‘ This should CHANGE ’
Akanksha - DAIS Centre
Teacher : Ms. Ramola Rodrigues.
Step 1: FEEL
• What issue in the community affects us the most in our daily life ????????
• The issue the kids thought that affected them most everyday was ‘BULLYING’
• Does it affect most of the kids, creating an unhealthy atmosphere and the way
they develop?
• Do you feel its okay to Bully or be Bullied. How do you feel? How would the
other person feel?
• Are we victims of circumstances? YES
• Do we victimise others who are weaker than us too ? YES
• Is it an eternal circle of hurt egos and revenge? YES
Step 2: IMAGINE
• We discussed what can be done to make people in the community aware that
BULLYING does not create a safe atmosphere for them and their family.
• The kids decided to stage a PLAY in the community enacting how the older kids
bully the younger ones. Also how BULLYING does not help anybody and how
we can have a happy and safe atmosphere if people stop bullying others.
• They thought enacting daily incidents of the community would make the older
boys identify with the situations and could make them reflect on how they behave
with others. It had a better chance of striking a chord with them
Step 3: DO
• The kids got together and put down incidents of Bullying that happens regularly
in the community
• They then scripted the play and the actions. Again making sure the script and act
was exactly how the BULLY was.
• Then they practised their act along with the Ambani kids who volunteer so they
could put up a good show.
• The day we performed in the community, the kids went around getting an
audience to watch their performance.
• They managed to get a small crowd of kids as most people were not interested to
give their time. However once they started their performance, the older boys
joined in the audience too.
• Even though it was the first time the kids were doing a role play in their own
community, they were confident even when the older kids were watching them
and most probably knowing well they could be bullied for it later.
• The center kids have promised to make a conscious effort not to bully kids
younger to them. They admit its not going to be easy as it has become a way of
life for them. But they will surely try….
