The survey found that consultations significantly improved students' research skills, helped them identify new resources, and led them to adopt more sophisticated search techniques. It was found that academic staff recommendations were an important way for students to discover the consultation service. The conclusions call for sharing best practices among librarians and developing asynchronous learning materials to support more students.
Embedded librarianship Trends and TransformationsCourtney Mlinar
The document discusses strategies for librarians to embed themselves within organizations outside of the library. It suggests that librarians get involved in teams and initiatives outside the library, build relationships with key stakeholders, and provide value-added services to support the goals of the parent organization. Successfully embedding requires librarians to collaborate, learn about the needs of the organization, and position themselves as experts that can facilitate access to information.
Evolving and emerging scholarly communication services in libraries: public a...Claire Stewart
This document provides an overview of a guest lecture about evolving scholarly communication services in libraries and their role in supporting public access compliance and assessing research impact. It discusses challenges libraries face in helping researchers comply with public access policies from funders. It also explores metrics and indicators used to measure research impact, noting limitations, and how libraries can help address this complex issue by leveraging their expertise in managing scholarly information and data.
"From Reading Rooms to Research Commons" Sheila Corrall, DARTS4ARLGSW
The research environment is challenging libraries to raise their game by providing higher-end services in response to technological change and policy developments. Librarians are being urged to move from service-as-support to a partnership model involving “deep collaboration” across the whole knowledge lifecycle. But libraries are no longer the “go-to” place for researchers. Perceived as dispensers of goods, more geared to students and education, they struggle to gain take-up for research offerings. Innovative practitioners are using various strategies to reposition themselves as key players in the research arena, notably space-as-service strategies, which can bring researchers back to the physical library and improve visibility of virtual services.
In writing the literature review:
your purpose is to convey to your reader what knowledge and ideas have been established on a topic, and what their strengths and weaknesses are.
It is not just a descriptive list of the material available or a set of summaries."
Evidence based librarianship in practice: Using evidence in health sciences l...Lorie Kloda
The document outlines steps in the evidence-based practice process for health sciences librarians, including identifying barriers, formulating answerable questions, and locating and creating various types of evidence. It discusses barriers like time constraints and provides examples of evidence sources like published research, local usage data, and stakeholder feedback. The objectives are to help librarians understand evidence-based practice and apply it to their work by addressing real questions.
Evidence-based Practice for School LibrariesNassauSLS
This document discusses evidence-based practice for school libraries. It begins by focusing on concepts, research findings, and strategies related to evidence-based practice. The presenter discusses how the idea of evidence-based school librarianship began in 2001 with a paper on the topic. Research has shown positive impacts of school libraries on student learning outcomes when led by qualified teacher-librarians. Developing the capacity for evidence-based practice is recommended. Evidence-based practice involves using research evidence, practitioner observations, and student feedback to inform decision making and continuous improvement. Tools for gathering evidence locally include analyzing student work and bibliographies.
Are they being served? Reference Services Student Experience Project - Jenny ...CONUL Conference
The document discusses a student experience project conducted at a university library to understand student research behaviors and needs. The project used ethnographic and user experience research methods like customer journey mapping workshops, photo diaries, and student and academic interviews. Preliminary themes identified a gap between student and academic expectations of assignments. Academics expected more critical thinking and reading than students demonstrated. The interviews highlighted a need for coordinated information skills training between the library and colleges. Lessons learned included the value of conversations with academics but also the time required to analyze qualitative data.
This document discusses how academic librarians think about library instruction and their teaching role. It explores different conceptions of instruction found in the literature, such as teaching, training, and facilitation. It also examines how librarians view the role and value of instruction in their work. The document then discusses research on how teachers' beliefs shape their practice and an ecological model for understanding teaching librarians. The rest of the document provides examples and implications using an ecological model to frame brief profiles of five librarian participants in the author's research on conceptions of instruction.

This document provides an overview of Ann Gillespie's PhD research on how teacher librarians perceive and use evidence-based practice. The research aims to understand what constitutes evidence-based practice for teacher librarians and what types of evidence they use within this context. Previous studies on evidence-based practice in other fields are discussed, noting a shift from reliance on quantitative research to acknowledging qualitative sources. Interviews with teacher librarians in Australia will explore how they gather and use evidence from local sources to demonstrate their impact on students. The goal is to develop an evidence-based practice framework for teacher librarians based on this research.

Implementing Systematic Review Services at Academic Libraries- A door- Opener to IL Coloborations
1. Implementing Systematic Review Services at
Academic Libraries, a Door Opener to IL Collaborations
❖ Systematic reviews (SRs) are research synthesis with a high level
of evidence
❖ Originates from the field of medicine and evidence- based practice
❖ The SR methodology has recently started to gain popularity
outside the field of medicine (education, sociology, psychology,
management, LIS etc.)
❖ Three times more SRs indexed in SCOPUS 2017 compared to
2012… and counting
❖ A unique opportunity for academic libraries to add a new, profiled
research service and put the library “on the map”
Linda Östlundh, Library Director
2. The Librarians’ Role and Impact on Systematic Reviews
❖ Increases the search
precision and the result
quality
❖ Saves time
❖ Increases the quality of the
reporting method
❖ Reduces the risk of bias
Role Impact
❖ Consultant (methods, resources,
publications etc.)
❖ Co-researcher (protocol prep.,
systematic search and documentation,
document management, writing the
methodology part of the paper etc.)
❖Educator (tool and resource
demonstration and support for the
team)
3. SR- A Door Opener to Increased Information Literacy
Collaboration Opportunities
❖ Co –authoring and/or supporting SR:s gives unique”just in time”
opportunities to demonstrate and promote resources, tools,
services and librarians’ full professional knowledge
❖ Librarian’s being a part of the entire research process leads to
more embedded, visible librarians
❖ Faculty and researchers increase their understanding of
librarians’ full competences
❖ Librarian’s develop (re)search, subject and teamwork
skills and gain deeper understanding of patrons’ needs
Linda Östlundh, Library Director
