- Small reservoirs and dugouts constructed across the White Volta River Basin to support agricultural production have significantly reduced river flows over time. An analysis of the impacts of these agricultural water management interventions found a sharp reduction in flows between 2017-2028 and beyond 2031. - Most (85%) of the over 200 small reservoirs studied in the basin are still in good condition. However, specific irrigation schemes like Tono and Vea are projected to face high unmet water demands between 2032-2040 if no action is taken. - More coordinated development of reservoirs is needed, with priority given to improving existing structures before constructing new ones. Long-term data and projections on the impacts of future agricultural water development are also needed
