Imperialism in North America dates back to the Spanish-American War in the late 18th century. During World War I, the United States increasingly engaged in imperialism, such as invading Haiti in 1915 and ruling it until 1942 in order to prevent the spread of democracy and integrate the country into the global capitalist economy. While imperialism provided economic and military benefits to the US, it also faced criticism for discriminating against local cultures, causing political tensions, and potentially exploiting the peoples and resources of colonized territories.

GUEST ESSAY -- WHAT IS AMERICA TO THE WORLD -- by TONY CHAITKINRoch Steinbach
A PRIMER ON REAL AMERICAN IDENITY:
Treasure trove of core historical truths on the founding and development of the uniquely scientific & cultural American identity, sketched by one of our top tier historians, this essay is written in a simple & direct style for a new generation of audience. Chaitkin begins with the English -- then intrinsically American -- history of the industrial revolution and its core leadership in the person of Benjamin Franklin -- inventor, scientist, publisher, economist diplomat, and advances into the key intellectual alliances that underlay the American Project for liberating mankind -- finding a kind of early apotheosis in Nichols Biddle's management of the Second Bank of the United States (1816-1836), and realized in Lincoln's administration, and again under FDR and Kennedy. Chaitkin then demonstrates the spread of the American ideal to Germany, Russia, and the nations of South America.
This article is straightforward and without footnotes -- but fact-check Chaitkin's hard-nosed accuracy and this essential distillation of history, against some of the author's copiously documented works, such as the book "Treason in America" or his co-authored, "Unauthorized Biography of George Bush", as well as a prolific list of articles in Executive Intelligence Review magazine.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Imperialism
Imperialism is an action where a country (usually an empire or kingdom) extends its power by acquisition of
territories.North America has always been somewhat of an imperialist nation, always trying to enslave people and assimilate
them, etc… During world war one was a big time for imperialism in the states. Some of the imperialism was to stop the
spread of democracy, such as in haiti, the united states invaded haiti in july of 1915 and ruled haiti until 1942 “The American
government did not believe Haiti was ready for self-governing or democracy, according to Renda. In order to bring about political stability in
Haiti, the United States secured control and integrated the country into the international capitalist economy, while preventing Haiti from
practicing self-governance or democracy. While Haiti had been running their own government for many years before American intervention,
the U.S. government regarded Haiti as unfit for self-rule.”
3. Imperialism in North america dates all the way back to the spanish american war in
1790. Back then imperialisms main goal was economically motivated. As the
Economy was flourishing due to industrialization, america needed new ways to sell
their goods. Another motive was the military, we needed army bases and the last
motive was cultural influence, America felt the need to spread their culture because
they didn’t like the way other nations were doing it.
4. Pros
The cultural diffusion because america brought influence to other nations resulted in
an exchange of religion, ideas, language, a whole bunch of stuff.
5. Helped with industrialization
It helped advance infrastructure and machinery, helping already colonized countries
improve. It improved education systems by building new schools, it increased the
standard of living, it increased competition between markets which helped with trade
and economies globally.
6. Technology
Significant changes to the colonies in some areas, including transportation, infrastructure, roads, educational
institutions, etc.... even more so, there were innovations in science, information technology and healthcare.
7. Economic growth
Innovation is the main focus American Imperialism, which should allow the US to gain profit. This resulted in the making of
new products and services not only in the United States, in other countries too. This fueled economic growth.
8. Defense
American Imperialism helped give the world a level of defensive support, with over 650 military bases in 38 different
countries. This is by providing training, support, equipment and other resources.
9. Global modernization
America has always been a leader in many areas. They created the transistor, which allowed people to listen to live
broadcasts of current news and events. It was also in the US that modern robotics was first introduced, the exploration of
space. As a result, other nations were able to develop faster than what they would have been able to do without the US’s
assistance.
10. Cons - discrimination
Exchange of traditions and cultures is a good thing, unless forced. Unfortunately, there were countries that suffered this kind
of discrimination, they were forced to assimilate to foreign ideas and thoughts despite their protests. Many people from the
colonies were shipped and used without them knowing or agreeing, especially in Africa.
11. Political uproar
No country, person or organization wants to be controlled by another, there were a few discords amongst groups or nations
that co-existed before imperialism. America had cheap labor and easy access to natural resources from their colonies, there
was a gap of differentiation between nations. Even more so, foul play was becoming more obvious, and got worse while
imperialism continued.
12. Unnecessary ?
Many people believe that the US government should have spent their own money on developing resources to eliminate
dependence from other nations. So obviously, America spent this money on imported goods. With advancements in
technology, the US could have eliminated most imports by producing their own technology, then again it’s America and they
do what they want.
13. Expensive
American Imperialism is still present in several countries to this day. Military bases in many places around the world, from
Germany to Japan, it’ll require the US government to support all of these defensive forces.
14. Exploitation
Citizens of the colonies who did not accept the beliefs of the colonizers can be exploited and punished. Aside from that, the
colonies’ wealth and natural resources were exploited as well.
