12. FUNCTION Introduction We were tasked to design a “Community hub” that provides shelter that is small , uses low technology, is low in cost, sustainable, multifunctional, and easy to assemble. It should facilitate a public landmark and should be designed so that it could be repeated in different communities (i.e. it should be flexible and should suit various areas/ communities). It should also provide an access to information, opportunities, for learning, communication, and social interaction. The given site is flat. However, the hub should be designed for a generic site (to allow for repetition thereof). My chosen function of the “Hub” is for it to be a meeting place. Many communities around the country have drifted apart, where there is no longer any social interaction or communication between them, therefore, I feel that communities will be in need of this facility to allow for future interaction amongst them. It could improve community statuses, so that everyone may be helped and assisted positively whether it be family, community, or friend issues. Therefore, I think it should be implemented. Provision for a masonry unit should be made, as well as to provide a wi-fi spot, and it must be lockable after hours.
