With the rapid growth in users on social networks, there is a corresponding increase in user-generated content, in turn resulting in information overload. On Twitter, for example, users tend to receive un- interested information due to their non-overlapping interests from the people whom they follow. In this paper we present a Semantic Web ap- proach to filter public tweets matching interests from personalized user profiles. Our approach includes automatic generation of multi-domain and personalized user profiles, filtering Twitter stream based on the gen- erated profiles and delivering them in real-time. Given that users inter- ests and personalization needs change with time, we also discuss how our application can adapt with these changes.

OSCON 2012: Design and Debug HTML5 Apps for Devices with RIB and Web SimulatorGail Frederick
Learn how to build UI for and debug HTML5 apps for mobile devices using Rapid Interface Builder (RIB) and Web Simulator, two open-source tools recently released by Intel. This session dives deep into the feature sets of both Web app developer tools, with demos, and shows you how you can influence the future of these open-source projects.
Rapid Interface Builder, RIB, is a browser-based design tool for quickly prototyping and creating Web apps for mobile devices and desktops. RIB allows a developer to layout UI by dropping widgets onto a canvas and reviewing the UI in interactive preview mode. RIB generates HTML5 and JavaScript that can be imported into your IDE of choice to complete the app. RIB supports jQueryMobile and Tizen widgets and runs on Google Chrome and Chromium browsers.
Web Simulator is a lightweight open-source tool for debugging mobile web applications. Extending the Google Chrome developer tools, it enables running and debugging web APIs for mobile platforms on the developer’s desktop system. Web Simulator allows you to simulate accelerometer and other sensor data, incoming and outgoing calls, geolocation events and battery status and other mobile device events in your Web app with fine-grained control over events. It currently supports HTML5 and the Tizen Web APIs.

Apache Cordova is one of the most popular frameworks for cross-platform mobile development. Web developers can build apps for iOS, Android, and Windows based on the same frameworks they use for the Web by using a shared codebase. However, the methods for improving mobile app performance can be different from those web developers use for web apps. Doris Chen outlines what impacts “native performance” and explains how the startup time, as well as the overhead of resume, memory, communication, and the Web, can all contribute to the performance of Cordova apps. To build Cordova apps that perform well, it’s important to understand how to avoid common pitfalls and how to use the technologies in the most efficient ways. Doris introduces tools for performance tests and demonstrates how to measure mobile app performance by using diagnostic tools for different platforms. Doris also shares practical tips for building faster Cordova apps by exploring Document Object Model (DOM) complexity, animation techniques, and memory management.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

20. Key IE9 Windows Phone Technologies for Mobile
• Support for Viewport <meta> tag
• Support for W3C Geolocation, including GPS
• Full support for CSS Media Queries
• DOM Local Storage and Session Storage
• Data URIs
22. Controlling the Viewport
Viewport Property Description
width Sets the width of the viewport. Can be either an integer value
or "device-width". Defaults to 1024 on Windows Phone, 980
on iPhone
height Sets the height of the viewport. Can be either an integer value
or "device-height".
initial-scale Sets the initial scale value of the viewport. Defaults to 1.0.
maximum-scale Determines the maximum scale value of the viewport. Range
is from 0.1 to 10.0
minimum-scale Determines the minimum scale value of the viewport. Range is
from 0.1 to 10.0
user-scalable Boolean that determines whether the user can scale the
viewport
23. Using Media Queries
Provide a way of applying style sheets based upon certain
characteristics of the media
Window size, screen size, aspect ratio, color depth,
resolution, etc.
Are a W3C candidate recommendation as of July 2010
Specification can be found at
http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-mediaqueries/
<link rel="stylesheet" media="screen and
(max-width:800)" href="example.css" />
Or…
@media screen and (max-width:800) {
/* style definitions that apply to
screens less than 800px wide */
}
24. Using Media Queries
Media Query Description
Feature
width Indicates an output surface, such as a window, of exactly
width units (px, etc.)
height Indicates an output surface, such as a window of exactly
height units
device-width Indicates a device that has exactly the given width, in given
units
device-height Indicates a device that has exactly the given height, in
given units
orientation Used with “portrait” or “landscape” for devices that can do
both.
25. Using Media Queries
<link rel=“stylesheet” media=“screen and (max-device-width:800px)”
href=“styles.css”>
@media screen and (max-device-width:800px) {
/* style definitions that apply to screens less than 800px wide
*/
}
<link rel=“stylesheet” media=“screen and (min-width:480px) and
(max-width:800px)” href=“styles.css”>
@media screen and (min-width:480px) and (max-width:800px){
/* style definitions that apply to screens less than 800px wide
*/
}
http://mediaqueri.es/popular/
26. Geolocation
Geolocation allows a phone to figure out where it is
IP Address location or Wireless network location
Triangulation of cellular towers
GPS device that uses satellite signals
Can get location as a "one-shot" or continuously
Location is always opt-in
“User Agents must not send location information to
Web sites without the express permission of the user.”
W3C Geolocation API
http://www.w3.org/TR/geolocation-API/
28. Client-side LocalStorage / SessionStorage
Provides easier way of storing data on client without
cookies
29. DOM Storage API
Available from the window object:
window.localStorage
window.sessionStorage
getItem(key)
setItem(key, value)
removeItem(key)
clear()
key(index)
length
30. Things to remember about DOM Storage
Data is stored as strings – if you store other types, you
must convert them yourself
Example:
setItem("mysite.product.price", 59.99);
var price = parseFloat("mysite.product.price");
If you try to store more than 5MB, an exception of type
QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR is thrown
There is currently no way to request an increase in the
available storage space in any of the browsers
31. The data:// URI
Defines a way for embedding content such as images
directly inline into markup or CSS content
Used to reduce the number of HTTP requests
IE9 allows data URIs up to 4GB in size
General Format:
data:[mime-type][;base64],<image data as text>
32. Data URI Usage
Use data URIs in place of normal URLs:
HTML
Replaces:
<img src=“http://imagename.png” />
With:<img src=“data:image/png;base64,00af037491806ed...” />
CSS
Replaces:
.rule { background-image:url(‘http://imagename.png’) }
With:.rule { background-image:
url(‘data:image/png;base64,00af037491806ed...’) }
