2. OBJECTIVES

• explain the principle behind the working of hydraulic and pneumatic devices;
• state the uses of the machines.
3. HYDRAULIC MACHINES
• Hydraulic machines are those machines which utilize pressurized liquid fluid power to do simple work.
Examples of these machines include:
• Hydraulic jack
• Hydraulic brakes in cars
• Water wheels, turbines, garden or lawn sprinkler, etc
9. PNEUMATIC MACHINES
• Pneumatic machines run on compressed air. Air pressure is used to operate a part or all of the
mechanism.
Examples of these machines are
i) Bicycle tyre pump
ii) The suction (force) pump
iii) Centrifugal pump
iv) Compressed air pump
