This document discusses using information and communication technologies (ICT) to support multi-lingual clinical communication in South Africa. It proposes developing a mobile application that incorporates human language technologies like text-to-speech, automatic speech recognition, and text processing to provide clinical terminology course content in multiple South African languages. A previous study tested a similar app without these technologies to understand user preferences and the potential impact on vocabulary learning. Future work plans to conduct a user study of the full technology-enabled app, expand to additional languages, content areas, universities and application domains.
