Akhil Baker was a British architect born in 1917 in Birmingham, UK who pioneered the use of vaulted brick structures. Some of his principles included using filler slabs, jack arches, and masonry domes which provided advantages like reduced materials and costs, energy efficiency, decoration, and maintenance-free structures. He designed the Lodi colony in New Delhi using local materials like brick, stone, and ceramic tiles with techniques like shading devices, courtyards, and good drainage.
