All Earth Shoulders, Median Areas and Cut and Fill slopes shall be plain or mulch seeded except where Sodding
is specified.
1. In Areas to Receive Pavement Components or New Embankment Fill All Topsoil, Wet or Soft/Loose Near
Surface Soils, and Existing Pavement Components Shall Be Removed From the Construction Limits.
2. Where Fill is Proposed on the Existing Slopes, Benches Shall Be Cut Into the Existing Slopes Before Fill
Placement so as to Key the New Fill Into the Slope in Accordance with INDOT Standard Specification 203.
Benches Having a Minimum Width of 10 Feet Shall Be Cut Into the Slope Before New Fill is Placed. Where
10 Feet Wide Benches are not Feasible Due to Shallow Embankment Heights, Minimum 4 Feet Wide
Benches are Recommended. Scarifying of the Slope Will Aid in Keying the New Fill Into the Slope.
3. Large Rocks and Boulders are known to be in the area and may exist within the Project Limits.
4. Benching Required at Guardrail Locations.
