3. WHAT IS PUBLIC REALM?
Public space/realm is defined as space that is shared communally by the public. It is
intimately linked to the ideas of universal access, the common ground, and shared
amenities.
Examples include parks, plazas, pedestrian pathways, and streets, indoor spaces such as
atriums, shopping centres, and community centres.

4. WHAT IS PUBLIC REALM?
The public realm belongs to everyone. It comprises public urban spaces and other
outdoor places that require no key to access them and are available, without charge for
everyone to use.
The three key elements that influence the public realm are:
● The buildings that enclose and define the space;
● The space itself; and
● The people that inhabit the public realm and the way they use the space.

5. ROLE OF PUBLIC REALM
The public realm plays a critical role in the area’s character and function, serving overlapping
roles, including:
1. Circulation and Access: The public street rights-of way provide for circulation within and
through the community
2. Development Framework: The public street rights-of way provide the fundamental
structure.
3. Public Open Space: In addition to the community’s parks and plazas, public street
rights-of-way play an important role in social interaction and nature inclusivity.
4. Visual Character: While buildings are important visual elements, the physical design is
critical in establishing the community’s identity and overall character.

16. To be done
Areas-
1. Priyadarshini Colony- furniture kept outside, parks present but not maintained, parks just beside buildings
creating dumping and mosquito breeding areas, open sewers with foul smell and unhygienic conditions,
encroachment all around lessening the ROW within the society, opportunity- pocket park’s edges are mostly
surrounded by hawkers in the evening & tes stalls and small confectionary shop throughout the day thus create eye
on street, weakness- no grocery shops around thus required to go far of locations.
2. Outer Ring Road- ranges from a consumption zone (around kachori shops), a cultural/ religious zone (hanuman &
maharshi mandir), a facilitation zone (amenities like mohalla clinic and pink toilet) to just a transitional space
(including footpath, subways, etc.), majorly heavily populated on tuesdays and evening (mandir and consumption
sides), around clinic and pink toilet men keep on strawling and having bath on nearby hand pump, opportunity-
3. Hanuman Mandir- religious and consumption activities along with homeless people staying in nearby vicinity (due
to the hindu belief system (maybe), so can be taken as opportunity and provided with shelter homes around the
mandir itself, the way leading to inside the colony from beside temple is pedestrianised till DJB office, which facilitates
the population
18. CONSUMPTION SPACES AROUND THE HANUMAN TEMPLE
Entrance to Hanuman Mandir and associated eatery joints and people living and sitting
around the roads
19. CONSUMPTION SPACES FOR PUBLIC SERVICES
Pink Toilet (Public Toilet for Women) Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinic (A temporary structure built for public
utility)
