Cells were first observed under a microscope by Robert Hooke in 1665 who coined the term "cell". Chromatin, chromosomes and chromatids make up the genetic material inside cells. Cells regulate all activity in living organisms and contain chromosomes which are responsible for heredity through structures like chromatids and the centromere.
