Thesis: Nanotechnology innovation is the mixture of extreme developed technology and a responsibility towards its making.
I. Nanotechnology and its initiative should have a motive to bring a revolution to the world as in the industrial sectors, medical sectors, food safety, transportation and many more. These vast developed technologies should be as good as to build the trust to the society and prepare to go long way to the futuristic innovations.
A. Main ideas: Responsible Innovation
1. Responsible development of nanotechnology implies sensitivity to public perceptions and public trust.
a. US scientists and policymakers thought that the public might turn against the nano-development like GMOs in Europe with the feeling of risk and lack of trust.
b. As with the developing nanotechnology, the understanding among the society and the technology is required to fully function and provide all the benefits to the public.
c. The nanomaterial research, however, implies to manage the risk to the public for the production, application and use by applying the safety and well-being for the long-term.
2. Preserving the environment, human health and safety with the new development of nanotechnology.
a. The nanotechnology helps to convert the pollutants in harmless materials to filter the air out such as manganese oxide which absorbs the toxic gases.
b. The nanotechnology helps to improve the quality because it contains carbon nanotubes, zeolites which can be used to improve the quality of water.
B. Main ideas: The problem of communication of nanotechnology to the public.
1. The responsible technology development interacted towards the failure of the development of the nanotechnology due to lack of public awareness, acceptance to the new technology.
a. Lacking relevant information based on the material provided by the mass media.
b. Wrong information and misinformation from the mass media influencing public attitudes towards nanotechnology and failed to communicate with public.
c. Lack of knowledge in nanotechnology communication make an information difficult for the public to comprehend.
C. Problems like deficits; heterogeneity; attitudes influenced by values and emotions.
a. People based with the nanotechnology knowledge poorly and hardly familiar with the technology, harbors misconceptions, and has difficulties understanding central concepts.
b. Differentiate of knowledge and understanding between subpopulations in society, making it difficult to develop communication strategies; religiosity and gender affecting perception and implications on how information is understood and how people interpret nanotechnology related information.
