 All India Dental Association(1928) by Dr. R. Ahmed .

COMPOSITION
 1 REGISTERED DENTIST possessing a recognized dental
qualification elected by the dentists registered in part A of
each state register .
 1 MEMBER elected from amongst themselves by the
members of the MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA .
 1 MEMBER to represent each state nominated by the
government of each such state from among persons
registered either in medical or dental register of state .

 6 MEMBERS nominated by the central government of whom
atleast one shall be a registered dentist possesssing a recognized
dental qualification & practicing & holding an appointment in
an institution for the training for dentists , and atleast 2 shall be
dentists registered in PART B of a state register .

The DCI is a statutory body which maintains
the standard of dental education and further
the duty of the council to registered qualified
dentist and eliminate quacks from the field .

TO SERVE ABOVE FUNCTIONS THE DCI HAS
FORMEDSOME RULES & REGULATIONS IN
WHICH THE FOLLOWING ARESPECIFIED
[1] Basic principles for the maintenance of minimum education
standard for the B.D.S. degree .
[2] Minimum physical requirements of a dental college .
[3] Minimum staff pattern for undergraduate dental studies in
colleges with 40 , 60 and 100 addmissions .

[4] Basic qualifications & teaching experience required to
teach B.D.S. & M.D.S. Students .
[5] Migration establishment of dental facilities , its duration
of course , selection of students .
[6] Migration & transfer rules for students .
[7] Regulations of scheme of examination for B.D.S. & M.D.S
[8] Dental Curriculum :- Time & subject specifications to
clinical program , syllabus etc .

 Elections shall be conducted in the prescribed manner &
where any dispute arises regarding any such election , it
shall be referred to the Central government whose decision
shall be final .
 An elected or nominated member shall hold office for a term
of 5 yrs .

Editor's Notes

  • #4 IDA is a professional association of dentists in india .Before that it was called the AIDA which was formed in 1928 .
  • #5 The main objectives of the association are ALLIED SCIENCES – they are a group of health professionals who helps in preventing disease transmission, diagnose & treat people of all ages & all specialities .
  • #6 For the attainment(fullfillment) of the above objectives & to strengthen thE IDA, various programmes are undertaken & different measures adopted for its implementation . These include :-
  • #7 EXEMPTION means it is a type of tax exemption which allows a certain amount of income .
  • #8 IDA has got a registered office in INDIA where the honorary secretary resides . Branches of this association spreads all over INDIA . So there are mainly 2 types of branches
  • #9 Local and state branches are formed for the better attainment of the objectives of the association . Local branches should have a minimum of 30 annual / life members & there shall not be more than 1 branch in the same town .
  • #10 All the Dental practitioners registered under the Indian Dentist Act 1948 are eligible to become members of the association.
  • #17 Privileges of ida membership.privileges means rights.there are 3 main rights of ida members
  • #18 The central council is composed of the following members of the association .
  • #19 OFFICE BEARER -a person who holds a position of authority and responsibility in a government or other organization . For the proper management of the association , the following office bearers are elected . SO in this the HONORARY SECRETARY ,JOINT SECRETARY,ASSISTANT SECRETARY & TREASURER MUST PRACTICE IN THE CITY WHERE THE HEAD OFFICE IS LOCATED . The central council has the right to [1] enquire into the charges leveled against any of the office bearers & [2] has the power to remove the office bearer by the no confidence motion .
  • #20 Functions of central council of ida .The functions of the central council is to direct & regulate the general affairs of the association .The council has been given the following powers also ;- [4] one of the imp. Function of the council is. The decision of the central council in all the matters shall be final .
  • #21 The DCI formed on 12th april 1949 . The DCI was incorporated under the DENTIST’s ACT 1948
  • #22 As per dentist act 1948, the representatives of the following groups contribute to the composition of DCI .
