Badminton is a racquet sport played by two opposing players or pairs divided by a net. Players score by hitting the shuttlecock over the net and into their opponent's court. The standard court is 13.4 meters long and 6.1 meters wide for doubles, and shortened to 5.18 meters for singles. Common shots include the serve, net shot, drop, clear, lift, drive, kill, and smash. Merengue is a popular music and dance style from the Dominican Republic. BADMINTON
History:
badminton is a raquet sport played by either two opposing
players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take
positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court divided
by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with
their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their
opponents' half of the court. Each side may only strike the
shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. A rally ends
once the shuttlecock has struck the floor, or if a fault has
been called by either the umpire or service judge or, in their
absence, the offending player, at any time during the rally.

• The court is rectangular and divided into halves by a net. Courts are usually marked
for both singles and doubles play, although badminton rules permit a court to be
marked for singles only. The doubles court is wider than the singles court, but both
are of same length. The exception, which often causes confusion to newer players, is
that the doubles court has a shorter serve-length dimension.
• The full width of the court is 6.1 metres (20 ft), and in singles this width is reduced to
5.18 metres (17 ft). The full length of the court is 13.4 metres (44 ft). The service
courts are marked by a centre line dividing the width of the court, by a short service
line at a distance of 1.98 metres (6 ft 6 inch) from the net, and by the outer side and
back boundaries. In doubles, the service court is also marked by a long service line,
which is 0.76 metres (2 ft 6 inch) from the back boundary.
• The net is 1.55 metres (5 ft 1 inch) high at the edges and 1.524 metres (5 ft) high in
the centre. The net posts are placed over the doubles sidelines, even when singles is
played.
• The minimum height for the ceiling above the court is not mentioned in the Laws of
Badminton. Nonetheless, a badminton court will not be suitable if the ceiling is likely
to be hit on a high serve.

• Underheah
The serve: we use it to start the game. You have to hit the shuttle
diagonally .
Net shot/lob: you hit the shuttle around the net area, the shuttle
goes close to the net of the opponent.

5. Drop: you hit the shuttle and it lands near the net of your opponent
• Overhead
Clear: you hit the shuttle very hight. The trayectory is until the end
line

6. Net lift/lob: you hit the shuttle near the net and the shuttle goes to
the back part of your opponents court.
Drive: you hit the shuttle in a horizontal trayectory

7. Net kill: you hit the shuttle near the net area strongly and it lands near
the net of your opponent’s court
Smash: you hit the shuttle wich power directly to the ground of your
opponent court

8. DANCE(MERENGUE)
Introduction
merengue is a type of music and dance originating in
the Dominican Republic which has become one of the
most popular genres throughout Latin America and
major cities in the United States.The etymology of its
name is much disputed. It may derive from the French
dessert meringue, but it is also likely to be related to
similar West African words related to dance and music

9. Basic steps
• Prima: The boy strecht his reference arm that is the left one and the
girl slowly tourns arround.
• Primo: Now the boy has to turn around..
•
• Primos: The couple turn around at the same time to the left.
• Sencilla: The boy has to turn around, and when he make one lap the
girl turn around
• Sencilla por abajo: The boy has to turn around and when he makes
one lap he has to go down and turns in the opposite side and then
the girl has to turn around.
• Sombrero: The couple put their arms like an eight around the neck
of each other, then they separate one hand and with the other one
the girl turn around, then the boy turn around with the girl’s hand in
the back and then the girl turn around again.

10. • Envuelvela: The boy put his reference arm around the body’s girl
• Sacala por abajo: In the position of envuelvela the boy has to take
the girl under his left arm and then the girl turn around and she is
placed in the initial position.
• 70:the boy has to turn the girl and when they are looking each other
the boy has to go through the right arm of the girl. When they have
the backs together they move to the right and left and after that they
go to the initial position doing 2 turns.
• Molino: the girl has to cross the hands and turn around, then the boy
has to do the same and repeat 2 times. When they finish the
movements the boy put the hands in the neck of the girl and then
they release the hands.
• Por detras: the girl has to put her hand in her back and the boy has
to take the hand and go under the girl’s arm and both turn and go to
the initial posirtion.
