Introduction
The 13th
Innovation Africa Digital (IAD) Summit 2015 was developed by Extensia in partnership with
the Ministry of ICT, Postal & Courier Services, Zimbabwe.
The theme for this pan-African summit was Affordable Access in Africa, covering all the challenges
and opportunities of delivering effective services at affordable rates. The main programme included
sessions on Digital Inclusion Initiatives, National Development, Growth & Investment, Internet for
Development and OTT Services. The parallel programme of 20 interactive workshops, 11 advisory
clinics and numerous pre-arranged business meetings supported the main programme discussions
on operational efficiencies, cross-functional collaboration and network performance.
IAD 2015 was an intimate gathering of over 400 industry leaders and key decision makers from 41
countries (23 African and 18 International). The charts below show a breakdown of delegates by job

Outcomes
As a result of hosting this year’s IAD Summit in Zimbabwe, Extensia, in partnership with TechEquity,
ZARnet and the Government of Zimbabwe, officially launched the eNhava service. An innovative
research and education focussed cloud platform designed to support the school digitisation
programme already under way in Zimbabwe. eNhava will streamline administration, improve
security, attendance and school to parent, teacher to student communications outside of the
classroom. eNhava will also provide access to a vast library of online resources and learning
materials, accessible in and out of the classroom and the e-commerce functionality will not only
enable more effective school related procurement but future evolutions will create an opportunity
for schools to become the economic hubs for the local community. Once established in Zimbabwe,
eNhava will be introduced to other countries across Africa and enquiries have already been made as
a result of the workshops hosted at the IAD Summit.

5. In addition to the launch of eNhava, Gilat Satcom launched their ‘Village Island’ low cost rural
connectivity service at the IAD Summit and plans were put in place for an ambitious connectivity
programme, connecting the East and West Coasts of Africa with broadband connectivity. Extensia, in
conversation with Honourable Minister Mandiwanzira (MICTPCS Zimbabwe), ATU, FTTH Council for
Africa, Ovum, MSI Africa, Angola Cables and other key stakeholders, committed to bringing the key
policy makers, regulators, service providers, infrastructure providers, consultants and others
together in July at the C2C summit in Tanzania, to identify the challenges and associated solution
options and to facilitate bi-lateral discussions which will accelerate this important agenda.
Extensia have also been made aware of many private business deals which were facilitated over the
course of the IAD summit, many of them involving Zimbabwe based organisations who were
exposed to solutions and solution providers during the three days and took advantage of the ample
private meeting opportunities.
One of the key benefits to hosting the IAD Summit is the opportunity for the host country to expose
a large number of local key stakeholders, to international best practices and solutions. Zimbabwe
took full advantage of this opportunity and the resulting surge in knowledge and exposure will
provide an essential boost to national development in the ICT sector. To ensure this opportunity is
not lost, Extensia have committed providing continued support through the ‘Extensia Bridge’ service
in which we provide an open ‘Bridge’ for our partners in Zimbabwe to access the international
solutions market through Extensia. Through our network of key partners and extensive network of
international solution providers, we will assist in project development, solutions sourcing and
project management and retain an open door policy for the government and key stakeholders in
Zimbabwe, to take full advantage of Extensia’s resources.
