Soil- less cultivation has been followed in number of vegetables such as, tomato, chilli, brinjal, green bean, bell pepper, cauliflower, cucumber, melons, radish, onion, lettuce, beet, winged beans, water spinach, spinach, coriander, and so on. Soil-less cultivation helps in early nursery raising and easy management, production of healthy vegetable seedlings free from disease, insects and pest. It has various benefits like; year-round production and off season, higher productivity and uniform quality, management of insect-pests, diseases and weeds is easier which helps in more efficient and less use of resources. Soilless culture is rapidly gaining its popularity and get accepted in many countries, especially in commercial vegetable production. Soilless culture could well dominate food production in the future As population increases and cultivable land declines due to poor land management, so people turn towards new technologies like soilless culture. Agriculture outside of soil is including hydro agriculture (Hydroponics), aqua agriculture (Aquaponics), aerobic agriculture (Aeroponics) as well as agriculture using supportive mediators. Benefits of soilless cultures include the reservation of cultivated lands for main crops; save not less than 90% of irrigated water; use nearly recycled fixed amount of water; most vegetable crops succeed and give the highest productivity in soilless agriculture than the ordinary agriculture; It can be run in various places such as balconies, roofs of buildings, various greenhouses and lands unsuitable for cultivation; the provision of fertilizer materials, where it’s used rationed amounts calculated accurately nutrients according to the plant requirements; Ease of dealing with plants and ease of conducting the required protection operations against various pests.

The integration of fish and vegetables creates an ideal growing environment that is more productive than conventional methods. Consequently, aquaponics is gaining more importance now a day because crop production systems are being forced towards increasing irregularities as drought, floods, storms, cyclones and diseases visit regularly. A simple aquaponic system was designed with the locally available materials.13 pants of 5 different species were grown in an area of 0.27 m2 ( Rashmi M et. al 2013). Three different methods were tested to determine the best system to grow Taro vegetable. The applied methods were T1 = aquaponics system for soilless vegetable culture in gravel bed with fish tank waste water, T2= hydroponics for soilless vegetable culture in gravel bed with tap water and T3= vegetable culture in soil media with tap water as control. Double recirculating aquaponic system (DRAPS) consisting of two independent recirculating units – a recirculating aquaculture unit for fish production and a closed hydroponic cycle for plant production which were connected unidirectional was developed (Suhl J et al 2016). Results revealed that aquaponic system offers better results than other media. This system can enhance the organic farming which could be environmental friendly. Double recirculating aquaponic system (DRAPS) with two independent cycles provides the opportunity to produce equal tomato yields compared to those obtained by conventionally used hydroponic systems. By Using DRAPS fertilizer use efficiency was also improved by 23.6%.

Don’tS
After cleaning reusable media,
rinse and dry before planting.
Food-grade peroxide is food
-safe as long as it is diluted
correctly (32:1 water to peroxide).
UV
Using UV & ozone to sterilize can
constantly kill biological material in
your system. Use on solution
between reservoir and plants.
Flush and clean supply and drain
lines frequently (every few days
or so depending on your system).
Clean facilities and equipment
daily.
Do a visual check every time you
enter your farm.
Clean filters regularly—they can
become clogged.
Check pumps and emitters—these
lose efficiency over time.
Don’t mix CaNO3 with MgSO4 and NPK. It will react with the magnesium sulfate and create
precipitates, which are not plant-available.
Don’t add iron while the UV is running. This will also create precipitates. Turn off UV for
24-48 hours prior.
Don't apply sterilization production directly to plants, as they may harm or kill them.
Don’t use bleach on your plants or in the reservoir. The plants will die.
Don’t use lemon juice!
Bleach can be used if done correctly, but too much or not rinsing residues can harm plants.

Sterilize and sanitize your system

cycles. Remove all organic
matter.
Limit light exposure to any nutrient
solution (cover your reservoir, use
evaporation caps, etc.), which will
help limit the growth of algae and
lower labor costs.
