Ensuring first-time quality has become a crucial aspect of the production process for manufacturers across all manufacturing industries. Processes are beginning to shift away from destructive techniques and sample testing conducted after preliminary production, and move toward continuous inline process monitoring throughout the entire manufacturing process.
Manufacturers are increasingly engaging in automation. In fact, 76% of manufacturers plan to invest in automation in the next three years according to a survey by Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI). The truth, however, remains that the majority of today’s manufacturing tasks cannot be addressed with traditional industrial automation.
Nondestructive Evaluation: Using Breakthrough Technology to Ensure First-Time...EWI
Over the years, nondestructive evaluation (NDE) has played a crucial role in manufacturing, evolving from early nondestructive techniques like the oil and whiting method, magnetic particle testing, and radiographic testing (RT) to today’s advanced NDE technologies.

Aerospace Trends and New Technology DevelopmentsEWI
Following years of decreased defense revenues, the aerospace industry is poised for positive growth. Due to rising passenger traffic, accelerated equipment replacement cycles, decreasing crude oil prices, and an increase in defense spending, aerospace manufacturers are on pace for record production levels of next-generation aircraft.
Facing uneven demand and competition

Challenges in Heavy Manufacturing Part III: Fatigue PerformanceEWI
For fabricators of welded structures that are subjected to cyclic loading, fatigue life analysis is critical—a significant percentage of engineering failures are
due to fatigue.
2016: Fuel prices are unexpectedly low, large trucks are still in high demand, and electric and hybrid vehicles haven’t yet been fully adopted on a large scale. However, with 2025 CAFE standards looming on the horizon, auto manufacturers have a steep challenge ahead of them.
As standards for product quality and performance continue to increase, it is critical that manufacturers are able to ensure that products will perform to specifications.
Emerging Trends In Medical Device ManufacturingEWI
To continue a trajectory of steady growth, the global medical device industry must adapt to the dynamic changes disrupting the healthcare landscape. An aging population, a push for more personalized treatment, and the increasing availability of healthcare are some of the factors driving new markets and an expanding consumer base. In addition, regulatory scrutiny and federal initiatives like the medical device excise tax have levied extra pressure on R&D budgets.
Expectations for design-to-deliver times can be up to half of what they were just ten to fifteen years ago. As a result, manufacturers are forced to compress their design and development processes. This has accelerated the pace at which technology must advance to allow manufacturers to streamline their processes and meet these challenging expectations. Further, to meet consumer demand for ongoing and rapid innovation, companies are exploring alternative design processes, new development models, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Manufacturing is experiencing a significant and fundamental shift. Industries are not only adopting new, advanced materials, they are looking to each other for innovation.
The fast pace of technological advancement coupled with increasing consumer and regulatory demands is placing manufacturers under more pressure than ever to design and develop innovative products. Across every industry, companies are striving to make products that are lighter, stronger, energy efficient, and more reliable to stay competitive and meet the needs of an evolving market.
The future of manufacturing depends on a number of technological breakthroughs in
robotics, sensors and high-performance computing, to name a few. But nothing will
impact how things are made, and what they are capable of, more than the materials
manufacturers use to make those things.
Contrary to dictionary definition, there is no such thing as complete hermeticity. All materials are gas permeable to some degree. A quality hermetic seal keeps the internal environment safe from contamination by external moisture and gases for its designed lifespan. This lifespan can range from a few months for a candy bar wrapper to decades
for high-reliability military electronics.
AS OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION ADVANCES into challenging new environments, advanced technologies are required to minimize the potential for structural failures which pose safety and environmental risks. This guide summarizes the importance of materials engineering, welding technology development, structural integrity assessment, and qualification testing for the construction of safe and reliable infrastructure in these new frontiers.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
