Postconventional Schema
Appendix 1 see James Rest (1974), for the Defining Issues Test. This test has been devised under the
influence of Lawrence Kohlberg s moral reasoning stages, uses a Likert scale to give quantitative
ratings and rankings of issues of five moral dilemmas. The scale constitutes of 12 issues that are to be
rated in terms of importance to the corresponding dilemma and then rank the four most important
issues. The respondent will either score on three specific schemas of moral reasoning: Personal
Interests, Maintaining Norms, and the Post conventional Schema. When a respondent reads an issue
statement that both makes sense to them, as well as triggers a preferred schema, that statement is given
a high rating and ranking. Conversely, when a respondent reads an issue statement that is either
construed as nonsensical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Maintaining Norms Schema is considered more advanced than the Personal Interests Schema, as
it emphasizes more than the individual. At the Maintaining Norms reasoning level, law and authority
are important, as each of these helps to uphold social order, which is paramount to this schema. So, a
respondent who is predominantly using this schema will take into consideration what needs to be done
in order to be compliant with the social order of society. Finally, the Postconventional Schema is
regarded as the most developmentally advanced. At the Postconventional reasoning level, laws are not
simply blindly accepted (as with the Maintaining Norms Schema), but are scrutinized in order to
ensure society wide benefit. So, a respondent who is primarily using this schema will focus on what is
best for society as a whole. For example, the Civil Rights movement was a product of
Postconventional reasoning, as followers were most concerned with the society wide effects of
(in)equality. It should be noted that, though an individual may rely more heavily on one of the
aforementioned schemas, moral reasoning is typically informed, to varying degrees, by each of

Swimming South Analysis
The documentary Swimming South which premiered on 29 January 2017, would have sent a shock
through many of the viewers of channel 9 s weekly 60 minutes program. As it describes a threat that
could cost the Australian tourism industry billions and even have the potential to kill, it is called the
Irukandji jellyfish. Throughout the documentary 60 minutes has cleverly depicted the jellyfish to be a
lethal killer, to really gain the audiences focus while then informing viewers of the damage this animal
can do to not only us but to are whole economy. With various techniques being used to the capture
viewers attention on the topic such as language, camera techniques and archival footage combining
well together to make a well presented and informative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Providing video footage of them both actually being stung by the Irukandji gives the realistic image to
the viewers. As with actual evidence and proof of the stings occurring it provides the viewers with a
more realistic feel of what this creature can actually do to us. As the immense pain being shown by
them, it creates a fear for the audience since this creature could be very likely swimming alongside us
in the water. The archival footage just adds to the whole documentaries persona of the Irukandji being
the bad guy and 60 minutes being the hero saving us. By continuing the bias side of the documentary
saying we even have proof of how deadly the jellyfish is. To cleverly hook the audience to the one
side of the topic they are being shown, being the Jellyfish is pure evil nothing else. Not considering
the fact that we are swimming in its home but this clearly portrays the director s intent as well to only
have the audience react due to the bad effects of this animal. To have the audience think they have to
do something about this and have them worried about this massive threat to us and the tourism
industry.
The documentary Swimming south combines a variety of specific techniques such as Camera
techniques, Narration and Archival footage to effectively position the audience to be against this
threat.

Commentary on: Pecan market is a crackin
In the last few years the economic growth of China has caused the demand (and supply) of all kinds of
nuts, especially pecans, to rise and producers are facing a challenge meeting the soaring demand, says
The Globe and Mail October 18th 2010.
Demand and supply are the quantity of a good or service that consumers and producers are willing
able to purchase and produce at a given price in a given time period. Equilibrium is a state of rest, self
perpetuating in the absence of outside disturbance. At this price, the quantity demanded equals
quantity supplied. Price elasticity of demand (PED) is the responsiveness of demand in change of

This sends a signal to suppliers to increase price until a new equilibrium is reached at price P1 and
quantity demanded Q1.
However, instead of keeping the price at P1, the suppliers will rather shift the supply curve to the right
by exporting more pecans because the Chinese demand is greater than the demand North American
demand and they can make more profit by allocating resources to China instead. Here we assume that
PE is greater than North American price of pecans.
This causes a positive shift in supply for China, from SC to SC1. Now, at price P1, Q1 pecans is
demanded, but Q2 is supplied, so we have excess supply. Suppliers have to decrease the price until
equilibrium is reached at price PE again and quantity supplied is 100 million pounds.

Examples Of Flashbacks In Toni Morrison s Beloved
Beloved: How the Past Affects a Person
Beloved is full of intense scenes that leave readers on the edge of their seats wondering what will
happen next. Some of the most powerful scenes are flashbacks, past experiences that characters come
face to face with. What makes these flashbacks so important is that they help make the reader
understand why the characters interact with each other the way they do. In Beloved, Toni Morrison
uses a loose structure and weaves flashbacks into everyday life to create a connection through which
readers can better understand the character s past.
In the beginning of the novel, the reader is introduced to the idea of flashbacks, which remain short
and are intertwined seamlessly within the text. The readers learn to be active when reading, and also
pay close attention to the details within the flashbacks to learn more about the characters that their past
lives.
The most significant flashbacks in Part One are when the reader learns about Sethe s past, and how
she killed her crawling already? baby. Inside, two boys bled in the sawdust at the feet of a nigger
woman holding a blood soaked child to her chest with one hand and an infant by the heels in the other
(Morrison 175). Here is where the reader first learns how the crawling already baby dies: Sethe killed
her and attempted to kill the rest of the children. When Sethe saw the schoolteacher, she ran to the
shed to try to save her children from slavery. She tried to make the ultimate sacrifice

Comparing Women In Ancient Rome And China
The civilizations of ancient Rome and China have long traditions of women occupying a lower
position in society than men. While this was a common idea, in practice, there were significant
differences in the way the two cultures treated women. Specific developments in both Rome and
China led them in two very different directions with regard to the type of lives women could live.
Although ancient Rome (750BC AD500) and China (350BC AD600) were both oppressive patriarchal
societies, the application of technology, widespread use of slavery and the translation of government
policies created more personal freedom for Roman women than Chinese women during that time.
During this era of the Roman Empire, a variety of technological advances happened, while ... Show

When enemies were conquered some of the people were made slaves, but they were just as likely to
have been buried alive. The number of slaves in China did not exceed 1% of the population. The
feudal system of farming, common in China, could be considered a form of slavery. These were
Chinese citizens whose circumstances left them as indentured servants. A significant difference to
slavery in Rome, is that China never adopted the idea of large scale slavery of conquered people.
Slaves in China were just as likely to have been of Chinese descent as that of a conquered territory. In
China, the government often dictated what tasks slaves would perform. For instance, the government
was afraid of replacing Chinese workers in agriculture, so the Chinese people never enjoyed the
freedom from manual agricultural labor the way Roman s did. China could be viewed as a society
with slaves vs. the Roman slave society . As a result, slavery never became the liberator of women in
China the way it did in Rome. These phenomena never happened because of the government attitudes
toward conquered people and the way they chose to use the slave labor that was

Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd ) Exhibit
As defined by the American Psychiatric Association (2013), individuals diagnosed with antisocial
personality disorder (ASPD) exhibit a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of
others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. Individuals, both
with and without ASPD, often find themselves facing stiff consequences when they break the law by
violating the rights of others. The propensity of individuals with ASPD to break such laws is one
possible explanation for the prevalence of ASPD increasing from a range of 0.2% to 3.3% in the
general population to 47% in prisons (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Fazel Danesh, 2002).
With such a disparity between the general and prison prevalence of ASPD, it is clear that society is
adroit in isolating the undesired behaviors of individuals with ASPD; however, society also has a
responsibility to protect the rights of those diagnosed with a bonafide illness. If ASPD is the cause of
an individual s incarceration, then their successful reintegration into society relies on treating the
underlying diagnosis, and in order to do that, it is important to understand the neurobiological
foundations of ASPD. Individuals with APSD exhibit neuroanatomical differences compared with
individuals without the diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have identified an
11.0% reduction in prefrontal gray matter in individuals diagnosed with ASPD (Raine, Lencz, Bihrle,

Media Reaction Of Political Issues On Immigration
Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration

Instructor: Eddie Trevizo

Introduction
Political issues relating to immigration have long been a concern since migrating into the United
States became so called illegal in the late 1880s. In reality, immigration was barely regulated until the
early 1920s when congress passed a Quota Law limiting the amount of people allowed to enter the
country annually. Just how immigrants stormed into the United States then, we continue to struggle
today in enforcing immigration laws and procedures, protecting our borders from undocumented
personnel and, most recent, terrorist threats. The following will describe the current political issues
regarding immigration and will focus on a few aspects of the problems the U.S is attempting to adapt
and overcome.
Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration In recent weeks, the United States has been
swamped with illegal aliens attempting to enter the country illegally from Mexico, South and Central
America, through South Texas, the high majority being unaccompanied alien children. The United
Nations report found that the main reasons children made the dangerous trips to the border were to
join relatives in the United States, they wanted to flee violence in their countries and flee abuse in the
home ( Undocumented immigrants to leave El Paso while cases are pending El Paso Times ). In 2012,
President Obama enacted the Deferred

Education As A Large Number Of Qualified Staff

Introduction
Education is a massive structure in England. At any one time there are approximately 12 million
children going through the educational system, this is about 1/5 of the population. It is mind boggling,
when you consider that each age group will have their own development requirements, academic
obligations and social needs, all of which are necessary to be met at school. In order to do this
successfully, every school must have a large number of qualified staff, who are knowledgeable in a
variety of fields from teachers to support staff to external professionals that in certain cohorts of

At the age of 5, children go on to primary school.
Primary
Every child has to attend primary school full time. While children are here, they start to study key
stage 1, and then go on to key stage 2. Children have to stay at primary school until they are 11 years
of age. To begin with children mainly learn through play, focusing on basic numeracy and literacy. On
a daily basis, a child normally stays in the same classroom with the same teacher. Their teacher
normally delivers the national curriculum, from the core subjects (Maths, English, ICT and Science) to
Non core foundation subject such as Geography, PE and Art. In year 6, pupils have their Statutory
Assessment Tests (SAT s) to do. Every child has to sit these tests. Their results are often used when
they enter secondary school for putting them in ability groups. Some people disagree with these tests,
an argument is that the tests are unnecessary and course a number of children considerable stress and
trauma. In 2008 this was the last year that year 9 sat their SAT s, but they still remain for year 6. From
then there has been a number of requests from parents and schools that year 6 SAT s cease.
Secondary
Pupils enter secondary school at the age of 11. Secondary schools are much bigger then primary
school, for example there may be 240 pupils in a single year group at secondary this may be more than
the entire primary school. Pupils start

Why Is Samsung To Achieve Global Competitive Advantage
Question 1 (40 Marks)
Critically analyze and discuss the strategy adopted by Samsung to achieve global competitive
Advantage. (500 words)
Answer 1
To understand how Samsung achieved global competitive advantage we first need to understand what
do we mean by Strategy ?
At the business unit level, strategy is a set of management decisions concerning which customers to
target and what to offer them. (European Business Forum, 2007)1
Strategy is a concept that focuses on long term objectives of a firm keeping in view the changes that
take place in the business environment and the possible implications that it has on the firm. Thus, a
dominant and well structured strategy plays a very important element in capturing competitive
advantage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason being that the company didn t depend upon its organizational members or managers to act
rationally and take decisions. Rather the firm was highly determined on revising its product design in
order to achieve global competitive advantage. The processual strategy states that organizations whose
products are genuinely better can outwit their competitors. In a similar manner Samsung also came out
with a variety of convergence products which gave the firm an extra boost of competitive edge. For
instance, Samsung launched 5 and 7 mega pixel camera phones in 2005 along with a 10 mega pixel
camera in 2005. It also launched the SGH i310, a phone with a capacity of 8 GB that could easily
store about 2,000 MP3 files. By offering products that were completely different and unique with
respect to their design, features, quality etc. Samsung soon occupied a major share in the electronics
market. The systemic school sees strategy as constrained and shaped by the socio economic systems in
which it is embedded. (Small Business Economics, Jan 2009)3 Samsung along with the processual
strategy also adopts the systemic theory of strategy. In that the company aligns its activities and
products with the social systems that the firm interacts with for instance cultural, political, social etc.
Samsung functions in an environment that is highly

Satan In Goray Essay
When the Messiah Does Not Come, Sh*t Hits the Fan The novel, Satan in Goray, by Isaac Bashevis
Singer takes place in a 17th Century Jewish village in eastern Poland that is unsettled by the messianic
fervor that is courtesy of Sabbetai Zevi. This new fever brought about division and destruction to the
town of Goray, that Singer uses as a parallel to the Jews in his own time. Who looking for the meaning
of their own suffering, created division among themselves also. In the novel singer presents the
dangers of the false messiah, and the obsessive faith in national redemption that he promised. Singer s
father was a Rabbi that immersed himself in Kabbalistic mysteries, while his mother was the daughter
of a Rabi and a rationalist, and his brother an atheist; with all of these different opinions Ruth R. Weiss
talks about how this exposed Sinter to, all the political philosophical challenges of the day ... Show

Weiss writes, Sabbetai Zevi s vision of redemption took such a hold of Jewish imagination that even
upon his conversion to Islam in 1666 the year of the prophesized return to Jerusalem some of his
followers continued to believe in his divine mission (Singer, xxvii). Singer writes at the beginning of
chapter 10, Jews everywhere divided into two factions: that of Sabbetai Zevi and their opponents
(Singer, 195). In Goray, the Jew s dividing inevitably causes conflicts between the groups of Jews and
they excommunicate them from one another. This is apparent in the novel when Reb Gedaliya and
Levi excommunicate Reb Mordaci Joseph, and his followers who were not among those who stayed
faithful to Sabbetai Zevi, and returned to their original faith. He talks about how Reb Gedaliya and
Levi, removed many books from the study house and either burned or buried them; all that remained
were volumes of cabalistic mystery (Singer

The Pros And Cons Of Child Labor
Before the 20th century, child labor was common and expected in poorer households. Child labor
wasn t made illegal in the US until 1938. Following the Fair Labor Standards Act, illegal child labor
includes minors under sixteen, working dangerous jobs, and are only allotted a certain amount of
hours. Children under sixteen can work if it is a family business and not a deemed dangerous job.
Some of the countries currently with the worst amount of child labor are Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and
Somalia. The less developed countries have child labor still either because they need it or can t enforce
it. Working while in school is considered a good way to get into life. But it can also be a hindrance on
school. There end up being two major problems when combining work and school go to school and
don t work very much, or go to work instead of school. Attendance of either activity is affected by the
other. There isn t enough time to fully participate in both. On top of attendance, homework is added
and requires more time, still. To combine all three and save time in the future, school related jobs are
available. Internships and subject specific jobs allow youth to get work experience and further
education. But school related jobs aren t as easy to get as jobs at fast food or retail. Working during
school can be stressful and time consuming for students, causing their schooling to lack, or it can

Abstract
We are replicating J.R. Stroop s original experiment The Stroop Effect (Stroop, 1935). The aim of the
study was to understand how automatic processing interferes with attempts to attend to sensory
information. The independent variable of our experiment was the three conditions, the congruent
words, the incongruent words, and the colored squares, and the dependent variable was the time that it
took participants to state the ink color of the list of words in each condition. We used repeated
measures for the experiment in order to avoid influence of extraneous variables. The participants were
16 17 years of age from Garland High School. The participants will be timed on how long it takes
them to say the color of the squares and the color of the words. The research was conducted in the
Math Studies class. The participants were aged 16 17 and were students at Garland High School. The
results showed that participants took the most time with the incongruent words.

Individuality Vs Conformity
It can be seen in our everyday lives how easy it is for people to conform to the social norms of a group
or society. Wayne Dyer once said When you re just like everybody else, you ve nothing to offer other
than your conformity and I believe that this statement couldn t be more accurate. Recently, it has
become more acceptable for people to express their individuality and showing one s true colours is
being promoted. It is better to be a unique individual than to conform to society because conformity
destroys personal growth and development. We need to express our originality and by conforming to
what others want us to be, we squander any chance of achieving self acceptance. People are more
likely to conform is when they are placed in a group setting. An individual will not want to break the
group unanimity so they will conform to whatever decision the group comes to, even if it goes against
their beliefs or values. I firmly believe that if we pay less attention to what others expect of us and
expressing our individuality, we can offer more to society and develop and grow as human beings.

Group conformity can have negative aspects to it when the group one is joining is violent and does
harmful acts. The pressure that comes from group conformity can often lead people to do activities
that they know is wrong or that go against their beliefs and values. Groups often provide a sense of
belonging which is why the members of a group will be more likely to perform unacceptable acts. If
someone were to join a gang, for instance, then they will do whatever they need to in order to feel that
sense of belonging. This is when there can be negative aspects to group conformity, when the group
you are conforming to performs dangerous or illegal activities. However, there are moments when

Essay On Coptic Orthodoxy
A micro culture is a group of people within a culture that differentiates them from the larger culture to
which they belong. As a member of the Christian faith, a micro culture that I strongly associate myself
with is Coptic Orthodoxy. There are many branches of Christianity all over the world today and
Coptic Orthodoxy is one that is constantly growing.
Coptic Orthodoxy is a branch of Christianity influenced by the teachings of Saint Mark in Egypt.
Many refer to this faith as being Coptic . It is not significantly unique to just the United States of

Wearing this cross shows that a person is bearing their cross just like Jesus did when He was being
crucified. A lot of Copts, especially those who were born in Egypt and came to the United States, have
a cross tattooed on the inside of their wrist. It is more common to find those who were born in Egypt
to have this small tattoo because they get it from a very young age, but it is becoming more popular
that youth who were born in the United States to get a bigger and more dramatic form of the tattoo
when they grow up. This also symbolizes a person bearing their cross but in a different way than just
wearing a necklace. I, personally, always wear my necklace but have yet to get a tattoo on my wrist.
Also, priests of the Coptic Orthodox faith are required to wear a black tunic at all times and must grow
a beard from the time that they become a priest.
Coptic Orthodox Christians follow a different calendar than those of the Catholic faith and other
religions. Our calendar is called the Gregorian calendar, and this means that some holidays fall on
different days. For example, we always celebrate Christmas on January 7th while Catholics celebrate
it on December 25th. It is still the same holiday being celebrated which is the birth of Jesus Christ, but

Comparing Comedy And Tragedy Of Greek Theatre
In contrast to the drama and tragedy of Greek theater, we have comedy. Comedy was added as an
afterthought to some Greek tragedies with the intention to send the audience home in a lighter, happier
state of mind. There are many levels and types of comedy. I will be exploring four of them today;
satire, comedy of character, farce and parody.
I will begin with satire. Satire is a form of comedy that plays on people s weaknesses and makes fun
of problems in society. It is often used to express opinions and criticisms of politics or other topical
issues by making fun of those involved. The satirist intends to make his audience laugh while getting
across his opinion of how to better society. Jon Stewart, formerly of The Daily Show, is probably

How Philanthropy Is Morally Acceptable For Organizations...
Philanthropy is the desire of people, on their own accord, to promote a charity either by giving their
time, money, or talent. Philanthropy fills a big gap that the government either can t or won t provide.
However, does this necessity come with responsibilities? Is it mandatory for us to be active in
philanthropy and if it is, what type of charities is morally acceptable for donors to give money? Or to
Sandel s points in What Money Can t Buy, will bringing money into the situation have more negative
effects than positive?
One of the social purposes of philanthropy is to allow individuals to express their values. If people
value education, then they can give free tutoring to their local schools. If they are worried about the
literacy rate of their city, then they can raise money to provide the proper resources to raise the literacy
rate. If people value education, health, or arts they are able to give and invest their money to that area.
Philanthropy is also seen in many ways as a social good. Hence, it is logical that private sectors use
philanthropy to act in public ways. It shows their values and it shows that they are made of people that
care about the community. For example, when the oil spill happened in the Gulf of Mexico
dishwashing soaps would donate money if people bought their products and would show commercials
of their teams cleaning up animals from the oil spill. It was the dishwasher s brand way of saying that
they wanted to help the animals harmed by

Divine Comedy Justice
Poetic justice is a literary device that allows one to see how evil is punished and how good works are
rewarded. In the Divine Comedy, it is revealed that in Heaven and Hell there is good and evil will both
be punished or rewarded justly. The story follows Dante and how he witnesses poetic justice, which is
exercised in every part of the Divine Comedy. Hell is emphasized as being the penalty for evil.
Purgatory contains those who were a mixture of both good and evil, and they are reconciled and
purged. Heaven is the place in which goodness and kindness are rewarded with eternal life on the
planets under the glow of God and His magnificence. Poetic justice/purgation is seen throughout

The story of Laocoon is popularly found in the Aeneid, where Laocoon warned the Trojans against
bringing the wooden horse into Troy; as he suspected soldiers to be hiding in it. According to the
Encyclopedia Britannica, Laocoon was from Troy and was the priest of the god Apollo. Laocoon had
made a promise to Apollo to be celibate, as he was his priest. Laocoon ended up breaking this promise
and got married and had children. Apollo was mad about this. While Laocoon and his two sons were
preparing a sacrifice for Poseidon, two giant serpents, sent by Apollo, crushed them to death
(Encyclopedia Britannica).
This story is a great example of deception and justice. Like the thieves in the Inferno, Laocoon knew
that breaking his promise to Apollo was wrong but did it anyway. He proved that he was not
trustworthy. Like the thieves, Laocoon also got his just punishment. Serpents were introduced into the
story as a punishment from Apollo, just like serpents were introduced into the Inferno sent by

Conflict In Inherit The Wind
People often believe teachers, friends, and parents are the ones that teach them the most in life.
Although this may be true, a work of literature can also teach a person many valuable life lessons that
no one else can. In a work of literature, all themes connect to one significant lesson. Lawrence and
Lee s Inherit The Wind has rich themes that demonstrate the world resist change. One important theme
is to always be open minded. Equally important, is the theme that differences can tear people apart.
Not to mention, freedom of thought is also a critical theme. Therefore, themes in Inherit The Wind

This is revealed through Drummond s arguments for Bert throughout the trail. For instance,
Drummond s point for mentioning a sponges right to think is explained when he states, This man
wishes to be accorded the same privileges as a sponge! He wishes to think! (Lawrence and Lee 94).
Drummond is fighting on Bert s behalf to have the ability to think. Hillsboro is refusing to let Bert
think and teach what he knows because they are hesitant towards transition. Additionally. Freedom of
thought is also demonstrated through Rachel s struggling journey towards independence meanwhile
resistance is shown. For example, Rachel finally starts to think for herself when she says, You see, I
haven t really though very much. I was always afraid of what I might think so it seemed safer not to
think at all. But now I know. A thought is like a child inside our body It has to be born (Lawrence and
Lee 124). Certainly, these words Rachel expresses shows that she finally realized she has the ability to
think and explains why she was so resistant towards thinking about evolution. Due to these reasons,
Drummond s representation for Bert, and Rachel both illustrate freedom of thought and supports the
fact that people will always resist

This number is equivalent to one third of all automobile accidents across the United States. The
Midwest region of the United States had the highest amount of individuals who were driving under the

John Williams Influence On Music
Could you imagine Jaws or Star Wars without their award winning music scores? These particular
films follow a distinct successful trend having to do with the iconic duo: director Steven Spielberg and
film composer John Williams, who have also worked together on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Jurassic
Park, the Indiana Jones movies, and countless other famous movie titles. Music is the world s most
universal language. By itself, it can invoke emotions and create topics of discussion, but music
influences movies more than people think. Music in movies is extremely effective and can help
establish the tone and mood of any scene or setting with, speed and slow time even with no music,
help the audience characterize and connect with characters, and involve and affect the audience
mentally and emotionally.
When put to film, music can help establish the tone and mood for any setting. Music can especially
help distinguish the type of film. For example, comedic movies typically have more ridiculous, fast
paced, cartoon like music while romantic films may have more orchestral and lyrical music. The tone
of a scene can be emphasized as well. Eerie, dark music played during an intense scene will build
tension, but a celebration s music will be kept light hearted to show the atmosphere of the event.

Film score composers use familiar elements that the general public have grown up with. For example,
many people find children s songs terrifying. This is often taken advantage of and horror film directors
use warped lullabies to feed off fear which in turn, intensifies the scenes. Music can also be used in
symbolizing the importance of certain events or the music itself can be a symbol: a song on the radio
that played just before a car accident can trigger any survivors if they hear it again or a mother and
father fall in love again when they hear the song they danced to at their high school

Immigrant Families And The Parent Child Relationship Essay
Introduction
The task of parenting is difficult for anyone. This task is even more difficult when examining
immigrant families and the parent child relationship. The population of first and second generation
immigrant children in the United States grew by 51 percent between 1995 and 2014 (Child Trends,
2014, p. 3). According to the Migration Policy Institute, about 88 percent of immigrant children are
born in the U.S (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). While some immigrant children and their families are
able to adjust to the United States smoothly, there is still a huge percentage of immigrant children who
face a number of risks to healthy development. Immigrant children are more likely than non
immigrant children to live in families with a low socio economic status, to have parents with low
educational attainment and to have poor health (Child Trends, 2014). In addition to the risk factors
that impact immigrant families, there are also dilemmas in the parent child relationship. A major issue
confronted by immigrant children and their parents is the acculturation gap that emerges over time.
Immigrant children are able to adjust relatively quickly to the new culture as a result of school and
other activities. While immigrant children can quickly acquire to the values and behaviors of the host
culture, studies have shown that immigrant adults retain their original culture, slowing their
acculturation process (Liebkind, 1996). When the child s adaptation exceeds that of their

Child Labor Laws In the 1800 s
Child Labor Laws In The 1800 s Child Labor, once known as the practice of employing young
children in factories, now it s used as a term for the employment of minors in general, especially in
work that would interfere with their education or endanger their health. Throughout history and in all
cultures children would work in the fields with their parents, or in the marketplace and young girls in
the home until they were old enough to perform simple tasks. The use of child labor was not a
problem until the Factory System. The Factory System is a working arrangement where a number of
people cooperate to produce articles of consumption. Some form of Factory system has existed even

In 1918, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in a 5 4 decision, that the legislation was an unconstitutional
infringement on personal freedom. The following year, the Congress tried another strategy to establish
protection for child workers through taxation of employers. But in 1022 the Child Labor Tax Law, as
it was known, was ruled unconstitutional for being overly prohibitory and regulatory. In 1924, both
houses of Congress passed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, empowering Congress to limit,
regulate, and prohibit the labor of persons less than 18 years of age. Even though the reluctance of
state legislators to ratify the child labor amendment, legislative attempts to deal with the problem
nationally continued, notably during the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The
National Industrial recovery Act, passed by Congress in 1933, established a minimum age of 16 for
workers in most industries. In hazardous industries a minimum age level of 18 was established. This
law contributed to a great decrease in the number of yond workers, but the Supreme Court ruled the
act unconstitutional in 1935. In the next year the Congress passed the Walsh Healey Act, which
prohibits firms producing goods under federal government contract from employing boys and girls
less than 16 years of age. The nest important legislation on the problem was the Fair Labor Standards
Act of 1938, better known as the Federal Wage and Hour Law. This

A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and
preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the development
stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual activities. At this
development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of contracting STDs. This is in all
cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent stage. This calls for early intervention
to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the adolescents to abstain, and use
contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important factors to deal with this issue (Oncel,
Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of STDs does not have to influence the sexual
behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs transmit. Lack of sexual information is the
main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the youth. Many male and female youth ignore the
physiological and psychological development of their bodies. This research aims to examine the
sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some
factors including age, sex, and family status affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual
acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality
and STDs appears to be inadequate. This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers.

audience s attention the way the fruit cup, centered on the page, is tipped and surrounded by a splash

The Tsar Bomba is the largest nuclear bomb ever detonated. It was detonated on October 30, 1961. It
had a yield of 50 megatons, about 1,570 times more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima
and Nagasaki combined. It was also about 25% of the Krakatoa volcanic eruption of 1883. In theory
the Tsar Bomba could ve had a 100 megaton yield, if it wasn t rushed, and included the U 238 tamper.
The idea of the bomb was first thought of on July 10, 1961 during a meeting with Khrushchev and

Haim G. Ginott s Congruent Communication Model of Discipline
Congruent Communication Model of Discipline In 1971, Haim G. Ginott developed congruent
communication model that highlights the critical role of communication in discipline. Ginott believes
that the teacher is the influential element in the classroom and is like a parent that holds the authority
to make or break a students personality (Charles, 2011; Ginott, 1971).
Ginott s Key Ideas
1. Discipline: Discipline is a series of little successes.
2. Self Discipline: The most important element is a teacher s own self discipline.
3. Sane Messages: Address the situation not the students personality.
4. Congruent Communication: Teachers use congruent communication that is harmonious with
students own feelings.
5. Students Character: Teachers at their worst attack and label students characters.
6. Model Behavior: Teacher should model the behavior they expect to observe in their students.
7. Invite Cooperation: Inviting collaboration from students is greatly preferable to challenging it.
8. Express Anger: Teacher express anger but in appropriate ways.
9. Labeling the Disabling: Labeling students disables them.
10. Sarcasm: Sarcasm is almost always dangerous.
11. Perils of Praise: Avoid the perils of praise.
Congruent Communication
Congruent Communication means addresses situations, not students character or personality. Ginott
emphasized those teachers at their best, using congruent communication (Manning and Bucher, 2001;
Morris, 1996).

Lovely Hula Hands: Corporate Tourism and the Prostitution of Hawaiian Culture written by Haunani
Kay Trask was written in 1993. Trask wrote this paper to inform Americans about what she thinks of
tourism, a colonial imposition towards the Hawaiian culture. Trask incorporates ethos, pathos and
logos throughout her essay to show how tourism effects these three points in the Hawaiian culture:
The homeland, the language and dance of the culture and the familial relationships.

Later in the Conklin s interview he gives us Trask s definition of racism which is where one ethnic or
racial group dominates another to gain the culture and ethical values. For example, how the United
States of America dominated Hawaii.
Trask is able to use logos to prove how tourism has affected the Hawaiian culture. Trask refers to
Hawaii as a She who Rubs off on the visitor with her magical presence. The beauty of Hawaii is used
as an escape from Rawness and violence for most Americans though, Trask mentions that the land has
a Western sexual sickness (Trask 1993). Of course, all this hype is necessary to hide the truth about
tourism, the awful exploitative truth that the industry is the major cause of environmental degradation,
low wages, land dispossession, and the highest cost of living in the United States (Trask 1993). Trask
says that the areas of Hawaii which were sacred to the Hawaiian s have now been turned into top of
the line hotels. The beaches that were once full of fishermen and their nets are used for recreational
activities like surfing getting a tan and jet skiing. On most of the beaches owned by resorts, the
beaches are reserved for hotel residences only. In the essay, Trask gives the readers logos as to how
tourism is changing the land. For example, thirty years ago the ratio of Hawaiians outnumbered the

The Death Penalty During The United States Essay
The death penalty in the United States can be traced all the way to early American history when it was
under the colonial rule of Britain. Though in early history the death penalty was used for even menial
crimes such as burglary, capital punishment in the United States is currently used for only the most
heinous crimes, such as first degree murder, rape, treason, or espionage. Because the nation was
unified under similar Christian beliefs, there was no question of how death could be the worst
punishment for the worst crimes. However, through diversified religions and a growing sensitivity to
criminal rights, the death penalty is increasingly under more scrutiny in regards to the 8th amendment,
which bans the implementation of cruel and unusual punishments. In Furman v. Georgia, three
inmates challenged the legality of their sentences, bringing light to the questionable relationship
between capital punishment and the Eighth Amendment. In order to appease this realization that the
death penalty was too gruesome, many states have changed their execution methods from hangings
and electrocution to lethal injections that create a more seemingly peaceful death. In fact, death
penalty opponents often argue against the use of lethal injections on the grounds that this method
makes executions more palatable to the public by creating the appearance that the inmate is simply
being put to sleep (Radelet, Borg 54). However, though lethal injections are far less violent compared

The Environment Protection Agency s New Clean Power Plan

Consol Energy is heavily involved in two major industries: coal and natural gas. This is an interesting
situation given that the two industries directly compete against one another. As a result, Consol is
diversified and strategically projected against the risk of downturn in either profit stream.
Coal Industry
The coal industry has a gloomy economic forecast going forward. The U.S. Environment Protection
Agency s new Clean Power Plan (a part of the Clean Air Act) causes much uncertainty for
corporations like Consol. It was proposed by the EPA in June of 2014. The goal of the Clean Power
Plan is to decrease CO2 emissions by 30 percent in the year 2030 from 2005 levels. Already, it has had
an impact on the internal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prices for coal are currently down. This drop has coincided with the drop in oil prices. Originally, it
was expected that these two prices would be tied together, and that the drop would be quite temporary.
However, the longer that coal has been down, the more likely it looks like it is down for the count so
to speak. Many analysts believe that there has been an over production of coal in the past decade and
the market has been saturated as a result. With every passing month that coal s prices stay low, and the
supplies keep growing, it becomes less likely that things will turn around for the better in a permanent
manner. Even with the rest of the world playing catchup with the transition to zero carbon intensive
energy sources, the U.S. coal exports have been extremely low. China, for instance, has imported less
in recent years. At one point, they were helping to drive our export market. In response to the lower
demand, many mining corporations have begun to optimize their operations. This has been done by
focusing on lower mining production costs, cheaper transportation costs, and favorable exchange
rates. The goal is to keep operations from further declining profit wise as the U.S. Energy Information
Administration expects a 7% decrease in total coal consumption for the year 2015. This decline in coal
consumption will likely cause a decline in coal production, causing a decline in jobs for states such as
Wyoming, West Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, and

The Administration Of Civil Law
The Administration of Civil Law
In 1996 Lord Woolf reconstructed his review on Civil Justice which led to the Access to Justice Act
1999. There were a number of criticisms within the system and Lord Woolf s aim was to reduce cost,
delay and complexity within the system and increase access to justice. (Elliot Quinn, 2015).
There are currently 216 county courts that are solely concerned with civil work. Around 170 of them
are divorce county courts and have jurisdiction to hear undefended divorce and adoption or
guardianship cases. In the High Court, civil work, divorce and family matters still remain, though
there is a separate Family Court which was introduced in April 2014. Next is the court of Appeal,
followed by the Supreme Court. (i.b.i.d).

Before a trial or case management begins, a case must first be allocated to one of the three tracks;
small claims, fast track or multi track. This will determine the future conduct of proceedings. In order

based upon the persons perspective. Remember that countries and the people living there have their
own different perspective, in our country, the Philippines, people here are conservative unlike in
America, people there are known to be liberated. That s why I would like to recommend the law
makers, activist and even all those in the church to watch it to see others point of view with regards to

Essay On Kennewick Man
When we think of prehistoric things they may think of things of the past, but with the breakthrough
unearthing of the Kennewick Man transformed peoples thought of prehistoric existences. The
Kennewick Man or The Ancient Man is the name given to the skeletal remains of a man found in
Kennewick, Washington on July 28,1996. A pair of bystanders accidentally found the skeleton remains
of the Kennewick Man. With the discovery it has brought up many disagreements about what to do
with the Kennewick man. The question now is who is really responsible for the remains of the
Kennewick Man.
The remains of the Kennewick man are one of the oldest and complete remains ever found. The
estimated 9,000 year old skeleton is described as Caucasoid. After the discovery it was described as
one of the most complete male skeletons ever unearthed in America. The Kennewick Man remains
were the subject of a court battle between researchers who want to learn all they can about The
Ancient One , and the U.S. Army Corps. The Corps wanted to return the Kennewick Man to his
rightful place so that the American Indian tribes can rebury him without the Kennewick Man being
studied on. But under United States law human remains cannot be owned by anyone. Even though the
Kennewick Man remains were discovered and recovered from federal land and is now ... Show more

The study of the Kennewick Man would help shed a new light on the issue and perhaps settle some of
the controversies surrounding the remains. In a way the remains of the Kennewick Man belong to
whoever can make the most use out of the Kennewick Man. However at the same time the remains of
the Kennewick Man could be examined without harm and then the skeletal remains can be returned to
his rightful and final resting place and be connected to his people as

  • 2. Postconventional Schema Appendix 1 see James Rest (1974), for the Defining Issues Test. This test has been devised under the influence of Lawrence Kohlberg s moral reasoning stages, uses a Likert scale to give quantitative ratings and rankings of issues of five moral dilemmas. The scale constitutes of 12 issues that are to be rated in terms of importance to the corresponding dilemma and then rank the four most important issues. The respondent will either score on three specific schemas of moral reasoning: Personal Interests, Maintaining Norms, and the Post conventional Schema. When a respondent reads an issue statement that both makes sense to them, as well as triggers a preferred schema, that statement is given a high rating and ranking. Conversely, when a respondent reads an issue statement that is either construed as nonsensical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Maintaining Norms Schema is considered more advanced than the Personal Interests Schema, as it emphasizes more than the individual. At the Maintaining Norms reasoning level, law and authority are important, as each of these helps to uphold social order, which is paramount to this schema. So, a respondent who is predominantly using this schema will take into consideration what needs to be done in order to be compliant with the social order of society. Finally, the Postconventional Schema is regarded as the most developmentally advanced. At the Postconventional reasoning level, laws are not simply blindly accepted (as with the Maintaining Norms Schema), but are scrutinized in order to ensure society wide benefit. So, a respondent who is primarily using this schema will focus on what is best for society as a whole. For example, the Civil Rights movement was a product of Postconventional reasoning, as followers were most concerned with the society wide effects of (in)equality. It should be noted that, though an individual may rely more heavily on one of the aforementioned schemas, moral reasoning is typically informed, to varying degrees, by each of ... • 3. Swimming South Analysis The documentary Swimming South which premiered on 29 January 2017, would have sent a shock through many of the viewers of channel 9 s weekly 60 minutes program. As it describes a threat that could cost the Australian tourism industry billions and even have the potential to kill, it is called the Irukandji jellyfish. Throughout the documentary 60 minutes has cleverly depicted the jellyfish to be a lethal killer, to really gain the audiences focus while then informing viewers of the damage this animal can do to not only us but to are whole economy. With various techniques being used to the capture viewers attention on the topic such as language, camera techniques and archival footage combining well together to make a well presented and informative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Providing video footage of them both actually being stung by the Irukandji gives the realistic image to the viewers. As with actual evidence and proof of the stings occurring it provides the viewers with a more realistic feel of what this creature can actually do to us. As the immense pain being shown by them, it creates a fear for the audience since this creature could be very likely swimming alongside us in the water. The archival footage just adds to the whole documentaries persona of the Irukandji being the bad guy and 60 minutes being the hero saving us. By continuing the bias side of the documentary saying we even have proof of how deadly the jellyfish is. To cleverly hook the audience to the one side of the topic they are being shown, being the Jellyfish is pure evil nothing else. Not considering the fact that we are swimming in its home but this clearly portrays the director s intent as well to only have the audience react due to the bad effects of this animal. To have the audience think they have to do something about this and have them worried about this massive threat to us and the tourism industry. The documentary Swimming south combines a variety of specific techniques such as Camera techniques, Narration and Archival footage to effectively position the audience to be against this threat. ... Another Ib Ia Commentary on: Pecan market is a crackin In the last few years the economic growth of China has caused the demand (and supply) of all kinds of nuts, especially pecans, to rise and producers are facing a challenge meeting the soaring demand, says The Globe and Mail October 18th 2010. Demand and supply are the quantity of a good or service that consumers and producers are willing able to purchase and produce at a given price in a given time period. Equilibrium is a state of rest, self perpetuating in the absence of outside disturbance. At this price, the quantity demanded equals quantity supplied. Here we assume that PE is greater than North American price of pecans. This causes a positive shift in supply for China, from SC to SC1. • 7. Examples Of Flashbacks In Toni Morrison s Beloved Beloved: How the Past Affects a Person Beloved is full of intense scenes that leave readers on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next. Some of the most powerful scenes are flashbacks, past experiences that characters come face to face with. What makes these flashbacks so important is that they help make the reader understand why the characters interact with each other the way they do. In Beloved, Toni Morrison uses a loose structure and weaves flashbacks into everyday life to create a connection through which readers can better understand the character s past. In the beginning of the novel, the reader is introduced to the idea of flashbacks, which remain short and are intertwined seamlessly within the text. The readers learn to be active when reading, and also pay close attention to the details within the flashbacks to learn more about the characters that their past lives. The most significant flashbacks in Part One are when the reader learns about Sethe s past, and how she killed her crawling already? baby. Inside, two boys bled in the sawdust at the feet of a nigger woman holding a blood soaked child to her chest with one hand and an infant by the heels in the other (Morrison 175). Here is where the reader first learns how the crawling already baby dies: Sethe killed her and attempted to kill the rest of the children. While this was a common idea, in practice, there were significant differences in the way the two cultures treated women. Specific developments in both Rome and China led them in two very different directions with regard to the type of lives women could live. Although ancient Rome (750BC AD500) and China (350BC AD600) were both oppressive patriarchal societies, the application of technology, widespread use of slavery and the translation of government policies created more personal freedom for Roman women than Chinese women during that time. A significant difference to slavery in Rome, is that China never adopted the idea of large scale slavery of conquered people. Slaves in China were just as likely to have been of Chinese descent as that of a conquered territory. In China, the government often dictated what tasks slaves would perform. For instance, the government was afraid of replacing Chinese workers in agriculture, so the Chinese people never enjoyed the freedom from manual agricultural labor the way Roman s did. China could be viewed as a society with slaves vs. the Roman slave society . As a result, slavery never became the liberator of women in China the way it did in Rome. • 9. Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd ) Exhibit As defined by the American Psychiatric Association (2013), individuals diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) exhibit a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. Individuals, both with and without ASPD, often find themselves facing stiff consequences when they break the law by violating the rights of others. The propensity of individuals with ASPD to break such laws is one possible explanation for the prevalence of ASPD increasing from a range of 0.2% to 3.3% in the general population to 47% in prisons (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Fazel Danesh, 2002). With such a disparity between the general and prison prevalence of ASPD, it is clear that society is adroit in isolating the undesired behaviors of individuals with ASPD; however, society also has a responsibility to protect the rights of those diagnosed with a bonafide illness. If ASPD is the cause of an individual s incarceration, then their successful reintegration into society relies on treating the underlying diagnosis, and in order to do that, it is important to understand the neurobiological foundations of ASPD. Individuals with APSD exhibit neuroanatomical differences compared with individuals without the diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have identified an 11.0% reduction in prefrontal gray matter in individuals diagnosed with ASPD (Raine, Lencz, Bihrle, LaCasse, ... Media Reaction Of Political Issues On Immigration Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration Marvin Cornejo Instructor: Eddie Trevizo 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Introduction Political issues relating to immigration have long been a concern since migrating into the United States became so called illegal in the late 1880s. In reality, immigration was barely regulated until the early 1920s when congress passed a Quota Law limiting the amount of people allowed to enter the country annually. Just how immigrants stormed into the United States then, we continue to struggle today in enforcing immigration laws and procedures, protecting our borders from undocumented personnel and, most recent, terrorist threats. The following will describe the current political issues regarding immigration and will focus on a few aspects of the problems the U.S is attempting to adapt and overcome. Media Reaction to Political Issues on Immigration In recent weeks, the United States has been swamped with illegal aliens attempting to enter the country illegally from Mexico, South and Central America, through South Texas, the high majority being unaccompanied alien children. The United Nations report found that the main reasons children made the dangerous trips to the border were to join relatives in the United States, they wanted to flee violence in their countries and flee abuse in the home ( Undocumented immigrants to leave El Paso while cases are pending El Paso Times ). This new fever brought about division and destruction to the town of Goray, that Singer uses as a parallel to the Jews in his own time. Who looking for the meaning of their own suffering, created division among themselves also. In the novel singer presents the dangers of the false messiah, and the obsessive faith in national redemption that he promised. Singer writes at the beginning of chapter 10, Jews everywhere divided into two factions: that of Sabbetai Zevi and their opponents (Singer, 195). In Goray, the Jew s dividing inevitably causes conflicts between the groups of Jews and they excommunicate them from one another. This is apparent in the novel when Reb Gedaliya and Levi excommunicate Reb Mordaci Joseph, and his followers who were not among those who stayed faithful to Sabbetai Zevi, and returned to their original faith. Wayne Dyer once said When you re just like everybody else, you ve nothing to offer other than your conformity and I believe that this statement couldn t be more accurate. Recently, it has become more acceptable for people to express their individuality and showing one s true colours is being promoted. It is better to be a unique individual than to conform to society because conformity destroys personal growth and development. We need to express our originality and by conforming to what others want us to be, we squander any chance of achieving self acceptance. People are more likely to conform is when they are placed in a group setting. An individual will not want to break the group unanimity so they will conform to whatever decision the group comes to, even if it goes against their beliefs or values. I firmly believe that if we pay less attention to what others expect of us and expressing our individuality, we can offer more to society and develop and grow as human beings. Living life as who ... Philanthropy fills a big gap that the government either can t or won t provide. However, does this necessity come with responsibilities? Is it mandatory for us to be active in philanthropy and if it is, what type of charities is morally acceptable for donors to give money? Or to Sandel s points in What Money Can t Buy, will bringing money into the situation have more negative effects than positive? One of the social purposes of philanthropy is to allow individuals to express their values. If people value education, then they can give free tutoring to their local schools. If they are worried about the literacy rate of their city, then they can raise money to provide the proper resources to raise the literacy rate. If people value education, health, or arts they are able to give and invest their money to that area. Philanthropy is also seen in many ways as a social good. Hence, it is logical that private sectors use philanthropy to act in public ways. It shows their values and it shows that they are made of people that care about the community. Hillsboro is refusing to let Bert think and teach what he knows because they are hesitant towards transition. Additionally. Freedom of thought is also demonstrated through Rachel s struggling journey towards independence meanwhile resistance is shown. For example, Rachel finally starts to think for herself when she says, You see, I haven t really though very much. I was always afraid of what I might think so it seemed safer not to think at all. But now I know. A thought is like a child inside our body It has to be born (Lawrence and Lee 124). Michael Lovenheim from the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management states that Blue Laws , which are laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol on Sundays, first started in observance of the Sabbath on Sundays. These laws have been a consistent law in 14 different states to include: Georgia, North Carolina and of course Oklahoma. These particular films follow a distinct successful trend having to do with the iconic duo: director Steven Spielberg and film composer John Williams, who have also worked together on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones movies, and countless other famous movie titles. Music is the world s most universal language. By itself, it can invoke emotions and create topics of discussion, but music influences movies more than people think. Music in movies is extremely effective and can help establish the tone and mood of any scene or setting with, speed and slow time even with no music, help the audience characterize and connect with characters, and involve and affect the audience mentally and emotionally. When put to film, music can help establish the tone and mood for any setting. Music can especially help distinguish the type of film. For example, comedic movies typically have more ridiculous, fast paced, cartoon like music while romantic films may have more orchestral and lyrical music. The tone of a scene can be emphasized as well. • 29. Immigrant Families And The Parent Child Relationship Essay Introduction The task of parenting is difficult for anyone. This task is even more difficult when examining immigrant families and the parent child relationship. The population of first and second generation immigrant children in the United States grew by 51 percent between 1995 and 2014 (Child Trends, 2014, p. 3). According to the Migration Policy Institute, about 88 percent of immigrant children are born in the U.S (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). While some immigrant children and their families are able to adjust to the United States smoothly, there is still a huge percentage of immigrant children who face a number of risks to healthy development. Immigrant children are more likely than non immigrant children to live in families with a low socio economic status, to have parents with low educational attainment and to have poor health (Child Trends, 2014). In addition to the risk factors that impact immigrant families, there are also dilemmas in the parent child relationship. A major issue confronted by immigrant children and their parents is the acculturation gap that emerges over time. Immigrant children are able to adjust relatively quickly to the new culture as a result of school and other activities. While immigrant children can quickly acquire to the values and behaviors of the host culture, studies have shown that immigrant adults retain their original culture, slowing their acculturation process (Liebkind, 1996). In 1918, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in a 5 4 decision, that the legislation was an unconstitutional infringement on personal freedom. The following year, the Congress tried another strategy to establish protection for child workers through taxation of employers. But in 1022 the Child Labor Tax Law, as it was known, was ruled unconstitutional for being overly prohibitory and regulatory. In 1924, both houses of Congress passed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, empowering Congress to limit, regulate, and prohibit the labor of persons less than 18 years of age. Even though the reluctance of state legislators to ratify the child labor amendment, legislative attempts to deal with the problem nationally continued, notably during the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The National Industrial recovery Act, passed by Congress in 1933, established a minimum age of 16 for workers in most industries. In hazardous industries a minimum age level of 18 was established. This law contributed to a great decrease in the number of yond workers, but the Supreme Court ruled the act unconstitutional in 1935. In the next year the Congress passed the Walsh Healey Act, which prohibits firms producing goods under federal government contract from employing boys and girls less than 16 years of age. • 31. A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the development stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual activities. At this development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of contracting STDs. This is in all cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent stage. This calls for early intervention to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the adolescents to abstain, and use contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important factors to deal with this issue (Oncel, Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of STDs does not have to influence the sexual behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs transmit. Lack of sexual information is the main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the youth. Many male and female youth ignore the physiological and psychological development of their bodies. This research aims to examine the sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some factors including age, sex, and family status affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality and STDs appears to be inadequate. This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers. ... Ginott believes that the teacher is the influential element in the classroom and is like a parent that holds the authority to make or break a students personality (Charles, 2011; Ginott, 1971). Ginott s Key Ideas 1. Discipline: Discipline is a series of little successes. 2. Self Discipline: The most important element is a teacher s own self discipline. 3. Sane Messages: Address the situation not the students personality. 4. Congruent Communication: Teachers use congruent communication that is harmonious with students own feelings. 5. Congruent Communication Congruent Communication means addresses situations, not students character or personality. • 37. The Death Penalty During The United States Essay The death penalty in the United States can be traced all the way to early American history when it was under the colonial rule of Britain. Though in early history the death penalty was used for even menial crimes such as burglary, capital punishment in the United States is currently used for only the most heinous crimes, such as first degree murder, rape, treason, or espionage. Because the nation was unified under similar Christian beliefs, there was no question of how death could be the worst punishment for the worst crimes. However, through diversified religions and a growing sensitivity to criminal rights, the death penalty is increasingly under more scrutiny in regards to the 8th amendment, which bans the implementation of cruel and unusual punishments. In Furman v. Georgia, three inmates challenged the legality of their sentences, bringing light to the questionable relationship between capital punishment and the Eighth Amendment. In order to appease this realization that the death penalty was too gruesome, many states have changed their execution methods from hangings and electrocution to lethal injections that create a more seemingly peaceful death. In fact, death penalty opponents often argue against the use of lethal injections on the grounds that this method makes executions more palatable to the public by creating the appearance that the inmate is simply being put to sleep (Radelet, Borg 54). However, though lethal injections are far less violent compared to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Originally, it was expected that these two prices would be tied together, and that the drop would be quite temporary. However, the longer that coal has been down, the more likely it looks like it is down for the count so to speak. Many analysts believe that there has been an over production of coal in the past decade and the market has been saturated as a result. With every passing month that coal s prices stay low, and the supplies keep growing, it becomes less likely that things will turn around for the better in a permanent manner. Even with the rest of the world playing catchup with the transition to zero carbon intensive energy sources, the U.S. coal exports have been extremely low. China, for instance, has imported less in recent years. At one point, they were helping to drive our export market. In response to the lower demand, many mining corporations have begun to optimize their operations. This has been done by focusing on lower mining production costs, cheaper transportation costs, and favorable exchange rates. The goal is to keep operations from further declining profit wise as the U.S. Energy Information Administration expects a 7% decrease in total coal consumption for the year 2015.
