For my double page spread I carried on the colour scheme I had established on the front cover and contents page to make sure it was obvious they were all from the same magazine. I used the same purple in the masthead on the front cover for the background because I thought it was bright and would catch the attention of the reader. I put the masthead at the top of the page so that you can see it was the double page spread that went with the front cover. I used a font from DaFont.com for the article heading because the fonts on Photoshop aren’t very interesting and I wanted the article heading to stand out. Step-by-step guide
I used photos I had taken from the Kerrang Relentless Tour on my double page spread as well as my front cover. I edited these photos in Photoshop, changing the curves to make the colours really vivid and I also used different lighting effects to make the photos more eye catching. I chose to lay the photos out on the page like this because I wanted them to break up the writing. I wanted the balance between photos and text to be right so that people didn’t get bored because of big chunks of text. I chose photos that went well together, such as the three at the bottom. They had similar colours and they seemed to follow the sequence of the gig, from song to song. I chose to put the two at the top separately because they were totally different from the other photos and i wanted the bright colours of the photos to spread over both the pages not just one.
I put captions to each of the photos, for some of them I just gave short explanations such as ‘in the pit’ but on other I used lyrics from their songs or things they said during the set at the gig. I added one section of writing in and separated it into three columns because I felt this made it look less like a big chunk of text which could put the reader off reading it.
I added the last section of text to the right of the double page spread, I left this in one column because if I had separately it it would have made it look too cluttered. The interview with the band was made up but I did put in some quotes that the band had said while on stage at the gig. I thought this would make it more realistic and it helped me get an idea of their personalities. I picked out two pull quotes because the band has two lead singers and I thought it was important to have a quote from both of them. The quotes were also very different from each other so I thought it would show you two sides to the band. I chose to use different fonts for the pull quotes because I wanted them to stand out against the article.
