1. I chose this first image because they are
posing as a band and obviously looking
down the camera lenses to grab the
attention of the reader. In addition, the
image of the two girls didn’t fit the page and
looked out of place as there was too much
white space to be filled. Therefore, i decided
to use two images of the girls separately to
represent one as a poster image and the
other as an action image.
I chose this image to use as the action image as she
is looking down at her guitar as if playing it, as well
as that, because her eye line is in a different
direction to the camera, it encourages the reader
to look where she is looking and as you will see on
my final double page, the reader will be persuaded
to look at the other image due to how i have set
out my page. By using two separate images i am
able to manipulate them more and fill that side of
the page by having the ability to put each image in
a different space instead of being stuck together.

Image Manipulation
For my double page spread, I have manipulated two images to place on the left hand
side of the page so that my writing can be placed on the right hand side. I have used
two images of the two girls as I wanted them in different poses to make the page
more interesting.
First I would cut around the image using the
Polygonal Lasso Tool to get a close cut to the image
and be able to zoom in so that there are no sharp
edges by using closer cropping lines to get a rounded
edge. In this photo, I am only cropping the girl on the
piano as I have another image for the girl with the
guitar and think that this image is best to capture the
reader’s attention as the instrument is big and her
looking right down the lenses will direct the reader’s
eye line to her.

2. I do the exact same for the other image and it is
easier as the photo only has one person in it and a
plain background which doesn’t make the cropping
confusing unlike the other image in which you
have to make sure you are cropping the right parts
due to having two other people and instruments in
the image.
By placing this image on the left hand side of the
page, I had to flip the image by going on Edit,
Transform, Flip Horizontally which then gave me
the chance to place the image in the right position.
I wanted the images on the left side because the
reader will use the Gutenberg Principle when
looking at the page, therefore I wanted the image
to capture the reader’s attention to carry on
reading the page.
After the first image was in place, I then added my
second image and put it on the left hand side of the
page. Because of the pose that the girl is presenting and
the side angle that the image is taken at, the image
doesn’t need flipping like the other as her stance is in
the perfect position for the page. However, due to the
long guitar, I’ve had to place the second image behind
the first so that you get to see both images fully. I did
this by simply dragging the layer of the second image
below the first image to set it behind.

As a result of the image manipulation, my final double page looks like this…
After that, I wanted to make sure the image was only
set to half of the double page, in which there was a
part of the piano hanging over onto the right page
which had to be cut off due to my images being set in a
good position. Therefore, I used the Polygonal Lasso
Tool to go around the part of the image I didn’t want
and pressed the delete key to cut it from the original
image. This made sure that my image was only on the
left side and that the set place is beneficial.
Finally, the second image, once set to the back,
had to be enlarged as there was too much white
space surrounding both of the images and they
didn’t complement each other as the image
behind looked too far away and you could hardly
see the guitar. I did this by clicking on the image
then on Edit, Transform and Scale. This then gave
me the chance to enlarge the image to the right
scale and set it behind the first so that there is less
white space.
