Photoshop
                   
 On the left of the previous slide that is camera raw
where the image itself was taken in a raw form and
the basics are edited in this window.
 Then you would take it to Photoshop where more
drastic changes can be made then saved in a Jpeg
  form.
How It
    Flows

How It Flows
                
 This is about the way your eye travels around the
  photo.
 The one on the top left you eye will follow the fence
into the photo, same with the vine.
 The headlight your eye will circle the headlight and
reach the corners but you focus more on the light.
 The last one at the bottom left your eye will follow
the colour of the water and it takes your eye toward
the outside and then back into the middle.
Exposure
           
Exposure
                    
 Exposure is the depth of your shadows and
  highlights.
 Going from left to right the exposure becomes
  brighter.
 The first is far to dark and you would use this to
create silhouette the middle is the correct exposure.
The darks and lights are nicely balanced and the
detail is clear. The last one is way over exposed and
is washed out and hard to look at, the leaves have
become hotspots which are highlights that have
become white instead of their original colour.


Saturation
Saturation
                    
 This is the vibrancy of the colour in your photos and
how you can change the whole colour of it.
 The top left has the leaves very bright and unnatural
looking and as they move right they become more
  natural looking
 The truck has some of the colour leached out without
having the features losing shape and looking washed
  out.
 The cross is only an example of the colour changing
to create a more dramatic photo.
Contrast


Contrast
                    
 Contrast is conflicting colours. Usually it is a light
and a dark colour, the dark colour brings out the
lighter and makes it more noticeable.
 In these three picture it is an orange and a blue, the
blue brings out the oranges so they become the focal
  point in the photo
Black and
  White
   
Black & White
                  
 Black and white can really bring out the light in your
picture and is a very formal, smooth way to present your
  pictures.
 The dandelion, you can see the light is coming from
behind the fluff, by having it that way the seeds are more
pronounced and you get more detail within the fluff.
 On the right the picture is inverted so the blacks have
become white to show more detail in the trees and the
  figure.
 On the saxophone the reflection becomes the focus and is
  more elegant than in colour.


    Erasing
    Layers
Erasing Layers
                 
 Erasing a layer is a simple way to bring out a flower
or something colourful in a black background or
create a ghost look. If you don’t like something in a
layer, but you like the rest then you can always erase
the one piece that doesn’t work, and create a nice
  image.
 The two on the left are examples of erasing on black
  backgrounds.
 The barriers are leading your eye to see a soccer goal
in the image that has been faded out by adjusting the
  opacity on that layer.
Filter Affects
                 
Filter Affects
                   
 These can be used in Photoshop as preset layers that
add interesting things to your photo.
 The horses have been blurred out so that they have
  an aura around them.
 The bottle cap has a plastic layer on it so the dips in
the photo are highlighted as if shrink wrapped.
 The sax is pixelated so it looks crystalized, almost
  like stained glass.
 The dog is a graphic layer so it looks drawn.
Rule Of
Thirds
          
The Rule of Thirds
              
 The rule of thirds is four imaginary lines, two
horizontal and two vertical. These lines create a nine
squared grid on the photo so you can keep the main
focus in a more proper place.
 The rule of thirds also applies to the content in the
image, instead of having two apples say, have three
so one is in the middle.
 All the photos follow the rule of thirds, all of them
are on the lines or in one of the nine squares.
Abstract

Abstract
                      
 All abstract is, is a faint idea that can be perceived as
anything. Most abstract things can mean different things
  to different people.
 All of these photos below have been thought of
  differently.
 The top one seen as the barrier between winter and
summer or as a representation of the equinox.
 The middle one as man against nature and how we will
  never win.
 The last one almost an illusion, for your eyes want to
focus on the nail but the drop of water is the focal point.


    Reflection
Reflection
                    
 Reflection is exactly that, not only are you taking a
picture of maybe a scenery or in these cases cars and
a motorbike, but you are focusing in on the detail
  inside them.
 All of these pictures are good examples. Most
reflections are done in black and white but they can
also be done nicely in colour.


    Noise
Noise
                      
 Noise is the content within an image. If the image is
to busy then it can be had to look at and can take
  away from the focal point.
 The picture on the top left has a car amid a lot of
vegetation. The plants really take away from the car
but by blending the colour it creates a frame around
the car to draw more attention to it
 The photo on the bottom has the bush around it, but
the three gravestones even it out so you look at the
  middle gravestone.


Sharpening
Sharpening
                  
 Sharpening is increasing the accent on the lines of
  images.
 The two images on the top have the detail brought
out so that the water and water drops can be seen
and the reflection is better and more clear.
 The same is with the snow, the sharpening brought
out a focal point in the image.


Lighting
Lighting
                     
 The lighting in a photo can cause it to be well
detailed with nice shadows and highlights or it can
wash the colour out and create hotspots.
 The dandelion has a few hotspots in the thicker
clumps of fluff but it suites the image.
 The barbed wire has nice lighting form above to
really define the shape and almost make a silhouette.
 The trees have the light filtering from the leaves
which makes the trunk darker and the further up the
image you go the light brings out more leaves.
Picture Perfect

             
Picture Perfect
                 
 These are some images that didn’t have to be
touched in Photoshop or have very minimal
  alterations.
 The less you have to play with an image the greater
  the photo.
Simple
         
Simple
                      
 In photography less is more and the simpler the
photo in most cases the better.
 The leaf the main focus is the amber coloured water
drops, it isn't touched to much just sharpened to
  bring out the detail.
 The fence with the leaves in it is also very simple, by
slightly increasing the colour in the most frontward
leaves, you create a center point without changing it
to much and keeping it simple, but interesting


Texture
Texture
                     
 Texture is used to create a photo that you can almost
feel. Texture photos tend to be in black and white to
  keep detail/
 All the black and white photos have no real focus
point but they are fun to look at.
 The one in colour can be a texture photo, but in
colour it gets a little harder to get the same feeling.
Brushes

          
Brushes
                     
 You can use different types of brushes to reveal the
layer underneath, some brushes can add an
interesting element to the picture and make the
  photo.
 On the bottom left the saxophone is green and is
being revealed from a black background, the brush
was in the shape of a leaf and creates a natural feel to
  the image.
 On the top left the saxophone is black and white and
has black streaks running through it, this gives the
impression of blinds to make it edgy.
Portraits
            
Portraits
                     
 Theses are very precise shots that focus mainly on
the triangle of the eyes and nose, so the face can stay
  in focus.
 The dog is focused right between his eyes, this way
his whole face is in focus, that way his legs and the
ground are blurred slightly so they don’t take away
  from his face.
 The statue however isn’t a headshot, it’s a full body
shot but the whole body and face is clear. To only
have shot the face doesn’t give the mood that the
  whole body provided.
Expression

             
Expression
                    
 To take a picture of an animal or a person it is best to
have an expression on their face, not only is it more
interesting but it can make or break the photo.
 The dog is the same in all the photos but his
expression varies from, really excited, to looking
embarrassed and asking for help, to being relaxed
  and drowsy in the sun.
 All the differences in expression change the whole
mood of the photo, and make it more fun to look at.

Independent project

  • 2. Photoshop
  • 3. Photoshop   On the left of the previous slide that is camera raw where the image itself was taken in a raw form and the basics are edited in this window.  Then you would take it to Photoshop where more drastic changes can be made then saved in a Jpeg form.
  • 4. How It Flows 
  • 5. How It Flows   This is about the way your eye travels around the photo.  The one on the top left you eye will follow the fence into the photo, same with the vine.  The headlight your eye will circle the headlight and reach the corners but you focus more on the light.  The last one at the bottom left your eye will follow the colour of the water and it takes your eye toward the outside and then back into the middle.
  • 6. Exposure
  • 7. Exposure   Exposure is the depth of your shadows and highlights.  Going from left to right the exposure becomes brighter.  The first is far to dark and you would use this to create silhouette the middle is the correct exposure. The darks and lights are nicely balanced and the detail is clear. The last one is way over exposed and is washed out and hard to look at, the leaves have become hotspots which are highlights that have become white instead of their original colour.
  • 9. Saturation   This is the vibrancy of the colour in your photos and how you can change the whole colour of it.  The top left has the leaves very bright and unnatural looking and as they move right they become more natural looking  The truck has some of the colour leached out without having the features losing shape and looking washed out.  The cross is only an example of the colour changing to create a more dramatic photo.
  • 11. Contrast   Contrast is conflicting colours. Usually it is a light and a dark colour, the dark colour brings out the lighter and makes it more noticeable.  In these three picture it is an orange and a blue, the blue brings out the oranges so they become the focal point in the photo
  • 12. Black and White 
  • 13. Black & White   Black and white can really bring out the light in your picture and is a very formal, smooth way to present your pictures.  The dandelion, you can see the light is coming from behind the fluff, by having it that way the seeds are more pronounced and you get more detail within the fluff.  On the right the picture is inverted so the blacks have become white to show more detail in the trees and the figure.  On the saxophone the reflection becomes the focus and is more elegant than in colour.
  • 14. Erasing Layers
  • 15. Erasing Layers   Erasing a layer is a simple way to bring out a flower or something colourful in a black background or create a ghost look. If you don’t like something in a layer, but you like the rest then you can always erase the one piece that doesn’t work, and create a nice image.  The two on the left are examples of erasing on black backgrounds.  The barriers are leading your eye to see a soccer goal in the image that has been faded out by adjusting the opacity on that layer.
  • 17. Filter Affects   These can be used in Photoshop as preset layers that add interesting things to your photo.  The horses have been blurred out so that they have an aura around them.  The bottle cap has a plastic layer on it so the dips in the photo are highlighted as if shrink wrapped.  The sax is pixelated so it looks crystalized, almost like stained glass.  The dog is a graphic layer so it looks drawn.
  • 19. The Rule of Thirds   The rule of thirds is four imaginary lines, two horizontal and two vertical. These lines create a nine squared grid on the photo so you can keep the main focus in a more proper place.  The rule of thirds also applies to the content in the image, instead of having two apples say, have three so one is in the middle.  All the photos follow the rule of thirds, all of them are on the lines or in one of the nine squares.
  • 21. Abstract   All abstract is, is a faint idea that can be perceived as anything. Most abstract things can mean different things to different people.  All of these photos below have been thought of differently.  The top one seen as the barrier between winter and summer or as a representation of the equinox.  The middle one as man against nature and how we will never win.  The last one almost an illusion, for your eyes want to focus on the nail but the drop of water is the focal point.
  • 22. Reflection
  • 23. Reflection   Reflection is exactly that, not only are you taking a picture of maybe a scenery or in these cases cars and a motorbike, but you are focusing in on the detail inside them.  All of these pictures are good examples. Most reflections are done in black and white but they can also be done nicely in colour.
  • 24. Noise
  • 25. Noise   Noise is the content within an image. If the image is to busy then it can be had to look at and can take away from the focal point.  The picture on the top left has a car amid a lot of vegetation. The plants really take away from the car but by blending the colour it creates a frame around the car to draw more attention to it  The photo on the bottom has the bush around it, but the three gravestones even it out so you look at the middle gravestone.
  • 27. Sharpening   Sharpening is increasing the accent on the lines of images.  The two images on the top have the detail brought out so that the water and water drops can be seen and the reflection is better and more clear.  The same is with the snow, the sharpening brought out a focal point in the image.
  • 29. Lighting   The lighting in a photo can cause it to be well detailed with nice shadows and highlights or it can wash the colour out and create hotspots.  The dandelion has a few hotspots in the thicker clumps of fluff but it suites the image.  The barbed wire has nice lighting form above to really define the shape and almost make a silhouette.  The trees have the light filtering from the leaves which makes the trunk darker and the further up the image you go the light brings out more leaves.
  • 31. Picture Perfect   These are some images that didn’t have to be touched in Photoshop or have very minimal alterations.  The less you have to play with an image the greater the photo.
  • 32. Simple
  • 33. Simple   In photography less is more and the simpler the photo in most cases the better.  The leaf the main focus is the amber coloured water drops, it isn't touched to much just sharpened to bring out the detail.  The fence with the leaves in it is also very simple, by slightly increasing the colour in the most frontward leaves, you create a center point without changing it to much and keeping it simple, but interesting
  • 35. Texture   Texture is used to create a photo that you can almost feel. Texture photos tend to be in black and white to keep detail/  All the black and white photos have no real focus point but they are fun to look at.  The one in colour can be a texture photo, but in colour it gets a little harder to get the same feeling.
  • 36. Brushes
  • 37. Brushes   You can use different types of brushes to reveal the layer underneath, some brushes can add an interesting element to the picture and make the photo.  On the bottom left the saxophone is green and is being revealed from a black background, the brush was in the shape of a leaf and creates a natural feel to the image.  On the top left the saxophone is black and white and has black streaks running through it, this gives the impression of blinds to make it edgy.
  • 38. Portraits
  • 39. Portraits   Theses are very precise shots that focus mainly on the triangle of the eyes and nose, so the face can stay in focus.  The dog is focused right between his eyes, this way his whole face is in focus, that way his legs and the ground are blurred slightly so they don’t take away from his face.  The statue however isn’t a headshot, it’s a full body shot but the whole body and face is clear. To only have shot the face doesn’t give the mood that the whole body provided.
  • 40. Expression
  • 41. Expression   To take a picture of an animal or a person it is best to have an expression on their face, not only is it more interesting but it can make or break the photo.  The dog is the same in all the photos but his expression varies from, really excited, to looking embarrassed and asking for help, to being relaxed and drowsy in the sun.  All the differences in expression change the whole mood of the photo, and make it more fun to look at.
