Automated Insightful Drill-Down Recommendations for Learning Analytics Dashbo...Hassan Khosravi
The big data revolution is an exciting opportunity for universities, which typically have rich and complex digital data on their learners. It has motivated many universities around the world to invest in the development and implementation of learning analytics dashboards (LADs). These dashboards commonly make use of interactive visualisation widgets to assist educators in understanding and making informed decisions about the learning process. A common operation
in analytical dashboards is a ‘drill-down’, which in an educational setting allows users to explore the behaviour of sub-populations of learners by progressively adding filters. Nevertheless, drill-down challenges exist, which hamper the most effective use of the data, especially by users without a formal background in data analysis. Accordingly, in this paper, we address this problem by proposing an approach that recommends insightful drill-downs to LAD users. We present results from an application of our proposed approach using an existing LAD. A set of insightful drill-down criteria from a course with 875 students are explored and discussed.

Making the complex clear, turning difficult into intriguing, raising intellectual curiosity, supporting creative problem solving, posing authentic challenges, building effective scaffolds – contemporary e-learning goes beyond the latest tools and technologies. The special interest group “Designing, Developing, and Assessing E-Learning” aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to debate and collaborate on a variety of instructional design themes. The SIG promotes activities for future E-Learn conferences. This presentation summarizes the results of an online survey among ADD E-Learn members and promotes plans for E-Learn 2014. These plans include
1. Organizing 'ADD E-Learn Special Issue Roundtable': This informal meeting will focus on Special Issue contributions, joint writing/ research initiatives, project collaboration.
2. ADD E-Learn Symposium: Several members articulated their interest in a separate conference track for the SIG. To meet this need for a focused track, we will organize a symposium for AACE E-Learn 2014.
In addition, we have planned several activities during the conference/ at the Special Interest Group Meeting:
- ADD E-Learn Voices: Brief audio interviews with SIG members on their projects, ideas, research …
- ADD E-Learn Practice2Teach: Opportunities to recruit instructional design guest speakers for classes
- ADD E-Learn Focus Topics: Selection of 2-3 focus areas for collaboration in 2014/15
Other topics that will be discussed at the meeting include the launch of the SIG Website, the community's vision / mission statement as well as activities and leadership for 2014/15.

Analytics is a buzzword that encompasses the analysis and visualisation of big data. Current interest results from the growing access to data and the many software tools now available to analyse this data in Higher Education, through platforms such as Learning Management Systems. This seminar provides an overview of current applications and uses of learning analytics and how it can help institutions of learning better support their learners. The illustrative examples look at institutional and social media data that together provide rich insights into institutional, teaching and learning issues. A few simple ways to perform such analytics in a context of Higher Education will be introduced.

Availability studies estimate the proportion of items in a collection that library users can access. This traditional research method can help librarians find and fix the most significant access problems with electronic resources, and connect patrons with information through better collection development and acquisitions decisions.
To date, all electronic resource availability studies have been "simulated" studies, in which a librarian tests access to a sample of items. Simulated availability studies identify technical problems with electronic resources, but don't address how database interface design or insufficient library research skills could prevent a student from successfully obtaining a desired item.
This study represents the first known attempt at a "real" electronic resource availability study, in which recruited students generate and test the sample. It uses quantitative methods to estimate overall resource availability, and a cognitive walkthrough (a usability research method) to compare the way Redlands students actually retrieve full text against an ideal process articulated by Redlands librarians.
The study's conclusions can be used to benchmark studies of e-resource availability at other campuses, provide input into database interface design and improve library instruction concerning electronic resources.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
