, the normal ebb and flow of personal and
corporate dealings. Our banking laws must mobilize reserves; not permit the concentration anywhere
in a few hands of the monetary resources of the country or their use for speculative purposes in such
volume as to hinder or impede or stand in the way of other more legitimate, more fruitful uses. And
the control of the system of banking and of issue which our new laws are to set up must be public, not
private, must be vested in the Government itself, so that the banks may be the instrument, not the

Evolution Of Firefighting

English 12 3a Evolution of Fire Fighting
Firefighting is a dangerous job. It takes lots of courage to have to endure the harsh conditions of a
structural or rural fire, all while trying to save someone s life. Fire fighters put their life on the line to
save the environment, people, and animals. With all of the harsh conditions involving putting out a
fire, there is lots of equipment that a firefighter must use to protect themselves such as strategies that
are used in the time of emergencies, technology that is used to help prevent fires as well as technology
used in a fire, and the personal protective gear that fire fighters use. Personal protective equipment,
Technology and knowledge in prevention of fires are all being updated and improved each day, which
is evidence of how the firefighting industry has evolved throughout time.
Firefighting is a job that has been around since earliest times of urban development. There has always
been someone in the town that was brave enough to try and put out a fire, however the category of
firefighting as a job/career has only been around since the late 1800 s. The brave men who would put
their life on the line in the early stages of firefighting had very little equipment to protect them as well
as no real strategies or knowledge of how a fire is needed to be prevented as well as how a fire needs
to be put out. As time went on, there began to be more technology which helps in the innovation of the

Social Media And Its Effects On Society Essay
Nations around the globe rely on all types of media to address the general population about occurring
events or incidents in the country. Countries such as America and China are well known for their
excessive use of the media to cover important and none important events around the nation. The
general public is affected by the media s control in many forms, which can include media marketing of
consumerism and social media. The Truman Show alludes the society in which compliance is forced,
due to the media s overwhelming control over the general public; and argues that there is no actual
media control can be broken free from, because it is a person s choice to seek their own path to
freedom. This theme is illustrated through the symbolism of the characters of Christof, Truman s Wife
Meryl, and Truman. The claim is supported by the articles that include, 13 ways of looking at The
Truman Show by Yacowar , Mapping the culture of control by Wise J. Macgregor, and The Staging of
real life by Kilborn . The central argument that, We accept the reality of the world with which we are
presented (Wise), is supported in Mapping the culture of control by Wise because the general public
want what everyone wants due to their need of fitting in with the so called social norm.
Christof s purpose is that of a symbolic character in which he supports the media s control over the
general public. In many parts throughout the film Christof displays himself as overpowering and

Argument Against Conscription In Australia
Conscription was a highly divisive issue in the newly formed country of Australia for multiple
reasons. These include the fact that there were many pros and cons to the issue, two plebiscites had
been rejected by the public and that the public had very split views on the subject (The Australian War
memorial, 2018). It is unlikely that people today will ever be able to come to a conclusion as to
whether or not conscription was a good idea for Australia and its people as the effectiveness of war is
still a highly debated subject in the modern world. It can be hypothesised that conscription was a
highly divisive issue due to Australians split views on the subject.

Budget and Budgetary Control Practices
CHAPTER I
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Budget and budgetary control practices are undeniably indispensable as organizations routinely go
about their business activities and operations. These organizations are constantly on the alert on how
actual levels of performance agree with planned or budgeted performance. A budget expresses a plan
in monetary terms. It is prepared and approved prior to a particular budgeted period and explicitly may
show the income, expenditure and the capital to be employed by organizations in achieving their goals
and objectives.
Budgeting control practices are then devices that organizations use to regulate their budgets. The
controls are mostly comprehensive systems of budgets that aid management in carrying out its ...

Effects Of The Amistad Revolt
On July 2, 1839, 53 hostage Africans on board the Amistad, a slave ship, broke out of their chains and
snuck up to the primary deck, where they overpowered and killed two crewmembers and incapacitated
the rest. Having hence seized control of the ship, they endeavored to cruise back to their country, just
to be deluded into traveling north rather than east. Throughout the following two months, they went
around 1,400 miles from Cuba to Long Island, New York, until the point when the Naval force lifted
them up and re imprisoned them. The Amistad was not the only slave revolt, but one of the most
significant. This revolt was an integral part of slave history because it brought attention to the issue of
slavery, inspired many, and helped establish laws and court systems today.
This Revolt brought attention to the issue of slavery. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries,
approximatelyn expected 12 million Africans were persuasively dispatched over the Atlantic Sea to
the New World. Of those, no less than 1.5 million are said to have died before reaching shore. Many
states had made the importation of slaves illegal. However, since bondage itself stayed lawful in the
greater part of those spots, unlawful exercises flourished. Along the shore of present day Sierra Leone,
for instance, Spanish slave merchant Pedro Blanco kept his business thriving with the assistance of a

What are Kidney Stones?
Kidney Stones are also called Renal Calculi. Nephrolithiasis is the condition of having Kidney Stones
. These stones come about from chemicals in the urine, forming a tough crystalline mineral deposit
from within the kidney, that stick together inside the kidney or urinary tract. Typically, they develop in
the inner surfaces of one or both of the kidneys. Supersaturation urine is what actually creates the

Joining Band Essay
The Best Decision I ever made: Joining Band
Five years ago, I was introduced to the subject of band by my best friend and that introduction sowed
the seed to join. The next decision I faced was the important choice of an instrument, which was not
very hard for me. I chose the clarinet because it was the only one that responded with a grateful sound.
Without my license and parents working late at night, I had to search for a ride since I assumed my
friend, who attended band on a different day, could take me. Getting up an hour earlier than most
students proved to be a struggle for me, but as time went on it became less challenging. Joining band
was and is more than a musical exercise for me; it equates unity with harmony, personal growth with
rhythm, and benefits with melody on the larger playing field of life.

Interview Panel On The Middle School Basketball Coaches Essay
Activity Description and Summary For this activity I was responsible for being part of our interview
panel to hire our middle school basketball coaches. We hired four coaches to help mentor our fifth,
sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys basketball teams. I was part of a three person interview panel
that featured our principal, athletic director, and me. This interview process was the first time I ve
been a part of hiring someone to feel a need at the school. The topic we interviewed is something I
was comfortable with because I have coached basketball the past six years. I felt like I could find us
the right fit and discussed the opportunity to be a part of the hiring process because of the need of this
internship activity. It s hard to find an interview process during the year for teachers, but I believe
coaching is a great substitute for teaching because it is an extension of the classroom. Learning how to
play a sport and how you conduct yourself on the court can help you later in life. I wanted to find a
candidate that could be a role model for the students and help teach them life lessons through the
game of basketball. We all agreed we are looking for someone who will stress that basketball doesn t
come above our education and our families. Our school has struggled with student achievement and I
think sports can help motivate students to do better in the classroom. The class that best aligns with

Computer Vs. Personal Computers
Smart phones and computer have been around for quite a while, but the only difference is that the
personal computers have been around way longer than smart phones. Before computers were a big

so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart phones now. I
understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree with what I m saying,
but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Personal computers is a better, electronic than
smart phones because personal computers are not a distraction, and are a lot more helpful. First,
personal computers are less distracting. Computer actually need access to Wi Fi in order to do
anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi Fi then you can t access your social
media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be distracting while driving because you won t have
Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can pay more attention to driving than being on social
media. Computers also don t receive text messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. This
electronic is also good for when doing homework because you can listen to music, type better, and
faster on the keyboard. In contrary, smartphones are very distracting. Smartphones can be helpful
when you can t access Wi Fi for google maps or just looking up a store for hours, email and other

Any such modeling in whole or part requires caution and humility, and the results are specific to the
model and its assumptions. They should not be endowed with a precision and certainty that is simply
impossible to achieve. The chief uncertainties with the impacts of climate change are ignorance of
time factor, technological advances, economics, policy, planning and society. These include the
difficulties of estimating the costs of technologies several decades into the future, as well as the way in
which fossil fuel prices evolve in the future. It is also hard to know how people will respond to price
changes.
Majority of current data uses time factors of different definitions that make such data hard to relate
from a reference line. For example is it possible to define the pre industrial era levels for health and
longevity of human life compared to current with respect to air pollution levels. Most data uses
probabilistic models to speculate for the variation in time. However, such models involve many
assumptions that inherently have uncertainties.

measures to cut emissions across different sectors is studied to weigh the impacts. Consider the case

The rewards would come later (8)
Stalin s revolution is a term signifying the drastic increase in power experienced by the bureaucracy
during the 1930 s. The First Five Year Plan incorporated policies which furthered mass production.
The goal was to increase industrialization in order to reconstruct the Soviet Union into a utopian and
powerful nation. The politburo, titled nashi vozhdi , was determined to create a nation which worked
as a single, mass producing machine. Everyone was under constant watch and expected to work in a
campaign style, ...In short, hectic bursts of concentrated attention to particular tasks, not through
routine, incremental activity. This made life at the factory resemble life at the front... (32). Efficient
and vigourous production was key to reconstructing the Soviet Union into an industrialized and
socialist state. Shortages were one of the major issues encountered during the perestroika. The
inexperienced bureaucracy was comprised of unqualified officials who developed an unrealistic and
unorganized economy. Marxist thought encouraged heavy industry. The major drawback was that it

True Dimensionality of Space-Time
Allan Poe states in his essay on cosmology titled Eureka, that space and duration are one. To many,
this is portrayed as the first known instance of suggesting space and time to be joined together as one
thing. Albert Einstein s 1905 theory of special relativity is the very beginning of a theory related
concept of spacetime, but the first mathematical theory of spacetime actually created by one of his
own early teachers named Hermann Minkowski. He created the concept of Minkowski Space which is
the earliest recommendation to the treatment of space and time as two separate entities of one unified
whole. The idea of Minkowski space has led up to special relativity being viewed more so in a
geometrical way rather than a scientific and mathematical way. Minkowski space is described as the
mathematical formation for which special relativity can be conveniently formulated. In this setting the
three dimensions of space are combined with one dimension of time to create a four dimensional
whole expressed together as spacetime.
It would be considered extremely important to consider the events that space and time can ultimately
affect each other and how space and time are used in cosmological research. However, before
touching base with the concept of space time, it seems appropriate to tie together the two basic types
of dimensions and how they are ultimately applied to each other. Space time is closely linked with
Albert Einstein s theory of special relativity, mathematician

Standing Up To The Bully-Personal Narrative
The bitter cold of winter bit Rebecca s nose. She didn t mind though, because it was snowing. This is a
very unusual event, if you have lived in North Carolina for your entire life, like Rebecca. It almost
never snows in North Carolina. The snow stuck to Rebecca s short, chin length hair. The white snow,
stood out brilliantly, because her hair is such a dark brown. Her green eyes squinted, trying to see
Junior Inc. As soon as she could see the tall business building, she rushed to it. Only then did she
realize that all of the buttons on her shirt were in the wrong places. She grumbled, knowing that she is
already too late for work to be able to change them now. She ran to the building, her black cardigan
doing nothing against the cold wind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How could you possibly think that? What did I do that made you think I am completely incapable of

super important job, instead of me! And I ve been working here for almost two years now! And you
still don t trust me!
He stared at her blankly, seeming to not understand. With tears stinging her eyes, she pushed past him,
and rushed down the hall, into the meeting room. She stared out of the window, and she realized that
the snowfall ended. Great, she thought, a once in a lifetime opportunity wasted.
After being in the meeting room for maybe thirty minutes, Rebecca excused herself, she simply
couldn t focus. She knew that she probably was going to be fired. She pulled out her flip phone, and
pulled it open. She just had to call or talk to someone.
She went to her favorites, and stared at the three names in front of her. Alan, Mom, and Dad. She didn
t want to call her Dad, because she knew that he probably was with her stepmother. She thought about
calling her Mom, but didn t want to. The last time she spoke to her Mom, they had been in a huge
fight. She knew she wanted to tell Alan to his face, but he probably was still working. Then, once

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Poetry Annotated
KEY ASSIGNMENT FIVE PARAGRAPH THREE (WHY LONGFELLOW WROTE POETRY)
SHAPING SHEET Topic Sentence Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s life unquestionably led him to
write poetry. Evidence #1 (fact and explanation about Longfellow s life that proves it influenced him
to write poetry). One fact from Longfellow s life that both his father and grandfather served in the
military and then became congressmen. He was also named after his mother s brother Henry
Wadsworth, which was a Navy lieutenant who had died three years earlier at the Battle of Tripoli. So
Henry had lots of people how sacrificed their lives for their country. After the War his grandfather, and

A poet has to make poem by making a statement or teaching a lesson but it has to be important enough
to affect the whole nation like the blacksmith who effects the village he lives in. Longfellow is trying
to be show that he is the blacksmith by showing how hard the blacksmith works everyday of his life
like Longfellow trying to help his nation during the American Revolutionary War. For example in
Kavanagh, Longfellow told his father through a poem he wanted to be a poet not a lawyer. Kavanagh
is the story of a country romance. Besides a character named Kavanagh, among its characters is a
school teacher named Mr. Churchill, who has always planned to write a romance, but whose
procrastination never allows him to start, until late in life he resigns himself to his destiny. Longfellow
also used the novel to argue against the view, in the book propounded by a character based on
Cornelius Mathews, that American literature must be entirely devoid of European influences and be
exclusively national. Instead, Longfellow felt that American literature could and should be
universalist, with its unique North American

Descriptive Adjectives In The Monkey s Paw And The House...
Descriptive Adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, and The House of the Scorpion.
The author, Erik Pevernagie, once said, When ideas evaporate, when shapes fade and forms lose their
integrity, our imagination can create an outlandish setting and convert everything into a hazy, misty
Turner landscape. ( Back garden of a dream ) .
Many writers often use specific words and details to help bring the reader into the story. By using
these words the writer helps develop a setting, and it brings the reader into, and be able to experience
it as if they were there. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W Jacobs, and the novel, The House of
the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author uses descriptive adjectives to help develop the setting. First,
the author uses descriptive adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, to develop setting in the story. This helps
the reader see and feel the setting as if they were really there. In addition, the quote, Without, the night
was cold and wet, but in the small Laburnum Villa the blinds were drawn and the fire burned brightly.
The quote helps to set the stage of the story, while also bringing a warm, and inviting kind of mood.
Saying that the fire burned brightly brings a comforting feeling to the reader like they are with the
characters in the story. Next, another example of Descriptive adjectives would be, A cold wind rushed
up the staircase, and a long loud wail of disappointment and misery from his wife gave him the
courage to run down to her side, and then to the gate beyond. The streetlamp flickering opposite shone
on a quiet and deserted road. This quote brings an unsettling but relieved state of mind. The father just
wished away his undead son, and the tension in the story is released. Saying the street lamp was
flickering on a quiet and deserted road brings the reader into the story as if they were staring off into
the street with the characters. Lastly, descriptive adjectives is in the quote, He sat until he was chilled
with the cold, glancing occasionally at the figure of the old woman in the window. The candle end,
which had burned below the rim of the china candlestick, was throwing pulsating shadows on the
ceiling and walls, until, with a flicker larger than the rest,

Humanism the Gateway to Individualism
The greatest and most influential intellectual movement of Renaissance Italy was humanism. The
humanists believed that the Greek and Latin classics contained all the lessons one needed to lead a
moral and effective life and were the best models for a person to live by. They developed a new kind
of classical scholarship, with which they corrected and tried to understand the works of the Greeks and
Romans, which was important to them. Both the republic elites of Florence and Venice, and the ruling
families of Milan, Ferrara, and Urbino hired humanists to teach their children classical morality and to
write elegant, classical letters, histories, and propaganda. The quest for education of this society
allowed the concept of individuality to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francesco Petrarch, the great Renaissance humanist, noted other humanists, and innumerable others
like them, signifying the popularity classical literature had in the then recent past. Pico della
Mirandola, a Florentine writer, stated in his On the Dignity of Man, that there are no limits placed on
what man can accomplish. His rationalization was that man was not subject to the fate of God or
predestination, rather that he controls his own destiny, and that his accomplishments were limitless
within the range of achievements available to man. Leonardo da Vinci may have been known at his
time as a great painter, but he may also have been one of the greatest mathematicians of that era.
Renaissance artists, such as Michelangelo and Raphael, writers and philosophers such as Petrarch and
Machiavelli, the great composers like Mozart and Bach, athletes who revived ancient Roman athletics
such as discus and javelin competitions, and even the Popes, who, unfortunately, were sometimes no
more than successful businessmen before fulfilling their holy duties, were, in all groups, somewhat of
a peasant heritage. Never before had society s greatest thinkers come from the peasant class.
Humanism spreads the idea of society away from rigid systems of classes built on economic wealth,
but rather opportunities were open for the people of lower classes. This was due

Essay on Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease is a progressive condition where the neurons degenerate in the brain, while the
brain substance shrinks in volume. Alzheimer s is also the number one cause of dementia. When it was
first noticed, Alzheimer s was thought to be a pre senile disease, but now it is known to be responsible
for seventy five percent of the dementia cases in people over sixty five years of age. Alzheimer s
disease usually causes several years of personal and intellectual decline until death. Because there is
an increasing number of elderly citizens in the United States, research into the causes and possible
cures for the disease is on the rise (1).

Also, women are thought to be at a slightly higher risk than men (4).
The symptoms of the disease vary somewhat among individuals. However, there are three distinct
stages that a person suffering from Alzheimer s will experience. In the first stage, the patient
experiences some problems with memory loss and will often make lists or other aids to compensate
for this loss. The individual can begin to feel depressed or anxious because of the memory problems.
This stage often Goes unnoticed as symptoms of Alzheimer s (1).
The second stage is marked by the change from forgetfulness to severe memory loss. Long aGo events
are often easier to recall than things that have happened within the last few days. For example, one
might remember childhood events but are unable to remember what they saw on television last night
or what they ate for breakfast. Disorientation in relation to time and place occurs often, along with
increased anxiety and recurring mood swings. The patient also experiences dysphasia (inability in
finding the right word to say), increased difficulty with math problems, and loss of direction in
familiar places. Personality changes will soon become noticeable when this second stage is reached
(1).
Finally, the third stage is marked by severe disorientation and confusion. Usually, the worst signs of
memory loss and disorientation occur at night. In this

Because of this, it is been taught for millennials that meat is an essential to our bodies for survival and health. While we are capable of eating meat, the question is, should we? Firstly, humans do not need to eat meat, or any other animal products for that matter, for survival. Modern day humans are not living in the same conditions as early humans were, making it unnecessary for us to consume animal products. We no longer need to rely on animals for consumption, and in fact, it is actually best to leave them absent from your diet. Numerous amounts of studies have been conducted that support the claim that consuming animal products is detrimental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most common arguments is that our ancestors ate it, so so should we. Humans have had omnivorous diets since the beginning of mankind, and this has been an argument that is oftenly used against veganism. Early humans were scavengers and ate whatever they could find for the purpose of survival and it is believed that humans ate a majority of meat, however scientific studies have shown otherwise. In a study conducted, plant derived fiber was the majority of what was found in early human feces (nutritionfacts.org). Vegaprocity (vegaprocity.com) shows that both carnivores and omnivores require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, while all herbivores, frugivores, and humans do require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, however in America, usually less than half the recommended fiber intake a day is consumed (nutritionfacts.org). While there is no denial that early humans did not hunt and eat animals, this suggests that the majority of what was ate ate was not meat, but in fact plants and herbs. When compared to carnivores, humans show more similarity to herbivores and frugivores. One of the common arguments used in opposition to veganism is that humans are supposed to eat meat because the mechanism of our body suggest so. This, however, is false. During the 1990 s, the ground coffee industry was stagnant; slowly declining sales. On the other hand, the whole bean market has grown by 8% annually since 1990. A survey suggests that 36% of coffee drinkers purchased whole bean coffee because they believed that roasting at home would give a fresher, better taste. Another factor decreasing our market share is the international market. Although we are increasing in every market domestically, our international market has greatly decreased by 26.6% during 2001 to 2002. Our decrease is equal to a full year percentage of sales of 2001 2002 in Southern New England. (MA, CT, RI). Green Mountain also faces several problems because it is simply a wholesaler. Starbucks coffee is a familiar name to customers with a reputation, which precedes its name. Green Mountain simply does not because of our limitations of being a wholesaler. Green Mountain made a decision to close all their locations because of flat sales and a lease problem. The retail locations are important because they are a vehicle for consumers to sample Green Mountain coffee. Starbucks retail locations help customers familiarize with its products. III. In Union County it appears that food insecurity is not nearly as prevalent. A deeper look will show that considering more factors is necessary when determining need. Some of the counties GMFB services have large rural areas where transportation can be a barrier as well as limited access to food sources near them. Figure 1 below also indicates the locations of the agencies GMFB supports and gives us a clear picture of how well we are meeting the areas of need as well as any gaps. A Critique of the Juliette Beck Speech Essay A Critique of the Juliette Beck Speech Juliette Beck s speech, Reclaiming Just and Sustainable Communities in the Age of Corporate Globalization neither adequately described the problems of globalization as it is currently structured, nor did it provide any answers to the problems with it, either the real problems that actually exist (labor and environmental exploitation) or the problems that Beck purported (large corporations). Primarily, Beck s speech was flawed in that it was incoherent and empirical incorrect. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Localism, by its nature, cannot address problems that exist beyond local levels. Globalization, it should be obvious, is one of these. Too bad for us on the left certain supposedly left political analysts of global activity cannot pick up this basic truth. Maybe part of the reason one analyst in particular is unable to realize the futility of localism is that she has succumbed to the false romantic ideology that small is beautiful . Much in the same way as libertarians and conservative, Beck beat on the drum of Localism, relating to the audience the horrors of such companies as Wal Mart, Nike, and Starbucks. She advised us not to shop at these as they (in the case of Wal Mart) drive out mom and pop stores in local communities. As an alternative, we should shop at locally own stores, and buy fair trade coffee. One should not try to persuade others into action on the basis of one s own guilt, for it is futile if one seeks structurally change. But this is what Beck does, by personalizing the trauma (your local store vs. big nasty corporate stores), and it is not effective. Instead of focusing on the problems of one order of Capitalism (localism) vs. a different order of Capitalism (big business), one should realizes that it is Capitalism itself that is the impetus of the problem, and that the Capitalist exploitation of the earth, labor, and ... Their disposals might just be fed right into the Chesapeake Bay and they probably do not care. This is a big problem all over the world, not just the Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, the main themes behind the assumptions about learning within this model are that the student is dependent on the teacher for the activities which will perpetuate learning and that the students past experiences have no value. This method also makes the assumption that the factors which make a student want to learn are external in nature, such as good grades and pleasing others. Wang states The primary reason the whole educational enterprise has been frozen into the pedagogical model is that between infancy and adolescence, no other model is better than the pedagogical teaching and learning model. (Wang, p.6). Since children are more dependent in nature, and do not have knowledge through life experiences, the pedagogical method makes sense when it comes to teaching at their level. However, there is a lot of debate about how well it works for students who are independent and who possess a larger knowledge base. Andragogy is the art or science of teaching adults (Knowles, 2012). Malcolm Knowles introduced the term in the United States in the 1960s (Wang, 2011). Knowles notes that a major psychological difference between children and adults is the realization that as an adult, one is the director of their own life. The sheer size of America, even when it was only composed of thirteen states with a total population of nearly three million people (Brutus, essay 1, p. 64), concerned many Americans in the 1780s, due to this inquiry: was America simply too large for a republican style government to work? Many anti federalists claimed that republics could only work on a small scale, while the federalists believed that having a large republic was the only way to go and would be beneficial to the public good. Before this time, history furnished no examples of a well functioning republic as big as America, so the federalists and anti federalists were stepping into a completely new untouched territory. Of course, history did furnish examples of small republics. The Anti federalists drew upon these, in order to show that there are extreme advantages of having a small territory and population for popular government, which promoted their reasoning for wanting to keep the main powers of government local at the state level. Brutus mentions an example of small republics in his first essay, stating that the Greek and Roman republics were of small extent at first. These republics were successful until they conquered more territory, which resulted in those republics becoming the most tyrannical that ever existed in the world. (Brutus, essay 1 p. 63). In education, tenure is often thought of as a significant issue. There are several pros and cons with reference to tenure. The primary advantage is that tenure prevents educators from being caught for inappropriate reasons. Though anti tenure supporters can state that this can be now not applicable, the actual fact is that before tenure lecturers were usually in trouble for private, political, or different non teaching connected reasons. Female educators were relinquishing for inappropriate reasons, or being seen at the incorrect institutions too late in the dark. He created the concept of Minkowski Space which is the earliest recommendation to the treatment of space and time as two separate entities of one unified whole. The idea of Minkowski space has led up to special relativity being viewed more so in a geometrical way rather than a scientific and mathematical way. Minkowski space is described as the mathematical formation for which special relativity can be conveniently formulated. In this setting the three dimensions of space are combined with one dimension of time to create a four dimensional whole expressed together as spacetime. It would be considered extremely important to consider the events that space and time can ultimately affect each other and how space and time are used in cosmological research. However, before touching base with the concept of space time, it seems appropriate to tie together the two basic types of dimensions and how they are ultimately applied to each other. The author, Erik Pevernagie, once said, When ideas evaporate, when shapes fade and forms lose their integrity, our imagination can create an outlandish setting and convert everything into a hazy, misty Turner landscape. ( Back garden of a dream ) . Many writers often use specific words and details to help bring the reader into the story. By using these words the writer helps develop a setting, and it brings the reader into, and be able to experience it as if they were there. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W Jacobs, and the novel, The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the author uses descriptive adjectives to help develop the setting. First, the author uses descriptive adjectives in The Monkey s Paw, to develop setting in the story. This helps the reader see and feel the setting as if they were really there. In addition, the quote, Without, the night was cold and wet, but in the small Laburnum Villa the blinds were drawn and the fire burned brightly. The quote helps to set the stage of the story, while also bringing a warm, and inviting kind of mood. Saying that the fire burned brightly brings a comforting feeling to the reader like they are with the characters in the story.
