It's great fun to play and exciting to watch.
Volleyball’s history
began in in 1895
The sport was developed at the YMCA by William G. Morgan
It was an alternative for the older men as an alternative to
basketball
ORIGINS
“Volleyball is a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which a
ball is hit by hand over a high net. Each team tries to score points by
grounding a ball on the other team's court”

The idea is to

WHERE YOU CAN
PLAY
A typical Volleyball court is just 18 meters (59 feet) long and 9
meters (29.5 feet) wide
Courts can be gym floors, sand, grass and many other surfaces
ROTATION
All players must stay in the
same rotation as when
they entered the court until
the ball is in play.
On serve receive, once the
ball is up you are free to
move wherever.
When you gain the serve
back, the team moves
clockwise and there is a
new server.
RULES AND POINTS
There are many rules in volleyball, but
the main ones include
1. The team is only allowed 3
touches to get the ball back over
2. You cannot “carry” the ball
3. The serve must start outside the
court
4. You cannot touch the net
5. The same player can only hit the
ball once in a row
If the ball lands out on opponents
court, the team take more than three
hits, carries the ball, or violates any
other rules, it is the oppositions point.
Basics such as a top, shorts and running shoes are all that are
required to play
Move advanced players with have court shoes, ankle braces, and
knee pads.
ATTIRE
MOVES
In a serve the player holds the ball in
one hand and follows through to hit it with
the other hand in an attempt to get it into
the opponent's court.
A spike is usually the third hit with an
open hand. The object is to hit the ball
down with your hand so that it lands on
the opponent's court and cannot be
defended.
Blocking refers to the actions taken by
players standing at the net to stop the
opponent's spike
A bump pass is the attempt by the
team to receive an attack. A bump lands
it the fore arm.
POSITIONS
There area 6 players on the court in the game of volleyball. (2 lines of 3
players)
1. Outside hitters: spike the ball
2. 2. Middle blockers: best at blocking the net.
3. Setters: pass it off to the middle or outside for a spike
