What is Hypermedia Database?
HYPERMEDIA DATABASE -
It is a computer information retrieval system that allows a user to
access and work on audio-visual recordings, text, graphics and
photographs of a stored subject.
A hypermedia database may also provide hyperlinks to additional
information regarding a specified subject
2
Hypermedia
It is an extension of the term hypertext, is a nonlinear medium of
information that includes graphics, audio, video, plain text
and hyperlinks.
3
Database
A database is an organized collection of data, generally stored and
accessed electronically from a computer system. Where databases
are more complex, they are often developed using formal design
and modeling techniques.
Difference between Hypermedia and
Hypertext
The main difference lies in the way they are implemented. Hypertext is
used to represent multimedia content in electronic text format
whereas hypermedia combines both hypertext and multimedia to
provide access to a wealth of information usually in a non-linear
sequence.
4
Hypermedia vs Traditional database
The biggest advantage of hypermedia databases as compared to
traditional databases is that documents are accessed via organized
links while traditional databases were designed to
store relational records and handle transactions.
NoSQL databases are nonrelational. When records need to be
analyzed, it is the columns that contain the important information.
5
Big
concept
Hypermedia is only an extension of hypertext that allows
images, movies, and Flash animations to be linked to other
content
6
Examples of
Hypermedia
Hypercard
A hypertext programming environment
for the Macintosh introduced by Apple
in 1987.
HyperCard model consists of cards, and
collections of cards, called stacks. You
can connect the cards in various ways,
and leaf through them the way you
would with a set of Rolodex cards.
8
World Wide Web
The World Wide Web (WWW) is
combination of all resources and users
on the Internet that are using the
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
The World Wide Web is the universe of
network-accessible information, an
embodiment of human knowledge.
Invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989
