A guided tour of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Virtually all of the Sao Paulo’s sightseeing attractions are
found in the historic downtown of the city.
Mercado Municipal
Mercado Municipal is a historical market place built in the 30s of the 20th
century. It is the biggest market in Sao Paulo situated in an impressive building
with a glass roof and beautiful stained-glass windows. Here, delicious sausages
and cheeses are sold as well as exotic fruits and vegetables, some of which are
found only in Brazil. Mercado Municipal is a very special place where visitors can
immerse themselves in Sao Paulo’s unique atmosphere. The market’s address
is Rua da Cantareira 306, метро São Bento. Mercado Municipal is open daily
from 5 a.m. till 4 p.m.
The Sao Paulo See Metropolitan Cathedral
The Sao Paulo Cathedral is the city’s most prominent landmark. A majestic
Neo-Byzantine structure, it towers over other buildings. The construction of
the present cathedral began in 1913, but the inauguration ceremony wasn’t
held until 1945. The original church was built on the site of the present
cathedral in 1591. In 2002, the cathedral was reopened after a complete
renovation which took three years. Since then, masses in the cathedral have
been held daily. The Sao Paulo Cathedral stands at Praça da Sé, close to the
Sé underground station. It’s open daily from 8 a.m. till 7 p.m.
Saint Benedict Monastery
The Sao Bento Monastery, with its majestic albeit austere façade, is one of
the oldest and most important monasteries in Sao Paulo, despite the fact
that its Neo-Gothic front was completed early in the 20th century. Within its
spacious halls, light filters in through gorgeous stained-glass windows, but
the monastery’s main attraction is its masses which are held every Sunday at
10 o’clock in the morning. Since they attract practitioners of various religions,
it’s prudent to book a seat beforehand to be able to witness the rite. The
Sao Bento Monastery is located at Largo de São Bento, near the São Bento
underground station. Service hours: Mon. through Wed. and Fr. 6 a.m. till 6
p.m., Thur. 2 p.m. till 6 p.m., Sat., Sun. 6 a.m. till 12 a.m., 4 p.m. till 6 p.m.

The Liberdade District
The Sao Paulo Japantown was called Liberdade (meaning “freedom”) after
slavery was abolished in 1888. It is home to the largest Japanese community
outside of Japan. Streets in the Liberdade District are decorated with
beautiful Japanese lanterns and lined with numerous sushi restaurants and
gift shops. Naturally, visitors will encounter many Japanese here. Liberdade
is also home to the Museum of Japanese Immigration (Museu Histórico da
Imigração Japonesa no Brasil).
The Banespa Building
The Banespa’s observation deck offers one of the most breathtaking views of
Sao Paulo. Built in 1939, this towering skyscraper is Brazil’s own equivalent of
the Empire State Building. Entry to the observation deck on the topmost floor is
free, but visitors must bring an ID. Address: Rua João Brícola 24, the São Bento
underground station. Business hours: Mon. through Fr. 10 a.m. till 5 p.m.
Edifício Copan
The Edifício Copan is a famous residential building in Sao Paulo. This masterpiece
of architecture was designed by an influential 20th century Brazilian architect
Oscar Niemeyer. The building with its wavelike front and narrow brises-soleil has
become a symbol of Sao Paulo. The ground floor is open to the public, but the
apartments on the upper floors are private property and therefore off-limits
to visitors. Niemeyer’s design was to bring together all classes, that’s why the
building has both expansive apartments for the rich and small studious for the
working poor. Address: Av. Ipiranga, 200, the República underground station.
Ibirapuera Park
The Ibirapuera Park is Sao Paulo’s own version of the New York’s Central
Park. It is the second largest park in Sao Paulo with an area of 1.4 square
kilometers. It is a nice place both for a pleasant walk and a bicycle ride at a
reasonable price. Every Sunday, a free concert is held at Ibirapuera’s Praça da
Paz Square.
Sunday
The group leaves for the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos
International Airport (GRU). FastForward provides
transportation to the airport.

Management Tour of the Best
Brazilian IT Companies
An Overview
of the Brazilian IT Market
According to the IDC research corroborated by the Brazilian Computer Technology and Communications Companies
Association (BRASCOM), the Brazilian IT market became one of the most thriving markets in the world at year-end 2012.
Its volume reached US$123 billion which is equivalent to 5.2% of GDP (4.4% in 2011). Compared to 2011, market growth
amounted to 10.8%.
Growth trends remain steady since 2010, the year of
the ‘Great Leap’ which marked the turning point for
the Brazilian IT industry. As a result, the country is
now ranked seventh in the world in terms of software
and IT services market volume (in 2011, it was ranked
11th).
At year-end 2012, Brazil’s share of the global IT
market was 2.5% and of the Latin American market,
49.1%. The number of computers installed reached
72.6 million, and the number of internet users
reached 52 million.
Such projects as electronic voting system, software for
vehicles powered by alternative fuel, agricultural production
management, oil and natural gas prospecting and
production automation, not only boost Brazil’s productivity
and competitive growth, but also demonstrate the country’s
readiness to implement innovation.
According to BRASCOM, as of early 2013, 8,520 IT
companies had been registered in Brazil. Among
them, 24% specialize in software development, 50%
focus on software and services commercialization,
and 25% provide services.
Notably, over 97% of software developers are
small and ultra small businesses. Such environment
proves conducive to competitive pricing of the
Brazilian IT products. In fact, the majority of Brazilian
software and services pricing is calculated per man-
hour. Moreover, the environment is contributing
to significant demand growth in the business
process outsourcing segment. Such multinational
corporations as IBM and Oracle make active use of
this circumstance.

Key National Market Players: ITAUTEC, TIVIT,
SRED, BSI Tecnologia, Cielo, BRQ.
Brazilian IT companies are supported by such
designated associations as BRASCOM (Brazilian IT
and Communications Companies Association) and
ABES (Brazilian IT Companies Association) which in
turn work closely with the relevant executive and
legislative bodies.
At government level, IT companies and especially
their export capacities are supported by such bodies
as APEX (National Export Promotion Agency) and
SEBRAE (Brazilian service of assistance to small
and micro enterprises). Said agencies offer special
programs for the IT and software market operators.
Thus, Russian software developers and IT service
providers which work closely with Brazilian companies
that cooperate with the abovementioned agencies
may count on advancing their interests not only
to Brazilian market, but to other countries as well,
especially the Mercosur member states.
Industry and financial sector are the main IT service
consumers accounting for 45% of software demand.
PETROBRAS, Embraer, CSN (National Metallurgical
Company), BRF Brasil Foods, Banco do Brasil, and
Itaú are among the major software and service
consumers in the domestic market. According to
FEBRABAN research, over 50% of Brazilian financial
institutions channel upwards of 2% of budget funds
for IT development. Within the financial sector, the
main niches are online and mobile banking, credit
finding IT architecture development and maintenance,
payment solutions, and authorized direct debit
support. FERABAN regards online banking information
security as a focal area of business since it is the
most vulnerable channel between bank and client.

IT Investments
The Brazilian government shows interest and
supports investment growth in research and
development centers, cloud technologies,
semiconductors, and smart networks.
At year-end 2012, the IT investment volume reached
US$27.178 million. Software development investments
amounted to US$9.968 million whereas service
industry investment volume reached US$17.57 million.
According to IDC estimates, the Brazilian IT sector
growth rate will probably remain high. A number of
factors will contribute to this with the government’s
close attention not the least among them. According
to the IT Production Development Plan, the export
potential is to be increased up to US$5 billion, and
100,000 new IT specialists are to be trained. In the
coming years, the government is planning to reduce
social taxes for IT companies by 10%, the Sistema S
tax (a special staff tax in certain economic sectors) by
3.1%, and to cut down local taxes.
Brazilian IT industry holds fair investment promise.
According to Brazilian analysts, additional
investments in the amount of US$33 billion are
planned in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup
and the 2016 Summer Olympics. Of this amount,
about 10% will be allocated to IT development,
particularly to security and monitoring systems
development, traffic control, 4G network
development, digital video broadcast, etc.
