2. Sunderland
culture bright
lights
Sunderland culture are co-operating with bright lights to try and bring
more of a cultural spark to Sunderland. The festival is supported by
Sunderland culture and the exhibition has been curated by the Celebrate
Different Collective, a group of young people aged 13-25 from across the
city who co-produce and run their own cultural events, work with artists
and learn new skills.
The mask making workshop is run by Autism In Mind, a group supporting
autistic adults without a learning disability in sunderland, South
Tyneside and Northumberland
in this project my aim is to supply people with an insight into
Sunderland culture.
Sunderland culture – bright lights campaign
Having evolved over the last 26 years, Bright Lights Youth Art
Exhibition, has been a platform showcasing young artists aged 11-19 at
Arts Centre Washington and over the last few years has been curated by
3. Target Audience
I am going to be targeting towards 16–24-year-olds.
Sunderland brights are trying to engage up to 36-year-olds.
I however would like to bring this bracket down as I really want to
engage and persuade a certain target audience.
To target a specific audience, I have to make sure that I am engaging
them with a subject they are interested in. according to my audience
surveys my TA agree that they enjoy music, documentaries, football gaming
and more. However I have a female dominated audience , and most of my
female responses include something to do with music artists or
instruments.
I would love to get my peers as involved with music as I am. There are
very few music venues in Sunderland it is very hard to make it into the
music industry coming from a place with a small music scene. Therefore
engaging an audience with this can highlight the culture of Sunderland
and hopefully expand the music scene with my short film.
4. My initial idea
My initial idea is to engage people in a short film
highlighting the music culture in Sunderland. I am going to do
this buy following the life of a girl over some time ,
demonstrating how music progresses through this time as she
discovers her love for instruments and wants to develop this
further. She realises that she wants to try writing songs which
them progresses to singing and playing instruments. I would
really like to show her love through music collections as well.
I will then include what it feels like to build up confidence
to perform at a local music venue. I will maybe end this on a
cliffhanger that finalises the short film as I really just want
to showcase how it feels to be an upcoming musician in
Sunderland and how there is support networks available as the
music scene is starting to grow in the area.
5. Inspiration
Taylor swift – all too well (short film )
https://youtu.be/tollGa3S0o8?si=AC9-T50qPs5jVAse
- all too well is a short film made to compliment
her song all too well . However, even though
produced for a music video the short film itself
is inspiring as it not only goes side by side
with her song it also has a beautiful and scary
story.
Starting off with a happy couple it shows the
challenges that come along with a relationship
and goes from a positive equilibrium, that puts
the watchers and listeners into a safe and happy
environment that soon turns sour showing the
arguments including domestic violence that
foresees into the new equilibrium showing change
within life and growth. The story is very well
matched however the cinematography is very
inspiring to me as other than the song it is a
6. Inspiration
Pink Floyd – the final cut ep short film
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C9TOqGTMyw
This production from pink Floyd includes
multiple clips that go hand in hand with
their album PINK FLOYD released in 1983. it
shoes a variety of clips from old movies to
personal clips.
This is an inspiration from me as the story
portrayed shows the beauty of old music. It
has a lot of edits in it. The
cinematography highlights lots of different
aspects of their music. It has sections
where the music stops to highlight certain
points in the movie. It is an inspiration
to me as it uses multiple clips to pursue a
vision.
7. Inspiration
After hours – the weeknd
- in this short music video film, the
weeknd explores themes of heartbreak,
loneliness self-loathing and regret.
This is all portrayed through the
angles and the colour of the scenes,
showing a deep red for anger and blue
for sadness. This all represents his
feelings. This is also done through
the music and the background breaks to
build a suspense promiscuity feeling.

Documentaries –
The moonage dream bowie
- this is a documentary based on the life
and experiences of David bowie and how he
rose to stardom. It shows the challenges
that he faced growing up and how it has
impacted him and his actions throughout his
life. IMBD state “"Moonage Daydream" is
David Bowie in celluloid form - artistic,
weird, and constantly shifting its identity
in a way that can only be described as
psychedelic. It is an overwhelmingly
cinematic experience, as pure a combination
of sight and sound as could ever be
