Chindi ppt for fashion houses
1. Chindi knits, crochets, sews scrap
material into fun little products.
Everything is handmade, one of a
kind, glitchy, patchy and made with
love!

3. THE CHINDI STORY
“Chindi” is a colloquial term used by tailors and textile
factories for scrap fabric left over after production.
It is also a slang Hindi term to mean miserly or stingy.
We reclaim “chindi” as a positive, mindful life
philosophy!
4. THE CHINDI STORY
Chindi is a labour of love, combining our passions for
knitting, crochet, recycling and design.
It aims to promote knitting and crocheting as urban
handicrafts, not just something your grandmother once
did!
It is also an income-generating avenue for women.
5. THE CHINDI STORY
It has evolved into a social enterprise, with an investor
and currently supports 15 women from a slum in
Mankhurd, Mumbai.
We are also on our way to establishing a production unit
in the slums of Dharavi and Thane in partnership with
CORP [www.corpindia.org]
6. WHERE YOU COME IN!
In April 2014, Chindi launched a pilot project to make 4000
products to test the market and the sustainability of our model
Along with our investor, Rishab Apparel, a fabric import-export
house, we plan to sell the products in India and abroad
We are seeking to partner with fashion houses who wish to
ethically dispose off or recycle their cotton waste in exchange for
co-branding
We pay fair wages per piece to all the women and thus request a
gratis donation of chindi to support the women and the cause of
reducing textile waste
7. WHY SHOULD YOU DO THIS?
A CSR initiative
The newly passed Indian Companies Act 2013 stipulates that
companies with profit of 5 crore+ must allocate 2% of their net
profit for CSR initiatives, including women’s empowerment
and reducing social and economic inequality
