This document summarizes CO2 emissions data for Lewes, UK between 2005 and 2009. It shows that:
- 37% of Lewes' emissions came from industry and commercial sectors, 36% from domestic uses, and 27% from road transport.
- Lewes' per capita emissions were higher than the national and regional averages, at around 2.5 tonnes per person per year.
- Emissions from domestic uses decreased over time, in line with national trends of reduced gas consumption. Emissions from industry/commercial and road transport remained relatively stable.
Global temperatures rising above 1°C relative to pre-industrial levels would negatively impact food production, water availability, ecosystems, and increase extreme weather events. Stabilizing temperatures would require global emissions to peak by 2020 and be reduced substantially by 2050 according to various emissions pathways. Adaptation efforts would need to scale up overseas development aid to help vulnerable developing countries cope with the impacts of climate change.

The document summarizes an analysis by the International Energy Agency on fossil fuel subsidies. It finds that in 2010, worldwide subsidies for fossil fuel consumption totaled $409 billion, around $110 billion more than in 2009. It also finds that fossil fuel subsidies result in inefficient allocation of resources and market distortions. Cutting such subsidies could reduce global energy demand and carbon emissions growth, while freeing up funds for governments. However, most subsidies benefit the rich, as only 8% went to the poorest 20% of the population.
This document discusses resource and environmental limits to economic growth. It covers key concepts like living in an exponential world and peaks in resources like oil. It then focuses on environmental limits to growth from climate change, showing graphs of rising CO2 emissions over time and their relationship to increased temperatures. The document outlines different levels of temperature increase and their related impacts to highlight the severity of climate change risks if not adequately addressed.

Alan Pears - slides - price on carbon forum Aug 2011simon5678
This document discusses carbon pricing and actions individuals can take to reduce emissions. It summarizes a report on equitable emissions reductions and current emissions levels by country. It then provides three concise summaries of the key points:
1) Carbon pricing will have minimal direct impact on most individuals and the economy. Only large emitters need to directly comply, and most costs will be offset through tax reductions or passed on in minor ways.
2) Individual actions like energy efficiency upgrades and switching to renewable energy or electric vehicles can significantly reduce emissions cost-effectively.
3) Innovation will further reduce costs over time as low-carbon technologies improve. A carbon price provides an incentive to develop solutions without hugely impacting the economy.
