2. Types of genre
For my research, I will be looking at:
Horror
Thriller
crime
3. What makes a Horror film?
Horror films are usually set in scary places. So an attic,
basement, graveyard or anywhere abandoned would do
perfect.
Low lighting gives dark effects and you may fear what is
in the dark rather than the dark its self.
Quick cut shots show the intensity of the film.
Colours associated with horrors are usually black for
darkness and nothing and red for more evil, anger or
blood themes.
Characters used may be vulnerable and weak or the
complete opposite who end up being the here(but not
turning the genre into a heroic film).
4. What makes a Thriller film?
A Thriller is used to ‘Thrill’ the audience usually by causing
suspense or excitement.
- A thriller may include twists or a plot to surprise the
viewer.
- Fast pace, fast music and editing techniques to create
suspense.
- Maybe dark lighting to add mystery.
5. A Film based around crime can be very simple compared to
others or they could include a plot that no-one would guess!
Crime would have to include police officers and bad guys who
get arrested. However a crime film doesn’t have to be from a
police perspective, it could be from a bad guy’s.
This may be set around police stations and central places.

6. For my choice of genre I’ll be
choosing Thriller.
I’ll use a fast pace in areas to
make it seem tense and to add
suspense.
