ICM envisions a world where every childbearing
woman has access to a midwife’s care for herself and
her newborn.

To strengthen Midwives Associations and to advance
the profession of midwifery globally by promoting
autonomous midwives as the most appropriate
caregivers for childbearing women & in keeping birth
normal, in order to enhance the reproductive health of

5. STANDING COMMITTEES
1. Education Standing Committee : This Committee
promotes the internation standardization of midwifery
education to support the development and expansion
high quality and effective undergraduate and post
graduate midwifery education programs. It also
oversees the production of the resources required to
support the standards and their effective
implementation internationally.
6. 2. Regulation Standing Committee-This
Committee focuses on the development and
support of regulatory systems. These regulatory
systems ensure midwifery praction defined,
regulation is in place, practice and education
standards are met, midsh are
registered/licensed, and midwifery practice is
accountable to the public/society.
7. 3. Research Standing Committee – This
Committee along with its Research Advisory
Network (RAN) provide ICM’s member
associations with up to date information on all
aspects of midwifery practice, education and
service. It plays a key role in the development of
the ICM Triennial Congresses. Research is the
foundation of midwifery’s Three Pillars and
ongoing education and research are the lifeblood
of any vibrant profession.
8. PARTNERS AND AFFILIATES:
The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM)
works closely with its Partners and Affiliates to
strengthen midwifery globally through
collaborative projects.This organization works
with Partners and Affiliates to improve maternal
and newborn health and also it secures women’s
rights and access to midwifery care before, during
and after childbirth.
