Curation involves discovering, organizing, and sharing relevant online content to create clarity amid information abundance. Effective curators add value by applying a human perspective to filter noise. This document provides examples of tools for curation, including social bookmarking sites, tags, bookmarklets, playlists, Pinterest, Scoop.it, and e-magazines. It also shares contact information for Joquetta "The Digital Diva" Johnson, a library media specialist who specializes in digital curation.

Why the social web is here to stay (and what to do about it)Mike Ellis
The social web (was "Web2.0"...) calls to human experience and emotion in a way which transcends the hype often associated with it. While the phrase "Web2.0" does a good job of associating certain services and approaches together, it also has a down-side, suggesting that any day now, a "Web3.0" will be along to replace this transient, fickle technology with something new.
This talk argues that the "social web" has a momentum which should be taken seriously -- more seriously than "just mere hype", particularly by content-rich organisations such as those involved with cultural content. It also examines some of the issues -- particularly around the perceived challenges to authority and "value" of cultural institutions and assets -- and asks how these can be overcome.

Resistance is Futile: The dynamics of the Science CollectiveJudy O'Connell
Educators are increasingly using new media and digital technologies to teach and engage their 21st century students. Reading, writing, gaming, trans-media, immersive worlds, augmented reality, and Web 3.0 are all part of the new digital frontiers. Whether it’s science or science fiction, Alice in Wonderland or Angry Birds, the dynamics of this new information ecology can transform science classroom experiences. Assimilate these ideas, tools and techniques into your ‘collective’ ~ Resistance is futile.
