2. Setting - We decided to start of with a ‘normal setting’, the class room, at the
beginning of the trailers and then end up on the pier to show the contrast
between the two settings.
•
Technical code -We plan on using low key lighting on the pier to highlight
the spookiness of the setting, the mis-en-scene will be really based on horror
with the spooky clown costumes, masks covering faces and make up being
very basic. We will also use longer frames at the beginning of the trailers and
end using very quick, fast paced clips towards the end.
KEY GENRE CONVENTIONS
3. Themes - Our trailer explores the supernatural in that the murderous clowns have risen from
death to take what they see as some kind of revenge upon a group of innocent and unsuspecting
teens who are attempting to do their homework. given that the teens are innocent it also explores
the binary opposition of innocence vs. evil.
•
Iconography - We have an isolated location, a final girl, a psychotic killer and a tragic event that
started the need to revenge.
•
Narrative Structure - We follow the classic Hollywood narrative structure as we start of with
everything being okay, then a tragic event occurs however, we then stray away from this and have
a tragic ending.
KEY GENRE CONVENTIONS
(CONTINUED)
4. In The Crazies we looked at inferred and explicit events, some events were
shown whereas some implied and hinted at.
•
This is the job of a trailer which is to keep the audience wanting, to fill the
gaps while giving them an idea of what the storyline is.
NARRATIVE
5. After looking at Halloween, we came to the conclusion that slasher films have a
lot of good aspects in them to scare our audience. This is also why we have
continued to use the final girl, a group of young teenagers and the use of a
traumatic background.
REPRESENTATION
6. The Woman in Black taught us that our posters, trailer and magazine covers
should all be focused on the main actors as it will attract the fans of previous
films. We wanted to ensure that we made sure all three of our products were
linked to establish a consistent platform from which we could promote our
film.
