Next generation immersive consumer experiences presentation exploring augmented reality, virtual reality, altered reality, ARG , games, Mobile, projection, displays and more created by Joyce Schwarz author, speaker and media futuristfor Digital Hollywood Roundtable 5/5/11 at Ritz Carlton, joyceschwarz@gmail.com
Data is all around us, which is both a good and bad thing. Good, because we need it. Bad, because there’s simply too much to know where and how to start using it. This is one of several reasons that marketing teams are currently dysfunctional – I’ll reveal the rest in my talk – but it doesn’t have to be this way. Data-Driven Design (3D) is an actionable evidence-based framework that gives marketing teams (marketers, designers, & copywriters) accelerated access to the data they really need, coupled with a process for understanding how to use that data to make informed changes to the digital marketing experiences you’re creating today. In Oli’s talk, you’ll learn how to use The 3D Playbook to narrow four hundred sources of overwhelming data into the five you actually need.
CES 2016 Preview - Consumer Electronics Show TrendsDavid Berkowitz
What are the biggest trends brewing at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2016? No one knows because it hasn't happened yet. This leaked deck shows all the made-up info you'll ever need on wearables, internet of things, self-driving cars, drones, and more - plus a bonus edition of CES Bingo.
Good news for Oculus VR and Facebook! New research from Dubit shows kids not only love to use Oculus Rift but they want to see it used in schools and other areas outside of gaming.
This document is a summary of the findings from a series of focus groups conducted with children on their experiences and expectations for Oculus Rift and virtual reality.
I want to scrutinise the lens in which we view bodies of interactive work we typically associate with "videogames" and ask; "What is an interactive work of art that does not rely on competition, goals, rewards, winning or losing?"

Designing Successful Experiences for Bald ApesEva Willis
As we squint into a bright future, let’s first glance back at the user experience industry’s well-meaning, but mostly murky past. UX’s foundation is a sordid mix of lies, shams and idiocy: We never designed experiences and things like mobile have always been adjectives, no matter how many times we sold them as nouns. Now we’re hyperventilating about designing responsively across channels.
That might seem overwhelming, but it’s really just a more complex version of what we've always done: Help a bunch of bald apes do things.

All You Really Need to Know About Users You Learned in High SchoolEva Willis
User research? A fad!
Personas? Like I don't know enough real people and have to make some up.
Usability? Hey, if that shopping cart was good enough for Amazon, I'm sure it'll work just fine for us.
Not everything requires user testing, okay? We learned plenty long before we read any of those fancy books or paid for conferences just to have late-night drunken conversations about taxonomies. In this presentation, we will revisit key lessons we learned back in the halcyon days of our early lives and trace the shocking relevance of what we already know to the 21st century's biggest user experience challenges.

Game Design & the City @ Best Scene in TownKars Alfrink
This presentation was part of my contribution to the Best Scene in Town workshop on 14 April 2010 at the Waag Society. In it, I describe three scenarios for the development of games into the near future. I also briefly discuss some key concepts in the field of game design. The goal of this presentation was to inspire and to provoke, as well as provide some handholds for participants to use in their own subsequent work.
This presentation is a summary of ten themes that made an impact on me at SXSW Interactive in 2011.
The contents are broken into two sections:
1). Five themes relevant to marketers
2). Five themes that aren't so relevant but rock.

Metaverse Marketing: Games and Virtual Worlds in Product PromotionSebastian Küpers
Analysts tell us that the market for in-game and virtual world advertising is expected to grow by a factor of ten in the next five years. But this is still a new frontier and marketers are confused about what's required to reach audiences in these worlds and what they can expect from investing in this area. We'll look at the most common and the most creative approaches to reaching these cyber-citizens, highlight common pitfalls, and discuss how to measure the effectiveness of these programs.
This was my presentation during Future Learning Meetup in Warsaw. It covers emerging technologies like VR/AR/MR, AI, Data Analytics, BlockChain and their current and potential use in education. Many great examples and inspirations.
I've added slides with comments to make it understandable for people not attending the meeting.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Next Generation Immersive Consumer Experiences: Reel Versus Real
1. Roundtable on the Immersive Consumer Experience 5/5/11 moderated by Joyce Schwarz Digital Hollywood, Spring 2011 joyceschwarz@gmail.com
2. B) When we say IMMERSIVE what does that mean to you and your company? C) How can you measure Immersive experiences -- is it by engagement time or? D) What's the next hot trend in this area? Is it Augmented Reality? Is it NFC (Near Field Communications), is it POS Point of sale displays (like the one at Nordstrom's window in Seattle that hacked a Kinect and allowed light-writing by consumers? E) Do consumers really want immersive and interactivity or are some still satisfied to be mouse potatoes? F) What's your favorite Immersive Experience ever? G) How do Haptics and sensors change or enhance the consumer experience? H) What's next -- what will we see in this area for Christmas?
3. VIEW OF THE FUTURE OF THE OFFICE courtesy of Georgia Tech. [email_address] 5/11/11
5. I would add real versus “reel” here too – is it a synthetic experience or is it augmenting a real experience i.e. QR code for shopping versus LIGHT writing in Nordstrom window (see fugture slides forward. Joyce Schwarz 5/19/11
6. THIS CHART is fascinating – because looking at every day experiences in a new light– may actually change the way we interact (if we do) with people versus things or devices. Is it all telemetry or do humans matter in the future? [email_address]
7. What’s missing here is telemetry – device to device and wearables – seamless transparent technology [email_address] 5/18/11
8. Missing on this screen – wearables, embedded systems, public space sensors by 2015 -2020 [email_address]
9. Of course it’s not just hands – its mind/body – for training and for play – U R the game – not just you are the controller! TRON anyone? 5/18/11 [email_address]
10.
11.
12. Once again Hayes is basing immersive experience on devices and screens versus a seamless transparent no-tech visible or no-tech experience…playing basketball is immersive, watching it can be too but it is at a different level, you are not really the ball but if there is a camera on the ball and you are that camera? Joyceschwarz 5/18/11
13. It’s like the experience comes first and then the analysis and tech. Reminds me of teaching a robot to walk based on a human walking analysis or motion capture. But then again it’s much harder to teach a robot how to feel emotion IA versus AI joyceschwarz 5/18/11
14. “ I see apps like widgets – an intermediate stage – once there are embedded sensors/systems and AI in the device or even IA (intelligence assisted) the device gets smarter and auto-apps? Kind of like automatic transmission vs stick joycechwarz 5/11/11
15. Back in ’95 & ’96 experts said no one will buy cars on the ‘net and no one will buy shoes– u have to kick the tires and walk in the shoes– but then there came eBAY MOTORS and Zappos Touch is a key but YOU ARE THE AD –or your pal is and the store is where u are in mobile marketing! [email_address]
16. I tweeted the creator of this chart and asked him about holograms – he said he took them out…maybe he should ask ICT in Marina Del Rey how they are training US military for Iraq with a holodeck type system! Joyceschwarz 5/11/11
17. SINGULARITY – look it up on wikipedia too – not mentioned in this chart – really looking at when machines are smarter than human brain and can’t predict. 5/11/11 joyceschwarz
18. QR CODE as shown on CNN on March 20, 2011 for Japan disaster recovery aid
19. Actual tv pix of QR code during the Royal Wedding on CNN – screengrab is from Anderson Cooper’s blog thank you.
20. Missing here is a control group of REAL experiences – is it more “real” 3D flying through a field of simulated roses or is it more real holding a rose in your hand and looking into the rose that ‘takes’ you into the rose field or is it more real physically walking through a rose field. And of course all depends if you know what a rose is? [email_address] 5/19/11
21. What I find most exciting is AR in public spaces and for training and education ….put me in the driver’s seat or the pilot’s –throw me in the virtual pool and TEACH me how to swim! Joyceschwarz 5/11/11
22. Once again I think this slide is outdated – it’s 3 years old – the real comparison is real life vs reel (simulated) vs reel real (augmented reality) [email_address] 5/11/11
23. Screengrab of Immersion’s Haptic game Enzo’s Pinball from website thank you. Impossible to ‘feel’ it without touching that’s why they call it HAPTICS [email_address] 5/11/11
24. One interface for Immersion’s haptic version of Enzo’s pinball screengrab from website as noted below –no sound, no touch – leaves this pix FLAT [email_address] 5/11/11

32. Boston Cyber Arts festival used a version of augmented reality from the company called LAYARS to create these immersive faux experience. One is called TANK MAN see hollywood2020.net or call Joyce 310-822-3119 for explanation
33. This is an example of a holographic experience that I have used since 2003 to show interactivity and immersion into paper. It is amazingly similar to the first QR code Augmented reality business card that is now shown on Youtube etc.
34. FUTURE OR FUTURE SCHLOCK? PRIVACY DEAD? Back in 2003 I did a presentation called FUTURE SCHLOCK that is available on slideshare if u can’t find it email me at [email_address]
