Digital image Encryption techniques play a very important role to prevent image from unauthorized access. There are many types of methods available that can do Image Encryption, and the majority of them are scrambling algorithms based on pixel shuffling, which cannot change the histogram of an image. Hence, their security performances are not good. The encryption method that combines the pixel exchanging and gray level changing can handles reach a good chaotic effect. In this paper we focus on an image encryption technique based on pixel wise shuffling with the help of skew tent map and text based pixel substitution. The PSNR, NPCR and CC obtained by our technique shows that the proposed technique gives better result than the existing techniques.

TEXT STEGANOGRAPHY USING LSB INSERTION METHOD ALONG WITH CHAOS THEORYIJCSEA Journal
The art of information hiding has been around nearly as long as the need for covert communication. Steganography, the concealing of information, arose early on as an extremely useful method for covert information transmission. Steganography is the art of hiding secret message within a larger image or message such that the hidden message or an image is undetectable; this is in contrast to cryptography, where the existence of the message itself is not disguised, but the content is obscure. The goal of a steganographic method is to minimize the visually apparent and statistical differences between the cover data and a steganogram while maximizing the size of the payload. Current digital image steganography presents the challenge of hiding message in a digital image in a way that is robust to image manipulation and attack. This paper explains about how a secret message can be hidden into an image using least significant bit insertion method along with chaos.

novel method is attempted in mosaic image steganography
using techniques such as Genetic algorithm, Key based
random permutation .The creation of a predefined database

selected image is used as the target image reduces the enforced
memory load results reduction in the space complexity .GA is
used to generate a mapping sequence for tile image hiding.
This has resulted in better clarity in the retrieved secret image
as well as reduction in computational complexity. The quality
of original cover image remains preserved in spite of the
embedded data image, thereby better security and robustness
is assured. The mosaic image is yielded by dividing the secret
image into fragments and embed these tile fragments into
the target image based on the mapping sequence by GA and
permuted the sequence again by KBRP with a key .The recovery
of the secret image is by using the same key and the mapping

Steganography is the art and science of covert communication. The secret information can be concealed in content such as image, audio, or video. This paper provides a novel image steganography technique to hide both image and key in color cover image using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Integer Wavelet Transform (IWT). There is no visual difference between the stego image and the cover image. The extracted image is also similar to the secret image. This is proved by the high PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), value for both stego and extracted secret image. The results are compared with the results of similar techniques and it is found that the proposed technique is simple and gives better PSNR values than others.

A Spatial Domain Image Steganography Technique Based on Matrix Embedding and ...CSCJournals
This paper presents an algorithm in spatial domain which gives less distortion to the cover image during embedding process. Minimizing embedding impact and maximizing embedding capacity are the key factors of any steganography algorithm. Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) is the familiar metric used in discriminating the distorted image (stego image) and cover image. Here matrix embedding technique is chosen to embed the secret image which is initially Huffman encoded. The Huffman encoded image is overlaid on the selected bits of all the channels of pixels of cover image through matrix embedding. As a result, the stego image is constructed with very less distortion when compared to the cover image ends up with higher PSNR value. A secret image which cannot be embedded in a normal LSB embedding technique can be overlaid in this proposed technique since the secret image is Huffman encoded. Experimental results for standard cover images, which obtained higher PSNR value during the operation is shown in this paper.

Highly secure scalable compression of encrypted imageseSAT Journals
Abstract A highly secure scalable compression method for stream cipher encrypted images is described in this journal. The input image first undergoes encryption and then shuffling. This shuffling in the image pixels enhances the security. For shuffling, Henon map is used. There are two layers for the scalable compression namely base layer and enhancement layer. Base layer bits are produced by coding a series of non-overlapping patches of uniformly down sampled version of encrypted image. In the enhancement layer pixels are selected by random permutation and then coded. From all the available pixel samples an iterative multi scale technique is used to reconstruct the image and finally performs decryption. The proposed method has high security. A NOVEL IMAGE STEGANOGRAPHY APPROACH USING MULTI-LAYERS DCT FEATURES BASED ON...ijma
Steganography is the science of hidden data in the cover image without any updating of the cover image.
The recent research of the steganography is significantly used to hide large amount of information within
an image and/or audio files. This paper proposed a new novel approach for hiding the data of secret image
using Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) features based on linear Support Vector Machine (SVM)
classifier. The DCT features are used to decrease the image redundant information. Moreover, DCT is
used to embed the secrete message based on the least significant bits of the RGB. Each bit in the cover
image is changed only to the extent that is not seen by the eyes of human. The SVM used as a classifier to
speed up the hiding process via the DCT features. The proposed method is implemented and the results
show significant improvements. In addition, the performance analysis is calculated based on the
parameters MSE, PSNR, NC, processing time, capacity, and robustness.
A NOVEL PERCEPTUAL IMAGE ENCRYPTION SCHEME USING GEOMETRIC OBJECTS BASED KERNELijcsit
The wide use of digital images and videos in various applications warrant serious attention to the security and privacy issues today. Several encryption techniques have been proposed in recent years as feasible solutions to the protection of digital images and videos. In many applications, such as pay-per-view videos,pay-TV and video on demand, one of the required features is that the quality of the video data be degraded only partially by some encryption technique and the encrypted data must still be partially perceptible. This feature referred to as ‘Perceptual encryption’ is the encryption algorithm that degrades the quality of media content according to security or quality requirements. In this work we propose a simple yet efficient technique for realizing perceptual encryption using geometric objects as kernels based on which the pixels are permuted. Confusion aspect that is required is realized by inserting the kernel on the image and thereby performing transposition of pixels based on the kernel formed out of geometric objects. The various parameters of geometric objects, number of objects and the position of the objects/kernel in the image are used as the key for encryption and later on for decryption. Further a choice of quality of the image required i.e., different levels of degradation is provided by adjusting the above parameters of the objects/kernel.From the results obtained it is evident that the proposed method which is more apt for perceptual encryption can also be used effectively for full image encryption with acceptable level of security.
Data Steganography for Optical Color Image CryptosystemsCSCJournals
In this paper, an optical color image cryptosystem with a data hiding scheme is proposed. In the proposed optical cryptosystem, a confidential color image is embedded into the host image of the same size. Then the stego-image is encrypted by using the double random phase encoding algorithm. The seeds to generate random phase data are hidden in the encrypted stego-image by a content-dependent and low distortion data embedding technique. The confidential image and secret data delivery is accomplished by hiding the image into the host image and embedding the data into the encrypted stego-image. Experimental results show that the proposed data steganographic cryptosystem provides large data hiding capacity and high reconstructed image quality.

Image Encryption Using Differential Evolution Approach in Frequency Domainsipij
This paper presents a new effective method for image encryption which employs magnitude and phase manipulation using Differential Evolution (DE) approach. The novelty of this work lies in deploying the concept of keyed discrete Fourier transform (DFT) followed by DE operations for encryption purpose. To this end, a secret key is shared between both encryption and decryption sides. Firstly two dimensional (2-D) keyed discrete Fourier transform is carried out on the original image to be encrypted. Secondly crossover is performed between two components of the encrypted image, which are selected based on Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) index generator. Similarly, keyed mutation is performed on the real parts of a certain components selected based on LFSR index generator. The LFSR index generator initializes it seed with the shared secret key to ensure the security of the resulting indices. The process shuffles the positions of image pixels. A new image encryption scheme based on the DE approach is developed which is composed with a simple diffusion mechanism. The deciphering process is an invertible process using the same key. The resulting encrypted image is found to be fully distorted, resulting in increasing the robustness of the proposed work. The simulation results validate the proposed image encryption scheme.

Encryption-Decryption RGB Color Image Using Matrix Multiplicationijcsit
An enhanced technique of color image encryption based on random matrix key encoding is proposed. To
encrypt the color image a separation into Red Green and Blue (R, G, B) channels will applied. Each
channel is encrypted using a technique called double random matrix key encoding then three new coding
image matrices are constructed. To obtain the reconstructed image that is the same as the original image
in the receipted side; simple extracted and decryption operations can be maintained. The results shown
that the proposed technique is powerful for color image encryption and decryption and a MATLAB and
simulations were used to get the results.
The proposed technique has high security features because each color component is separately treated
using its own double random matrix key which is generated randomly and make the process of hacking the
three keys very difficult.

DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF A NOVEL DIGITAL IMAGE ENCRYPTION SCHEMEIJNSA Journal
In this paper, a new image encryption scheme using a secret key of 144-bits is proposed. In the substitution process of the scheme, image is divided into blocks and subsequently into color components. Each color component is modified by performing bitwise operation which depends on secret key as well as a few most significant bits of its previous and next color component. Three rounds are taken to complete substitution process. To make cipher more robust, a feedback mechanism is also applied by modifying used secret key after encrypting each block. Further, resultant image is partitioned into several key based dynamic sub-images. Each sub-image passes through the scrambling process where pixels of sub-image are reshuffled within itself by using a generated magic square matrix. Five rounds are taken for scrambling process. The propose scheme is simple, fast and sensitive to the secret key. Due to high order of substitution and permutation, common attacks like linear and differential cryptanalysis are infeasible. The experimental results show that the proposed encryption technique is efficient and has high security features.

An optimized hybrid image security mechanism for authentication and secrecy of images by means of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in daubechies4 transform is illustrated in this paper. This mechanism provide solutions to the issues such as authentication, robustness, security and statistical attacks. The PSO technique is employed to select feature vectors to form the image hash and select high energy coefficients for partial encryption. The shuffling of bits , coefficients and blocks of an image is performed by interweaving technique. The Completeness of Signature (CoS) is used to recognize the image as authentic or unauthentic. The image quality distortion is computed with help of image quality index metric(IQIM) with respect to three factors namely loss of correlation, luminance distortion, and contrast distortion. The experimental results are computed with respect to CoS, IQIM, PSNR and correlation coefficient and presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed scheme.

Design and Implementation of Lifting Based Wavelet and Adaptive LSB Steganogr...Dr. Amarjeet Singh
Image steganography is an art of hiding images
secretly within another image. There are several ways of
performing image steganography; one among them is the
spatial approach. The most popular spatial domain approach
of image steganography is the Least Significant Bit (LSB)
method, which hides the secret image pixel information in the
LSB of the cover image pixel information. In this paper a
LSB based steganography approach is used to design
hardware architecture for the Image steganography. The
Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is used here to transform
the cover image into higher and lower wavelet coefficients
and use these coefficients in hiding the secret image. the
design also includes encryption of secret image data, to
provide a higher level of security to the secret image. The
steganography system involving the stegno module and a
decode module is designed here. The design was simulated,
synthesized and implemented on Artix -7 FPGA. The
operation hiding and retrieving images was successfully
verified through simulations.
Cloud computing is a powerful, flexible, cost
efficient platform for providing consumer IT services
over the Internet. However Cloud Computing has
various level of risk because most important
information is maintained and managed by third party
vendors, which means harder to maintain security for
user’s data .Steganography is one of the ways to provide
security for secret data by inserting in an image or
video. In this most of the algorithms are based on the
Least Significant Bit (LSB), but the hackers easily
detects it embeds directly. An Efficient and secure
method of embedding secret message-extracting
message into or from color image using Artificial
Neural Network will be proposed. The proposed
method will be tested, implemented and analyzed for
various color images of different sizes and different
sizes of secret messages. The performance of the
algorithm will be analyzed by calculating various
parameters like PSNR, MSE and the results are good
compared to existing algorithms.

Permutation of Pixels within the Shares of Visual Cryptography using KBRP for...IDES Editor
The security of authentication of internet based
co-banking services should not be susceptible to high risks.
The passwords are highly vulnerable to virus attacks due to
the lack of high end embedding of security methods. In order
for the passwords to be more secure, people are generally
compelled to select jumbled up character based passwords
which are not only less memorable but are also equally prone
to insecurity. Multiple use of distributed shares has been
studied to solve the problem of authentication by algorithms
based on thresholding of pixels in image processing and visual
cryptography concepts where the subset of shares is considered
for the recovery of the original image for authentication using
correlation function[1][2].The main disadvantage in the above
study is the plain storage of shares and also one of the shares
is being supplied to the customer, which will lead to the
possibility of misuse by a third party. This paper proposes a
technique for scrambling of pixels by key based random
permutation (KBRP) within the shares before the
authentication has been attempted. Total number of shares to
be created is dependent on the multiplicity of ownership of
the account. By this method the problem of uncertainty among
the customers with regard to security, storage, retrieval of
holding of half of the shares is minimized.
SELECTIVE ENCRYPTION OF IMAGE BY NUMBER MAZE TECHNIQUEijcisjournal
Due to enormous increase in the usage of computers and mobiles, today’s world is currently flooded with huge volumes of data. This paper is primarily focused on multimedia data and how it can be protected from unwanted attacks. Sharing of multimedia data is easy and very efficient, it has been a customary practice to share multimedia data but there is no proper encryption technique to encrypt multimedia data. Sharing of multimedia data over unprotected networks using DCT algorithm and then applying selective encryption-based algorithm has never been adequately studied. This paper introduces a new selective encryption-based security system which will transfer data with protection even in unauthenticated network. Selective encryption-based security system will also minimize time during encryption process which there by achieves efficiency. The data in the image is transmitted over a network is discriminated using DCT transform and then it will be selectively encrypted using Number Puzzle technique, and thus provides security from unauthorized access. This paper discusses about numeric puzzle-based encryption technique
and how it can achieve security and integrity for multimedia data over traditional encryption technique.

An improved color image encryption algorithm with pixel permutation and bit s...eSAT Journals
Abstract Today the transmission of multimedia data including image and video is growing in telecommunications. Security is one of the main issues in transferring such sensitive information. Powerful image encryption algorithm is the solution for this problem. This paper is an implementation of a color image encryption algorithm based on Rubik’s cube technique. The Rubik’s cube technique is used for pixel permutation and a bit substitution method based on DNA sequences are used to change the value of each pixel on the image. Then the time-stamp is appended with encrypted image, which can be used to identify the replay attack. For evaluating the performance of the algorithm a series of tests are performed. These tests include information entropy analysis, correlation analysis, analysis of NPCR and UACI values etc. Index Terms: Cryptography, encryption, decryption, timestamp, replay attack, plaintext, cipher-text, algorithm, chaos.
In this study, we present how digital steganography can be analyzed in computer forensic. Computer forensics is a scientific study of computers in a manner consistent with the principles of the rules of evidence and court rules of procedure.

Making model of dual axis solar tracking with Maximum Power Point Trackingijsrd.com
Now a days solar harvesting is more popular. As the popularity become higher the material quality and solar tracking methods are more improved. There are several factors affecting the solar system. Major influence on solar cell, intensity of source radiation and storage techniques The materials used in solar cell manufacturing limit the efficiency of solar cell. This makes it particularly difficult to make considerable improvements in the performance of the cell, and hence restricts the efficiency of the overall collection process. Therefore, the most attainable maximum power point tracking method of improving the performance of solar power collection is to increase the mean intensity of radiation received from the source used. The purposed of tracking system controls elevation and orientation angles of solar panels such that the panels always maintain perpendicular to the sunlight. The measured variables of our automatic system were compared with those of a fixed angle PV system. As a result of the experiment, the voltage generated by the proposed tracking system has an overall of about 28.11% more than the fixed angle PV system. There are three major approaches for maximizing power extraction in medium and large scale systems. They are sun tracking, maximum power point (MPP) tracking or both.

Reducing Silicon Real Estate and Switching Activity Using Low Power Test Patt...ijsrd.com
Power dissipation is a challenging problem for today's system-on-chip design and test. This paper presents a novel architecture which generates the test patterns with reduced switching activities; it has the advantage of low test power and low hardware overhead. The proposed LP-TPG (test pattern generator) structure consists of modified low power linear feedback shift register (LP-LFSR), m-bit counter, gray counter, NOR-gate structure and XOR-array. The seed generated from LP-LFSR is EXCLUSIVE-OR ed with the data generated from gray code generator. The XOR result of the sequence is single input changing (SIC) sequence, in turn reduces the switching activity and so power dissipation will be very less. The proposed architecture is simulated using Modelsim and synthesized using Xilinx ISE9.2.The Xilinx chip scope tool will be used to test the logic running on FPGA.
Defending Reactive Jammers in WSN using a Trigger Identification Service.ijsrd.com
In the last decade, the greatest threat to the wireless sensor network has been Reactive Jamming Attack because it is difficult to be disclosed and defend as well as due to its mass destruction to legitimate sensor communications. As discussed above about the Reactive Jammers Nodes, a new scheme to deactivate them efficiently is by identifying all trigger nodes, where transmissions invoke the jammer nodes, which has been proposed and developed. Due to this identification mechanism, many existing reactive jamming defending schemes can be benefited. This Trigger Identification can also work as an application layer .In this paper, on one side we provide the several optimization problems to provide complete trigger identification service framework for unreliable wireless sensor networks and on the other side we also provide an improved algorithm with regard to two sophisticated jamming models, in order to enhance its robustness for various network scenarios.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

I. INTRODUCTION
Due to some inherent feature of image like low cost and
high availability, usage of communication network has
increased and it becomes a reason for rapid growth of the
internet in the digital world today. In our society digital
images play a more significant role than the traditional texts
and it need serious protection of user’s privacy for all
applications. So the security of digital images has become
more important and attracted much attention. The security of
digital image can be achieved by digital image encryption
technique. Basically Image Encryption means that convert
the image into unreadable format so that third party cannot
interpret them. Many digital services require reliable
security in storage and transmission of digital images [1].
To prevent image from unauthorized access,
Encryption techniques of digital images play a very
important role .Since Digital images are exchanged over
various types of networks and a large part of this digital
information is either confidential or private. So Encryption
is the preferred technique for protecting the transmitting
information. There are various encryption systems to
encrypt and decrypt image data. But, it can be said that there
is no single encryption algorithm which satisfies the
different image types [2].
In general, most of the available traditional
encryption algorithms are used for text data. Although we
can use the traditional encryption algorithm to encrypt
images directly, this may not be a good idea for some
reasons. First, image data have their special features such as
high redundancy, and high correlation among pixels.
Second, they are usually huge in size that makes traditional
encryption methods difficult to apply and slow to process.
third, the decrypted text must be equal to the original text
but this requirement is not necessary for image data because
characteristic of human insight, a decrypted image
containing small distortion is usually acceptable .So the
algorithms that are good for textual data may not be suitable
for multimedia data, Even though triple data encryption
standard (T-DES) and international data encryption
algorithm (IDEA) can achieve high security, they may not
be suitable for multimedia applications Therefore, well
known encryption algorithms such as Data Encryption
Standard (DES), Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), and
International Data Encryption Standard (IDEA) were built
for textual data not for multimedia data [3-4].
Now, there are many types of methods available
that can do Image Encryption [5-8], and the majority of
them are scrambling algorithms based on pixel shuffling. In
2011 Zhang et al. proposed an image encryption method
based on total shuffling scheme [5]. This method is
characterized in that the secret code stream used in
encryption is not only associated with the key, but also
related to the plain image. Because the random number used
in the diffusion process is obtained by iterating the skew tent
map, and the number of iterations is determined by the
previous pixel value of cipher image which includes the
information of previous pixel value of plain image, the next
random number is indirectly related to the previous pixel
value of plain image. This plain image related encryption
method is strongly against chosen plaintext attacks [6].
However, the first secret code is not safe enough to resist the
chosen plaintext attack, which is pointed out and crypt
analyzed in [7].
In 2013, Eslami et al. suggested an improved
algorithm [8] over these shortcomings described in [7]. Two
major improvements, such as using previous cipher image
pixels to execute “add modulus and xor” operations instead
of plain image pixels, and enlarging the iteration times of
chaotic system in every round, make the image encryption
scheme proposed in [5] higher security against the chosen
plaintext attacks with slower encryption speed as a trade off.
Yong zhang [9] proposed a lookup table based encryption
improvement on the schemes proposed in [5, 8] to improve
the encryption speed.
Pixels shuffling based image encryption techniques
have one problem that it cannot change the histogram of an
image. Hence, their security performances are not good. The
encryption method that combines the pixel exchanging and
gray level changing can handles reach a good chaotic effect.
Our proposed method does this job. The latter chapters are
arranged as follows: In section 2 performance parameters
are briefly introduced. Section 3 describes our proposed
method based on the permutation and substitution. Section 4
presents some representative parameters to describe
encryption quality. Section 5 shows the result of our method
and the comparative performance analyses of our method
with [5, 8, 9] .Section 6 concludes the paper

II. PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS
The performance of the encryption technique is measured by
some of the basic parameters which are listed below: [10].
A. Visual Degradation (VD)
Visual degradation identifies the perceptual distortion of the
image data with respect to the plain image.
B. Compression Friendliness (CF)
Compression Friendliness measures no or very little impact
on data compression efficiency on the image. Some
encryption schemes impact data compressibility or introduce
additional data that is necessary for decryption.
C. Format Compliance (FC)
Format Compliance parameter is used to measures
compliance the encrypted bit stream with the compressor.
Standard decoder should be able to decode the encrypted bit
stream without decryption.
D. Encryption Ratio (ER)
This measures the amount of data to be encrypted.
Encryption ratio should be minimized so that the
computational complexity can be reduced.
E. Speed (S)
This parameter measures how fast the encryption and
decryption algorithms enough to meet real time
requirements.
F. Cryptographic Security (CS)
Cryptographic security is used to identify whether
encryption scheme is secure against different plaintext-
cipher text attack.
III. PROPOSED METHODOLOGY
Suppose X is the original 8-bit gray-level cover-image of
M×N pixels. It is denoted as:
{ | 1 ,1 , {0,1,...,255}} (1)X x i M j N xij ij
The proposed encryption scheme consists of two
procedures, i.e. permutation and substitution. The pixel
permutation procedure is shown as follows:
(1) Convert the 2-D 8-bit grayscale and of size M×N,
into 1-D which is denoted by
0 1 1{ , ,..., }MNX x x x using from top to bottom
and then from left to right scanning method.
(2) Iterate eq.2 to obtain a pseudo random sequence of
size M×N, denoted by 0 1 1{ , ,..., }MNR r r r .
/ [0, ]
( )
(1 )/(1 ), ( ,1]
x p x p
F x
x p x p
(2)
(3) Sort R in ascending order to get
0 1 1{ , ,..., }MNS s s s .
(4) According to the relationship of R and S, a
scrambling vector 0 1 1{ , ,..., }MNT t t t is
obtained such that ii ts r
, i = 0, 1, …, MN-1.
(5) Permute the plain image X with T to get
0 1 1{ , ,..., }MNY y y y such that ity x
, i = 0,
1, …, MN-1.
Then the substitution procedure is as follows:
(1) Convert the inserted text into binary form with the
help of its ASCII code. And then determine the
length of binary code .Let P is the n-bit binary text
represented as:
{ | 1 , {0,1}}i iP p i n p .
(2) Resize the P to same dimension as permuted image
Y by using following pseudo code:

( , ) mod(( ( )* ),255);

For i to M
For j to N
K i j P next fact

Initially next and fact is set to 1. when next is reached to size
of P (i.e. n) then again it’s values is set to 1.but this time it is
multiplied by new fact.
(3) Performs the bit wise operation X-OR operator to
generate the encrypted image of length M*N
pixels.

Finally we get the encrypted image Z and this image
is ready to transmit.
IV. EVALUATION METRICS
In this investigation, the set of criteria for comparing the
selected algorithms are: the MSE, PSNR, UAIC NPCR and
CC.
A. Mean square error (MSE)
MSE is one of the most frequently used quality
measurement technique followed by PSNR. The MSE [11]
can be defined as the measure of average of the squares of
the difference between the intensities of the Encrypted
image and the original image. It is popularly used because of
the mathematical tractability it offers. It is represented as:
1 2( ( , ) '( , ))
1 1
M N
MSE C i j C i j
MNi j
Where C (i, j) is the original image and C’ (i, j) is
the encrypted image. A large value for MSE means that the
image is of poor quality.
B. Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR)
The PSNR depicts the measure of reconstruction of the
encrypted image. This metric is used for discriminating
between the cover and encrypted image. The easy
computation is the advantage of this measure. It is
formulated as:
220 log 255 /PSNR MSE
A low value of PSNR shows that the constructed image
is of poor quality.

C. UAIC and NPCR
Attacker tries to find out a relationship between the plain
image and the cipher-image, with the help of studying how
differences in an input can affect the resultant difference at
the output in an attempt to derive the key. Attacker can
observes the change of the plain-image by trying to make a
slight change such as modifying one pixel of the encrypted
image. Two common measures are used to test the influence
of one pixel change on the whole encrypted image by the
proposed algorithm [12]:
Number of Pixel Change Rate (NPCR)
( , ),
100%
D i ji j
NPCR
W H
Unified Average Change Intensity(UACI)
1 ( , ) ( , )1 2 100%, 255
C i j C i j
UACI i jW H
C1 and C2: two ciphered images, whose
corresponding original images have only one-pixel
difference. C1 and C2 have the same size.
C1 (i, j) and C2 (i, j): grey-scale values of the
pixels at grid (i,j).
D(i, j): determined by C1(i, j) and C2(i, j), if C1(i, j) =
C2(i,j), then, D(i, j) = 1; otherwise, D(i, j) = 0.W and H:
columns and rows of the image.
D. The Correlation Coefficient
A useful measure to assess the encryption quality of any
image cryptosystem is the correlation coefficient between
pixels at the same indices in the plain and the cipher images
[11]. This metric can be calculated as follows:
cov ,x y
rxy
D x D y
Where x and y are the gray-scale values of two
pixels at the same indices in the plain and cipher images. In
numerical computations, the following discrete formulas can
be used:

We take the plain image Lena as an example to do
100 times of experiments, in each experiment randomly
generate the secret key, and then calculate the NPCR and
UACI and CC of produced cipher images. The average
value of NPCR, UACI and CC are tabulated in Table II.
From Table II, we can say that NPCR are better than that
obtained using the other considered methods. We can see
also from Tables II that the plain image is highly correlated
in horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions, while the
correlation coefficients of two adjacent pixels in proposed
methods are close to zero, which demonstrate the proposed
methods can well resist the statistical attacks. Fig 5 and Fig
6 shows the comparison graph of proposed method with
other considered method with respect to NPCR and CC
respectively.

VI. CONCLUSION
In this paper we proposed a image encryption technique
based on pixel wise shuffling with the help of skew tent map
and text based pixel substitution. We have designed our
image Encryption and Decryption System using MATLAB
7.8.0 to accomplish this research work. We have evaluated
our proposed image Encryption and Decryption System on
gray Scale image of 512*512. The experimental result
proved that Correlation between pixel values is significantly
decreased. The PSNR and NPCR obtained by our technique
shows that the proposed technique gives better result than
the existing techniques. We will future investigate in our
proposed algorithm also can be applying to color image.
