A Visual Analysis Essay
The painting The Night CafГ©, done in 1888 by Vincent van Gough, is an oil painting on a 28ВЅ
inch tall by 36Вј inch wide canvas. It depicts the inside of CafГ© de la Gare in Place, Lamartine.
There is a pool table in the middle, 4 green top dining tables on the right wall, and 2 green top
and 1 red top tables on the right. At the back table on the left a man and woman sit together, and
at the table beside theirs; a man sitting alone and hunched over. On the right side, two more
hunched over men are sharing the table closest to the viewer. All of the people in the painting
are in dark blues, browns, or reds except a man next to the pool table in a white suit. There are
four lamps hanging from the ceiling that seem to focus the light more on the pool table and the
man in the white suit, and less on the customers and tables that line the edges of the room. This
causes the floor around the pool table to be a brighter brown than the rest of the room. The shadow
caused by the pool table is dark, while the man standing beside the table is bright white, causing
strong contrast. Combined with the contrast between the green top of the pool table and the red...

The contrast between the red walls and green roof help to draw your attention to the back of the
room. The bottom third of the walls are brown which acts as a horizon for the indoor setting.
Under and around the pool table the implied lines from the boards on the floor guide you to the
vanishing point on the horizon with the help of the thick outline that is only on the pool table.
The vanishing point is used to lead your eyes to a door way in the back of the room with a half
open curtain in it. Inside the outline of the door way and curtain is what appears to be another
well lit room painted with a yellow haze and the slightly distorted shape of another door. This haze
shows the space between the viewer and the inside of the next

the Beatles breakup was one of the saddest moments in Rock and Roll history.
Who were the Beatles, some young people might ask to their parents. They would say the Beatles

Bob Greene s Short Story Cut
Being cut, especially at a young age, can diminish self esteem, lower determination, and stick
with that person forever. In the short story Cut , Bob Greene recalled his experience with not
making his seventh grade basketball team. After weeks of hard practice, Greene anxiously waited
to see his name on the team list, only to discover he d been cut. Greene turned into a hard worker,
completing more assignments and working more hours than needed. At the age of 16, now
successful lawyer Bob Graham transferred to a larger high school. There, he tried out for the
baseballteam, expecting to make it. The coach broke the news that Graham wasn t the athlete he
wanted on his team. For a short while, Graham s view of himself was poor, until he... Show more

This past summer, one of my friends faced this. Rather than being cut, Abby made our travel
soccer team. However, a couple weeks later, Abby admitted she felt like she didn t belong, and
sitting the bench only made her depression issues worse. She quit. I reconnected with her months
later, and, surprisingly, Abby exclaimed that following her voluntary dismissal, she applied for
a job at a local animal shelter, and was in the process of striving to be accepted into vet school at
Purdue. She also included that she had lost fifteen pounds, and was staying on a healthy diet. I
worried Abby would spiral downhill after quitting, but I was wrong all along. She had turned her
situation into an opportunity to discover her future, and determined what her state of mind and
physicality would become. Both of these girls have shown that even though they weren t, or didn
t feel, good enough, they turned it into a chance to build themselves into stronger people, and be
satisfied with their personal achievements. When someone gets told they aren t good enough, or
sense they aren t, it can tear down whatever self esteem they had. The short story Cut shows the
pain of rejection that has never subsided in businessmen. I witnessed two positive people in my
life go from down in the dumps to upbeat and confident. Although it might be negative at first,
looking back made these businessmen from Cut as well as my peers realize that being cut can

Children s Responsibilities For Children
Every adult who has children knows it is a challenging experience and extremely rewarding,
especially when the children grow to be responsible, independent, caring, productive adults and
parents in their own right. After helping raise my own children, being a professional martial arts
instructor since 1979, teaching thousands of children and helping other parents raise their children
(so they tell me), here are 10 keys I feel are important to raising children successfully.
1. Leadership
Kids need a leader, someone who is strong, responsible, caring and committed to their highest and
best good. What children do not need is to be the parent to their parents. Children do not need to
be buddies, pals or best friends with their parents until they, the children, are adults. Children are
children. They need leaders to lead, guide and direct them through their early life. Those leaders
are the parents who need to take a front row in raising their kids. For children to be successful in
life, they need a strong parental foundation, one that puts them before their parent s careers,
activities, relationships and jobs. Children should never be thought of as appendages to a parent s
life. Until the children are of legal age, the children are the parent s life. When this commitment is
given to children, it is a boon to their early development and later success as responsible and
independent adults.
2. Structure
Children need structure. They need foundational guidelines. They need to

Aristotle Virtue
Virtues dictate all systems of human morality. Aristotle s interpretation of virtue is found in Book II
of the Nicomachean Ethics, the man who possesses character excellence does the right thing, at the
right time, and in the right way. While this holds true, it leads to an ambiguous interpretation.
Aristotleunderstood virtueas a set of character traits that, once developed, will lead to an overall
good character. Core virtues such as respect, loyalty, and honesty make up the foundation of the
virtue theory of ethical thinking. By living an ethical life, a person must demonstrate moral
character traits. A virtuous person lives his life in a sweet spot called the golden mean of the two
extremes of excess and deficiency. Actions dictated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain Marty was a well known daredevil skier, who on multiple recorded incidents had flown
other Concord flights overweight. Flight 4590 was attempting to fly with 1790 pounds over
maximum structural weight, this was unlawful, but was not an outrageous risk. However, this
added weight caused the centre of gravity of the plane to be pushed dangerously far to the rear.
This change in the centre of gravity made the plane more likely to stall at lower speeds. It was
also proven that even in a takeoff with all four engines working normally, they were well beyond
the point where the testing and models had deemed safe. Additionally, as the fuel gushed from the
hole in the forward number five tank, the centre of gravity moved still further back. In no way was
Captain Marty courageous when risking the lives of his crew and passengers by approving the extra

Poverty Of South Carolina Is An Issue For All Citizens Essay
Poverty in South Carolina is an issue for all citizens. The issue is particularly acute if you are a
citizen living in poverty, but the issue is of critical importance to those citizens that must support
those areas stricken by persistent poverty. Unbeknownst to many South Carolinians is the persistent
povertycorridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others long I95. Allendale
County stands out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address multigenerational
poverty. This paper deals with Allendale County poverty after offering insight into poverty in
general within South Carolina.
Persistent Poverty in South Carolina
Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined
poverty threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 60s
to benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for
inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels
annually. Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family
has insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the
established poverty amount is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income as
defined by the federal rules can include cash and cash welfare assistance, but excludes any in kind
welfare assistance. There are restrictions a few other

Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Atonement with the Nazi Past Essay
Rainer Werner Fassbinder was arguably one of the greatest German directors after World War II.
During his fifteen year career, Fassbinder directed and produced among his other film works 40
full length films. Fassbinder was born in a small Bavarian town, Bad Wörishofen, on May 31,
1945, and died presumably of a drug overdose at the young age of 37 on June 10, 1982. He was
the most prominent German film director, actor and screenwriter in the New German Cinema. He
continued the tradition of great German movies, and dealt with the German Nazi past, the average
person s involvement in the dictatorship and the tendency to suppress the memory of those years
after World War II. The political reality and hard times in the 1920 s helped with

Many directors and actors claimed that they were not involved with the Nazi regime and just did
their work in films, such as Leni Riefenstahl who failed to examine her role critically in the Nazi
regime. Some actors had a difficult time to gain employment for a short while, such as Heinz
RГјhmann, but he achieved success again, as did many actors who were prosperous in the postwar
years in the mostly German market again ( Heinz Ruehmann ). The movies in the 1950 s continued
the tradition of entertainment and many movies were made for pure entertainment of the masses
that wanted to escape their day to day lives. With the occurrence of the economic miracle in the
Ludwig Erhard era, people were busy accumulating wealth yet again and tended to ignore the recent
Nazi past ( It s now Chancellor Erhard ). This premise is what Fassbinder attempted to explore with
his movies, the refusal to deal with the past critically and the concentration on accumulation of
wealth and prosperity, often at the expense of emotional engagement with the fellow humans.
Rainer Werner Fassbinderwas born at the end of the war and grew up in the Wirtschaftswunder
(=economic miracle) in West Germanys conservative Bavaria. Coming from the theater, he was an
accomplished actor and started to direct his first low budget movie Love is Colder than Death in
1969 (Smith). Rainer Werner Fassbinder s work includes film and television, theater, radio plays
and essay writing (Smith).

Ralph s Savagery
Without civilization, there is savagery. Without savagery, there is civilization. Apart, these two
traits are opposites. Together, however, makes people who they are human. In the Lord of the
Flies by William Golding, an airplane crashes on a deserted island and the only inhabitants are
young boys, all under the age of 12. One child, Ralph, takes the position of the leader to gain
control over the savage and lost youths, only to be betrayed, which leads to some troubling
conflicts. Ralph s actions and responses show that there is always a bit of savagery with
civilization in humans. Ralph uses a conchshell, which symbolizes authority, to establish order. As

all humans. Ordinarily, people view one another as sophisticated or crazy. Due to this discovery

does Ralph. Through Ralph, the author represented an adult or adolescent that is found today, in
order, yet can get out of hand quickly. The universal theme is that there is no perfectly elegant or

death as seen in the lyrics of Empires of Loneliness that describe the last moments of a man who
has sunken into deep despair. Introduced in the theme of loss, hell connotes negative feelings
such as pain, anxiety, and fear, but also love. Love can be destructive and obsessive passion as
seen in the following four examples. In lyrics of With You Came the Whole of the World s Tears
, 10 Silver Bullets , Silhouettes , and Abandoned by the Light portray love as a feeling that
causes despair, whereas in the lyrics of Empires of Loneliness we see the last moments of a man in
deep despair, however the reason behind his despair is kept hidden.
The first example of despair comes from With You Came the Whole of the World s Tears . The
lyrics are written from the first person viewpoint and portray the agony and despair of the narrator
who has fallen in love but for some reason is separated from his lover. In the beginning, the
narrator is begging Saint Peter to save him by sending him to hell. He is convinced that that is

mortals. They are just the worms of the earth . 10 Silver Bullets seems to continue the story seen

desiring to be united with his lost love object. He begged to be send to Hell and in 10 Silver Bullets

Echo Defense, By Edward Abbey
In Echo Defense by Edward Abbey, the author highlights a synopsis by indicated that in the event,
an individual family is at risk and threatens by an unknown person that the subject proceed to loot
his or her home. Any reasonable individual has the responsibility and every right to protect his or
her family by any necessary means. The writer pointed out the American wildernessis under such

As such, the lack of determination to preserve natural resources has enormously affected the
environment, precisely animals and other life sources; for instance, minerals, forest, and fertile land
that frequently occurs more often than not for economic gains. This is a situation that has been
forgotten and ignored by public and elected officials due to profit and their reelection campaign

are more focus on short term profit instead of the damaged that are being done and the long term
impact on the environment. The wilderness is under assault and is being diminished due to lack of
governmental oversight. Another example in The Call of the Wild poem by Gary Snyder, the

Changing A Little At A Time
Chapter 3: Changing a Little at a Time (Make a Difference)
If you won a million dollars what would you do? This is a common question people often ask.
The common response is going on vacation, buy a nice car, etc. But we often hear the response of
giving to charity and making a difference in the world. I am the same way. If I had a million dollars
I would want to make a difference in the world and give a lot of it to charity. The reality of me
winning a million dollars is extremely slim. However, I can still accomplish my goal, to make a
difference, no matter how much money I have. I have decided that in my own community I can
make a difference with those in poverty, disabilities, and other issues that may arise.

in Costa Rica giving to their community. My first goal on my bucket list was about to get
crossed off. And then I met a handsome young man that swept me off my feet. I was in a big
dilemma. I could either spend four months in Costa Rica and accomplish my dream of making a
difference in a foreign country, or I could get married to the man of my dreams. It was a very
hard decision to make. It brought me many sleepless nights, and in the end, I knew I needed to
marry this boy and use the money I had saved up for Costa Rica to help with wedding and future
plans. It was devastating. But it was eye opening. From that moment on, I knew I didn t need to go

make just as big of a difference. There are children here who don t have shoes to wear or food to

King Solomon Chapter 1
The first sixteen chapters of 2 Chronicles open with the feats of King Solomon, the figure who
dominates the first nine chapters of the reading. The narrative starts off with Solomon already
firmly established, not accounting the struggle it took him to get to this position of favor. This
favor is consummated in chapter 1 when the Lord accepts Solomon s offerings and grants his
request for wisdom. This wisdom results in even more favor as chapter one ends by summarizing
the material wealth the kingdom accumulates. The second chapter immediately dives into Solomon
s preparations to build the Temple by accounting how many people were involved in the work and
how a treaty was formed with the king of Tyre for assistance. Chapter Three describes... Show more

Chapter ten begins with the revolt of Rehoboam s reign. Israel rebels against the house of David
when Rehoboam chooses to disregard the elders who had served Solomon and instead enforces a
stricter rule on the people. Although the split between Israel and Judah is not explicitly made
official, chapter 11 foreshadows the split as it profiles the emergence of a rival leader in the form
of Jeroboam. The chapter talks about how Rehoboam gains power through building up his family
and building up cities in preparation for fighting against the rest of Israel. Rehoboam abandons
the law of the Lord and is attacked by the king of Egypt. God had originally intended to use
Egypt to completely destroy Israel, but since the people humbled themselves, Egypt took the
treasures in the Temple and subjected the people to servanthood. Rehoboam continued to reign
and faced continual warfare with Jeroboam, the king of Israel. Chapter 13 talks about how his
son Abijah succeeded him as the king of Judah. Abijah inherited the animosity with Jeroboam as
chapter 13 narrates a fierce battle in which Abijah wins because Judah cried out to the Lord.
Judah saw a time of good fortune as the son who succeeded Abijah, Asa, did what was right in
the eyes of the Lord. After ten years of peace and prosperity, Asa s army defeated Cushite forces
in a feat that was clearly the work of the Lord. In Chapter 15 the Lord spoke to Asa through
Azariah to encourage him to keep seeking the Lord, so Asa initiated a series of major reforms to
reduce the pagan cultures in Judah. However, in chapter 16 Asa makes an alliance with the king
of Aram to retaliate against Baasha king of Israel. God was angered that Asa did not look to the
Lord for help first. Asa was angered at this messenger, so he sent the messenger to prison and
brutally oppressed some of the people. Asa stopped seeking the Lord and was punished with a

The Art of Digital Animation
Norman McLaren said, Animation is not the art of drawings that move but the art of movements
that are drawn. To be a digital animator, independence and social skills are needed. Strong design
skills and computer savvy will be key. (Clark 185) To be successful or to even get a job the
animator needs a proper foundation. Having social skills, years of experience, and even a degree
(not often) are needed to do so. The long hours can be fun or enjoyable in the beginning seeing as
the animatoris doing what they love but eventually, they will be exhausted and with deadlines they
can screw their self over without being prepared. Being educated in the field is highly suggested,
to understanding of color, form, shape, dynamics, and so on is needed. However, the only way the
animator can truly learn is through experience, actual practice. Some people look to be apprentices
to other animator and learn through being in that type of environment. Being a digital animator has
it s pros, cons, is full of history, and has a simple method of getting into.
Digital animation is a vital piece in the entertainment industry today. Talented artists from all over
get into the field to create amazing works of art. An animator produces multiple images that are
referred to as frames. These frames when compiled in sequence create a moving picture known as
animation. They draw by hand and use computers to create the large series of pictures that, when

He was a middle child with an older brother, Achille, and a younger sister, Caroline (Haig). The
siblings created a loving environment, despite the fact that they was raised in a hospital (Haig).
After growing up with a father who was a doctor, he grew accustomed to the reality of death.
Throughout school, he read classic novels, which he enjoyed rewriting as scripts to perform with
his siblings and friends (Haig). Eventually, Flaubert enrolled as a law student in 1841 to please
his father, but later quit to write. Existentialist ideas appear in his life as he finds his meaning of
life in literature and science. This type of thinking is found in his book Madame Bovary. Emma fills
her life with whatever desire she feels, trying to find a purpose. Existentialism claims that
humans want purpose in life, found by following desire. Flaubert also developed as a
perfectionist while his schooling continued. Even though he did not enjoy his studies in law
school, he worked hard and achieved scholarly awards for being best in his class during his first
year (Haig). However, he failed his second year exams and began to write Education Sentimentale.
When he started his writing career, perfectionism took over the way he wrote. La Tentation de
Saint Antoine took Flaubert thirty years to perfect, which he considered his masterpiece (Murray
Miller). Flaubert s obsession with perfection was evidence of how serious he took his work. His
dedication and existentialist way of living contributed to his lifestyle and success as an

Compare And Contrast Romanticism And Transcendentalism
Thoreau Investigation
Literature is categorized into eras based on the characteristics of the text along with when the text
was written. These eras took place chronologically as follows: Medieval, Renaissance,
Enlightenment, Romantic, Transcendental, Victorian, Realism, Naturalism, Existentialism,
Modernism, and Post Modernism. Each era had its own themes, though some themes overlapped
into succeeding eras. Throughout the centuries, literature has played an important role in the
shaping of nations, whether by speeches written for kings, books published by gentlemen, epics
recorded anonymously, or poems penned by slaves. Literature is the key to understanding humanity,

Another close friend of Thoreau s was the author Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson was already an
established author when the two became friends, and acted as a mentor to Thoreau s writing. The
pair shared a passion for nature. Emerson shaped much of Thoreau s style; however, while Emerson
was most arguably a transcendentalist author, Thoreau s writing contained the characteristics of
both transcendentalism and romanticism, with a particular emphasis on the latter.
Nature is a dominant theme in Romantic literature. Thoreau s poem on friendship uses an extended
metaphor comparing love and friendship to each other as well as nature. The speaker compares
friends to two sturdy oaks (Thoreau). He is saying that while they may grow apart, their roots are
forever intertwined, keeping them strong together. He says that the oaks will withstand the wind
and tide. Thoreau uses nature to describe an abstract concept in a concrete way.
Romantic literature is often focused on human emotion, as shown in this stanza: I fain would ask
my friend how it can be,

Comparison Of Soccer Balls
Background
Although a soccer ball may look like a sphere is not a real sphere. When you look closely at the
actual ball you will see that it is polyhedron made of different shapes. A polyhedron is a three
dimensional object composed of flat polygon sides typically connected at the edges (Wolfram
1999). The most common shape of modern soccer balls is called a truncated icosahedron.
Icosahedron is a shape made up of 20 triangles. To create a more round object the icosahedron is
truncated. Here, truncated applies to cutting off the edges which makes the icosahedron look more
round ( Icosahedron, 2014). The truncated icosahedron has 32 total faces including 12 regular
pentagons and 20 regular hexagons with 90 edges and 60 vertices ( Truncated ... Show more content

Check that the lengths of all the lines is 5 cm and that the angles are all 108Вє. Carefully cut out
the regular pentagon.
12) Now repeat the previous steps 11 more times to create the 12 regular pentagons. Always check
that the compass and lines are 5 cm. B) Create a regular hexagon
To draw a regular hexagon we followed the instructions provided online (Hartley, 2013).
1) Set the radius of the compass to 5 cm. It is critical that it stays at this length. Throughout the
process check that the length stays at 5 cm.
2) Draw a line 5 cm long and label the points A and B (.
3) Draw 2 small arcs centered at point A and point B towards the center of the line AB. Label the
point where the two arcs cross as point 1. This is the center of the regular hexagon and the vertices
of the hexagon will be on a circle centered at this point.
4) Initially draw a full circle centered at point 1. In future steps you only need to draw arcs near
where the vertices occur.
5) Using point B as the center, draw a short arc that crosses the circle. Label the point of

Beauty And Appearance In Hedda Gabler And Thea Lovborg
In the play Hedda Gabler, beauty and appearances as they relate to social class are important
themes that impact the characters, specifically the women. The two main women in the play;
Hedda Gabler and Thea Lovborg are both figures of beauty, physically and morally, and contrast
with each other creating conflict between them. This brings up the question: how does physical
appearance connect to moral appearance in women in Hedda Gabler? Physical appearance and
moral character are very different and can shape the role of a character in society. Hedda is seen
as more physically appealing, as said by Tesman in the play, and Thea is presented as more
morally appealing. Physical appearance is more often noted by the men in the play than moral
character, because the proof of having moral appearance is through how the women treat each
other. The women in Hedda Gabler display different forms of beauty, such as physical and moral
appearance that are connected to the other characters identification in the play.
Beauty is a combination of qualities in a human being, whether it is internal or external. Internal
beauty could be represented as moral appearance, and external beauty is physical appearance.
Hedda in the play displays beauty in many ways, but mainly physically. This means she is
appealing to the eye and has nice characteristics making her viewed as very pretty in society. The
men in the play are responsible for the identification of who is physically or morally attractive.

How Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons
In the story, Dealing With Dragons, Patricia Wrede tells the tale of an improper princess who
ignores the social norms of her day. In the fictional story set in Medieval times, a princess takes
advice from a frog to run away and her journey has many adventures in it. Cimorene is justified
in ignoring expected social norms of the day because it benefitted her life but some people may
disagree. First, Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day. All in all,
Linderwall was a very prosperous and pleasant place, Cimorene hated it. (Wrede,1). This is
important because Cimorene wants to be normal and not treated so royal. This also is important
because it is the beginning of how she thinks about running away. Boring, I want to do things,
not sit around all day and listen to the court minstrel make up songs about how brave Daddy is
and how lovely his wife and daughters are. (Wrede, 5). This shows that Cimorene wants freedom
and fun. She is the type of princess who likes to explore, so living with dragons could be a change.
Overall, Cimorene would be better living a happier life outside of Linderwall. When she ignores
her duty of being a proper princess it is shown she is justified because a princess does the... Show

Abstract: Steganography is a kind of secret communication method used to hide secret data in
some digital media such as images, audio etc. Cryptography and watermarking are other similar
techniques. Data is secured using these methods, but the fact that data is present somewhere gives
us a specific target, whereas sole purpose of steganography is that none must know there is some
hidden data in the file. So, steganography easily has upper hand over cryptography and
watermarking. Steganography can use almost all kinds of media present over internet to transmit
secret data. In this paper, we review some audio steganography techniques, their algorithms and
some challenges faced in their design and implementation. We will look in detail some modified
techniques for audio steganography. Also, we look at the problems faced with using mp3files as
cover media.

The Human Resource (HR) department manages the tangible indirect reward to employees. The
Benefits that an employer provides to their employees are ones needed to provide the motivation
to retain their employment and provide a positive return on investment. With the rising cost of
health care, companies are relying on their HR department to provide benefits that will help in
lowering the cost associated with older workers. Employers have found one benefit that has
provided the greatest return on their investment as it addresses the rising cost of health care,
absenteeism, and turnover rate of employees. This paper will analyze HR s management of the
benefit package and identify the benefit that has provided a substantial gain for the employee and
employer. Employers have software and computer systems that have life cycles and equipment such
as machinery, trucks, tools, and other accessories that have maintenance schedules. These programs
are used to help prolong and ensure that equipment is functioning and operating properly for the

What Are The Similarities Between The Giver And The Giver
Dragons, witches, princesses, and knights. These are the imaginary friends in many
children s lives. For young adults, those fairy tale characters give way to darker characters and
more realistic situations. However, what do they all have in common? They live in stories.
Two stories that are interesting are The Giver by Lois Lowry and The Scarlet Ibis by James
Hurst. The protagonist in The Giver is Jonas, who has taken on a role of being the new Giver. He
receives memories from the past, through the old Giver, to help their futuristic community make
decisions. Whereas, the main character in The Scarlet Ibis is Brother. He has a physically

Doodle learn to walk. Doodle told them it was I who had taught him how to walk (Hurst). It
took a lot of perseverance to teach Doodle to walk because Doodle has a heart disease that

What Is The Role Of Segregation In African American Society
After slavery got abolished people that were white had opinions of free and voting African
Americans. Few accepted them as equal and free. Although some white Americans welcomed them,
others used people s ignorance, racism, and self interest to sustain and spread racial divisions.
Hence the African Americans were treated as a second citizen and kept to a lower level. The

The Problem Of Criminal Justice System
Since the dawn of man crime has been a problem. Even though most people have some basic
sense of what is right and what is wrong, crime still occurs. All the way back to the ancient code of
Hammurabi man has tried to understand, classify, and appropriately punish crime. The bible itself
includes a detailed set of rules, or commandments, about what was legal and what wasn t. There are
many ideas and schools of thought that surround the idea of criminal justice. Initially the main goals
of these schools of thought were to classify and punish crimes, however in the recent past we are
seeing a shift toward the deterrence and prevention of crime. Early classical, biological, and
psychological theories helped shape what is today s criminal justice system.
One of the earliest theories that attempted to explain the cause of crime is classical theory. In 1764,
Cesare Beccaria published his Essay on Crimes and Punishments. The book, which contained
Beccaria s thoughts and observations about the criminal justice system, was important because it
was the first of its time to contain thoughts about the philosophy of punishment. According to
classical theory, individuals have the ability to exercise free will and due to this should be held
responsible for their actions. Crime is a result of rational decision making where the criminal must
decide if the possible punishment for the crime is worth the potential gain. Beccaria stated that
crimes needed fitting punishments to act as a

Ranked queue in League of Legends provides competitive players an arena in which they can
test and hone their skills against other like minded opponents and see how skilled they are
relative to the rest of their region and fellow gamers. It is a great environment for players who
thrive in a competitive atmosphere and players of all ranks receive some sort of reward, with
larger rewards earned the higher one s rank is. The most competitive players, who are often the
highest ranked, earn prizes often in cash, gaming hardware worth a significant amount of money or
in game currency, glory and possibly even a career. Unfortunately, there are a good amount of
individuals that wish to bypass the trials of ranked play and attain rewards that they themselves
cannot earn. As in any competitive environment, cheaters will inevitably exist and League of

The Values Of Islam In The United States
In recent years, Muslims and Arab Americans have become hot topics of conversation in politics
and everyday life. Terrorist attacks and other cruel acts committed by individuals and groups who
claim Islam have become quite frequent in the United States and across the globe, even in countries
where Islam is the dominant faith. These acts have resulted in many people becoming cautious,
fearful, and prejudiced against all Muslims and Arabs. Many of these judgements are preconceived
and based off of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions about the Islamic faith. In reality,
Islamand Christianityare not so different; many of the values of Christians and Muslims actually
coincide. Both Christians and Muslims believe in one true god, although Muslims use the Arabic
word, Allah . There has been much debate over whether Allah is the same God that Christians
believe in and follow. Some believe that it is the same God, while others disagree. Regardless, both
follow one true God rather than many deities, as other religions do. Although both groups
acknowledge the life of Jesus, Muslims believe Jesus to have been a simple prophet and not the
son of God. This is arguably the Muslims and Christians also greatly value modesty, to different

about ADHD problems at a very young age can help at children who have trouble keeping friends,
and trouble in school. For example, Perri Klass, journalist for the New York Times, shares that
when first treating a preschooler with ADHD it would be beneficial for them to do behavioral
therapy first, and medication last. Thus, this point proves that medication is necessary, but is not
the first step when treating a child. Secondly, nine percent of American children between the ages
of four and eighteen are affected by ADHD. For instance, Susan Pinker, journalist for the Wall
Street Journal, reports that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common and
most misunderstood disease. Therefore, this confirms that some people may have it, and others
may not. Thirdly, do children grow out of ADHD when they are a child? To illustrate, Susan Pinker,
tells that the statement is a myth. The older you get, you are more likely to think about life
consequences rather than when you were a child. Consequently, this information shows that
children with ADHD are proven to make worse life decisions, rather than a normal child. For all
these reasons, medication is necessary to control the

Edward Malt s The Lindisfarne Gospels
A medieval minister takes up a plume pen, designed from a goose quill, and plunges it into a
rich, dark ink produced using ash. Situated on a wooden seat in the scriptorium of Lindisfarne, an
island off the shore of Northumberland in England, he gazes hard at the words from a
composition made in Italy. This book is his model, a bound book, produced using sheets of paper
or material, the codex, from which he is to duplicate the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John. For about the following six years, he will duplicate this Latin.
The Lindisfarne Gospels, a standout amongst the greatest compositions of the early medieval times,
was composed and enhanced toward the end of the seventh century by the monk Eadfrith, who got
to be Bishop of Lindisfarne in 698 and passed on in 721. Its unique calfskin tying, was made by
Ethelwald, who succeeded Eadfrith as leader, and was enriched with gems and valuable metals later
in the eighth century by Billfrith the Anchorite. Today the composition is still bound in silver and
gems, in spreads made in 1852 to the detriment of Edward Maltby, bishop of Durham. The
configuration depends on themes drawn from the enrichment of the composition itself.

The Lindisfarne Gospels, a gospel book, is a spectacular example of Insular or Hiberno Saxon
art. It was created during a time of devastating invasions and political upheavals. Monks read from
it during rituals at their Lindisfarne Convent on Holy Island, a Christian group that defended the
sanctum of St Cuthbert, a cleric who passed on in 687 and whose relics were thought to have
corrective and supernatural occurrence working forces. The original copy was utilized for stately
purposes to advance and commend the Christian religion and the expression of

Physical Fitness Program Essay
PHYSICAL READINESS PROGRAM CHANGES. NAVADMIN 178/15 announced changes to
the Physical Readiness Program (PRP). To assess an individual Sailors health and mission
readiness, Physical Fitness Assessments (PFAs) are being redesigned. The current PFA model
enforces maximum body fat percentages and minimum physical readiness scores, but falls short on
evaluating a Sailors overall health, does not adequately reflect the challenges unique to sea duty,
and the increasingly technical nature of sea duty positions. The PRP changes will create balance
between physical readiness and health. In the long term, the Navy will move away from PFA
testing as a calculation of Body Composition Assessments (BCAs) maximums and Physical

OPERATIONS SECURITY (OPSEC) DID YOU KNOW? A U.S. Government official on
sensitive travel to Iraq created a security risk for himself and others by tweeting his location and
activities every few hours. A family on vacation kept friends up to date via online profiles; their
home was burglarized while they were away. New computer and Trojan viruses that successfully
target information on Social Networking Sites (SNSs) are on the rise. Some foreign investors,
including government and commercial entities known to be involved with organized criminal
activity, own large stakes in certain SNSs. Information in SNS profiles has led to people losing
job offers, getting fired, and being arrested. SNSs have become a haven for identity thieves and
con artists trying to use your information against you. Several kidnapping, rape and murder cases
were linked to SNSs where the victims first connected with their attackers. Over 90,000 registered
sex offenders were removed from one popular SNS only because they used their real names.

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever Disease
Question and Evidence
What is the specific microbiology for the Rocky Mountain spotted fever disease? The foreground
information presented in the single study research article, Targeted Knockout of the Rickettsia
rickettsii OmpA Surface Antigen Does Not Diminish Virulence in a Mammalian Model System will
facilitate answering that question.
Findings/Answers to Question Those diagnosed with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, the most
severe type of spotted fever, have the rickettsia rickettsii bacterium to thank. This gram negative
obligate intracellular pathogen has varying levels of virulence, from avirulent to highly virulent,
and thus the severity of the disease differs among individuals. Highly virulent strains include the
Sheila Smith strain and an avirulent strain is the Iowa strain. Despite their virulence, various strains
of the rickettsia rickettsii pathogen have the potential to be transmitted to humans by arthropod
vectors, like ticks. The article also notes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
rOmpA and rOmpA proteins are found across various strains of rickettsia rickettsii bacteriaand play
a role in pathogenesis through adhesion and invasion. It is noted that due to a premature stop
codon, rOmpA is not produced in the avirulent strains of the rickettsia rickettsii bacteria and thus, it
is thought that OmpA may play a role in virulence. This hypothesis was tested by inserting an
isogenic ompA mutant to create a premature stop codon into a guinea pig infected with the highly
virulent Shelia Smith strain. It was evident that this did not affect the duration or severity of illness
versus the control guinea pig. From these findings it was concluded, and as the title of the article
states, the rickettsia rickettsii OmpA surface antigen does not diminish virulence in a mammalian

My Dreams Of The American Dream
The wide field, brimmed primarily with yellow, sprouting, lush, wild flowers and tall green
grass, swayed gently in the crisp breeze. Deep within an abundance of towering pine trees, where
the bluebirds chirped and the frogs croaked, babbled a crooked creek. The air was filled with the
smell of moist bark and sweet blossoms, the sound of bees buzzing, and the feeling of serenity. I
had lived in my very own oasis where all of my childhooddreams were born. I dreamed of all my
firsts , my first kiss, my first love, my first high school dance, my first varsity soccer game in the
stadium under the lights, my first day as a college student in a foreign city, my first paycheck as an
employee, and countless more. My siblings and I staged and acted out various versions of the
perfect little family with the house located in the countryside surrounded by the white picket fence
to complete the stereotypical American Dream. My imagination was sparked by this magical
sanctuary where I led my siblings in the pursuit of our hopes and dreams for a future that now in
retrospect seemed untouchable.
Where every day brought another game and every hour brought another challenge, I was the queen
and I could achieve anything and conquer the world. I was unbeatable, the strongest, the fastest and
the bravest. On certain days our old oak tree would transform into a mighty, pirate ship reeking of
saltwater and seaweed, sailing the Indian Ocean and I would lead us to find buried treasures fighting

Persuasive Essay On Domestic Policy
It s 2036 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. College students have crowded into the bars on Dickson
Street to watch Senator Donald Trump Jr. faces off against Governor Chelsea Clinton for a
presidential debate. The topic of this debate: Domestic Policy. The two candidates shake hands,
wave to the crowd, and take their place behind their respective podiums. Megyn Kelly reaches for
the microphone and asks, Mr. Trump, since the beginning of automated driving in 2025, nearly 5
million Americans in the professional driving industry have lost their jobs. How will your
administration help transition these workers to new industries? Ok, back to 2016. While the
candidates in this future America may be different, the issue I am describing is not far fetched....

Compare this to the 36 seconds for a ride with an average price of $4.00 that NYC Uber
passengers currently enjoy. Additionally, consider that it is already more cost effective to use a
ride sharing service rather own a car if you live in a city and drive less than 10,000 miles a year.
This means that as automation advances, ride sharing will increasingly be a cheaper and more
attractive option and personal vehicles will greatly diminish. The future of transportation could
conceivably be large fleets of autonomous vehicles serving as the central mode of transportation.
Now, consider how automation will affect shipping and the truck driving industry. There are 3.5
million truck drivers in the United States according to the American Trucker Association. Last
May, the first self driving truck had a successful test in Nevada. This truck was built by a a
company called Freightliner, which has said that their trucks are beginning a 10 year testing phase
before determining whether the technology is ready for widespread adoption. These drivers make

Radiology Department Case Study
As the administrator of the Radiology Department, I am not only in charge of managing day to
day operations, but also have to develop the capital budget. Upon developing the capital budget, it
was decided that the budget for the fiscal year would be one million dollars. As well as
developing the budget, the task falls upon me to decide where the money will be allocated. Within
an organization there are several budgets that arise such as, an expense budget, a revenue budget,
and the one at hand, the capital budget. Unlike other budgets, the capital budget is one where one
has to select long term assets, whose useful life is greater than one year... items typically

department, as well as the MRI department. Being placed in charge of making this decision, I now
face the challenge of having to decide which departments request will be approved. Approving both
requests would exceed the capital budget, due to the fact that both requests individually cost eight
hundred thousand dollars. In order to come to a decision, as an administrator it is critical that I...

Equality In Early Generations In The United States
Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many
things to accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning
and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as
equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During
this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political
pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. In earlier generations, equality
was not a topic that was very popular. If you were born into a poor family, chances are that you
yourself were going to fall into that blood life for decades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice
among the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and
not letting me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is,
they are essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we
wouldn t put up a fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once
considered public . The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know
someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon
as someone with no rights. In conclusion the equality of earlier generations was really never
established until people began to rebel and make it noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if
the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public uses of everything that was once common.
Finally, with the division of social classes would have change if at the beginning of time there
wasn t any one person in control and corrupt, using their power in their

It depicts the inside of CafГ© de la Gare in Place, Lamartine. There is a pool table in the middle, 4 green top dining tables on the right wall, and 2 green top and 1 red top tables on the right. At the back table on the left a man and woman sit together, and at the table beside theirs; a man sitting alone and hunched over. On the right side, two more hunched over men are sharing the table closest to the viewer. All of the people in the painting are in dark blues, browns, or reds except a man next to the pool table in a white suit. There are four lamps hanging from the ceiling that seem to focus the light more on the pool table and the man in the white suit, and less on the customers and tables that line the edges of the room. This causes the floor around the pool table to be a brighter brown than the rest of the room. The shadow caused by the pool table is dark, while the man standing beside the table is bright white, causing strong contrast. I reconnected with her months later, and, surprisingly, Abby exclaimed that following her voluntary dismissal, she applied for a job at a local animal shelter, and was in the process of striving to be accepted into vet school at Purdue. She also included that she had lost fifteen pounds, and was staying on a healthy diet. I worried Abby would spiral downhill after quitting, but I was wrong all along. • 6. Children s Responsibilities For Children Every adult who has children knows it is a challenging experience and extremely rewarding, especially when the children grow to be responsible, independent, caring, productive adults and parents in their own right. After helping raise my own children, being a professional martial arts instructor since 1979, teaching thousands of children and helping other parents raise their children (so they tell me), here are 10 keys I feel are important to raising children successfully. 1. Leadership Kids need a leader, someone who is strong, responsible, caring and committed to their highest and best good. What children do not need is to be the parent to their parents. Children do not need to be buddies, pals or best friends with their parents until they, the children, are adults. Children are children. They need leaders to lead, guide and direct them through their early life. Those leaders are the parents who need to take a front row in raising their kids. For children to be successful in life, they need a strong parental foundation, one that puts them before their parent s careers, activities, relationships and jobs. Children should never be thought of as appendages to a parent s life. Until the children are of legal age, the children are the parent s life. When this commitment is given to children, it is a boon to their early development and later success as responsible and independent adults. 2. Structure Children need structure. They need foundational guidelines. They need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper deals with Allendale County poverty after offering insight into poverty in general within South Carolina. Persistent Poverty in South Carolina Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined poverty threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 60s to benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels annually. Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family has insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the established poverty amount is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income as defined by the federal rules can include cash and cash welfare assistance, but excludes any in kind welfare assistance. There are restrictions a few other ... New computer and Trojan viruses that successfully target information on Social Networking Sites (SNSs) are on the rise. Some foreign investors, including government and commercial entities known to be involved with organized criminal activity, own large stakes in certain SNSs. • 44. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever Disease Question and Evidence What is the specific microbiology for the Rocky Mountain spotted fever disease? The foreground information presented in the single study research article, Targeted Knockout of the Rickettsia rickettsii OmpA Surface Antigen Does Not Diminish Virulence in a Mammalian Model System will facilitate answering that question. Findings/Answers to Question Those diagnosed with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, the most severe type of spotted fever, have the rickettsia rickettsii bacterium to thank. This gram negative obligate intracellular pathogen has varying levels of virulence, from avirulent to highly virulent, and thus the severity of the disease differs among individuals. Highly virulent strains include the Sheila Smith strain and an avirulent strain is the Iowa strain. Despite their virulence, various strains of the rickettsia rickettsii pathogen have the potential to be transmitted to humans by arthropod vectors, like ticks. The article also notes that ... It is noted that due to a premature stop codon, rOmpA is not produced in the avirulent strains of the rickettsia rickettsii bacteria and thus, it is thought that OmpA may play a role in virulence. This hypothesis was tested by inserting an isogenic ompA mutant to create a premature stop codon into a guinea pig infected with the highly virulent Shelia Smith strain. It was evident that this did not affect the duration or severity of illness versus the control guinea pig. From these findings it was concluded, and as the title of the article states, the rickettsia rickettsii OmpA surface antigen does not diminish virulence in a mammalian model ... Deep within an abundance of towering pine trees, where the bluebirds chirped and the frogs croaked, babbled a crooked creek. The air was filled with the smell of moist bark and sweet blossoms, the sound of bees buzzing, and the feeling of serenity. I had lived in my very own oasis where all of my childhooddreams were born. I dreamed of all my firsts , my first kiss, my first love, my first high school dance, my first varsity soccer game in the stadium under the lights, my first day as a college student in a foreign city, my first paycheck as an employee, and countless more. My siblings and I staged and acted out various versions of the perfect little family with the house located in the countryside surrounded by the white picket fence to complete the stereotypical American Dream. My imagination was sparked by this magical sanctuary where I led my siblings in the pursuit of our hopes and dreams for a future that now in retrospect seemed untouchable. Where every day brought another game and every hour brought another challenge, I was the queen and I could achieve anything and conquer the world. I was unbeatable, the strongest, the fastest and the bravest. On certain days our old oak tree would transform into a mighty, pirate ship reeking of saltwater and seaweed, sailing the Indian Ocean and I would lead us to find buried treasures fighting ... • 49. Equality In Early Generations In The United States Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many things to accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice among the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and not letting me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is, they are essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we wouldn t put up a fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once considered public . The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon as someone with no rights. In conclusion the equality of earlier generations was really never established until people began to rebel and make it noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public uses of everything that was once common. Finally, with the division of social classes would have change if at the beginning of time there wasn t any one person in control and corrupt, using their power in their ...
