George R. R. Martin uses his animalistic tendencies and relates it to the human nature in his
series: A Song of Ice and Fire . A song of ice and fire is a series of novels by the American
novelist and screenwriter, George R. R. Martin. The first volume of the series, a game of thrones,
was begun in 1991 and first published in 1996. The series has grown from a planned trilogy to
seven volumes, the fifth and most recent of which, a dance with dragons, took Martin five years to
write before its publication in 2011. The sixth novel, the winds of winter, is still being written.

On Essos, Daenerys Targaryen rises from a pauper sold into marriage, to a powerful and intelligent
ruler. Her rise is aided by the birth of three dragons from eggs given to her as wedding gifts: used
initially as symbols, and later as weapons.
George R.R. Martin was born September 20, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey. His father was
Raymond Collins Martin, a longshoreman, and his mother was Margaret Brady Martin. He has two
sisters, Darleen Martin Lapinski and Janet Martin Patten.
Martin attended Mary Jane Donohoe School and Marist High School. He began writing very
young, selling monster stories to other neighborhood children for pennies, dramatic readings
included. Later he became a comic book fan and collector in high school, and began to write fiction
for comic fanzines (amateur fan magazines). Martin s first professional sale was made in 1970 at
age 21: The Hero, sold to Galaxy, published in February, 1971 issue. Other sales

The Maze Runner Percy Jackson Similarities
In the movie The Maze Runner Series the main character Thomas is very much like the main
character Percy in the Percy Jackson Series. Is that just a coincidence or are they somehow
connected? Percy Jackson is related to greek mythology and there is a minotaur which is a head of
a bull body of man who lives in a labyrinthand tries to harm people. In The Maze Runnerit does not
directly link to greek mythologyhowever there is a monster who lives in the maze called grievers
and they try to harm everyone they come in contact with. Could the griever and minotaur connect
the two movies?
Thomas and Percy have very similar personalities and this is another reason i believe the two
movies may be linked together. One reason i believe this is because

Marketing in Business Success
Introduction
Today, marketing plays an important role in business success. Marketing drives successful
organization, but it is often misinterpreted and sometimes gets bad press (Jobber and Ellis
Chadwick, 2013: 4). Peter Drucker stated that the basic function of marketing is to attract and retain
customers at a profit . On the other hand, British Institute of Marketing (BIM) defines Marketing is
the management process for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements
profitably. Along with rapid globalization, changing information technology, changing consumer
profile and intensity of competition, marketing is more sophisticated than the past (Dalgic and
Yeniceri, 2013). There are many ways for new products approaching the markets. Many companies
use customer oriented marketing as the main strategy, especially in the context of the marketing
mix for their new products. This assignment will discuss customer orientation and its implications
of two factors of the marketing mix: product and price.
I.Customer orientation in context of marketing mix
1.Marketing mix
Based on understanding about customer behaviour, the companies tend to depend on their created
marketing mix to promote new products, which consists originally four key elements (4Ps) namely
product, price, promotion and place. Today, marketing mix is developed and includes other Ps like
physical evidence, processes, and people as critical elements (CIM 2009).
2.What is customer orientation?

The Song Arms Of The Angel By Sarah Mclachlan
The song Arms of the Angel by Sarah McLachlan is an emotional song that many can relate to. It
is about the loss of someone close that has endured pain and will, hopefully, find comfort and
peace in the arms of an angel . Pairing this song with animal cruelty would release a surge of
emotions in the audience, which is exactly what the creators of the ASPCA commercial were
targeting. ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
) is a non profit
organization set to receive monthly donations in order to save the lives of innocent animals being
abused and neglected. The commercial is trying to persuade animal lovers and pet owners, which
is approximately 62% of households in America, to donate to the ASPCA and to provide effective
means to prevent animal cruelty. The commercial appeals to the ethical, emotional, and logical
senses of the audience with their choice of speaker, the visuals, song, and word choice used, and
the reasoning and statistics in the commercial to persuade the viewers to donate and to expose the
evils of animal cruelty.
One way the ASPCA commercial strives to persuade its audience is through its employment of
Grammy Award winning artist, Sarah McLachlan, as its spokesperson. 53 seconds into the
commercial, Sarah McLachlan is shown sitting on a couch petting a yellow lab, with the caption
on the bottom of the screen reading ASPCA Supporter . This particular instance of the commercial
uses a very strong sense of ethos because of how

Orange and Teal
It was first established in 2000 with film O BROTHER, where art thou? and its called digital

ends of the color wheel. Obtaining these two colors side by side allows the orange objects to appear

image and they are actively used to engage the audience in a movie by constantly creating
complementary contrast to keep the audience attentive.

America s Choice 1960 Presidential Campaign
History`s choice 1960 Presidential campaign What respectable person would think of the best
choice for president? There are plenty of classical case of presidential campaigns in past years. In
1960, the Soviet Union and the United States were in the Cold War. Nevertheless, civil rights and
the fight against apartheid and other issues cause a lot of trouble. According to these historical
background, there are two politicos began to compete for president: John F. Kennedy, a young and
dynamic Massachusetts senator; Nixon, an experienced members of congress. Compared with
Kennedy and Nixon before the presidential campaign, Kennedy not only the lack of rich diplomatic
experience, but also in a disadvantaged situation of his identity of Catholics. However, Kennedy
won the presidential campaign by his unique advantage. There are several differences and
similarities between Kennedy and Nixon that cause the final result of the presidential campaign.
Religionentered the campaign in 1960 as 1928 and it s importance can not be underestimated.
Kennedy and Nixon have a different religion. Many citizens voted for their religion rather than
their politics. In the article, author shows us that some protestant democrats supported Nixon for
religious reasons. As a catholic, Kennedy didn`t in a dominant position. However, Kennedy had

The intent of this lab is to observe the relationship between the muscles and neurons that generate
movement throughout the body. We will interpret four (4) different simulations that initiate a
stimulus varying in intensity, frequency, and weight, while recording its influence on muscle
contractions. The goal of this experiment is to have an enhanced comprehension muscle

increases the latent period would increase, the shortening velocity would decrease, the distance will
decrease, and the contraction duration will decrease. The latent period is the period time that
elapses between the generation of an action potential in a muscle cell to the start of a muscle
contraction. It becomes longer as the load becomes heavier due to a rise in muscle tension but no
movement or contraction of the muscle. Once the muscle tension surpasses the weight of the load
an isotonic concentric contraction, or the shortening of muscles to move the load, commences. The
shortening velocity is the speed of the contraction from the muscle shortening while lifting a load.
Maximal shortening velocity is reached with a minimal load. With a light load, the shortening
velocity is at its maximal shortening velocity; inversely, when the weight is heavy the speed in
which the muscle lifts the weight decreases in speed at a slower velocity, as shown in Fig.

The Comprehensive Security Policy In The Trojan War
Comprehensive Security Policy
Introduction
A company that experiences a social engineering attack to create or reevaluate its security plan in
respect to its email, acceptable use, physical security and incident response plan. Social engineering
attacks have been around forever across many different cultures and platforms. The first major
social engineering attack happened during the mythological Trojan War. The Greek after a ten
year unsuccessful siege of Troy appeared to leave, and leave behind a huge wooden statue of a
horse as a parting gift. The Trojans wheeled in the horse through the gates and proceeded to
celebrate their victory not aware that the horse contained Greek soldiers. The soldiers late at night

Comparing God and AI in Neuromancer Essay
Parallels between God and AI in Neuromancer
The world of meat provides the base for much of what happens throughout William Gibson s novel
Neuromancer. The lives of characters are shaped by their flesh and blood experiences. The realm
of artificial intelligence (AI) is the base for all of the events that are central to the life of a
character. All events and lives are under control of the AI, and all things serve the AI s purpose.
The matrix serves to mash the two realms together, in times and places where AI cannot physically
control the meat. The relationship between these realms is a direct parallel to God s relationship
with man.

This grand scheme remains unknown to Case, and the rest of humanity for that matter, but its
existence is made known. This is indicative of the great meaning of life mystery that Christianity
seeks to understand and explain.
Case is not the sole representative of humanity. All men and women are; human nature and the
desires, needs, and demands thereof are thrown under the term meat. This word is symbolic
itself, being the physical makeup of humans and the source of human movement, as well as being
food for survival. Meat is humanity, then. The meat does all kinds of godless things, including
rampant and wanton drug use, casual, mindless sex, crime for crime s sake as a way of life, and
remaining ignorant to a higher power other than their own will. The portrayal of humanity as meat
makes it a polar opposite to the omnipotent, omnipresent AI. The meat is so far removed from god
that it no longer cares about searching for something greater, it only finds itself indulging
constantly in the senses. For the AI to carry out its purpose, for God to tend to His sheep, there
must be a medium.
The medium comes in the form of a salvific complex of fiber optic cable and ROM,

Mussolini s rise to power
How far do you agree, that the Bienno Rosso was the most important reason for Mussolini and
Fascism s rise to power in Italy, 1919 22?
Mussolini and the fascists managed to rise to power and take control of Italy in 1922. Mussolini
s rise to power took place mainly due to a combination of conditions that characterized the liberal
Italian state, which existed before his take over. The main factors that led to Mussolini s rise to
power were the impact of the First World War, the weaknesses of the Risorgimento, the Biennio
Rosso , the elite s support for the Fascist Party, and the March on Rome. All of these factors
contributed to Mussolini and the fascist s rise to power.

The main political alignments of the newly unified Italy were the liberalists, socialist and the
Catholic Church supporters and they all had different views and opposed each other. When
Giolitti was in power he tried to win over all the key groups in order for them to accept and
support the liberal state, however he was unable to do so because in trying to please one section he
would end up alienating the other.
During the years of the liberal system the development of industry in the North led to the founding
of trade unions and cooperative organizations, which then resulted in a significant growth of
socialism.
The First World War had started reinforcing nationalism, and a desire of great achievements and
glory for the nation. These sudden nationalist beliefs created among the Italians of the Risorgimento
were made stronger by the fear of a possible socialist revolution. The conditions of growing industry
of the Risorgimento had caused the growth of the socialist movement, which then helped Mussolini
gain power due to his anti communist beliefs.
As a result of how Italy was created but not fully unified, the new Italian state suffered from a
variety of weaknesses which the new liberal state was unable to tackle these. This made Italy
susceptible to the appeal of fascism, and therefore aided Mussolini s rise to power.
Another reason that led to Mussolini s rise to power was the Biennio Rosso which took place in

Citizen Kane And The American Dream
Citizen Kane and the American Dream No one can sum up a man s life into one word. This was a
thought intriguingly an idea in the film that still resonates today in our society. Citizen Kane
(1941) is an important film that reflected society s false belief of the American Dream during its
time. The film was directed and starred by Orson Wellesand tells a story of a man name Charles
Foster Kane, who had everything and who lived an ideal life that everyone wanted to have.
However, having many fine possessions of things and a great deal amount of money at his
disposal, did not make him happy. The film reflects on Mr. Kane s life before his death and his
legacy. Citizen Kaneshows how during the era, people wanted to have financial security,
happiness and to gain material success. Although the American Dream is still something people
want today, Citizen Kane shows how attaining the American Dream was something less of a
dream during its era. The film also show the changes of the American Dream from dream to
myth and explores the dark side of the held belief. The term American Dream was first coined in
1931 by James Truslow Adams. The term is defined as, anyone in America can gain wealth and
status as long as he or she worked hard, regardless of their social status. For instance, in one of the
most significant scene, it showed a young Charles Foster Kane playing outside in the snow with his
sled, while his mother watches him from inside the boarding house. In this

Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia)
TITLE Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it s introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA
conducted in India, Environmental Impact Statement(EIS).
INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION :
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative
impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the
environmental, social and economic aspects.
PURPOSE :
The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental
impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The International Association for Impact

Some of the methods are GMP RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic EIA methods need specific
parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However many of
the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality, lifestyle
quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the
impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of
affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate, systematically,
fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic
approach.[9]
At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the
performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main
objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main
considerations are:
scientific to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management to assess the success
of mitigation in reducing impacts.
Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses.
While some believe in a simpler approach where you

The Impact Of Gratitude On Wellbeing
The Impact of Gratitude on Wellbeing
In a world that seeks answers to everything, people strive for perfection by working on their
strengths and weaknesses. With technological advantages, people aim to live as long as possible
with optimal functioning in the body and mind. It has been a goal of human existence to maintain
ourselves in any way we can. One way this is done is through gratitude, which has been regarded as
universally valuable, tracing back to the beginning of time. Ever since the 1930s, researchers have
tried to measure how effectively gratitude helps people of all backgrounds (Bono, Emmons,
McCullough, 2004). Cultures define gratitude based on the way they perceive it. Western society
regards gratitude as something that is needed during certain times, while poorer societies might rely
on gratitude to help them survive. Although gratitude has different meanings, it has been utilized
for maintaining wellbeing. It has become a question of how well gratitude impacts our wellbeing.
However, before we can understand this relationship, we must define wellbeing.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing, synonymous with happiness, has been defined as the way people describe their lives
and what matters to them (Diener, Lukas, Oishi, 2002). Since it is a person s judgment over their
own life, it is subjective. Thus, it should be understood that wellbeing is subjective, as happiness
has a different meaning for everyone. It has been questioned to what extent wellbeing is affected by

Zachary Ingle states his intentions, I intend to answer the question as to whether racist fear
indeed victimized the screenplay of A Raisin in the Sun (Ingle). While, Kodat digs into a

a child of racist fear and victimization. As stated in in The Norton Introduction to Literature ,
historical criticism took the obvious facts that a work is created in a specific historical and
cultural context and that the author is a part of that context is reasons to treat literature as a
reflective society (1833). This reflective model is used by both Kodat and Ingle in their intents of
depicting A Raisin in the Sun . The screenplay had mixed reviews coming across on the clichГ©
side, with an African American chauffer, ghetto and when Walter asked Beneatha about wanting to
be a doctor. Making a statement of why couldn t she become a nurse like other women (1592).
Ingle writes, A Raisin in the Sun stands as the greatest African American play of the twentieth
century, as well as one of the greatest American dramas, period. Black theatre historian James V.

Economic Viability Of The Slave Trade System
How Did Economic Viability of The Slave Trade System in relation to The Productivity of Slave
Agriculture Change over Time? The transatlantic slave trade which took place during the mid
seventeenth century until the late eighteenth century is observed as one of the largest forced
migrations (Lewis, et Al., 2009, 2). The discovery of the America s pursued by European nations
led to the uncovering of significant luxury goods and precious metals such as sugar, coffee, and
gold (Eltis, 2008, 1). The slave trade resulted in African slaves that were trafficked from Africa to
the America s to be used as labor supply to mass produce these goods on plantations set up along the
coast. These luxury products in its primary form were produced at these plantations and were
transported back to Europe to satisfy the high demand for luxury goods (Eltis, 2008, 4). Over the
period where the transatlantic slave trade was active, the relationship between the economic
viability of the slave trade system and the agricultural productivity of slaves offset each other and
move with each other. The research presented has demonstrated that mortality rates of slaves and
transportation costs affected the economic viability to sustain the slave trade which would then
affect agricultural slave productivity on the plantations within the Caribbean. What has been
examined throughout the research findings conveys the idea that in the beginning of the slave
trade, high transportation costs and high mortality

The Large Bathers Essay
Paul CГ©zanne was an Impressionist painter that helped bridge the gap between Impressionism
and Cubism. Both Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso said he was The father to us all .(Paul
CГ©zanne, 2016) Both artists took inspiration from the CГ©zanne s painting The Large Bathers
and made paintings of their own from the ideas CГ©zanne started.
The Large Bathers show us a scene of women bathing in a river. The colors we see are mostly blue
with some browns and greens mixed in. It s thought that this painting was unfinished as CГ©zanne
died in 1906, and you can see some of the figures in the bottom right seem incomplete. Matisse
took the idea of bathing women but added his own signature color schemes. In Bonheur de Vivre

expenditures fulfill students needs efficiently and appropriately. The impact the problem is having
is that when the lessons are not fully supplemented with the required supplies there is a lack of

In the observations of the classrooms, we had a chance to observe a lesson that had the correct
supplies. In this classroom setting, a large number of the students appeared to be engaged and
were able to answer questions easily. The students interacted better in the class when the
supplies were present because they were able to have visual and hands on references to engage
the students. We also observed a classroom that did not have the supplies needed and found that
a large percentage of the students were not engaged, and a few had their heads down on their
desks. In this class, when the teacher asked questions only three students participated and the rest
did not. During both classroom visits we made sure to pick similar teachers that were teaching
the same subject with similar lesson plans. We began to see the effect of not having supplies
versus having a well supplied classroom. We then realized that the school s process for financial
expenditures is not well aligned with students needs and was affecting the end product, which
provides the engagement and educational needs of the students. If we could repeat this process, we
would have tested more classrooms to see if these observations continued. We would test to see if
supplies received on time helped keep students engaged, and increased successful learning by aiding

Exploring Creative Potential And Their Relationship With...
One study used a measurement of interviewing the parent and child, along with different
questionnaires, to analyze creative potential and its relationship with having an imaginary
companion, if there were any gender differences, and whether children would be more likely to
have a negative self image. M. Taylor interviewed both children and their parents and demonstrated
that the parents of younger children seemed more aware of their child having an imaginary
companion, while only 20% of parents with children aged 6 to 7 knew, supporting study by Hurlock
(1932). As cited in Manosevitz, a study done by Schmechel found direct questioning of the child
about their imaginary companions had a higher occurrence (50%) compared to parental report
(31%) (Manosevitz, 1977). Further suggesting that parental report alone is not affective in
measurement of the presence of imaginary companions. In addition to the interview multiple
questionnaires including the Activity Questionnaire, Creative Functioning Test, the Unusual Uses
test, Self Image Inventory, and a questionnaire about imaginary companions were administered.
Results found that having an imaginary companion was related to two out of three estimates of
creative potential, contrary to Manosevitz findings, and having an imaginary companion was
correlated with a lower self image (Hoff, 2005). Although having an imaginary companion was
associated with a lower self image, that self image is still among average for those who

Neighborhood Theories
Theories on Neighborhoods Defining a neighborhood, is a built community or unit that surrounds a
person, place, or object. Neighborhoods can be categorized into three subjects; upper class, middle
class, underclass. With this noted, one theory about neighborhoods is its relations with race and
income. As Reynold Farley discussed, ...the moves people make and assess the extent to which
neighborhood racial composition, independent of a variety of other individual and neighborhood

An Analysis Of When Worlds Collide
The term When Worlds Collide describes the convergence of the old and new worlds. In the year
of 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed westward across the Atlantic Ocean with the hope of
finding a new sea route from Europe to India. Though he struck land, it was not Indian soil. Where
he landed was a new worldfull of promise and foreign goods, but also tragedy and challenges. Soon,
many nations from Europecame to the Americas, such as the Spanish, French, and the English. The
controversy between the worlds that followed this justifies the use of the word collide as opposed
to When Worlds Meet ; the collision vastly changed both worlds, positively and negatively.

However, what the Conquistadors did not realize was that the jewelry of the natives was the only
gold they had. A Spanish Conquistador turned missionary named Bartolome de las Casas described
the torturous conditions that the Spanish put the natives through in his book, The Deconstruction
of the Indies. Of all the nations that came to the Americas, the Spanish were by far the most cruel
and power hungry of them all.
On the polar opposite of the spectrum were the French. While the Spanish settled the southern
Americas and treated the Indians poorly, the French settled the northernmost parts of America, but
treated the natives with respect and honor. Instead of demanding things and forcing the Indians to
give them precious goods, the French traded with the natives and built an alliance with them. Many
Indians converted to Christianity because the religion was not being forced upon them, unlike the
Spanish and natives in the south. This type of alliance could be the basis of a strong bond between
the Indians and new settlers, but this bond is, again, broken when the English arrive to the east
coast of the native s land.
In 1606, the English entered the search for gold in the new world by settling in Jamestown,
Virginia. They faced harsh winters, scolding summers, and starvation, but perhaps the biggest
challenge in which they faced was the Powhatan Indians. This group of natives strongly defended
their invaded land, making it

Comparing The Sixth Sense And The Shining
What if you had a unique ability? What would you do with it? How would you use it? In the
movies, The Sixth Sense and The Shining, that is just what the main characters have the ability to
achieve, a supernatural ability. The Shining revolves around five year old Danny Torrance. Danny
s father, Jack, receives a job at the overlook hotelas caretaker. After moving into the hotel and
residing there for five months Danny s supernatural ability advises Danny of a tragic event that is
soon to occur in the hotel. After Danny s father is taken over by the spirits and goes insane trying

Both The Shining and The Sixth Sense share a common theme. A theme that is found in both
movies is a supernatural theme. When an event occurs that is supernatural, it is most times
perceived as a frightening, almost terrifying event. In both movies there were many supernatural
occurrences. For instance, in The Shining, when Jack enters room 237 he sees a young woman
sitting in the tub, a ghoul. Upon seeing Jack, the ghoul slowly pushes back the curtain and
immerges from the tub walking towards Jack. Jack seeing a, sexual invitation, advances towards
the women. The women grabs his face and begins kissing him. Jack notices in the mirror that the
women is rotting and becomes frightened, and runs away while the ghoul laughs hysterically.
This is bizarre for the reason that the only humans in the Overlook hotel are Danny, his mother
Wendy, and his father Jack. Therefore it can be concluded that the ghoul is a ghost in the hotel.
There are also scenes towards, the end of the movie, that display to the viewer that the hotel is
aiding Jack in killing his wife Wendy. For example, when Wendy is escaping the Overlook Hotel
towards the end she meets up with the ghost with a bloody hand as a way of stalling her from
escaping before her son is killed. Both these instances, along with many more, prove the theme of
supernatural in the movie The

Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of Human Intelligence
History of the Intelligence Theory
The history of Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of Human Intelligence can be traced back to 1977,
1985, and 1995. Robert Sternberg s principal proponent of this intelligence theory. He developed the
theory when he was teaching at the Yale University. His aim was to establish how education could
enhance creative intelligence (experiential), analytical intelligence (componential), and the practical
intelligence (contextual). The analytical component helps students to break down the problem,
process the information, and solve it. Analytical skills are essential since they help the student to

in school affected academic performance. The conducted study was in Raleigh, North Carolina and
another one in Baltimore, Maryland, and Fresno, California. The student sample in Raleigh, North
Carolina was mostly from low income families, totaling 225. The other sample was of students from
middle to upper middle class families, totaling 142. The test involved teaching by using three
primary methods. In the first one, students had no interventions with the teaching, with the main
purpose was to memorize. In the second group was taught how to analyze the information. In the
final group had applied the analytical, creativity, and practical strategies for the teaching. The

Baranczak And Trzeciak
In the Nobel Lecture written in 1996, Szymborska pinpoints the inspiration of her poetry by asking
the question I don t know . Szymborska continues to elaborate on this concept by stating it s just not
easy to explain to someone else what you don t understand yourself. Using this notion to pinpoint
the themes she develops throughout the context of her poems, she portrays The End and the
Beginning through two contradicting ideas that refer back to the concept of I don t know. The title
itself interprets a contrastof two opposite ideas, the end and the beginning. But what do these themes
represent? These two different perspectives are elaborated within each translation. The poem begins
by introducing this aspect, After every war someone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Referring to the concept of the two perspectives, Szymborska s diction, tone, and imagery
introduces a theme of war. She titles the poem this way to express one perspective of war, which is
defined through the context of the poem, the end. This aspect is thoroughly emphasized through
Baranczak and Cavanaugh s translation. The diction provided by Baranczak and Cavanaugh s
translation provides the tone and imagery that form this poem. The descriptive element in this
literary work creates an effect of imagery. The audience can vividly comprehend the idea that
Szymborska introduces unlike Trzeciak s translation, which expresses a more concise tone. The
brevity of her translation makes the piece less descriptive and introduces little imagery. Baranczak

the end of the war instead of the beginning. The meaning of the end and the beginning can reflect
multitudes of themes. Szymborska s diction introduces the theme of war. This theme is better

Understanding White Collar Crime
In the United States, there are many different types of crimes that are committed. One type of
crime that is considered non violent would be white collar crime. Under white collared crimes
there are hundreds of different types of crimes that would fall under this category. Sociologist and
criminologists have come up with many different theories to what white collar crime is and what
type of people commit these crimes. In the next few paragraphs I will explain what white collar
crime is and my opinion on how white collar crime should be dealt with.

In the recent years, with more state and federal laws against these white collar crimes, it has
become more difficult to get away with such crimes. There are more agencies out there today that
help prevent and help catch these white collar criminals before they hurt many individuals and
investors. Agencies like the FBI, the National Check Fraud Center and the National White Collar
Crime Center which teaches small to large businesses how to prevent and know how to spot a
white collar crime within their company. Even though there are many protections out there today, it
is still a hard crime to prevent. Most local law enforcement officers don t see these types of white
collar crimes happen due to the criminals committing the crimes are in a private setting when
committing these types of crimes (Schmalleger). Usually, the individuals committing white collar
crimes are trusted employees within a business and the crime isn t caught till after the offense has

In conclusion, white collar crime has become more of a common thing within businesses today
than ever before. Or, it may becoming more noticeable as more prevention is put into place to
catch these white collar crimes. I do believe most of the white collar crime committed is due to
greed. I also

Charles Mingus was born on 22 April 1922 in Los Angeles, California. His father joined the army
in 1915 after a frustrating career in the post office. His mother died only five months after Mingus
was born.
The times were hard in Los Angeles, as more and more poor people migrated into the city, and the
small suburb of Watts turned into a black ghetto inside of a single decade. But young Mingus was
pretty much protected from all the social pressure.
His family was basically middle class. His father has remarried, and Mingus step mother had soon

He was already trying to work out alternative techniques of working with his musicians. He would
teach them his music by playing it for them, and would take a more active role in directing the band.
By the end of his teens, Mingus had become proficient in music theory, and had a vast knowledge
of music, classical and Jazz. Among his influences are Duke,
Wagner, Strauss, Debussy. This becomes evident in the fact that most of Mingus music is
programmatic and quite on the romantic side.
Staying on the west coast, Mingus began playing gigs and on recording dates. His first high
profile exposure was on a recording with the Illinois Jacquet band. In this recording a few solo
spots showed Mingus to be an innovative bassist, playing double stops, jumping octaves, counter
melodies and with a sound that was well ahead of his time.
While developing his own style, Mingus was still composing and trying to keep his own band
together by doing gigs. This turned out to be quite hard and depressed
Mingus almost to the point of being institutionalized.
Around 1947 Mingus started playing more luxurious gigs, and finally had been given a steady job
with the Lion Hampton band, where he was featured as a soloist. This led to more and more people
calling him, a better income and more motivation to play his own music.
By 1953 he has advanced well beyond

Given the competitive dynamics in the commercial aircraft industry, it is not likely that Airbus
could have become a viable competitor without subsidies. These dynamics include investment
costs in the billions for research and development of a new airliner, long break even times,
significant experience curve on the manufacturing side, and the highly volatile demand for

5. Why do you think that the U.S. industry reacted with caution to attempts by politicians to reopen
the trade dispute in 1993?
There are several reasons why the US industry acted with caution. First of all, positive trade
agreements were already in place from the 1992 trade agreement. The industry probably thought it
should wait longer to ensure things worked out on their own before allowing politicians to
intervene and make changes. If politicians had caused things to go south, which they inevitably do,
these agreements would have been jeopardized. Secondly, the industry was practicing risk
management. A lack of caution could have created a mess as the economy was taking a turn for the
worse. Lastly, reopening old wounds could have caused Europe to pull out of many deals with the
US, further disrupting international relations. The US weighed the odds and very quietly backed
out, as they should have.

of large domestic firms through mergers and acquisitions?

The cost of LASIK vision correction is not cheap. Prices for the surgery range from $1,200 to
$3,000 per eye (May 92). Some insurance companies will pay for the procedure, but that is the
exception rather than the rule.
Although most results of LASIK surgery have been favorable, many side effects have been noted
along the way. One possible side effect is hazing. Hazing is the term used for a cellular reaction
that occasionally develops in the corneal stroma following surface laser refractive procedures
(May 67). Serious hazing is extremely rare with patients who have chosen LASIK. Patients
experiencing hazing are often told to increase the doses of steroid drops they are using. These
drops are usually enough to resolve the hazing without affecting their vision.
Another possible side effect evolving from LASIK surgery is that of dry eye. Dry eye is
described as grittiness in the eye. This grittiness is usually resolved within the first one to three
months following surgery. In a survey of 550 patients done by Dr. Robert Maloney, forty to fifty
percent noted experiencing dry eyes three months following their surgery. All patients should be

Race is a modern idea that was not used back when ancient societies were one. It is crazy to think

American War And The American Civil War
In the beginning when America was uniting and trying to form its official government the northern
states and the southern states had already different greatly from each other. The North was
industrializing and working on expanding west and the South was booming with farming and its
famous cash crop. The North wanted to abolish slavery and the South did not. Since the North and
South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose
between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to

chief crop which came to be known as King Cotton, accounted for 57% of all U.S. exports ( Civil

depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern
economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did.
This caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured
goods from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas.
Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did
because their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid
production. The Union also decided to not utilize slave labor because slave labor was against many
of the northerner s morals. Since the North was industrialized and they manufactured goods, they
had to compete with other manufactures overseas. To demolish competition from the imported
goods from overseas, the northerners demanded high tariffs on the imported goods so that more

Revenge In Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe tells the tale of a man that is wronged and avenges
this wrong in the most sinister way possible. After being insulted by a man named Fortunato, the
narrator [vows] revenge but more specifically wants to punish with impunity (qtd. in Meyer
536), this is the primary conflict in the story: the narrators hope to avenge this insult without
getting caught. The narrator creates an elaborate scheme to murder Fortunato, but never
explicitly states what Fortunato did to insult him. The narrator uses Fortunato s weakness for
wine and lures him into the catacombs of the Montresors (qtd. in Meyer 537). Montresor plays
to Fortunato s pride and tells him he has come into possession of a bottle of Amontillado, a rare
wine, and would like for Fortunato to use his extensive wine knowledge to see if the wine is
genuine or not. The climax of the story is the moment at which Fortunato is chained to the wall of
the catacombs. Under his ploy, Montresor is able to get Fortunato into the deepest part of the
catacombs where he has set up supplies to bury Fortunato alive behind a brick wall. Poe builds
suspense in the story through Montresor s slow reveal of his plan. Although the reader is aware he
plans to take revenge we are not aware of the severity until later in the story. The main character,

Essay On Relationship Between Lord Of The Flies And The...
The politician Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, Think 100 times before you take a decision, but
once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man. In the novels Lord of the Flies, written by
William Golding, and The Odyssey, written by Homer, this message is conveyed throughout.
Furthermore, in Lord of the Flies the main character Ralph finds himself on an unfamiliar island
and later finds other people. The story is characterized by the conflict between human natures; for
example, savagery amongst the children and the hope for rescue. During the course of the book,
Ralph is plagued with difficult decisions. Likewise, The Odysseyis about the journeys of a man
named Odysseus who has to make numerous tough decisions on his voyage back home. In
correlation to the eloquent dialogue of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when making decisions, one must be
thoughtful before undergoing the task.
First, when making decisions, one must always acknowledge his opponents. One should
especially consider the enemy s strengths and weaknesses. For example, after contemplating the
skills of the Cyclops in the cave, Odysseus drew on all [his] wits, and ran through tactics... until a

It is about the loss of someone close that has endured pain and will, hopefully, find comfort and peace in the arms of an angel . Pairing this song with animal cruelty would release a surge of emotions in the audience, which is exactly what the creators of the ASPCA commercial were targeting. ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ) is a non profit organization set to receive monthly donations in order to save the lives of innocent animals being abused and neglected. The commercial is trying to persuade animal lovers and pet owners, which is approximately 62% of households in America, to donate to the ASPCA and to provide effective means to prevent animal cruelty. The commercial appeals to the ethical, emotional, and logical senses of the audience with their choice of speaker, the visuals, song, and word choice used, and the reasoning and statistics in the commercial to persuade the viewers to donate and to expose the evils of animal cruelty. One way the ASPCA commercial strives to persuade its audience is through its employment of Grammy Award winning artist, Sarah McLachlan, as its spokesperson. 53 seconds into the commercial, Sarah McLachlan is shown sitting on a couch petting a yellow lab, with the caption on the bottom of the screen reading ASPCA Supporter . It becomes longer as the load becomes heavier due to a rise in muscle tension but no movement or contraction of the muscle. Once the muscle tension surpasses the weight of the load an isotonic concentric contraction, or the shortening of muscles to move the load, commences. The shortening velocity is the speed of the contraction from the muscle shortening while lifting a load. Maximal shortening velocity is reached with a minimal load. With technological advantages, people aim to live as long as possible with optimal functioning in the body and mind. It has been a goal of human existence to maintain ourselves in any way we can. One way this is done is through gratitude, which has been regarded as universally valuable, tracing back to the beginning of time. Ever since the 1930s, researchers have tried to measure how effectively gratitude helps people of all backgrounds (Bono, Emmons, McCullough, 2004). Cultures define gratitude based on the way they perceive it. Western society regards gratitude as something that is needed during certain times, while poorer societies might rely on gratitude to help them survive. Although gratitude has different meanings, it has been utilized for maintaining wellbeing. It has become a question of how well gratitude impacts our wellbeing. However, before we can understand this relationship, we must define wellbeing. Wellbeing Wellbeing, synonymous with happiness, has been defined as the way people describe their lives and what matters to them (Diener, Lukas, Oishi, 2002). The transatlantic slave trade which took place during the mid seventeenth century until the late eighteenth century is observed as one of the largest forced migrations (Lewis, et Al., 2009, 2). The discovery of the America s pursued by European nations led to the uncovering of significant luxury goods and precious metals such as sugar, coffee, and gold (Eltis, 2008, 1). The slave trade resulted in African slaves that were trafficked from Africa to the America s to be used as labor supply to mass produce these goods on plantations set up along the coast. These luxury products in its primary form were produced at these plantations and were transported back to Europe to satisfy the high demand for luxury goods (Eltis, 2008, 4). Over the period where the transatlantic slave trade was active, the relationship between the economic viability of the slave trade system and the agricultural productivity of slaves offset each other and move with each other. The research presented has demonstrated that mortality rates of slaves and transportation costs affected the economic viability to sustain the slave trade which would then affect agricultural slave productivity on the plantations within the Caribbean. Usually, the individuals committing white collar crimes are trusted employees within a business and the crime isn t caught till after the offense has been made. • 29. Charles Mingus Research Paper Charles Mingus Charles Mingus was born on 22 April 1922 in Los Angeles, California. His father joined the army in 1915 after a frustrating career in the post office. His mother died only five months after Mingus was born. The times were hard in Los Angeles, as more and more poor people migrated into the city, and the small suburb of Watts turned into a black ghetto inside of a single decade. But young Mingus was pretty much protected from all the social pressure. His family was basically middle class. His father has remarried, and Mingus step mother had soon taken an active role in his education. Mamie Carson Mingus encouraged her step children to take an interest in music. By the end of his teens, Mingus had become proficient in music theory, and had a vast knowledge of music, classical and Jazz. Among his influences are Duke, Wagner, Strauss, Debussy. This becomes evident in the fact that most of Mingus music is programmatic and quite on the romantic side. Staying on the west coast, Mingus began playing gigs and on recording dates. His first high profile exposure was on a recording with the Illinois Jacquet band. In this recording a few solo spots showed Mingus to be an innovative bassist, playing double stops, jumping octaves, counter melodies and with a sound that was well ahead of his time. While developing his own style, Mingus was still composing and trying to keep his own band together by doing gigs. This turned out to be quite hard and depressed Mingus almost to the point of being institutionalized. Around 1947 Mingus started playing more luxurious gigs, and finally had been given a steady job with the Lion Hampton band, where he was featured as a soloist. This led to more and more people calling him, a better income and more motivation to play his own music. By 1953 he has advanced well beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the competitive dynamics in the commercial aircraft industry, it is not likely that Airbus could have become a viable competitor without subsidies. These dynamics include investment costs in the billions for research and development of a new airliner, long break even times, significant experience curve on the manufacturing side, and the highly volatile demand for aircraft. There are several reasons why the US industry acted with caution. First of all, positive trade agreements were already in place from the 1992 trade agreement. The industry probably thought it should wait longer to ensure things worked out on their own before allowing politicians to intervene and make changes. If politicians had caused things to go south, which they inevitably do, these agreements would have been jeopardized. Secondly, the industry was practicing risk management. A lack of caution could have created a mess as the economy was taking a turn for the worse. Lastly, reopening old wounds could have caused Europe to pull out of many deals with the US, further disrupting international relations. The US weighed the odds and very quietly backed out, as they should have. 6. Some insurance companies will pay for the procedure, but that is the exception rather than the rule. Although most results of LASIK surgery have been favorable, many side effects have been noted along the way. One possible side effect is hazing. Hazing is the term used for a cellular reaction that occasionally develops in the corneal stroma following surface laser refractive procedures (May 67). Serious hazing is extremely rare with patients who have chosen LASIK. Patients experiencing hazing are often told to increase the doses of steroid drops they are using. These drops are usually enough to resolve the hazing without affecting their vision. Another possible side effect evolving from LASIK surgery is that of dry eye. Dry eye is described as grittiness in the eye. This grittiness is usually resolved within the first one to three months following surgery. The photo of Williams in lingerie was necessary to be released because it showed the public of how alarming the case actually is without crossing the line of being morbid. The TorontoStar received a lot of backlash from the photo released however people need to remember that Williams is a murderer and not to just focus on him being a fetishist (McGrath 2010). However, in order to produce these large amounts of cotton, the southern Confederate states depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did. This caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured goods from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas. Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did because their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid production. The Union also decided to not utilize slave labor because slave labor was against many of the northerner s morals. Since the North was industrialized and they manufactured goods, they had to compete with other manufactures overseas. To demolish competition from the imported goods from overseas, the northerners demanded high tariffs on the imported goods so that more people will buy the manufactured goods from the North instead of the now more expensive imported goods from overseas. • 39. Revenge In Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe tells the tale of a man that is wronged and avenges this wrong in the most sinister way possible. After being insulted by a man named Fortunato, the narrator [vows] revenge but more specifically wants to punish with impunity (qtd. in Meyer 536), this is the primary conflict in the story: the narrators hope to avenge this insult without getting caught. The narrator creates an elaborate scheme to murder Fortunato, but never explicitly states what Fortunato did to insult him. The narrator uses Fortunato s weakness for wine and lures him into the catacombs of the Montresors (qtd. in Meyer 537). Montresor plays to Fortunato s pride and tells him he has come into possession of a bottle of Amontillado, a rare wine, and would like for Fortunato to use his extensive wine knowledge to see if the wine is genuine or not. The climax of the story is the moment at which Fortunato is chained to the wall of the catacombs. Under his ploy, Montresor is able to get Fortunato into the deepest part of the catacombs where he has set up supplies to bury Fortunato alive behind a brick wall. Poe builds suspense in the story through Montresor s slow reveal of his plan. Although the reader is aware he plans to take revenge we are not aware of the severity until later in the story. The politician Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, Think 100 times before you take a decision, but once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man. In the novels Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, and The Odyssey, written by Homer, this message is conveyed throughout. Furthermore, in Lord of the Flies the main character Ralph finds himself on an unfamiliar island and later finds other people. The story is characterized by the conflict between human natures; for example, savagery amongst the children and the hope for rescue. During the course of the book, Ralph is plagued with difficult decisions. Likewise, The Odysseyis about the journeys of a man named Odysseus who has to make numerous tough decisions on his voyage back home. In correlation to the eloquent dialogue of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when making decisions, one must be thoughtful before undergoing the task. First, when making decisions, one must always acknowledge his opponents. One should especially consider the enemy s strengths and weaknesses. For example, after contemplating the skills of the Cyclops in the cave, Odysseus drew on all [his] wits, and ran through tactics... until a trick came and it pleased [him] well (Fitzgerald 381). Why might this be? Family vacations used to be the go to trip for any given time to travel, but as generations advance the destinations of holiday vacations have evolved alongside society. The mindset of the world today has caused people to reject traditional holiday vacations for new experiences. These new experiences can range anywhere from going to exotic places like Jamaica to Greece to just staying home. There is a reason for all of this change, such as the lack of financial stability, the increase in technology and social media, and different kinds of people with their diverse views. Traveling is expensive, and financial issues have begun to cause the downfall of most vacations. People cannot afford to go and see their family, so they stay home on vacations known as staycations. These staycations are a new experience for a lot of people because they are not going anywhere on their vacation time, which is unusual for them. One reason for this is that student loans have gone up tremendously in recent years and before people can worry about going on vacation, they must pay back these debts.
