Importance Of Reading Essay
Crafting an essay on the importance of reading might seem deceptively straightforward, but the
intricacies involved make it a more challenging task than one might anticipate. At its core, the
essay demands a delicate balance between conveying the inherent value of reading and
presenting a compelling argument to persuade readers of its significance. This task involves
navigating through a plethora of aspects, such as historical perspectives, cognitive benefits, and
societal impacts.
Addressing the historical perspective necessitates delving into the evolution of reading and its
role in shaping civilizations. This requires comprehensive research and a nuanced understanding
of how literature has been a constant companion in the human journey. Moreover, establishing
the cognitive benefits of reading demands an exploration into various scientific studies,
neuroscientific findings, and psychological analyses. Juggling between different sources and
ensuring a coherent narrative can be a daunting process.
Furthermore, the essay should extend beyond individual benefits and delve into how reading
contributes to societal development. Articulating these broader impacts involves weaving
together threads of information, ranging from literacy rates and educational advancements to
cultural enrichment and empathy development. The challenge lies not only in presenting these
points cohesively but also in emphasizing their interconnectedness to showcase the holistic
importance of reading.
Another hurdle emerges in maintaining a fresh perspective. Given the prevalence of discussions
on the importance of reading, avoiding clichГ©s and presenting an original viewpoint becomes
essential. This requires critical thinking and the ability to synthesize information in a way that
resonates with the reader, encouraging them to reflect on the topic from a new angle.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the importance of reading demands more than just assembling
facts and presenting arguments. It involves a delicate dance between historical, cognitive, and
societal dimensions while avoiding the pitfalls of clichГ©s. Achieving this balance requires a
deep understanding of the topic, critical thinking skills, and the ability to weave together diverse
strands of information seamlessly.
For those finding this task too daunting, professional assistance is available. Similar essays,

Functions Of Demand For Air Transport
Executive Summary
Intro
Methods
There are different methods to estimate the benefits. Such as, the possibility of
asking the passengers for their willingness to pay for these changes, by informing
them how these changes will benefit them. This could also be done by,
commutating with Airlines to find out how much they would be willing to pay for
enlargement of the airport (George, 2014). By setting a number, airlines would have
an estimate of what the passengers are willing to pay for the performs of this
project. Another option is to ask directly potential passengers and current (George,
2014). An indirect way to estimate this benefit is based on the provisions of the
demand for air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This interpretation responds to the assumption that marginal cost airlines do not vary
with increasing product that does not change the cost of each trip for airlines, despite
the expansion and time (George, 2014).
Data collection and Data Processing
The purpose of calculating the cost benefit analysis is to start making investment
decisions from 2011 and finished in 2031, despite the opening of the new track in
2014 (Broward County Florida , 2010). The value of investment from 2011 till 2014
is 477,338,836 million (Broward County Florida , 2010). The value of investments
expands in time to meet rising demand expected, which does not occur at once, but
gradually (Broward County Florida , 2010). Table 2 presents the concepts of the
investment cost, according to data provided by Broward County. Recurrent costs
include repairs and extra storage, central services, air navigation and other minor
costs, as well as maintenance of asphalt tracks every four years (at a cost of 300
million pesetas per track (Broward County Florida , 2010). Figure1 shows the costs
of operation and maintenance according to data released by Broward County
(Broward County Florida , 2010). This project will also contribute to increased local
economic, through the creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs (City of Fort
Lauderdale , 2012).
Terminal Renewal
The four airport terminals will be remodeled with larger lobbies, new restaurants and

Literary Analysis: The Verdict
People delegate important personal aspects of their lives to professionals, but not
without the risks of unethical behaviors. The word Professional makes one think of
wealth and power, which can result in corruption; winning by any means necessary.
In the movie The Verdict, Frank Galvin plays a lawyer who has reduced himself to
being a drunken ambulance chaser (Brown, Harris, Zanuck, amp; Lumet, 1982). He
is given an opportunity by his good friend, Mickey Morrisey, to morally redeem
himself; not only as a lawyer, but most importantly a person.

I can t do it; I can t take it. Cause if I take the money I m lost. I ll just be a rich

He was compelled to make their wrong right and did so by taking the case to trial.
He viewed this as a way to turn his life and career around by doing what was right,
but he discovers quickly that Ed Concannon was always one step ahead and through
many corrosive acts almost derails Frank s case.
The Prince of Darkness Ed Concannon is a distinguished and deceitful lawyer
defending the hospital and doctors Towler and Marks. There would be no one to
stand in his way of another victory; he pays off witnesses and hired Laura Fischer,
who sought out Frank romantically to get insight into his strategies. Laura fell hard
for Frank and her deceitful actions became more than she could handle. She let Ed
Concannon know and he said to her:
I m going to tell you something that I learned when I was your age. I had prepared a
case and old man White asked me, How did you do? I said, I did my best. He said,
You re not paid to do your best; you re paid to win! (Mamet, 1982, p. 59)
Ed Concannon viewed his client s as fomites that he could manipulate for profit
rather than do what is right. His approach to law was unethical both morally and
professionally, but the most contentious view of Concannon s ethical behavior was
his callous views of justice.

Corruption In The Oedipus Complex
Cormac McCarthy s novel exemplifies the nature of power and corruption in a post
apocalyptic setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a
relationship between a man and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia.
Following the death of his wife, the man and his son embark on a journey through
this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they would be isolated from
cannibalism, corruption, and empowerment. These different acts can relate to
multiple readings of psychology and mythology. Readers are first captured by the
corruption of this dystopia immediately at the beginning of the novel. The author
addresses the manbelieving as if the month was October , stating that he has not kept
a calendar for years (McCarthy 1). By inferring that the month is October we can
assure that the man and boy have been living in this corrupt dystopia for an expanded
time. As they continue on this journey, images of a psychological comparison come
to mind. Dr. Sigmund Freuds, The Oedipus Complex, is a theory of psychosexual
stages of development to describe a boy s feelings of desire for his mother and
jealousy and anger towards his father. This Oedipus Complex directly correlates to
the boy s relationship to his father, specifically when they encountered another man:
this man was struck with lightning and was struggling to survive. Instead of helping,
the man decided to worry about their own survival and continue their journey to the

Before my fascination for the media world developed I like everyone else was
subconsciously a part of it. TV news, magazines I read, commercials I watched and
video games I played in my spare time, have all given me the urge to understand the
concepts involved in media communication. The media and the world it creates
around us is always there whether we are aware of it or not. Becoming a media
student was like learning the tricks of the trade, being let in on all these secrets and
I loved knowing why the media did things and how they accomplished them. By
studying media at degree level I feel I will be able to enhance my interest for the

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders And The Outsiders
In the 1950 s everything in America was great it was a very illustrious decade in
history. We stood, summit of the world as the Prime of Britain commented. The
US had the strongest, uttermost powerful military at the time. Our economy was
booming. Cars, food, and house were more available than ever. Equally important,
was Tulsa, Oklahoma, dubbed as America s Most beautiful city. Tulsa s economy
was booming as well. the oil business was successful. After World War II America
was great. But like most things you can t judge a book by its cover. The education
in America was worse than ever. Some kids wouldn t receive proper discipline.
And with that, They didn t know right from wrong. Just like both gangs in The
Outsiders especially the Socs. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis is
having a hard life not only did his parents died 8 months before. He is a part of the
greasers, a gang of poor, middle to lower class teens who live in the slums. Still,
that doesn t matter because they are family. On the other hand, and side of town
are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get everything in their heart s
desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise, they are
criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are
and how the Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the
traits that are perceived by the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines
them, making barriers, some people break the barriers. Still, more people spend their
life inside the living by definitionof who they are, assigned by society. In The
Outsiders, the Soc, who are criminals, are made not born because of the family
situation and their lifestyle. One of the Socs is Bob. Like most Socs, he was dealt
the right cards so to say, in life. He was, ....a good guy....he was a real person too,
(Hinton 116). That meaning, he had everything that he needed. Supporting parents, a
house, and a legitimate future in their life ahead. All of a sudden, his life change. His
mother had a nervous breakdown. Instantly, the parents spoiled Bob rotten. As Randy,
another Socs noticed Bob s change, he states, he started to criminalize, all because he

Costs Of Production And Their Short Run Influences
Costs of production and their short run influences
Total Cost
The total cost of production of Sony s new product is the addition of both fixed and
variable costs. Fixed costs are assets within a business that are not used up or sold
during the typical production course e.g. buildings and machinery. Variable costsare
costs that fluctuate in time with the production output or sales revenue of a company
such as Sony e.g. raw material and labour costs. Figure 1.1 shows how the total cost
is composed of both fixed and variable costs.
Figure 1.1 Total Cost of Diagram
The influence that total cost has on short run production cause variable costs to
increase or decrease mirroring the total costs that incur as total costs are equal to
variable costs. As production increases also, total costs will persist to increase as
well. This occurs due to the fact that an increase/decrease in variable costs is required
when raw materials, output and/or labour increases/decreases.
Average Cost
The average costs of production of Sony s new product is the total costs (the
addition of fixed and variable costs) divided by the output which is the quantity of
goods or services that are produced during the production run.
The influence that average cost has on short run production is that when the output
of a production run is small the average cost will be higher as the fixed costs are
spread across a small number of units of output. Therefore as the production

Specifically, this paper will address the following topics: the definition of a group,
the roles played within the group, a description of the group member personalities,
the intended focus of the group, how the group worked together as a team and the
process that was involved, how conflict was resolved, and how the group emerged as
a group at the end of the situation.
Definition of the Group
Within this conflict, the two groups that define the direction of the conflict are: the
twelve spies and the angry group of followers. Examining the group of twelve spies
which was established by God via Moses, their charge was to investigate the land of
Canaan that God was preparing to give to the children of Israel. Specifically, Moses
directed the spies to see what the land was like, to see if the people were weak or
strong, to identify the population size, to identify the quality of the land, and to
describe the state of the cities. Moses further encouraged his leadership team stating
be of good courage and bring back a sample of your work, i.e. bring some of the
fruit of the land as cited in Numbers chapter 13. Acknowledging the spies charge and
dependence upon one another, this group is a collection of individuals who are
interdependent given their instructions to collectively investigate the land of Canaan
(Johnson and Johnson, 2013, p. 6). Even more, Moses defined clear goals and
expectations for the group of spies. As reflected by
The Effect of Electronic Journals on Scholarly...
The Effect of Electronic Journals on Scholarly Communication In recent years,
scholarly communication has virtually exploded into the on line electronic world.
This has brought a number of demonstrable benefits to the scholarly communication
process as well as highlighting a number of inefficiencies and obstacles to the full
deployment of information technology. However, the explosion has also brought a
spate of credulous accounts concerning the transformative potential of information
technology. These accounts, though well intentioned, do not contribute to a
sociological understanding of information technology in general, or its effect on the
scholarly communication process more specifically. In order to develop our

In addition, there are a number of initiatives designed to reproduce classic and
modern texts by digital imaging or SGML [2] markup. [3] The EJS has
experienced similar growth. From sporadic access to the WWW server just over a
year ago when the journal was founded, we are now viewed by over 1500
individuals each month from 38 countries around the world. Most documents are
served to the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and Sweden. However
access by other countries is steadily increasing. [4] Curiously though, the EJS
remains virtually the only journal devoted to sociology on the internet. At the time
of this writing, the Yahoo index [5], generally considered the most comprehensive
index for the WWW, of Sociology Journals contains two listings. One is for the
Electronic Journal of Sociology and the other for a Hungarian journal entitled
Replika. In this paper, I will provide an overview of the issues surrounding the
emergence of electronic journal publication while attempting to relate them to our
experience at the Electronic Journal of Sociology. Some of these issues are
straightforward and include the direction in which e publication is moving, the
benefits of electronic publication, and the obstacles to its full deployment. These I
will deal with in the first two sections of the paper. However there are currents in the
emerging debates which are strongly reminiscent of the popular and semi academic

Analysis For Vitamin C
Analysis for Vitamin C
Introduction Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid C6H8O6, is important because
the body uses it in order to grow and repair tissues.1 Humans are unable synthesize
vitamin C, therefore it is essential to consume the recommended daily amount around
60 mg/day.2 The goals of this lab were to determine the amount of vitamin C in a
sample of apple juice. Also, another objective was to gain experience with redox
reactions and titrations. A titrationis a method of analysis that determines the precise
endpoint of a reaction and therefore the precise quantity of reactant in the titration
flask .3 Titrations are important because they provide accurate information on how to
find the unknown concentration of a solution. Consequently, it is crucial that titration
techniques are precise so the information is accurate. The information is calculated
using the chemical formula.
+I2 в†’+2 HI Ascorbic acidDehydro L ascorbic acid
Experimental
The first step in calculating the amount, in mg, of vitamin C in the unknown
sample was determining the amount of iodine needed to react with the solution
using titration. Once the volume of iodine needed to react was found, the next
step was to determine the molarity of the Iodine. In order to do this, the moles of
ascorbic acid was needed. It was found by multiplying the mass of ascorbic acid used
by its molar mass. The moles of ascorbic acid is the same as the moles of Iodine
because of the one to one mole

Gas Cars Vs Electric Cars Essay
Electric cars are becoming more and more a part of the world today. Society can
see them everywhere, from the streets to TV. Car companies like Nissan and
Chevy have their own line up of electric cars that perform well. Now one of the
most popular car companies, Tesla, can make the Lamborghini of electric cars. To
help lower emission levels and jumpstart the industry, the federal government
offers a $7,500 tax credit for buyers of pure electric vehicles (Schaal, 2015). Which
brings up some common questions; are all these changes in the car industry a good
change from the traditional gas engine and are electric cars truly better than Gas
powered vehicles making gas powered vehicles slowly become obsolete. Electric
cars barely have any maintenance needed compared to gas powered vehicles.

That is additional money out of pocket that nobody wants to pay for in the first
place, in contrast with electric cars never need a pesky oil change because electric
motors do not require oil to function properly. A few other items an electric motor
does not need that a gas powered engine does are: power steering fluid and coolant
for the engine. Engine and transmission repairs can cost up to thousands of dollars
but since the electric cars don t have either of those they never have to worry about
them again. Horn from the article Roadmap to the electric car economy says The
electric motor will also last much longer than its gasoline powered counterpart
because it contains only one moving part. Since, there is only one moving part to the
motor there is a smaller possibility of things to go wrong and need maintenance. This

because there are less costs needed to maintain the car in a working condition.

The Pros And Cons Of The WWII
Even though the United States emerged as a clear victor of World War I, many
Americans after the war felt that their involvement in the conflict had been a mistake
(Markus Schoof, The American Experience During World War II, slide 3). This
belief, however, did not deter the country from engaging in many other international
affairs in the future, most importantly the WWII and the Cold War. Right from the
Manifest Destiny, which led to expand its empire at home and abroad, to the World
War I, the country had come a long way from being somewhat a lonely land to a
global superpower of the 20th century. Its influence in the international arena grew
unprecedently after its commitment to the World War II, and like they say, the rest is
history. If the WWII was a resounding success to the American legacy, what followed,
the Cold War, put many implications on the American diplomatic relations with the
Soviet Unionand to the world. Although the rising Fascism in Europe and the
Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor drove the U.S. to enter the WWII, historians over
the years have laid equal blames on both nations for starting the Cold War. These two
events helped in shaping up many domestic and foreign policies for the U.S.
It is interesting how the U.S. decided to fight world war for the second time despite
many oppositions. As mentioned above, the U.S. collusion in the World War I
brought mixed reactions among the citizens about the wars in general. On the other
hand, the country was

Against Drinking Bottled Water
Have you ever been thirsty and wanted some water? You went to a store and bought
plastic bottled water, drank it and threw it away? But, did you know bottled water is
bought hundreds of thousands of times about every day? I am against drinking
bottled water because I think that it s hurting animals, costing 2000 times more than
tap water, and making global warming worse. Buying bottled watercan lead to huge
consequences and it will affect us desperately.
The first reason for why I am against bottled water is that bottled water is that it is
killing animals. Many sea animals/animals are dying because of these plastic bottles.
People just drink them and throw them away properly or they just throw it on the

Tap water is basically like free! Just find a drinking fountain, press a button and
there! You can only get bottled water by going to a store and buying it. For
example, many of the bottled water brands say that Our water has fresh taste and is
cheap. That s not true, it s 2,000 times more expensive, and it doesn t even taste good
anyways. Did you know that the plastic on the bottle costs more than the water inside
the bottle? This is like getting water, but you re paying more for it because of the
plastic on it.This is way more expensive, and tap water is way better and cheaper.
There really is no reason to buy bottled water, if you can get it way easier from
your home s sink then going to a store and purchasing a plastic bottle 2000 times
the price of tap water. Did you remember how I said that bottled water brands were
trying to convince you to buy their water? Most of their water is just filtered tap
water inside a plastic bottle! According to Annie Leonard, an American proponent,
Bottled water costs 2000 times more than tap water. Can you imagine paying 2000
times the price of anything else? How about a $10,000 sandwich? It isn t smart to
buy something more expensive when you can get it for about free. This is like
getting a sandwich but 2000 times the price of a normal sandwich. This is like
bottled water being 2000 times more expensive than tap

Introduction:
There has always been tension raised between maintaining a safe society and
observing by the constitutional rights of its citizens. The New York City aggressive
program of Stop and Frisk have been widely criticized and considered
unconstitutional. However, Stop and Frisk, per se is not unconstitutional unless
people are being stopped illegally. It s a crime prevention tool that allows police
officers to stop a person based on reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and to
conduct a frisk based on reasonable suspicion that the person is armed. Some argue
this policy was created to target minorities. Most of the people who have been
stopped and frisked under this program have been African American or Hispanic.
This concerns citizens and makes them oppose the policy because they believe its
racial profiling and guided by color. Stop and frisk is now one of the biggest
controversies in United States. It has become something that is affecting society in
both a positive and negative way.

Analysis Of Billy Budd
Herman Melville s Billy Budd, Sailor consistently plays with the tenets of literary
romanticism. The titular character, Billy Budd, is in fact romanticized, but only to
an extent. Though presented as exuding senses of virtue and perfection, Billy s
otherwise beautiful character is marred by actions of violence and blatant passivity.
However, at the end of the novel during his execution, Billy is ultimately portrayed
in an almost divine light, presented as a romantic martyr akin to Jesus Christ. From
this, Billy effectively leaves his corporeal form, transcending into a sort of legend
for sailors, peculiarly free of his previous vice. After looking at this strange
resolution, I believe that the first few paragraphs of this play present a... Show more

This sailor seems to be primarily defined by this clothing, which constitutes of his
gay silk handkerchief, big hoops of gold, and a Highland bonnet. The only slight
indication of character is in his face, which possesses a smile of barbaric good
humor; however, this actually more superficial, as the barbarism of his smile
indicates a lack of sophistication. This makes this smile just another part of his
presented appearance. The obsessive detail over the material elements of this sailor
s appearance represents a lack of actual substance in his character, making it seem as
if his job is only to stay handsome. In addition, the contrast between the regality of
his clothing and his common nature highlights the superiority of image over truth.
Furthermore, the reference to Ham also supports this sense of superficiality; in the
Old Testament, Ham s son Canaan was cursed by Noah, creating a type of
unadulterate blood. Though this holds a negative connotation, the physicalities of
the sailor, symmetric and above average height, seem to take the focus away from
the phrase. Once again, outward appearance triumphs over the intricacies of actual
character. Following the same black sailor, his beautiful appearance is supplemented
by the variety of followers he has; without question, they exalt him as a sort of god.
In looking at the following passage, the insubstantiality of legend, now also marked
by mindless worship, is underscored: [His shipmates] were
The Core Arguments Of Hershey Company
The core arguments of Hershey Company in this case are very clearly stated.
Senator Steve Hershey used their company s Trade Dress on multiple campaign
signs for multiple elections. In 2002, Mr. Hershey was running for commissioner
of Queen Anne s County in Maryland. He used a design for his campaign that
looked very similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper. The background was
brown, the lettering was white, and the font was bolded in all capital letters. In
2010, Steve Hershey used a design that looked even more similar to a Hershey s
chocolate bar wrapper than the one he had used previously. This campaign sign
had a brown background, white bolded font, all capital letters, and included a white
border. In 2014, Steve Hershey used a campaign logo with a two toned brown
Maryland flag background, his last name in all capital bolded letters, similar font,
and underneath read, state senate. Despite having the same name, Steve Hershey is
not affiliated with The Hershey Company in any way. The Hershey Company
believed that Steve Hershey s use of their Trade Dress could cause confusion
amongst the general public. When the Hershey Company contacted Steve Hershey
for the first time in 2002, they wrote him a letter asking him to stop using the
Hershey s Trade Dress. In 2010, The Hershey Company contacted Mr. Hershey again
and urged him to stop using their Trade Dress, but they allowed him to use those
campaign signs for the primary election only. The Hershey Company and Mr.

New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native
American, and African descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives
of Louisiana. Many creoles were free and their ancestors often had the same rights
as white people. They often received formal education and owned property and
slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as opposed to the Protestant

On their days off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees,

which restricted slaves congregation to an area called Congo Square. On Sunday

Augustus Reign Essay
Augustus, during his reign as emperor proved effective in ruling through the ideas he
implemented to solidify his country. Tacitus stated nullo adversante which translates
into English Wholly unopposed (http://janusquirinus.org/Quotes/QuotesHome.html)
this identifies the effectiveness of his reign and the strength he had politically over
Rome. Important actions such as the creation of religious and moral reforms, the
constitutional agreement and the implementation of the building programme all
succeeded in creating stability within the Roman Empire.
The religious and moral reforms that Augustus established used ideas such as making

To reassure Roman Citizens that prosperity was evident Augustus set about
reconstructing the city of Rome. Coins from the period (http:/

health of the republic which was an essential part in reinforcing the feelings of
stability that the Augustus wanted his people to encompass. The use of propaganda
was also in an attempt to bolster his power. The reconstruction of the city involved
creating essential services such as roads and aqueducts and also glorified Augustus
and set in stone his achievements.
The constitutional environment that Augustus created was made slowly overtime to
ensure that the Roman people were not shocked by any major changes. Within the
new constitution agreement was the variation on traditional parts that Rome had
previously been identified with. He refined and downgraded the role of the Senate,
yet did not abolish it completely in order to keep the Romans contented. The
constitutional environment was another effective action taken by Augustus as it
created power solely for the leader of Rome, which was himself and meant that no
one could challenge him for his position, it also sought to give legitimacy to

Greek Values In The Odyssey
Ryan Hartman
Ms. Dixon
Freshman English 6
3 March 2015 The Cunning Way
Greek values, originating in Ancient Greece, were widely celebrated by the Greeks.
These values were commonly used and recognized in century old myths. In some
myths, heroes would often use values while performing heroic actions. These values
still alive today in many different ways and are present in American culture. They
appear in pop culture, everyday life, warfare and the business world. Although the
value s meaning might have shifted from when they originated, they are still true to
their original meanings. Mythological values used by the Ancient Greeks have lived

guile to his advantage when an extremely powerful drug lord threatens to kill him
and his family. The drug lord s name is Gustavo Fring. Gustavo is in charge of a
successful fast food chain that serves as a front for his meth business. He also
makes weekly visits to his old boss, Hector Salamanca. Because Walt knows this,
he goes to Hector Salamanca and they devise a plan. Because of their mutual
hatred toward Gustavo Fring, they devise a plan to kill him. He plants a bomb
underneath Hector s wheelchair and detonates it when Gustavo enters the room.
After this, Walt and his family are safe and no longer worry about their lives on a

The means of information provision are quite different which can be summarized in
one word: mass media. The media is the whole body of communications that reach
large numbers of the public via radio, television, movies, magazines, newspapers and
the World Wide Web. All of them, alongside their informative essence, are aimed at

Analysis of Newspaper Headlines
A headline is the text at the top of a newspaper article, indicating the nature of the
article below it.
Headlines are usually written in bold and in a much larger size than the article text.
Front page headlines are often in upper case so that they can be easily read by the
passing potential customer. Headlines in other parts of the paper are more commonly
in sentence case though title case is often used in the USA.
Headlines are generally written by copy editors, but may also be written by the
writer, the page layout designer or a news

Fossil Fuel Power Station
A fossil fuel power station is a type of power station that burns fossil fuels such as
coal, natural gas or petroleum (oil) to produce electricity. Central station fossil fuel
power plants are designed on a large scale for continuous operation. In many
countries, such plants provide most of the electrical energy used.
Fossil fuel power stations have rotating machinery to convert the heat energy of
combustioninto mechanical energy, which then operates an electrical generator. The
prime mover may be a steam turbine, a gas turbine or, in small plants, a reciprocating
internal combustionengine. All plants use the energy extracted from expanding gas
steam or combustion gases. A very few MHD generators have been built which
directly convert the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unloading one of these trains takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.
Older unloaders may still use manually operated bottom dump rail cars and a shaker
attached to dump the coal. Generating stations adjacent to a mine may receive coal
by conveyor belt or massive diesel electric drive trucks.
A collier (cargo ship carrying coal) may hold 40,000 long tons of coal and takes
several days to unload. Some colliers carry their own conveying equipment to
unload their own bunkers; others depend on equipment at the plant. Colliers are
large, seaworthy, self powered ships. For transporting coal in calmer waters, such as
rivers and lakes, flat bottomed vessels called barges are often used. Barges are
usually unpowered and must be moved by tugboats or towboats.
For start up or auxiliary purposes, the plant may use fuel oil as well. Fuel oil can be
delivered to plants by pipeline, tanker, tank car or truck. Oil is stored in vertical
cylindrical steel tanks with capacities as high as 90,000 barrels (14,000 m3) worth.
The heavier no. 5 bunker and no. 6 fuels are typically steam heated before pumping
in cold climates.
Plants fueled by natural gas are usually built adjacent to gas transport pipelines or
have dedicated gas pipelines extended to them.

Reflective Summary And Interpreting AP Lit
The method by which I was taught to read literature effectively and discerningly
similar to the formulaic pattern played out in the introduction to chapter five in the
Brown and Yarborough text. The steps were to identify the setting, primary theme,
characters, common motifs, and illusions to outside works. From there I was left to
identify the authors intent. I was told that each work of literature was a puzzle with
a simple solution, and it was the readers duty to find it. I was fortunate enough to
take AP Lit my junior year and, in doing so, learned how to properly read and
interpret text. Often enough, I would find myself identifying subtextual themes
before noting the truth of the text itself. My largest downfall as a reader was falling
The Importance Of Bullying In High School
Bill Gates once said, Be nice to nerds. Chances are you ll end up working for one. I
wish that I had heard this quote before I went to high school. I spent the first part
of my education needing some inspiration similar to this. To explain, I was bullied
in Elementary School. From Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, I was teased because I
was too smart. There were several times that I would hide on the back of the bus
crying after a full day of insults. There was one boy at my school that was the worst.
His name was Chaska Lacey. Chaska loved making new insults and nicknames
every day to insult my intelligence. And it wasn t always at school either. Once I
was jogging through the town of Waverly in order to stay in shape for basketball
season. I was running at a decently consistent pace before I passed Chaska and his
younger brother, Jolon. I kept on running because I didn t want to talk to him. He
started following and shouting abuse at me. He said things such as, Hey, Booky. I
didn t know that you could do anything except read. Look at those legs. I didn t
think that running was even possible for someone that spent that much time doing
homework. Can you teach me to read, please? I eventually out ran him, however it
wasn t before his words made me feel that people didn t know who I was. People only
saw that I was a pair of glasses stuck in a book. I know that what he told me was not
incredibly rude, but it still hurt me. I wanted for someone to realize that I was much

Relevance Of Mythology And Mythology
Mythology is a term widely used for the study of myths, the stories, the beliefs, the
understanding of the world through certain aspects narrated in oral tales to teach
values and ethics to the society. However, one does not find myth in contemporary
times rather it is a subject of the past of which no one is a witness. These mythical
tales have been passed down through generations never actually knowing the origin of
its creation. Myth usually has connotations of falsehood, unreasonable, irrationality
which makes the stories and the past related to it a mere lie or fiction. But if myth is
fictitious, then how could it serve the purpose of educating the masses about moral
values and ethics? During the 20th century, many researchers started coming up with
their views on the rationality of mythological stories. The revised definition of myth
said that myth is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu
Being a student interested in the field of biology, one knows that studying life in the
past plays an important role in the history of organisms that lived on this earth.
Similarly, being Japanese, studying the past of how Japanese were plays an
important role in Japanese history. Despite all the general aspects of life that have
changed from the Heian period, the one idea that has definitely not changed is the
romantic relationships between a man and woman. Though the general concept is the
same, from reading The Tale of Genji, it is what was considered the ideal woman and
ideal man that were both surprising and thus worth discussing. Written around 978 by

However, as To no Chujo pointed out (Shikibu 21), women that are high rank, have
a lot of people that serve them and make them look better than they are so that a
man cannot really know what kind of personality she may have. Middle rank
women on the other hand, have less hidden about her, and so one can tell what
kind of woman she is. This is probably because middle rank women do not have as
much pressure to look good as high rank women have and because they are not
expected to be as great. Thus in this way they are not pampered as much and in a
sense show their true colors. From this it can be concluded that the ideal woman if
it were possible, would be someone that was high rank, but also had a good
personality that was not just made to seem good but her servants. For a woman to
have a good personality is definitely an understandable character, but what
constituted good personality and character? The Chief Equerry, an older man with
more experience in matters with women in comparison to To no Chujo and Genji,
explained that the woman s main duty is to look after her husband and the household
(Shikibu 23). Thus the ideal woman would be one who was educated and smart
enough to take care of the household including preparing a fresh set of clothes after
her husband returns from journey, and keeping the house tidy and clean. She should
not have to ask her husband for every little thing that needs to be done because that

Solution Focused Brief Therapy And Its Goals
This paper defines the Solution Focused Brief Therapy and its goals, strategies and
techniques. This approach focuses on individuals devising solution for problems
rather than solving problems. Solution building is a collaborative effort between
therapy and client. SFBT concentrates on the clients strengths and resources and
belief that the therapist is not the expert but rather client is the expert. SFBT was
developed by Steve De Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg and their team at the Brief family
TherapyCenter in Milwaukee doing the 1970 s. This approach is directed for
immediate relief from a problem using a range of techniques such as; the miracle
questions, pretherapy change, exception questions, summary feedback and scaling
questions. The desire of this approach is for the therapist and client to form a
partnership in order to create personal meaningful goal that will guide the therapy
process in a short period of time. Attention is mainly given to affirm what the client
is doing and what the client and working that will lead to a better future. The central
concept of SFBT is a movement from talking about problems to talking about and
creating solution. Therapy is kept simple and brief.

Describe the importance of respecting the skills and expertise of other practitioners
You should show respect and value the knowledge of other members of staff, as you
never know when you will need their assistance. This can build a good working
relationship as you show your respect and interest in them. The same will be returned
to you. A lot of the teachers at my schoolhave been there a long while so I value their
advice and sharing experience, it is good practice.
Some staff at my school are not only class teachers but also specialise in other
areas, speech and language, special needs etc. It is not only their professional
experience but some teachers have outside interests, ie art, this is useful as you
could ask for some creative activities or ideas to try with your own groups to assist
the children with learning. I also respect the
Border Security Policy Analysis
As the political landscape in the United States continues to include increasing levels
of immigration reform and border security rhetoric, an understanding of current
capabilities and operations becomes a vital component when forming an educated
opinion. Army National Guard soldiers and aircraft provide a crucial layer of border
security, employing the UH 72A Lakota helicopter equipped with technology
designed to assist law enforcement agencies in drug interdiction and undocumented
immigrant apprehension. Shortfalls in United States Customs and Border Protection
(CBP) capabilities opened the door for military involvement to stem the influx of
illegal immigrants, as well as slowing human and drug trafficking (Lawson, 2012).

typical Task Force Liberty flight crew includes two pilots, one crew chief, and one

maintaining communication with controlling agencies and higher headquarters, as

My Reflection On My Life
So there I sat in my seat, either looked outside the window, or stared at my watch,
watched the second hand running around and around, hoped that the moment that
I have waited so long for will actually become a reality. I lay in my bed the night
before we received the grade for our paper, stared at the ceiling feeling not only
excited but also nervous about how I had done on a paper that I worked so hard
on. I began talking out loud to myself I know I did very well on it, I had to, maybe

Plagiarism in College Work Essay example
Plagiarism takes various forms. A student may cheat doing something as extreme as
purchasing a paper, hiring someone to write a paper or turning in a paper freely

GHZ UNII band relaxes receiver dynamic range. Large bandwidth of the UWB signal
rces use of RF front end with low gain compared to narrow band systems. As a result,
baseband channel select filter must have very small input referred noise. Furthermore,
baseband filter requires high attenuation and a very accurate and steep roll off to
further limit interfering signal strength, which limits dynamic range of the
subsequent ADC.
Synthesizer implementation must limit spurious tones at the output of the
synthesizer, which can transform interferers into the wanted frequency band. The
remainder of this section deals with more detailed system specifications.
1. Sensitivity, Gain, NF: In MB OFDM UWB, an UWB receiver operating in the
first three bands (Mode 1 only) needs to have a noise figure (NF) better than 6.6
dB. However, for the UWB device operating in the first three band groups with
nine bands, the required system NF can be 9 db taking into account the coding
gain. A margin of 3 dB is added to set the NF specification for the receiver as 6 dB.
This margin is set after system level simulation taking into account the following
combined non idealities: 1) 5 degrees in phase and 1 dB in amplitude of
I/Q imbalance; 2) 5 bits of effective ADC quantization; 3) 9 dB of clipping in the
signal peak to average ratio (PAR); 4) a
Albert Einstein And The Atomic Bomb
In the afternoon of August 6, 1945, the city of Hiroshima no longer resembled the
bustling urban area it was just a few short hours before. At a quarter after eight in
the morning, an atomic bomb fell from the sky. A bomb small enough to carry on a
plane was powerful enough to destroy five square miles of city (ВЁManhattan Project
ВЁ par. 10). John Hersey writes in Hiroshima about what a priest saw just after the
bomb exploded two miles away from him. A priest saw clouds of smoke rising
from fires that started after the explosion (Hersey 18). Creating the atomic bomb
which caused so much destruction was a process which involved many people.
Leo Szilard, Albert Einstein, and Julius Oppenheimer were men whose work
brought the beginning to the project. Every good idea needs a kick to it,
something that stands out for people to notice and look deeper. That kick was
Albert Einstein, who was important to the science of atoms before the Manhattan
project began (ВЁMainwoodВЁ par.1). His knowledge of atoms were key to how
the atomic bomb works only up to a certain point before he couldn t do anything
else. Despite his area of study, Einstein was not an atomic scientist
(ВЁMainwoodВЁ par. 2). He was not involved with the Manhattan project at all, he
never worked a day with Szilard or Oppenheimer, their area of science was different
than his. The thing that he did most important for the Manhattan project was signing
a piece of paper prompting the need for atomic weapons to be used in
Medicare and Medicaide Essay
Medicare and Medicaid together are the single biggest contributor to [the United
States] long term [budget] deficit. This idea was expressed by President Obama
during his 2011 state of the Union Speech. After saying this, the president said that
health care costs need to be reduced, including these two services. Medicareand
Medicaidare beneficial to those who receive their services, and the criteria for
eligibility currently allow many to qualify for either program. This is most likely the
cause of the major deficit that the president spoke of. However, downsizing or
eliminating these programs to lessen the deficit will affect many people and their
ability to receive healthcare.
In 1965 President Johnson signed both Medicare and ... Show more content on

Yes Medicare is supposed to be an insurance program that helps the needy aging
population. I personally don t want to strip seniors of their essential benefits, but it
is affecting me and my future; with the inevitable raise of taxes, shrinking defense,
and squeezing of other domestic spending everything from the FBI to college aid
(Samuelson, 2011, para.1). Many seniors count on these services but we as a
nation need to make changes to help the future retirees. According to Samuelson,
Obama said we must win the future, but our massive federal debt will keep
growing because, without restraining spending on retirees, there s no path to a
balanced budget (Samuelson, 2011,para.2). This shows true in Medicaid too, The
social safety net [Medicaid] for the growing ranks of poor Americans would be
further strained (Samuelson,2011, para.2). It would also be helpful to screen
people better so they don t abuse this system. If Medicaid would verify assets they
can weed out the people who don t deserve these services. This will cut costs by
verifying better eligibility, which in turn will be less wasteful. This is all very
scary for the future, interest of our country. From 2012 to 2021... Social Security
would rise 27 percent and Medicare, 32 percent (Samuelson, 2011,sec.3) In my
opinion with the higher life expectancy of our nation we need to move the age for
Medicare benefits up higher to reflect the increase in life
Love And Love In Othello
C.H Herford defines love as a passion, kindling heart, brain, and sense alike in natural
and happy proportions...and which commonly occurs at first sight and once for all .
When one truly loves someone or something, he or she is attracted to their/its entirety
and not just one single attribute. However, in William Shakespeares play, Othello, the
passage from Act 1, ii, lines 129 170 exhibits a relationship, that raises doubts on
whether Othello and Desdemona s marriage is based on true love, or the attraction
towards singular materialistic qualities. Shakespeare s clever manipulation of
language makes it evident that Desdemona is in fact attracted to Othello s stories and
Othello to her compassion towards his misfortunes rather than each... Show more

By making it clear that she has the need to listen to all of Othello s stories, and the
representation of Othello s stories as inanimate and tangible objects make it
evident and easy to answer that Othello s materialistic qualities play a major part in
the wooing of Desdemona, without which, they might not have fallen in love.
Othello even states that she [Desdemona] loved me for the dangers I had passed
and I loved her that she did pity them (I,iii,168 169) vindicating that their love for
each other was wholly based on singular characteristics, which served to be attractive
only for a short time, (as Othello ends up easily believing the lies about Desdemona
and forgets his love for her, ultimately taking her
Persuasive Essay On Garage Door Opener
Many homeowners use power strips with surge protectors to protect their
computers, televisions, and other home electronics. Buying low cost surge
protectors for expensive home technology is a wise investment. However, there is
one commonly overlooked item that s also made with vulnerable electronics: your
garage door opener. If the control board is damaged by a power surge, your garage
door opener may stop working altogether. Until you replace the control board, you
will have to manually open and close your garage door, which is an inconvenience.
On the other hand, the damage may cause your door to function erratically, which
makes it unsafe. How Power Surges Occur A lightning strike to the power lines local

Essay about A Feminist Analysis of Othello
A Feminist Analysis of Othello
In William Shakespeare s tragic play Othello there are numerous instances of obvious
sexism aimed at the three women in the drama Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca and
aimed at womankind generally. Let us delve into this subject in this paper.
In the essay Wit and Witchcraft: an Approach to OthelloRobert B. Heilman discusses
a scene which occurs late in the play and which is sexist:
When Othello summons Desdemona and dismisses Emilia, Leave procreants alone . .
.; / Cough or cry hem if anybody come. / Your mystery, your mystery! . . . (IV.2.28
30), he not only dismisses Emilia, accuses Desdemona of infidelity, and betrays his
own insane bitterness, but he converts the marriage into a ... Show more content on

Roderigo even calls Desdemona s action a revolt against paternal authority: Your
daughter, if you have not given her leave, / I say again, hath made a gross revolt [. .
.] . Upon verifying the absence of his daughter from the home, Brabantio exhorts all
fathers to trust not their daughters, indicating an alleged predisposition among young
ladies to rebel against authority:
O heaven! How got she out? O treason of the blood!
Fathers, from hence trust not your daughters minds
By what you see them act. (1.1)
Othello, the general and protagonist, seems initially to be totally lacking in sexism.
He loves Desdemona as an equal and accepts her with no preconditions:
As this that I have reach d: for know, Iago,
But that I love the gentle Desdemona,
I would not my unhoused free condition
Put into circumscription and confine
For the sea s worth. (1.2)
With the Turkish campaign against Cyprus in motion, the Duke of Venice scarcely
has time for Brabantio s protestations. And the First Senator encourages the newly
married general: Adieu, brave Moor, use Desdemona well. The word use conveys
the sexist belief of the husband s ownership of the wife. Later, when Roderigo
confesses to Iago his depression and suicidal feelings over the loss of Desdemona,
the ancient seeks to keep him alive by saying that Othello will soon grow tired of his
bride, stating
Discipline And Punish By Foucault
What does freedom really mean? The dictionary s definition of freedom is the
power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
Maybe that definition is not so explicit as it should be. Today there has been an up
and down argument whether society makes us less or more free. If you take the
time to really think about what society does and why they do what they do, then you
would be surprised at the final result. Society makes the people less free with their
devious ways of making people think what they should be doing and how everything
should be.
Society makes us less free because it takes our own individual power away. In,
Discipline and Punish , Michel Foucault, a famous French philosopher states, It is an
important mechanism, for it automatives and disindividualize power (Discipline and
Punish 4). This means that society doesn t let people have their own power which
shows dictatorship by taking away everyone s power away to make sure the
government stays powerful. Doctors also have put their own opinion on it too.
Restrictions on individual power tend to increase as societies become more populous
and integrated, in order to preserve the maximum possible power for all ( ... Show

cultivation of acosmic brotherliness, unless it is among strata who are

The Genetic Engineering of Human Food
Genetic Engineering refers to the direct manipulation of the genetic information of
living beings. The genes, embedded in the DNA, are the blueprints of life which
determine particular traits in an organism. With Biotechnology, Genetic Engineers are
able to replace these genes from one organism to another, resulting in completely new
combinations of traits which do not occur in nature. These Genetically Modified
Organisms are artificially enhanced to express desired characteristics that are useful
to us. While GM foods introduces plenty of new possibilities that is beneficial, such
as increased nutritional value, high crop yields, it also posses a wide range of risks
on human health, natural environment and can have serious unpredicted... Show more

While the allergenicity of known allergenic sources can be easily predicted, genetic
engineering involves inserting genes from other unknown sources, whose
allergenicity is unknown. In the process, genes from allergenic sources may get
transferred into non allergenic foods. Consumers consuming these allergenic genes
without having any prior knowledge of their presence in the foods, put themselves
in great danger of chronic allergic reaction. Two cases demonstrate that such
concerns have already been proved. In the 1990s, a line of GE soybeans was
engineered using certain proteins from Brazil nuts, which resulted the soybeans to
have enhanced nutritional content.() But a study in 1996 found that people with
common nut allergies were significantly affected when they consumed the GE
soybeans.() Likewise, a group of Australian scientists developed GE peas with a
protein found in green bean which protects the plants from beetles.() Prior to
market release, the peas were tested on mice. The research found out that the
altered protein produced allergic reactions in those mice, and alarmingly caused the
mice to become susceptible to other allergens as well.() While the Brazil nut
protein expressed in the GE soybeans was a known allergen, the green bean protein
expressed in the GE peas had no history of allergenicity. These two cases show
exactly how uncertain allergenicity GM foods might have on humans. As more and
more varieties of proteins are being
Citizen Kane Response
After watching the movie Citizen Kane I have some views on the movie both good
and bad. Although as you can see in the title I feel there was a dullness to it. A lot
of the lack luster comes from the ending which I will talk about to the best of my
ability without spoiling it. Citizen Kane takes place in 1941 after the death of
newspaper entrepreneur Charles Foster Kane. As he lays dying he manages to utter
the word rosebud before he dies, dropping a significant snow globe. There are many
characters in the movie but the main ones in the movie are the people being
interviewed such as: his second wife Susan Alexander Kane, a man who worked for
him Mr. Bernstein, his wife though she was not interview because she was dead

As someone who doesn t normally watch movies because they tend to not hold my
attention this movie held my attention all the way through half of it being that I
loved watching Kane s life unfold through flashbacks, how the people close to him
all had these different perspectives of him that all tied together in a way. The other
half was wanting to know what this rosebud was the question throughout the
movie that no one could answer, and that s where my issue lies you go through this
mans whole life to see that rosebud is something so small and minuscule something
that appears in the movie for maybe 5 minutes with not much story behind why it
held such importance which makes it feel like an after thought although it
obviously isn t because of how early it appears in the movie, so early that in fact
you have to think for a second to remember when it was even brought up. So not an
after thought but what feels like at least a lack of thought making the ending dull
or mundane. The movies seems to be less about rosebud than the unfolding of a
mans life which was fine and still held my attention but it s how they make rosebud
the center of it, but at the same time who would watch a story of a mans life with no
reason to care. The moral of this story would seem to be the often heard line money
can t buy you happiness but
A Interview With My Older Sister And Her Husband,
Jodie...
Background
For this interview I spoke with my older sister and her husband, Jodie and Shaun
Duke. Jodie is thirty five and Shaun is thirty eight years old. They met while helping
with a youth pioneer trek. They have been married for almost fourteen years and
have four children. The model of their marriage is egalitarian. Both work fulltime and
help with raising children and taking care of the home. I chose to talk with them
because I selfishly wanted an excuse to go to lunch with them.
Challenges
Before marriage some of the red flags that Jodie and Shaun said to look for are
being too dependent on a relationship. Each person really needs to be confident in
who they are before they enter the relationship. Another red flag would be
domineering personalities. It may appear that they always want to save you, but in
always stepping in, it starts to belittle the other person s confidence in their own
abilities. When asked what some of the challenges were when they first got married,
they mentioned one thing that was very difficult for them was that they did not start
out in their own place. For the first year of their marriage they lived in the basement
of Jodie s parents. They felt a lot of their transition in their marriage didn t occur
until they moved out. Another challenge they talked about was that before you are
married you think that you know a person so well, but through marriage you find that
there were a lot of things you didn t know. Things about a

Importance Of Reading Essay

  • 1. Importance Of Reading Essay Crafting an essay on the importance of reading might seem deceptively straightforward, but the intricacies involved make it a more challenging task than one might anticipate. At its core, the essay demands a delicate balance between conveying the inherent value of reading and presenting a compelling argument to persuade readers of its significance. This task involves navigating through a plethora of aspects, such as historical perspectives, cognitive benefits, and societal impacts. Addressing the historical perspective necessitates delving into the evolution of reading and its role in shaping civilizations. This requires comprehensive research and a nuanced understanding of how literature has been a constant companion in the human journey. Moreover, establishing the cognitive benefits of reading demands an exploration into various scientific studies, neuroscientific findings, and psychological analyses. Juggling between different sources and ensuring a coherent narrative can be a daunting process. Furthermore, the essay should extend beyond individual benefits and delve into how reading contributes to societal development. Articulating these broader impacts involves weaving together threads of information, ranging from literacy rates and educational advancements to cultural enrichment and empathy development. The challenge lies not only in presenting these points cohesively but also in emphasizing their interconnectedness to showcase the holistic importance of reading. Another hurdle emerges in maintaining a fresh perspective. Given the prevalence of discussions on the importance of reading, avoiding clichГ©s and presenting an original viewpoint becomes essential. This requires critical thinking and the ability to synthesize information in a way that resonates with the reader, encouraging them to reflect on the topic from a new angle. In conclusion, writing an essay on the importance of reading demands more than just assembling facts and presenting arguments. It involves a delicate dance between historical, cognitive, and societal dimensions while avoiding the pitfalls of clichГ©s. Achieving this balance requires a deep understanding of the topic, critical thinking skills, and the ability to weave together diverse strands of information seamlessly. For those finding this task too daunting, professional assistance is available. Similar essays, meticulously crafted and tailored to specific needs, can be ordered on HelpWriting.net. • 2. Functions Of Demand For Air Transport Executive Summary Intro Methods There are different methods to estimate the benefits. Such as, the possibility of asking the passengers for their willingness to pay for these changes, by informing them how these changes will benefit them. This could also be done by, commutating with Airlines to find out how much they would be willing to pay for enlargement of the airport (George, 2014). By setting a number, airlines would have an estimate of what the passengers are willing to pay for the performs of this project. Another option is to ask directly potential passengers and current (George, 2014). An indirect way to estimate this benefit is based on the provisions of the demand for air ... This interpretation responds to the assumption that marginal cost airlines do not vary with increasing product that does not change the cost of each trip for airlines, despite the expansion and time (George, 2014). Data collection and Data Processing The purpose of calculating the cost benefit analysis is to start making investment decisions from 2011 and finished in 2031, despite the opening of the new track in 2014 (Broward County Florida , 2010). The value of investment from 2011 till 2014 is 477,338,836 million (Broward County Florida , 2010). The value of investments expands in time to meet rising demand expected, which does not occur at once, but gradually (Broward County Florida , 2010). Table 2 presents the concepts of the investment cost, according to data provided by Broward County. Recurrent costs include repairs and extra storage, central services, air navigation and other minor costs, as well as maintenance of asphalt tracks every four years (at a cost of 300 million pesetas per track (Broward County Florida , 2010). Figure1 shows the costs of operation and maintenance according to data released by Broward County (Broward County Florida , 2010). The word Professional makes one think of wealth and power, which can result in corruption; winning by any means necessary. In the movie The Verdict, Frank Galvin plays a lawyer who has reduced himself to being a drunken ambulance chaser (Brown, Harris, Zanuck, amp; Lumet, 1982). The Prince of Darkness Ed Concannon is a distinguished and deceitful lawyer defending the hospital and doctors Towler and Marks. Laura fell hard for Frank and her deceitful actions became more than she could handle. She let Ed Concannon know and he said to her: I m going to tell you something that I learned when I was your age. I had prepared a case and old man White asked me, How did you do? I said, I did my best. He said, You re not paid to do your best; you re paid to win! • 4. Corruption In The Oedipus Complex Cormac McCarthy s novel exemplifies the nature of power and corruption in a post apocalyptic setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a relationship between a man and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia. Following the death of his wife, the man and his son embark on a journey through this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they would be isolated from cannibalism, corruption, and empowerment. These different acts can relate to multiple readings of psychology and mythology. Readers are first captured by the corruption of this dystopia immediately at the beginning of the novel. The author addresses the manbelieving as if the month was October , stating that he has not kept a calendar for years (McCarthy 1). By inferring that the month is October we can assure that the man and boy have been living in this corrupt dystopia for an expanded time. As they continue on this journey, images of a psychological comparison come to mind. Dr. Sigmund Freuds, The Oedipus Complex, is a theory of psychosexual stages of development to describe a boy s feelings of desire for his mother and jealousy and anger towards his father. This Oedipus Complex directly correlates to the boy s relationship to his father, specifically when they encountered another man: this man was struck with lightning and was struggling to survive. Instead of helping, the man decided to worry about their own survival and continue their journey to the

We stood, summit of the world as the Prime of Britain commented. The US had the strongest, uttermost powerful military at the time. Our economy was booming. Cars, food, and house were more available than ever. Equally important, was Tulsa, Oklahoma, dubbed as America s Most beautiful city. Tulsa s economy was booming as well. the oil business was successful. After World War II America was great. But like most things you can t judge a book by its cover. The education in America was worse than ever. Some kids wouldn t receive proper discipline. And with that, They didn t know right from wrong. Just like both gangs in The Outsiders especially the Socs. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis is having a hard life not only did his parents died 8 months before. He is a part of the greasers, a gang of poor, middle to lower class teens who live in the slums. Still, that doesn t matter because they are family. On the other hand, and side of town are the Socs a clan of rich stuck up children who get everything in their heart s desire. The Soc do crime to get attention or just because they can. Likewise, they are criminals that are made. Their family life/ situations make them into who they are and how the Socs act. At the same time, the relationships in the Socs influence the traits that are perceived by the Socs from the Greasers. Also, the society defines them, making barriers, some people break the barriers. Still, more people spend their life inside the living by definitionof who they are, assigned by society. In The Outsiders, the Soc, who are criminals, are made not born because of the family situation and their lifestyle. One of the Socs is Bob. • 7. Costs Of Production And Their Short Run Influences Costs of production and their short run influences Total Cost The total cost of production of Sony s new product is the addition of both fixed and variable costs. Fixed costs are assets within a business that are not used up or sold during the typical production course e.g. buildings and machinery. Variable costsare costs that fluctuate in time with the production output or sales revenue of a company such as Sony e.g. raw material and labour costs. Figure 1.1 shows how the total cost is composed of both fixed and variable costs. Figure 1.1 Total Cost of Diagram The influence that total cost has on short run production cause variable costs to increase or decrease mirroring the total costs that incur as total costs are equal to variable costs. As production increases also, total costs will persist to increase as well. This occurs due to the fact that an increase/decrease in variable costs is required when raw materials, output and/or labour increases/decreases. Average Cost The average costs of production of Sony s new product is the total costs (the addition of fixed and variable costs) divided by the output which is the quantity of goods or services that are produced during the production run. The influence that average cost has on short run production is that when the output of a production run is small the average cost will be higher as the fixed costs are spread across a small number of units of output. Therefore as the production

Definition of the Group Within this conflict, the two groups that define the direction of the conflict are: the twelve spies and the angry group of followers. Examining the group of twelve spies which was established by God via Moses, their charge was to investigate the land of Canaan that God was preparing to give to the children of Israel. Specifically, Moses directed the spies to see what the land was like, to see if the people were weak or strong, to identify the population size, to identify the quality of the land, and to describe the state of the cities. Moses further encouraged his leadership team stating be of good courage and bring back a sample of your work, i.e. bring some of the fruit of the land as cited in Numbers chapter 13. Analysis For Vitamin C Analysis for Vitamin C Introduction Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid C6H8O6, is important because the body uses it in order to grow and repair tissues.1 Humans are unable synthesize vitamin C, therefore it is essential to consume the recommended daily amount around 60 mg/day.2 The goals of this lab were to determine the amount of vitamin C in a sample of apple juice. Also, another objective was to gain experience with redox reactions and titrations. A titrationis a method of analysis that determines the precise endpoint of a reaction and therefore the precise quantity of reactant in the titration flask .3 Titrations are important because they provide accurate information on how to find the unknown concentration of a solution. Consequently, it is crucial that titration techniques are precise so the information is accurate. The information is calculated using the chemical formula. +I2 в†’+2 HI Ascorbic acidDehydro L ascorbic acid Experimental The first step in calculating the amount, in mg, of vitamin C in the unknown sample was determining the amount of iodine needed to react with the solution using titration. Once the volume of iodine needed to react was found, the next step was to determine the molarity of the Iodine. In order to do this, the moles of ascorbic acid was needed. It was found by multiplying the mass of ascorbic acid used by its molar mass. The moles of ascorbic acid is the same as the moles of Iodine because of the one to one mole

  • 13. The Pros And Cons Of The WWII Even though the United States emerged as a clear victor of World War I, many Americans after the war felt that their involvement in the conflict had been a mistake (Markus Schoof, The American Experience During World War II, slide 3). This belief, however, did not deter the country from engaging in many other international affairs in the future, most importantly the WWII and the Cold War. Right from the Manifest Destiny, which led to expand its empire at home and abroad, to the World War I, the country had come a long way from being somewhat a lonely land to a global superpower of the 20th century. Its influence in the international arena grew unprecedently after its commitment to the World War II, and like they say, the rest is history. If the WWII was a resounding success to the American legacy, what followed, the Cold War, put many implications on the American diplomatic relations with the Soviet Unionand to the world. Although the rising Fascism in Europe and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor drove the U.S. to enter the WWII, historians over the years have laid equal blames on both nations for starting the Cold War. These two events helped in shaping up many domestic and foreign policies for the U.S. It is interesting how the U.S. decided to fight world war for the second time despite many oppositions. As mentioned above, the U.S. collusion in the World War I brought mixed reactions among the citizens about the wars in general. On the other hand, the country was

  • 17. Analysis Of Billy Budd Herman Melville s Billy Budd, Sailor consistently plays with the tenets of literary romanticism. The titular character, Billy Budd, is in fact romanticized, but only to an extent. Though presented as exuding senses of virtue and perfection, Billy s otherwise beautiful character is marred by actions of violence and blatant passivity. However, at the end of the novel during his execution, Billy is ultimately portrayed in an almost divine light, presented as a romantic martyr akin to Jesus Christ. From this, Billy effectively leaves his corporeal form, transcending into a sort of legend for sailors, peculiarly free of his previous vice. This sailor seems to be primarily defined by this clothing, which constitutes of his gay silk handkerchief, big hoops of gold, and a Highland bonnet. The only slight indication of character is in his face, which possesses a smile of barbaric good humor; however, this actually more superficial, as the barbarism of his smile indicates a lack of sophistication. This makes this smile just another part of his presented appearance. The obsessive detail over the material elements of this sailor s appearance represents a lack of actual substance in his character, making it seem as if his job is only to stay handsome. In addition, the contrast between the regality of his clothing and his common nature highlights the superiority of image over truth. Furthermore, the reference to Ham also supports this sense of superficiality; in the Old Testament, Ham s son Canaan was cursed by Noah, creating a type of unadulterate blood. Though this holds a negative connotation, the physicalities of the sailor, symmetric and above average height, seem to take the focus away from the phrase. Once again, outward appearance triumphs over the intricacies of actual character. Following the same black sailor, his beautiful appearance is supplemented by the variety of followers he has; without question, they exalt him as a sort of god. In looking at the following passage, the insubstantiality of legend, now also marked by mindless worship, is underscored: [His shipmates] were

  • 25. Fossil Fuel Power Station A fossil fuel power station is a type of power station that burns fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas or petroleum (oil) to produce electricity. Central station fossil fuel power plants are designed on a large scale for continuous operation. In many countries, such plants provide most of the electrical energy used. Fossil fuel power stations have rotating machinery to convert the heat energy of combustioninto mechanical energy, which then operates an electrical generator. The prime mover may be a steam turbine, a gas turbine or, in small plants, a reciprocating internal combustionengine. All plants use the energy extracted from expanding gas steam or combustion gases. A very few MHD generators have been built which directly convert the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unloading one of these trains takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. Older unloaders may still use manually operated bottom dump rail cars and a shaker attached to dump the coal. Generating stations adjacent to a mine may receive coal by conveyor belt or massive diesel electric drive trucks. A collier (cargo ship carrying coal) may hold 40,000 long tons of coal and takes several days to unload. Some colliers carry their own conveying equipment to unload their own bunkers; others depend on equipment at the plant. Colliers are large, seaworthy, self powered ships. For transporting coal in calmer waters, such as rivers and lakes, flat bottomed vessels called barges are often used. Barges are usually unpowered and must be moved by tugboats or towboats. For start up or auxiliary purposes, the plant may use fuel oil as well. Fuel oil can be delivered to plants by pipeline, tanker, tank car or truck. Oil is stored in vertical cylindrical steel tanks with capacities as high as 90,000 barrels (14,000 m3) worth. The heavier no. 5 bunker and no. 6 fuels are typically steam heated before pumping in cold climates. Plants fueled by natural gas are usually built adjacent to gas transport pipelines or have dedicated gas pipelines extended to them. [edit]Fuel processing Coal is prepared for

Reflective Summary And Interpreting AP Lit The method by which I was taught to read literature effectively and discerningly similar to the formulaic pattern played out in the introduction to chapter five in the Brown and Yarborough text. The steps were to identify the setting, primary theme, characters, common motifs, and illusions to outside works. From there I was left to identify the authors intent. I was told that each work of literature was a puzzle with a simple solution, and it was the readers duty to find it. I was fortunate enough to take AP Lit my junior year and, in doing so, learned how to properly read and interpret text. Often enough, I would find myself identifying subtextual themes before noting the truth of the text itself. My largest downfall as a reader was falling

I spent the first part of my education needing some inspiration similar to this. To explain, I was bullied in Elementary School. From Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, I was teased because I was too smart. There were several times that I would hide on the back of the bus crying after a full day of insults. There was one boy at my school that was the worst. His name was Chaska Lacey. Chaska loved making new insults and nicknames every day to insult my intelligence. And it wasn t always at school either. Once I was jogging through the town of Waverly in order to stay in shape for basketball season. I was running at a decently consistent pace before I passed Chaska and his younger brother, Jolon. I kept on running because I didn t want to talk to him. He started following and shouting abuse at me. He said things such as, Hey, Booky. I didn t know that you could do anything except read. Look at those legs. I didn t think that running was even possible for someone that spent that much time doing homework. Can you teach me to read, please? I eventually out ran him, however it wasn t before his words made me feel that people didn t know who I was. People only saw that I was a pair of glasses stuck in a book. I know that what he told me was not incredibly rude, but it still hurt me. I wanted for someone to realize that I was much more

Relevance Of Mythology And Mythology Mythology is a term widely used for the study of myths, the stories, the beliefs, the understanding of the world through certain aspects narrated in oral tales to teach values and ethics to the society. However, one does not find myth in contemporary times rather it is a subject of the past of which no one is a witness. These mythical tales have been passed down through generations never actually knowing the origin of its creation. Myth usually has connotations of falsehood, unreasonable, irrationality which makes the stories and the past related to it a mere lie or fiction. But if myth is fictitious, then how could it serve the purpose of educating the masses about moral values and ethics? Despite all the general aspects of life that have changed from the Heian period, the one idea that has definitely not changed is the romantic relationships between a man and woman. Though the general concept is the same, from reading The Tale of Genji, it is what was considered the ideal woman and ideal man that were both surprising and thus worth discussing. However, as To no Chujo pointed out (Shikibu 21), women that are high rank, have a lot of people that serve them and make them look better than they are so that a man cannot really know what kind of personality she may have. Middle rank women on the other hand, have less hidden about her, and so one can tell what kind of woman she is. This is probably because middle rank women do not have as much pressure to look good as high rank women have and because they are not expected to be as great. Thus in this way they are not pampered as much and in a sense show their true colors. From this it can be concluded that the ideal woman if it were possible, would be someone that was high rank, but also had a good personality that was not just made to seem good but her servants. For a woman to have a good personality is definitely an understandable character, but what constituted good personality and character? The Chief Equerry, an older man with more experience in matters with women in comparison to To no Chujo and Genji, explained that the woman s main duty is to look after her husband and the household (Shikibu 23). Thus the ideal woman would be one who was educated and smart enough to take care of the household including preparing a fresh set of clothes after her husband returns from journey, and keeping the house tidy and clean. She should not have to ask her husband for every little thing that needs to be done because that would just waste

Large bandwidth of the UWB signal rces use of RF front end with low gain compared to narrow band systems. As a result, baseband channel select filter must have very small input referred noise. Furthermore, baseband filter requires high attenuation and a very accurate and steep roll off to further limit interfering signal strength, which limits dynamic range of the subsequent ADC. Synthesizer implementation must limit spurious tones at the output of the synthesizer, which can transform interferers into the wanted frequency band. The remainder of this section deals with more detailed system specifications. 1. Heilman discusses a scene which occurs late in the play and which is sexist: When Othello summons Desdemona and dismisses Emilia, Leave procreants alone . . .; / Cough or cry hem if anybody come. / Your mystery, your mystery! . . . (IV.2.28 30), he not only dismisses Emilia, accuses Desdemona of infidelity, and betrays his own insane bitterness, but he converts the marriage into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roderigo even calls Desdemona s action a revolt against paternal authority: Your daughter, if you have not given her leave, / I say again, hath made a gross revolt [. . .] . Upon verifying the absence of his daughter from the home, Brabantio exhorts all fathers to trust not their daughters, indicating an alleged predisposition among young ladies to rebel against authority: O heaven! How got she out? O treason of the blood! Fathers, from hence trust not your daughters minds By what you see them act. (1.1) Othello, the general and protagonist, seems initially to be totally lacking in sexism. He loves Desdemona as an equal and accepts her with no preconditions: As this that I have reach d: for know, Iago, But that I love the gentle Desdemona, I would not my unhoused free condition Put into circumscription and confine For the sea s worth. (1.2) With the Turkish campaign against Cyprus in motion, the Duke of Venice scarcely has time for Brabantio s protestations. And the First Senator encourages the newly married general: Adieu, brave Moor, use Desdemona well. The word use conveys the sexist belief of the husband s ownership of the wife. Later, when Roderigo confesses to Iago his depression and suicidal feelings over the loss of Desdemona,

  • 45. Discipline And Punish By Foucault What does freedom really mean? The dictionary s definition of freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Maybe that definition is not so explicit as it should be. Today there has been an up and down argument whether society makes us less or more free. If you take the time to really think about what society does and why they do what they do, then you would be surprised at the final result. Society makes the people less free with their devious ways of making people think what they should be doing and how everything should be. Society makes us less free because it takes our own individual power away. In, Discipline and Punish , Michel Foucault, a famous French philosopher states, It is an important mechanism, for it automatives and disindividualize power (Discipline and Punish 4). This means that society doesn t let people have their own power which shows dictatorship by taking away everyone s power away to make sure the government stays powerful. Doctors also have put their own opinion on it too. Restrictions on individual power tend to increase as societies become more populous and integrated, in order to preserve the maximum possible power for all ( ... In Iron Cage by Max Weber, he expresses, In the midst of a culture that is rationally organized for a vocational work a day life, there is hardly any room for the cultivation of acosmic brotherliness, unless it is among strata who are economically carefree (Iron Cage 1). Weber points out that we live in a all working society that stops us from being together as a community and even family. Society sets up the standard that we must all work in order to be somebody in life but that is just a false
  • 46. The Genetic Engineering of Human Food Genetic Engineering refers to the direct manipulation of the genetic information of living beings. The genes, embedded in the DNA, are the blueprints of life which determine particular traits in an organism. With Biotechnology, Genetic Engineers are able to replace these genes from one organism to another, resulting in completely new combinations of traits which do not occur in nature. These Genetically Modified Organisms are artificially enhanced to express desired characteristics that are useful to us. While GM foods introduces plenty of new possibilities that is beneficial, such as increased nutritional value, high crop yields, it also posses a wide range of risks on human health, natural environment and can have serious unpredicted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the allergenicity of known allergenic sources can be easily predicted, genetic engineering involves inserting genes from other unknown sources, whose allergenicity is unknown. In the process, genes from allergenic sources may get transferred into non allergenic foods. Consumers consuming these allergenic genes without having any prior knowledge of their presence in the foods, put themselves in great danger of chronic allergic reaction. Two cases demonstrate that such concerns have already been proved. In the 1990s, a line of GE soybeans was engineered using certain proteins from Brazil nuts, which resulted the soybeans to have enhanced nutritional content.() But a study in 1996 found that people with common nut allergies were significantly affected when they consumed the GE soybeans.() Likewise, a group of Australian scientists developed GE peas with a protein found in green bean which protects the plants from beetles.() Prior to market release, the peas were tested on mice. The research found out that the altered protein produced allergic reactions in those mice, and alarmingly caused the mice to become susceptible to other allergens as well.() While the Brazil nut protein expressed in the GE soybeans was a known allergen, the green bean protein expressed in the GE peas had no history of allergenicity. These two cases show exactly how uncertain allergenicity GM foods might have on humans. As more and more varieties of proteins are being
  • 47. Citizen Kane Response After watching the movie Citizen Kane I have some views on the movie both good and bad. Although as you can see in the title I feel there was a dullness to it. A lot of the lack luster comes from the ending which I will talk about to the best of my ability without spoiling it. Citizen Kane takes place in 1941 after the death of newspaper entrepreneur Charles Foster Kane. As he lays dying he manages to utter the word rosebud before he dies, dropping a significant snow globe. There are many characters in the movie but the main ones in the movie are the people being interviewed such as: his second wife Susan Alexander Kane, a man who worked for him Mr. Bernstein, his wife though she was not interview because she was dead Emily Kane,... As someone who doesn t normally watch movies because they tend to not hold my attention this movie held my attention all the way through half of it being that I loved watching Kane s life unfold through flashbacks, how the people close to him all had these different perspectives of him that all tied together in a way. The other half was wanting to know what this rosebud was the question throughout the movie that no one could answer, and that s where my issue lies you go through this mans whole life to see that rosebud is something so small and minuscule something that appears in the movie for maybe 5 minutes with not much story behind why it held such importance which makes it feel like an after thought although it obviously isn t because of how early it appears in the movie, so early that in fact you have to think for a second to remember when it was even brought up. So not an after thought but what feels like at least a lack of thought making the ending dull or mundane. The movies seems to be less about rosebud than the unfolding of a mans life which was fine and still held my attention but it s how they make rosebud the center of it, but at the same time who would watch a story of a mans life with no reason to care. The moral of this story would seem to be the often heard line money can t buy you happiness but
  • 48. A Interview With My Older Sister And Her Husband, Jodie... Background For this interview I spoke with my older sister and her husband, Jodie and Shaun Duke. Jodie is thirty five and Shaun is thirty eight years old. They met while helping with a youth pioneer trek. They have been married for almost fourteen years and have four children. The model of their marriage is egalitarian. Both work fulltime and help with raising children and taking care of the home. I chose to talk with them because I selfishly wanted an excuse to go to lunch with them. Challenges Before marriage some of the red flags that Jodie and Shaun said to look for are being too dependent on a relationship. Each person really needs to be confident in who they are before they enter the relationship. Another red flag would be domineering personalities. It may appear that they always want to save you, but in always stepping in, it starts to belittle the other person s confidence in their own abilities. When asked what some of the challenges were when they first got married, they mentioned one thing that was very difficult for them was that they did not start out in their own place. For the first year of their marriage they lived in the basement of Jodie s parents. They felt a lot of their transition in their marriage didn t occur until they moved out. Another challenge they talked about was that before you are married you think that you know a person so well, but through marriage you find that there were a lot of things you didn t know. Things about a
