11 | IIBT 2016/2017 PROSPECTUS - Providing Pathways to Uni
Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and one of the country’s most popular student destinations. It has a
great climate, relaxed lifestyle, friendly locals, great shopping, and lots of job and accommodation choices.
There is lots to do in Perth, from trying out new restaurants and shopping, to sightseeing along the Perth coast.
Exploring Perth and Western Australia is a great way to meet new people and take a break from your studies.
Climate
Perth is the sunniest of all the Australian cities with an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day. Summers reach an
average temperature of 29C during the day - perfect to enjoy the beaches, rivers and parks that Perth has to offer.
The average in winter is 18C during the day and, in September, Perth comes alive with the beginning of spring when
all the colourful and beautiful wildflowers are in bloom.
Exploring the City
There is something for everyone in the City of Perth. You can picnic in the leafy gardens of Kings Park whilst enjoying
the amazing Perth city and river views. Or you can visit some of the city’s top attractions, like the museum, art gallery,
Perth Zoo or just take a walk along the Swan River.
The city has many groovy bars, restaurants, café’s, and a full calendar of festivals, concerts, and exhibitions. There
are lots of free activities to enjoy. Perth is famous for its great shopping – all the major international brands are here
along with quirky fashion shops for something unique.
	Fremantle
The historic port city of Fremantle is a 30 minute drive or train-ride from the Perth CBD and
is an exciting mix of bars, pubs, restaurants and music. The famous Fremantle Markets are
great for cheap food and presents made in WA you can send home to friends and family. You
can cycle to Fremantle on the many bike paths along the scenic Swan River or catch a bus –
	 it’s easy to get to.
	Rottnest Island
Getting to ‘Rotto’, as the locals call it, is easy. Just 19 kilometres off the coast, ferries depart
regularly from Fremantle, Perth’s Barrack Street Jetty and Hillarys Marina.
With no cars on the roads, the best way to get around is by bike. Take your own or hire
one from the ferry terminals or on the island, or you can hop on and off the free Bayseeker
Bus dropping you off at some of the more secluded of its 63 beaches and surf breaks. You
will meet the cutest mini marsupial, found only in Western Australia, the quokka.
Take a tour on land or sea to have a wildlife encounter with seals, ospreys and
whales, or take a historical and cultural tour that brings Rottnest’s colourful maritime,
convict, colonial and World War II heritage to life. There are cafes, restaurants
and takeaway food options. You can have a cheap weekend away with friends by
camping on the island, or you can book a villa or bungalow. Rotto is a great place to
take a break from your studies.
	Swan Valley
The Swan Valley is a 25 minute drive east of Perth City. It’s alive with vineyard wine
tastings ,cafes and restaurants in natural bushland, olive groves, a chocolate
factory, fresh produce stalls, wildlife, markets. It’s an easy day-trip with so much to
	see and do.
ABOUT PERTH
What to do and see in Perth
The South West
Just two and a half hours from Perth, you can experience the magic of towering forests,
natural caves, whale watching, fine wine, gourmet food and world-class surfing.
Margaret River is famous for its produce and Dunsborough for its surf beaches. There
are art trails, whale watching tours and many beautiful towns like Manjimup, Bunbury
and Albany that offer lots of interesting things to do on a weekend away.
The Coral Coast
This region starts at Cervantes, at the unique rock formations known as the Pinnacles,
and stretches as far north as Exmouth, home of the internationally renowned
Ningaloo Reef. This amazing area is great for diving and fishing all year round, featuring
spectacular reefs and marine life, white sandy beaches and warm turquoise waters.
You can swim with the dolphins of Monkey Mia, and see sea lions, manta rays, dugongs
and humpback whales. Inland is just as exciting with wildflowers bursting into colour
during the famous wildflower season.
The North West
Australia’s North West is one of the world’s last true wilderness areas and home to The
Kimberley. The seaside town of Broome is the Southern gateway to this spectacular
region with the awesome 22km stretch of Cable Beach and its pure white sand. From
Broome, you can discover red-earth country and experience an authentic Aussie
outback adventure by four wheel drive. There are extraordinary rock formations and
magnificent waterfalls, or you can cruise through the inland waterways of the region.
Highlights include the Bungle Bungle Range, the rocky landscapes of Karijini National
Park, the many ancient gorges featured along the Gibb River Road, and Lake Argyle
– an inland sea. It’s like nothing you have seen before.
The Golden Outback
A fascinating mix of nature, Indigenous culture, pioneering history and self-drive
adventures – all set against an amazing backdrop of wide open plains, endless blue
skies and spectacular coastal scenery and beautiful wildflowers.
The Gascoyne Murchison region, in the north of Western Australia’s Golden Outback,
is characterised by miles of rich red earth, golden fields, rugged rock formations, vast
cattle stations and towns built on the dreams of the wild gold rush era. Closer to
Perth are the Goldfields towns of Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie - take a weekend trip
and experience their history. There are also many sightseeing tours you can take to
famous Wave Rock and the towns of the agricultural area known as the Wheatbelt.
Esperance and the Fitzgerald Coast
Esperance and the Fitzgerald Coast, located the South coast of Western Australia,
have some of the state’s most untouched coastal scenery, national parks and marine
playgrounds. The brilliant blue waters, snow-white beaches and over 100 islands
create a dazzling contrast to the red earth of the surrounding outback.
Perth ALSO has great shopping
with so many things to see and do.

Public transport is a reliable

offering discount student fares

tourist routes. If you want to
drive, the roads and freeways
are the best in the world and
there are heaps of scenic cycling

MY DAY AT IIBT
7:00AM Fridays are a bright and early wake up call. This is my busiest day because I
have lectures, tutorials and preparation classes.
8:15am–9:45am Although it is an early class, my Business Statistics lecture always
leaves me feeling rewarded for the effort of being here . This is one of my favourite
classes. Our lecturer motivates us to participate during class, making it really enjoyable
to learn new information.
9:45am–10:00am Morning tea. This is when I stretch my legs and grab my morning
coffee. There is such a variety of food stores around campus, I never run out of options
of what to eat.
10:00am–12:30PM Now it’s time to settle in for the Business Statistics tutorial.
This is where I feel the challenge of learning new concepts and how they apply
to the business world. The activities always keep me alert and the workbooks
summarise what we have learnt in each class which is really helpful.
12:30Pm–1:00PM Lunch time. The best way to break up the day is to
head across the road from campus for a quick noodle or curry dish. The
food around here is just so good and it’s all right on the door step of the
IIBT campus.
1:00Pm–3:00PM The final class for a Friday is uni preparation. It is
where I get to check that I know how to reference and write properly –
ready for uni.
3:00PM After a long and stimulating day, my friends and I
are going to catch the bus back home before dinner out in
Northbridge and a night of karaoke.

MY DAY AT IIBT - academic english
7:45AM Time to get to the bus stop, so I can make my 8:15am class. I need to catch the bus
at 7:50am because I don’t want to be late.
8:15am–9:45am My Academic English class has just begun and we are working on our
oral presentations that are due in a couple of weeks. It has been a great assignment because
we were each given a subject to research and present to the class.
9:45am–10:00am Morning tea time. My favourite place to grab a quick bite to eat is the
bakery up the road. It is so close I can grab my savoury scroll and coffee with plenty of time to
spare.
10:00am–11:30AM We are now heading into the computer lab to research our
presentation topic. I love it when we are in the computer lab because our teacher teaches us
how to reference our work correctly.
11:30Pm–11:45AM Now it’s time for our second break of the day. I am heading up to the
Post Office up the road to send some postcards back home. Everything is so close to the IIBT
Campus that I can do my grocery shopping, banking and money exchange all in one place. It is
the best.
11:45Am–12:45PM We are finishing up our class today with some listening activities to
help with English terminology. Our teacher is very good at coming up with interactive games
for us, so that we can remember what we have learnt.
12:45PM Class is over for today and I am going to to head across the road with some
friends to grab some lunch and then we’ll go home to work on our homework for tomorrow.

Margaret River is famous for its produce and Dunsborough for its surf beaches. There are art trails, whale watching tours and many beautiful towns like Manjimup, Bunbury and Albany that offer lots of interesting things to do on a weekend away. • 34. MY DAY AT IIBT 7:00AM Fridays are a bright and early wake up call. This is my busiest day because I have lectures, tutorials and preparation classes. 8:15am–9:45am Although it is an early class, my Business Statistics lecture always leaves me feeling rewarded for the effort of being here . This is one of my favourite classes. Our lecturer motivates us to participate during class, making it really enjoyable to learn new information. 9:45am–10:00am Morning tea. This is when I stretch my legs and grab my morning coffee. There is such a variety of food stores around campus, I never run out of options of what to eat. 10:00am–12:30PM Now it’s time to settle in for the Business Statistics tutorial. This is where I feel the challenge of learning new concepts and how they apply to the business world. The activities always keep me alert and the workbooks summarise what we have learnt in each class which is really helpful. 12:30Pm–1:00PM Lunch time. The best way to break up the day is to head across the road from campus for a quick noodle or curry dish. The food around here is just so good and it’s all right on the door step of the IIBT campus. 1:00Pm–3:00PM The final class for a Friday is uni preparation. It is where I get to check that I know how to reference and write properly – ready for uni. 3:00PM After a long and stimulating day, my friends and I are going to catch the bus back home before dinner out in Northbridge and a night of karaoke. 33 | IIBT 2016/2017 PROSPECTUS - Providing Pathways to Uni

I need to catch the bus at 7:50am because I don’t want to be late. 8:15am–9:45am My Academic English class has just begun and we are working on our oral presentations that are due in a couple of weeks. It has been a great assignment because we were each given a subject to research and present to the class. 9:45am–10:00am Morning tea time. My favourite place to grab a quick bite to eat is the bakery up the road. It is so close I can grab my savoury scroll and coffee with plenty of time to spare. 10:00am–11:30AM We are now heading into the computer lab to research our presentation topic. I love it when we are in the computer lab because our teacher teaches us how to reference our work correctly. 11:30Pm–11:45AM Now it’s time for our second break of the day. I am heading up to the Post Office up the road to send some postcards back home. It is the best. 11:45Am–12:45PM We are finishing up our class today with some listening activities to help with English terminology. Our teacher is very good at coming up with interactive games for us, so that we can remember what we have learnt. 12:45PM Class is over for today and I am going to to head across the road with some friends to grab some lunch and then we’ll go home to work on our homework for tomorrow. 39 | IIBT 2016/2017 PROSPECTUS - Providing Pathways to Uni
