Comparing Plato s And Aristotle s Speculations
Whether the situation involves a child and a parent, or a ruler and a peasant, the stipulation of
power is in pivotal question. The act of governing another can go from as lenient as free range
disregard to complete dominance. These ranges for imposing control changes the outcome of the
allowed contribution in its citizens. Domination over another is never justified, despite Plato s and
Aristotle s speculations, because it does not allow the fulfillment of the individualon a personal and
State level. The pinnacle of an individual means they are able to be the most sound personmentally,
physically, and emotionally onto others, themselves and the State. When they have attended to their
personal needs, they can also effectively and accurately attend to others and issues bigger than
themselves. The individual s fulfillment for themselves cannot be reached under complete control,
because they are not the best person they can be when their wants and needs aren t addressed.
Plato and Aristotle aim to outline a citizen that helps the State to run at its finest, but set their
basis under the wrong conditions. To look at justice in the soul, Plato used the bigger idea of the
State to compare it to an individual. From his reasoning, there s a strong relationship between
State and citizen and every person has a role that contributes to the bigger piece of a whole. Plato,
however, doesn t regard the individual s wants and needs, only the wants and needs of the State. In
his utopia,

Samandriel, you called from your room, your voice resigned, Can you come here please? Soon
you heard the creak of his footsteps as he entered your room. Ever since you and the boys had

Yes, y/n? He asked innocently. You held up a pair of bright pink panties that definitely weren t

What s this? Samandriel looked confused.
What do you mean? He asked, his eyebrows furrowing and you had to fight the slight smile that
came to your lips at the adorable sight.

I feel like you and the Winchesters forget sometimes, Samandriel continued. His voice was

The Problem of Badger Control in Great Britain Essay
Introduction
Since 1973, controlling badgers in Great Britain has been a political problem. Badgers are one of
the most well known animals in Britain; hence the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 was designed to
protect them (Natural England). However, tuberculosis was discovered in badgers as a result of
Mycobacterium bovis (Muirhead et al., 1974). Till this day, some argue that badgers are a
significant source of infection for cattle, which raises a concern for the society (Krebs, 1997).
Therefore, it raises the issue of whether trials to test the efficacy of badger culling in control of
bovine tuberculosis should be permitted.
Review
Mycobacterium bovis not only causes bovine tuberculosis in badgers but also infects cattle and deer.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The culling of badgers disrupts the structure of their social group, which leads to a widespread
of tuberculosis as they move further away to establish new groups (Briggs, 2012). As a result,
there is an increase in incidence outside areas where badgers were not culled. Consequently,
people are relying on vaccinations and even the government in Devon is providing funds to
farmers who are in areas of high risk (Jones, 2013). The vaccination project in Gloucestershire has
been very successful and in one year it has already immunised 998 badgers. Additionally, improving
biosecurity could decrease transmission by preventing badgers from entering farms and coming
into contact with cattle (Briggs, 2012).
Discussion
Even though vaccinations are expensive and require a lot of effort, rather than immunising badgers,
cattle would relatively cost less and still be successful in controlling bovine tuberculosis (Jones,
2013). However, at the moment the legislation of the European Union bans the vaccination of cattle
because checking for infection in the animals would become challenging (Department for
Environment Food and Rural Affairs). Farmers need a solution to the problem immediately and
they cannot wait for ten years to abolish the ban as incidents in cattle herds are rising increasingly
over the past few years (Briggs, 2012). Thus, culling badgers is the most effective method at present

What Are Cell Surface Carbohydrates
Cell surface carbohydrates are carbohydrate chains that are bonded to lipids and proteins that are
within the phospholipid bilayer of a cell. These are known as glycolipids and glycoproteins; they
have carbohydrate chains protruding from them out of the cell membrane surface. They are the first
molecules to be encountered and recognized by other cells, so they are used to identify the cell.
Carbohydrates are used as the ligand component of glycoconjugates (glycoproteins and glycolipids)
and their structure varies depending on the structure of the molecule it binds to, ranging from small
saccharide units to very large polysaccharide chains. Although the carbohydrate chains are generally
oligosaccharides and can either be straight or branched. Cell surface carbohydrates coat the exterior
surfaces of cell membranes and extend from the phospholipid bilayer into the aqueous environment
outside the cell presenting information rich binding sites and have the potential to carry necessary
information to act as markers for cellular recognition. The anomeric carbon of the carbohydrate
binds to the hydroxyl group present on the lipid or proteinthrough a covalent bond referred to as a
glycosidic bond. The carbohydrate is hydrophilic and contains polar groups that enable the
molecule to be soluble as it forms hydrogen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interactions can occur between glycoconjugates in the same cell as well as trans interactions
between two different cell membranes. The carbohydrate will bind to a specific complementary
carbohydrate or lectin (a carbohydrate binding protein) of a neighboring cell. The detailed

important biological functions. The major functions of these cell surface markers are cell signalling
and cell to cell adhesion and

Bruce Braley Commercial Analysis Essay
The claim in the commercial for Bruce Braley is that Bruce Braley wants to help the people of
Iowa. Throughout the commercial Braley uses a combination of ethos, logos, and pathos to get
people to vote for him. Coupled with the use of the video, audio, and text track he provides a
commercial that provokes the audience to think of Braley as the guy to help Iowa. The first track we
hear being used is the audio track. To start off they say his father died and it was the most difficult
time in his life. Than they go on to talk about it was Bruce s mom, Marcia, that helped get him
back on his feet and convinced him to follow his dream. Although this does represent Braley s
perseverance through tough times it also implies something else. That is that his mom helped him,

The word Braley whether used in a name or elsewhere is constantly present on the screen. He uses
his name Bruce Braley as well as his website brucebrayle.com as a way to advertise himself. At the
time of this commercial being aired many people might not know who he is, so as a way to
become more known he is trying to get his name out there as much as possible. He also puts his
mom s name Marcia Braley in the commercial. This helps build the connection and relatability
between Bruce Braley and his mom, Marcia Braley. The reason this connection is helpful is
because it makes him seem more like his mother who, in the commercial, is displayed as a strong
kind woman. This connection implies that Bruce Braley might also have these same traits as he
is her own son. Finally at the end of the video we see an outline of the state of Iowa with the
name Bruce Braley For U.S. Senate . This use of the visual track is not subtle at all. The director
purposely did this to make it seem like if Braley got voted for US Senate he would be all about
helping Iowa in Washington, just like how he is helping Iowans right now in the state of

The Un Peacekeeping Operations Is Impacted By Internal...
More than 2 million inhabitants moved as refugees to neighboring countries. This conflict proves
that innocent people suffer more than militaries during combats. If internal security issues will not
end, it will be very difficult for the UN mission to accomplish the main tasks. This is because the
internal fighting creates more difficult conditions for the peacekeepingoperations. Therefore, the
success of the UN peacekeeping operations is impacted by internal security problems. The host
government and security agencies are often gridlocked the UN peacekeeping mission. As a result,
the missions cannot implement mandated tasks because internal security issues.
Besides combat actions between the government forces and local rebels, neighboring country s
armed groups or rebels also play an instrumental role in the battle of the host nation. The
neighboring country s rebels not only create a complex situation in the neighboring country s
conflict area, but is also becoming more dangerous for the peacekeepers because rebels do not
have any restrictions. They have one interest which is money. The neighboring country s rebels
survive on looting, robbery, and kidnapping. For instance, at the beginning of the conflict in South
Sudan, the government of South Sudan was supported by the Justice and Equality Movement

High School, Collegiate, And Professional Activities
In my first essay, I took a deeply cynic position against competition. But, as discussed by Shields,
maybe I have not seen true competition. Perhaps what I have viewed in high school, collegiate, and
professional activities is actually decompetition (n.d.). Decompetition is like competition, but it
primarily promotes the worst attributes in athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.).
Regardless, over the course of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold
a neutral view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is
inherently good either. The gameof jacksplayed today was the most pivotal activity in the shift of
my opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of working individually, so one
of us could triumph over the others, we worked together to find the best strategies and methods.
Every time someone threw their handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best
way to gather the jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and
cheered when someone did the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and new;
we used each other s perspectives to figure it out. During our first game, for instance, Amanda
received zero points, and I only won ten. But, by game two, Amanda and I, through trial and error
and the feedback from the others, sharpened our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was
fairly happy with my success,

Industrial Economy During The Gilded Age
Peter Nguyen
Hartlaub
Modern U.S.
5/12/16
At the turn of the 19th century also known as the Gilded Age, many immigrants came to the
United States looking for opportunities to live a new life that they were not able to live back
home. Many of them may have had hopes of finding a miraculous career that would bring them
fame and fortune just like Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Morgan did. But in reality it was not as
glamorous and prosperous as it may have seemed to be. Instead it was filled with greed and
corruption. Although the United States experienced an economic boom, it created an extremely
wealthy upper class. Thus only widening the wealth gap between the rich and poor during this era.
Near the last decades of the 19th century, America s industrial economy skyrocketed. As these
industrial leaders like Carnegie and Rockefeller not only lead the expansion through their respective
industries, but revolutionized businesses while crushing free market competition in the process. As

An example in the case of Qantas is their constant struggle of market share between their domestic
competitors, Virgin Blue. This also has an inverse relationship with the domestic market, where if
there are sudden fluctuations in the international market, the domestic market may make up for the
potential loss. In order to gain this cushioning of the economic cycle, Qantas also had to
effectively spread production costs and promote operation efficiency for their growing
international corporation. Economies of scale are the reduction in costs of productions caused by
increasing the scale of the production facility and spreading fixed costs over a larger output. This
means that as Qantas expands to global markets, they can possibly gain more revenue through
services and this would generate lower average costs and the potential for higher profits. The
purchase of Australian Airlines in September 1992 allowed Qantas to more efficiently use their
aircraft and improve management of passenger capacity and transfers between domestic and
international services. Through their increasing economies of sale, they were able to gain a cushion

How I Learned From The Class Writings
As I look back to when I first started taking this class I began to think about the things that I have
learned. It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before
I started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing
about subjects I enjoy, so when the Justicewas brought up as the main topic of the papers that we
would be writingover the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer
and my distain for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at
hand. What have I learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the
papers I wrote on justice and from the in class writings?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of
some in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each
person possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole
cannot override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by
the greater good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of
their situation, but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority.
My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5
ways America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is
that someone cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person
does not allow people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing
one should always try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article

Coronary Collateral Circulation And Humans Are Often More...
Studies looking at coronary collateral circulation in humans are typically more controversial.
Skeptics have stated that collateral development is probably due to the progression of coronary
artery disease rather than an effect of exercise training. In addition, direct measurement of
collateral growth, typically through coronary angiographic techniques, is difficult and may have
severe limitations due to low levels of resolution of vessels (Heaps et al., 2011). Small vessels
involved in the coronary collateral system ( 100Ојm) are incredibly difficult to view
angiographically, so the full magnitude of collateralization may not be assessed or may be
drastically underestimated (Heaps et al., 2011; Belardinelli et al., 1998).
An additional approach that studies have used to measure collateral circulation development is to
measure the rate pressure product in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Increases in rate
pressure product at the beginning of myocardial ischemia have been found and is potentially
related to increased myocardial oxygen supply from collateral growth stimulation (Senti et al.,
1998). After exercise training, coronary patients have also seen a 29% increase in coronary flow

The Importance Of Gender Equality For Men And Women
Is it fair to pay a woman less that performs the same duties as a man in the workplace? No. Does
equality in the workplace have better results for our overall country s economic performance?
Yes. Reaching gender equality is essential for work relations and work performance due to
fairness. We all perform more efficiently at work when we feel we are being treated fairly.
Equality is attained when we all are put in a position to have access to the same opportunities
and receive the same recognition within our work environment. The objective of this equality is
to reach equal pay for the same jobs performed by men and women. It is a fact that more women
register and graduate from college than men, but still, men with the same education level and
experience as women are paid more and receive better opportunities. According to the
Congressional Digest, Gains have been made in some areas, research by GAO and others has
shown that women s average pay has been, and remains, lower than that of men (2014, p.1).
Considering education levels, women with graduate degrees earn just 69.1% of what men with
graduate degrees earn, and those with bachelor degrees earn 71.4 % of men s salaries. These facts
inform us that women have to reach for more educational qualifications just to attain the same job
pay as men. Workplace equality for men and women is an unresolved and a hot topic that impacts
the workforce. Men and women should receive the same fairness in the workplace, such as equal
pay

The King Case Of Rodney King
One of the examples of how the media can play a role in court cases is the Rodney King case.

International Human Resource Management Practices
International human resource management (IHRM) is the study and application of all human
resource management activities as they impact the process of managing human resources in
enterprises in the global environment (Briscoe, Schuler Tarique, 2012). This part is very important
in order to make sure that all problems at global level can be solved. Our economies in the last 50
years have become more integrated than before. There are a lot of factors that contributed to the
achievement such as multinational enterprise (MNE), small and medium sized enterprises (MSEs),
and non governmental organizations (NGOs).

2 Differences between countries in terms of their cultures and institutions
The first issue that we are going to discuss is about the differences between countries in terms of
their cultures and institutions. Culture is the characteristic way of behaving and believing that a
group of people have developed over time and share in common (Briscoe, Schuler Tarique, 2012).
Whilst globalization is undoubtedly an important aspect of economic activity, it is less significant
in its scale and consequences than some enthusiasts claim (Scholte, 2005). Further, the ways in
which the international management coordination of economic activities is developing reflect
established patterns of economic globalization and competition at national level, such that these
structure any emergent properties of a new transnational business system (Dicken, 2007). So, in this
section we are going to explain evidently the scope of country differences more predominantly. We
will divide it into two perspectives, which are cultural perspectives and institutional perspectives
which developed by Geert Hofstede and Fons Trompenaars.
2.1 Cultural Perspectives by Geert Hofstede
Hofstede defines culture as the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the
members of one group or category of people from another (Rees Edwards, 2011). There are five
dimensions proposes by Hofstede which are power distance, uncertainty avoidance,

Analysis Of Ovid s Metamorphoses
The human spirit has always been fascinated with its roots where people came from, how they got
to be on the Earth, and who or what, if anything, was behind it all. Throughout history, there have
been innumerable accounts looking into the creation and effects thereafter of man and his world.
Three such writings are Metamorphoses by the ancient Roman poet Ovid, the early Mesopotamian
creation epic of the hero Atrahasis which was written on Akkadian tablets, and arguably the most
famous, the book of Genesisin the Christian Bible. These three benchmarks stories are just a few to
have laid the foundations for many cultures and civilizations beliefs, and it s how easily they are
likened, analogized, and weighed that makes them all the more interesting.
The ancient Roman poet Ovid was one of the countless influential writers in history. His dactylic

Our group narrowed down the myriad of industries by analyzing data within the consumer
discretionary industry. During this analysis, the retail group peaked our interest because it
represents a significant portion of the restatements that have occurred within the consumer
discretionary industry. However, these restatements have significantly lowered from the years 2000
2015. We decided to delve into the matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has
more restatements and why they have been decreasing in recent years.
We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick and Mortar

relating to fixed assets and total sales for companies within the retail industry. By utilizing the

The three most influential accounts we detected were revenue, inventory, and depreciation. We
found that these accounts have an inverse relationship with restatement occurrence. We attribute
this to numerous factors, but have specifically reasoned that stores have little incentive to manage
their earnings when a steady increase is occurring, potentially resulting in lower restatements. We
reasoned that the revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a
firm s revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue operations at
an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This demonstrates the positive correlation
between the three accounts. Another factor to attribute to the decline in restatements could be the
implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act in 2002. The restatements within the retail industry

Analyse the themes of imagination, belief and disbelief in the novel.

The Gospel Of Luke Reflection Essay
The theme of the gospel of Luke talks about the journey of the life of Jesus, Christ. His death,

physician, Luke was not only eloquent in his writing about Jesus; he also took interest in his early
life. The Gospel of Lukealso depict Jesusas compassionate, caring, and loving. Likewise, Luke not
only put Jesus at the heart of the Jewish world during the first century, but also at the heart of the
Roman world, where with the Christian gospel exploded.
The first event would be one of his many parables. The Good Samaritan, which is consider one
of his most intriguing in the gospel of Luke. It does not only teaches us a moral lesson, besides,
it also serves as a guidance in our walk with God and our fellowmen. Additionally, we are to go

death. His death on the cross did not only show his love and compassion for humanity, besides
humility. A man with no sin took the sin of the world, sharing his blood for the remission of our
sins. He was not only obedient to the one (his father) who sent him, also death on the cross. And
being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even

Why Do People Commit Crime
Longman dictionary defines crime as an offence that is punishable by law . As BBC Bitesize 2017
describes, doing something wrong is different than committing a crime. For example lying is not
considered as a crime but it is a wrong act that people carry out without getting punished. But why
do people commit crime? Some criminologists believe that people commit crime because it is in
their nature. It has been proved that some people are more likely to commit crime than others due
to the circumstances that they grow up under. According to BBC Bitesize people with anger issues
have a higher possibility of committing a crime. Generally poverty, low self esteem, drug and
alcohol are known as the main causes of crime all around the world.... Show more content on

Children in these families are at higher risk of committing crime than others. On 13/3/2012
government published Social Justice: Transforming lives which explained government s plans
for changing the lives of who have been struggling with poverty. The government has identified
120,000 families whose lives are chaotic and troubled. These families have caused 9 billion
pounds damage. This is not a huge amount money in contrast to the effects of poverty on
children s lives. Because children s lives get ruined due to poverty and no amount of money can
fix that. The program which the government aimed to perform suggested that vulnerable parents
that need support must be identified and helped from the early days of their children s lives.
Children have the right to grow up in a supporting and loving atmosphere. Social Justice tries to
help society function better. The government admits that over the last decades has ignored the
roots of causes of poverty and this resulted in deepening social problems (GOV.UK, 2013). There
are some examples that demonstrate these social problems. One of these examples is Barry.

The American government should think and making hard decision before building the Keystone

decision? The project is the national interest that related to economics, environmental, national

happen the United States lands will be the one who get polluted the most, and they do not know is

What Bipolar I Disorder ( Bd )
Introduction When people are asked what bipolar I disorder (BD) is, responses often include,
Sometimes they re really normal and then they get super mad, drastic mood swings, they re
psychotic, one can be very happy and excited but can also experience depression, and the list is
endless. Often, individuals who suffer with BD are stigmatized and discriminated. The
following piece is part of a poem called You and Me written by Debbie Sesula, ...If you get angry
/You re considered upset/ If I get angry/ I m considered dangerous. /If you over react to
something/ You re sensitive/ If I over react to something/ I m out of control... BD is not well
understood by society and it is unfortunate that individuals who have this disorder often isolate
themselves and feel ashamed. Definition and Characteristics The essential feature of a manic
episode is a distinct period during which there is an abnormally, persistently elevated, expansive
irritable mood and persistently increased activity or energy that is present for most of the day,
nearly every day, for a period of at least one week (or any duration if hospitalization is necessary),
accompanied by at least three additional symptoms from Criterion B. If the mood is irritable rather
than elevated or expansive, at least four criterion B symptoms must be present, states the American

Theory of Gestalt Therapy
Theory of Gestalt Therapy
What is Gestalt Therapy? This is a question that has divided therapists for decades. Although Gestalt
Therapy is based on a set of techniques, it is ultimately the therapist own defined style that makes it
unique from the theatrical techniques of Fritz Perls to the one on one approach of Jim Simken.
According to G.M. Yontef (Awareness, Dialogue and Process Pg 203), Gestalt Therapyis: 1. a
bringing about of awareness 2. it is based on the I and Thou contact withdrawal process 3. its world
view is based on holism and field theory

Premature closure feels better that leaving it open, but since the need is still unmet, it will continue

Another aspect of contact is that contact itself is but the highlight of a contact withdrawal cycle ,
i.e. a cycle that occurs and reoccurs. Habitually, the therapist backs off and comes back again,
listening quietly without straining to figure everything out; information is given in a calm but
impersonal manner. It is important that the session itself develops a natural rhythm. Meaningful
contact cannot be attained or attempted every second. The client also needs to work hard to

doing all the work, than the client s needs may not be met or the therapist may be feeding into
their desire to be spoon fed. If on the other hand the client is doing much more of the work, then
the therapist may need to loosen up and give more of himself. Sometimes, the therapist may need to
have the client be still and quiet so that he can do the work.

Relationship Between Parenting And Child Rearing
TITLE: Parenting, Ethnicity and Race: What are the Relations?
INTRODUCTION
By the time one is finished reading this essay, the human population will have grown substantially
by the births of babies throughout the world (United States Census Bureau). Once a child is
brought into this world, it is up to their parents, guardians or caregivers to raise them in whatever
way they deem necessary, which varies from child to child. Moreover, the raceand ethnicity of
child bearing and child rearing is an area of research that I found very thought provoking within
this class. Child rearing is the raising and parenting of children; child bearing is the act of
producing or bringing forth children ( Dictionary.com ).
When looking into children and their births, it is insightful on the phenomenon and research on
sexual relations among different races and their relationships. Overall, I believe that race and
ethnicity relates specifically to child rearing and child bearing impacts children and how they are
raised.
ARGUMENT

is what most individuals think of as the pivotal and positive atmosphere to raise a happy, healthy

can create a negative atmosphere as children grow into adults. This can create a chain reaction of

Terry Teachout s Taking Sinatra Seriously
Surprisingly, despite his mentality of seeing himself as the next great singer, Frank had some
trouble singing at first. In his article, Taking Sinatra Seriously , Terry Teachout stated that Sinatra
s voice tended to sound a bit awkward, unaware, and uncomfortable in faster paced songs; it
would take around a decade for him to reach full vocal development (55). As a result, his friend
Hank Sanicola prompted Frank to take singing lessons. One of Sinatra s instructors was former
Metropolitan Opera singer, John Quinlan. Quinlan had him do vocal exercises as well as
pronunciation work: attempting to eliminate his Hoboken accent from songs. Fortunately, these
lessons did work to Frank s overall advantage; he felt much more confident with his singing,
despite his old friends mocking him for sounding so proper (Kaplan 53). Furthermore, while
working early in his career with band leader and skilled trombone player Tommy Dorsey, Frank
attempted to pick up more skills from this master of breath control. I used to watch Tommy s back,
his jacket, to see when he would breathe , Sinatra later admitted (Kaplan 105). Naturally, Frank
worked to improve his lung capacity: he did so apparently by swimming in pools for hours, holding
his breath underwater... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

events, which led to the failure and improper actions taken by General Motors. It will also critique
how the crisis was handled, describing what GM did well, how they failed the American... Show

On Jan. 15, 2014, Mary Barra becomes the new CEO of GM and the first woman to run a major
automaker. Two weeks later, the new CEO becomes aware of the ignition switch defect and starts
damage control. Finally, after over 10 years of finding the initial defect, GM issues a recall 2005
2007 Chevrolet Cobalt s and 2007 Pontiac G5s. In March 2014, GM recalls 1.55 million vans,
sedans and sport utility vehicles (Basu, 2014). In April 2014, General Motor hires Kenneth
Feinberg, an attorney specializing in corporate payouts, as a consultant to explore and evaluate
options in the automaker s response to families of the victims involved in the recall (Basu,
2014). In April 2014, GM adds ignition lock cylinders to its safety recall of 2.2 million older
model cars in the U.S. and in next month adds five more recalls of about 2.7 million vehicles in
the U.S (Basu, 2014). On May 16, 2014, the U.S. Government announces General Motors
Company will pay a record $35 million civil penalty after National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) determined the automaker delayed reporting the ignition switch defect
(Basu, 2014). After three more years of legal battles, as of June 2017, GM has agreed to settle
federal lawsuits with the people affected by the defective ignition switch, which was responsible
for 124 deaths and 275 injuries due to the faulty ignition switches (Owusu, 2014). Also GM had

TARA BURKE FIELD DAY # 1 11/27/12 CHOICE # 1 Revised Read Savage Inequalities by
Jonathan Kozol. Kozol examines the inequities in school financing between Urban and suburban
schools, Chapter 3 (2 points) In 1964, the author, Jonathan Kozol, is a young man who works as a
teacher. Like many others at the time, the grade school where he teaches is segregated (teaching
only non white students), understaffed, and in poor physical condition. Kozol... Show more content

Richer homeowners also get tax relief for paying their mortgages. Meanwhile, poor black areas
are dumping grounds for toxic waste and garbage, which benefit the wealthier citizens, but they
tend to be the only places poor non whites can afford to live. Low properrty values result in badly
funded, dangerous schools. Wealthier whites avoid these public schools and move to suburbs
where their property taxes go toward building elegant public schools. Trier school is an example. It
attracts a highly trained staff, and boasts an Olympic swimming pool as well as other luxuries. An
article about this suburban school brags that most of the students in it are white. Kozol says that
magnet schools (special public schools built for the most talented students) seem like a good idea,
but are also unfair. The inner city disadvantaged non white students usually don t provide head start
programs or educated parents who can help them push for admittance. Students of magnet schools
are mostly white. Disadvantaged students watch television and know they are being treated like
something less than human. This is savagely cruel. In the next area, New York, Kozol sees the
same pattern of filth, indifference and degradation. The difference between money spent in

  • 2. Comparing Plato s And Aristotle s Speculations Whether the situation involves a child and a parent, or a ruler and a peasant, the stipulation of power is in pivotal question. The act of governing another can go from as lenient as free range disregard to complete dominance. These ranges for imposing control changes the outcome of the allowed contribution in its citizens. Domination over another is never justified, despite Plato s and Aristotle s speculations, because it does not allow the fulfillment of the individualon a personal and State level. The pinnacle of an individual means they are able to be the most sound personmentally, physically, and emotionally onto others, themselves and the State. When they have attended to their personal needs, they can also effectively and accurately attend to others and issues bigger than themselves. The individual s fulfillment for themselves cannot be reached under complete control, because they are not the best person they can be when their wants and needs aren t addressed. Plato and Aristotle aim to outline a citizen that helps the State to run at its finest, but set their basis under the wrong conditions. Plato, however, doesn t regard the individual s wants and needs, only the wants and needs of the State. In his utopia, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ever since you and the boys had rescued Samandriel, he d taken to living with you guys in the bunker. Yes, y/n? He asked innocently. You held up a pair of bright pink panties that definitely weren t supposed to be that color. What s this? Samandriel looked confused. What do you mean? Badgers are one of the most well known animals in Britain; hence the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 was designed to protect them (Natural England). However, tuberculosis was discovered in badgers as a result of Mycobacterium bovis (Muirhead et al., 1974). Till this day, some argue that badgers are a significant source of infection for cattle, which raises a concern for the society (Krebs, 1997). Therefore, it raises the issue of whether trials to test the efficacy of badger culling in control of bovine tuberculosis should be permitted. Review Mycobacterium bovis not only causes bovine tuberculosis in badgers but also infects cattle and deer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The culling of badgers disrupts the structure of their social group, which leads to a widespread of tuberculosis as they move further away to establish new groups (Briggs, 2012). As a result, there is an increase in incidence outside areas where badgers were not culled. Consequently, people are relying on vaccinations and even the government in Devon is providing funds to farmers who are in areas of high risk (Jones, 2013). The vaccination project in Gloucestershire has been very successful and in one year it has already immunised 998 badgers. Additionally, improving biosecurity could decrease transmission by preventing badgers from entering farms and coming into contact with cattle (Briggs, 2012). Discussion Even though vaccinations are expensive and require a lot of effort, rather than immunising badgers, cattle would relatively cost less and still be successful in controlling bovine tuberculosis (Jones, 2013). However, at the moment the legislation of the European Union bans the vaccination of cattle because checking for infection in the animals would become challenging (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs). Farmers need a solution to the problem immediately and they cannot wait for ten years to abolish the ban as incidents in cattle herds are rising increasingly over the past few years (Briggs, 2012). Thus, culling badgers is the most effective method at present when considering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. What Are Cell Surface Carbohydrates Cell surface carbohydrates are carbohydrate chains that are bonded to lipids and proteins that are within the phospholipid bilayer of a cell. These are known as glycolipids and glycoproteins; they have carbohydrate chains protruding from them out of the cell membrane surface. They are the first molecules to be encountered and recognized by other cells, so they are used to identify the cell. Carbohydrates are used as the ligand component of glycoconjugates (glycoproteins and glycolipids) and their structure varies depending on the structure of the molecule it binds to, ranging from small saccharide units to very large polysaccharide chains. Although the carbohydrate chains are generally oligosaccharides and can either be straight or branched. Cell surface carbohydrates coat the exterior surfaces of cell membranes and extend from the phospholipid bilayer into the aqueous environment outside the cell presenting information rich binding sites and have the potential to carry necessary information to act as markers for cellular recognition. Decompetition is like competition, but it primarily promotes the worst attributes in athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.). Regardless, over the course of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold a neutral view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is inherently good either. The gameof jacksplayed today was the most pivotal activity in the shift of my opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of working individually, so one of us could triumph over the others, we worked together to find the best strategies and methods. Every time someone threw their handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best way to gather the jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and cheered when someone did the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and new; we used each other s perspectives to figure it out. During our first game, for instance, Amanda received zero points, and I only won ten. But, by game two, Amanda and I, through trial and error and the feedback from the others, sharpened our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was fairly happy with my success, ... For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater good shared by others. • 21. Coronary Collateral Circulation And Humans Are Often More... Studies looking at coronary collateral circulation in humans are typically more controversial. Skeptics have stated that collateral development is probably due to the progression of coronary artery disease rather than an effect of exercise training. In addition, direct measurement of collateral growth, typically through coronary angiographic techniques, is difficult and may have severe limitations due to low levels of resolution of vessels (Heaps et al., 2011). Small vessels involved in the coronary collateral system ( 100Ојm) are incredibly difficult to view angiographically, so the full magnitude of collateralization may not be assessed or may be drastically underestimated (Heaps et al., 2011; Belardinelli et al., 1998). An additional approach that studies have used to measure collateral circulation development is to measure the rate pressure product in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Increases in rate pressure product at the beginning of myocardial ischemia have been found and is potentially related to increased myocardial oxygen supply from collateral growth stimulation (Senti et al., 1998). After exercise training, coronary patients have also seen a 29% increase in coronary flow reserve in response to adenosine (Hambrecht et al., 1993). No. Does equality in the workplace have better results for our overall country s economic performance? Yes. Reaching gender equality is essential for work relations and work performance due to fairness. We all perform more efficiently at work when we feel we are being treated fairly. Equality is attained when we all are put in a position to have access to the same opportunities and receive the same recognition within our work environment. The objective of this equality is to reach equal pay for the same jobs performed by men and women. It is a fact that more women register and graduate from college than men, but still, men with the same education level and experience as women are paid more and receive better opportunities. According to the Congressional Digest, Gains have been made in some areas, research by GAO and others has shown that women s average pay has been, and remains, lower than that of men (2014, p.1). Considering education levels, women with graduate degrees earn just 69.1% of what men with graduate degrees earn, and those with bachelor degrees earn 71.4 % of men s salaries. During this analysis, the retail group peaked our interest because it represents a significant portion of the restatements that have occurred within the consumer discretionary industry. However, these restatements have significantly lowered from the years 2000 2015. We decided to delve into the matter further to try and determine why the retail industry has more restatements and why they have been decreasing in recent years. We wanted to narrow the retail industry into a niche categorical distinction: Brick and Mortar versus Online. To begin working towards creating a threshold for this distinction, we pulled data relating to fixed assets and total sales for companies within the retail industry. By utilizing the visualization software, we could see a significant divide in the sales divided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three most influential accounts we detected were revenue, inventory, and depreciation. We found that these accounts have an inverse relationship with restatement occurrence. We attribute this to numerous factors, but have specifically reasoned that stores have little incentive to manage their earnings when a steady increase is occurring, potentially resulting in lower restatements. We reasoned that the revenue, inventory, and depreciation accounts show similar trends because as a firm s revenue increases, it must invest in more inventory and fixed assets to continue operations at an efficient and effective level to meet consumer demand. This demonstrates the positive correlation between the three accounts. Another factor to attribute to the decline in restatements could be the implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act in 2002. Skellig, a novel by David Almond, is something rare; something that encapsulates the fleeting nature of childhood. Almond uses many different literary techniques to achieve this, and I will be focusing on and discussing three of the most prominent: imagination, belief and disbelief, throughout my essay. Using these themes as a base, Almond incorporates many controversial topics into the book, making a statement about his own beliefs and disbeliefs, and leaves the rest up to the reader s imagination. Imagination takes its hold in the reader s brain from page one, and continues to keep the readers mind on edge all the way through to the very last page. A true... Peer Review And Writing Style Essay When Research, Peer Review and Writing Style Meet Bringing new evidence based practice to the bedside involves a multi faceted approach involving research, peer review, and publication of new ideas. Research is necessary for the discovery of scientific advancement. Peer review is necessary to ensure the integrity of research findings prior to publication. Adherence to writing principles and style are necessary to convey research findings vetted by peer review. As BBC Bitesize 2017 describes, doing something wrong is different than committing a crime. Some criminologists believe that people commit crime because it is in their nature. It has been proved that some people are more likely to commit crime than others due to the circumstances that they grow up under. The government has identified 120,000 families whose lives are chaotic and troubled. These families have caused 9 billion pounds damage. This is not a huge amount money in contrast to the effects of poverty on children s lives. Because children s lives get ruined due to poverty and no amount of money can fix that. The program which the government aimed to perform suggested that vulnerable parents that need support must be identified and helped from the early days of their children s lives. Children have the right to grow up in a supporting and loving atmosphere. Social Justice tries to help society function better. The government admits that over the last decades has ignored the roots of causes of poverty and this resulted in deepening social problems (GOV.UK, 2013). There are some examples that demonstrate these social problems. One of these examples is Barry. Barry s father was a drug dependent and his mother was an alcoholic. Once a child is brought into this world, it is up to their parents, guardians or caregivers to raise them in whatever way they deem necessary, which varies from child to child. Moreover, the raceand ethnicity of child bearing and child rearing is an area of research that I found very thought provoking within this class. Child rearing is the raising and parenting of children; child bearing is the act of producing or bringing forth children ( Dictionary.com ). In his article, Taking Sinatra Seriously , Terry Teachout stated that Sinatra s voice tended to sound a bit awkward, unaware, and uncomfortable in faster paced songs; it would take around a decade for him to reach full vocal development (55). As a result, his friend Hank Sanicola prompted Frank to take singing lessons. One of Sinatra s instructors was former Metropolitan Opera singer, John Quinlan. Quinlan had him do vocal exercises as well as pronunciation work: attempting to eliminate his Hoboken accent from songs. Fortunately, these lessons did work to Frank s overall advantage; he felt much more confident with his singing, despite his old friends mocking him for sounding so proper (Kaplan 53). Furthermore, while working early in his career with band leader and skilled trombone player Tommy Dorsey, Frank attempted to pick up more skills from this master of breath control. I used to watch Tommy s back, his jacket, to see when he would breathe , Sinatra later admitted (Kaplan 105).
